The following. Here's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club Cowboys. This is nick shot screening live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys apt now Here are Bill Jones, Everson Walls, and Nicky Spagnola Dallas Cowboys Boys stand. I gotta wait. Let it the holiday play out here, stay MPD getting to these second round of the playoffs. Let it all play.
I try game number twenty two of this season. If you include the preseason twenty two out of twenty fours coming your way and ten Fransisco, it is a lot of games, it is, that's right, But this is two out of four. As far as we're concerned, it's a four game season. Here. Got the season opener under our belt last night, and now we move on to the quarterfinal round of this tournament. Bill Jones, Everson Walls, Mickey's Spagnola inside the s WBC podcast studio and Mickey has
a new hoodie on a Dallas Cowboys hoodie. Yeah. I'm meant to ask you, man, what did you do? That's that's pretty sharp. I like that they had the pre Christmas sale at the warehouse oh you paid money for Oh woh really wow? Pretty good? All right, that is good, that's very good. And I think that song was playing. I was thinking, the fans need to memorize the song and then when they win a game, you sing it
after like the fight song. Very retro and uh. And it also reminds me of Cowboy Joe, yes, of course, and and Mike McCarthy's sporting sparing Cowboy Joe Joe is on the sideline and yeah, Mike McCarthy's wearing it. You're gonna have to wear it again this week. It's a lucky charm, Cowboy Joe, change your clothes. Uh. No one was in my parking spot this time at the charter site.
I thought everything is just wonderful. And you know, when I heard that song playing, it made me think, when what was it two minutes and change when San San Francisco, I'm already on Tampa Bay scored their frivolous touchdown at the end. It was Mike Evans catches that next ball at the onside kick. Things getting nervous there if you have a go ahead still it was it was a seventeen. Yes, the fireworks went off. The Pirates ship started shooting out
the side. They're like, are you serious, You're getting your ass whipped and you're gonna Tom bradern it's Tom Brady, you know. They were extremely optimistic. And I turned around and I saw that was one of the few games I think I've been on the sideline before a game ended like it was over, so it was time to
pack up and go down. And I'm standing there and this all happened, and I turned around and the cheerleaders were all lined up behind me and they had this perfunctory pasted smile on their face, like you gotta smile, I have to smile. And it was such a great change from when things started, when the bucks came out and they had this bag deal going on. The red lights came on, and it's like, oh man, the players are pumping fist and everything. They're coming out like like
San Francisco. You know what. Yeah. Somebody asked me, what do you think the turning point of the game was, I said, when the quarterbacks came out. Tom Brady came running down the sideline at full speed, got to where he was gonna stop, jumps up in the air and throws his fist right and I'm going, look, does he do that all the time or is he trying to all the time. I don't know. But Dad came out and he was doing his trot out and I can see the look on his face like, Okay, we got
this right. And it was nothing phony, like trying to create some enthusiasm. And I said, Okay, I think they're in for it now. After the first so the team was not nervous before this game. They had no anks. Yeah, as that was the word, right, that was the word right. Although after the first two possessions, I was going, uh, I got some anks now, Yeah, but so did but so did Tampa Bay. Because I think both teams had
combined for minus two yards. I wrote down the first first down was nine h eight in the first quarter. It was the eleven yard passed to Gallop that he had to climb the ladder to go. It was amazing. Both teams had two possessions the first five minutes of the game. Yeah, yeah, I mean you never see that in the NFL. I think I think that's good for US three and out, three and out, three and out, three and out in complete passes left and right. What do you? What do you? I just want to know
which side do you think was the spark? Was it the defense holding you know, holding them twice, you know, and then all of a sudden, here they come. The offense is clicking, you know, the lines blocking better. Now. I mean, let's face it, they were bringing it those first two series. They didn't just overthrow. Those ghosts were starting to appear against bags, but they're there there, They were creating ghosts, yes, because he was missing people too. They had a drop pass, uh you know, and um,
what was I wrote down Smith on one hand? Incomplete m The timing was off just all the way around, which is typical of games that we go on to just screw up, right, And so I'm thinking maybe it was the defense's ability to give them give them a chance, right, okay, because you could tell you guys were opening and everybody just kind of nervous, you know, everybody was just geeked up. It just seemed like they just had a little bit
too much juice going on at that time. And as much as the talk today as it should be, is about how well Dak Prescott played the defense and the way the defense played throughout the game. Out the game, Yeah, and when you look back at the Super Bowl teams of the nineties, those defenses, the Super Bowl teams of the seventies. You can win in the postseason, win your
defense plays like that was. It was no content, It was no content, and and and did so, not only going into the game shorthanded at cornerback and then inactive. We knew Mullins was Mullin was out, and then they made na Sean Wright inactive. And I'm sitting there going, well, what the hell are they going to do at cornerback? Right? And we're thinking, now, Xavier Rhodes a little over a week after being signed, is gonna get the full amount.
And he was one of the four and the other one of the four was Kelvin Joseph, who they weren't going to put out there. And then it kind of dawned on me, and I'd seen this previously. I said, you know, oh what, the big nickels gonna get bigger because they're gonna use mcquamu, who had done a little of that in the slot, and he's he's a cornerback and he was a cornerback. And I had caught word that, you know what, they might use him and leave Bland outside.
You know why they were able to do that because of the opponent, right, because what Tampa Bay has a wide receiver and the way they use Godwin Godwin, And I was talking with Will McClay about it earlier in the week. You know, they miss gronk Okay, yes, and if you look at Godwin's yards per catch, it's like under ten yards at catch, I mean everything, as as they showed on the on the game last night. He's caught more wide receiver screens than any wide receiver in
the league. And so when you have an offense that's built that way, you can play Mukuamu in the slot and Curse guarded. God want to light light and so they had they had Curse in the slot. So they went with the dime. It was mcquomo and then when they went dime, it was mcquamu came in and Curse did his deal and they manned, they zoned, and they did it. They did it quickly. Spat right, the rush
was there. The three seconds was all that he had, right, and that that's what really uh you know, had everything that was the catalyst for the defensive success, you know, mum, I mean not mum, Godwin ended up with eighty five yards. Uh, but it took ten catches, so eight yards catch eight and a half yards. Yeah, and so they were not going to let him have anything deep. They did not, but he didn't they did. He didn't have time either.
And as we know, as quarterbacks get older, they don't retire because their arm goes bad or their legs go bad. They don't like people nipping at their feet. Yes, they don't like that. That literally happened last night exactly. Yeah, Carlos is that his name, Carlos Watkins? Yes, yes, young man was bawling last Yeah. I liked his energy, yea, even when he didn't make a play. You could just
see that he's an unsung guy on this night. And then even Hankins, right, and they I thought they set the tone the first play of the game, Parson drops the running back for a two yard loss. He's lucky he didn't intercept the hand off, right, because they were gonna they were gonna whip that guy, uh Smith their other tackle. Right, Why Parsons was he was lined up over him all night? Oh yeah, absolutely, And and and you know if the guy wasn't holding him, he was
rarely blocking him. Uh so, Yeah, and Dak made sure he mentioned the reason we got to do what we did because of what the defense and how they played, but how they skies their deficiency at corner. Now, you showed your hand, right, and so let's see what happens going forward. But at least Roads will be here an extra couple of days. What I want to ask you, I went, I went back through the entire first half.
Haven't had a chance to go back through the entire second half, just to see the alignment on defense and so forth. And Rhodes did not play in the first half unless he got on the field for the Hail Mary's at the end of the half, which I couldn't tell on the TV copy whether he's on the field or not. For that, I didn't notice him out there till late in the fourth corner. Okay, that's what I thought. Yeah, and so and so the curse injury, Okay, he had
forty two snaps last night. Yeah, and when you look at Rhodes, he wound up with twenty four snaps in the game. Rhodes did. And so if curse heddon't got hurt, right, then Rhodes may not have played at all. Yeah, No, absolutely, And so in Curses case, I saw him afterwards. He had his knee, uh sort of taped up and it was wound through his calf, and I was told it was a sprained MCL, but they were somewhat hopeful then they would find out more today that he could be
back in time. Man, because that that three safety combo. I mean, they're they're all starters. Curse and Hooker and Wilsons are so huge to this defense and what they can what dan Quinn can do as far as matchups and so forth, and as evidenced by this game right here, because basically their base is the nickel with those three safeties. That's right. Yeah, got kittle, Yeah, kitt kittle kittle yea dead young man. They got a handful. You're talking about
missing at wrong deebo. Yeah. And then they've got a fullback who actually a lot of times acts like a tight end. Some Mamo ended up with four tackles and two passes defense. One came on a third down, as I remember, and the other one was almost a pick. So he played pretty darned well going up in the slot.
But again, and I don't know how much they changed it because I didn't see Evans lineup much in this and oh, by the way, there was no giggling after this one him on the sideline because dig shut his butt down until the Cowboys backed off. I said, okay, you're not getting anything deep. You know, have whatever you want underneath and eat up the clock as you moved down the field. But he got shut down by Diggs. So, uh, you guy balled out last night? Who's that leaden at?
Yes he did. Did that make a difference, Yes it did, and not only with his nine tackles, but he had had two two passes broken up and he almost had an inner uption two. It was ripe Brian url. Yes, yes, just what just what he was. He anticipated very well last night, because you know, you can do athleticism all you want, but if you already there anticipating, you know, that's when you know you ball it. He sent the
edge a couple of times. Well when the boss spilled out, he was a short yardage one and they tried bouncing it outside. And that's the one beat the guy. That's exactly what I'm talking about. Yeah, that's the one. So he played, he really played seven nine nine tackles, and Wilson had another game. Um boy, when he hits somebody, he hit a big guy. This is a big wife receiver. He's smacking the round. God when that was that was a good one. That was a good hit on the sideline.
So yeah, the defense, you know, even though they scored what thirty one should have been thirty five and will get to that in a moment, uh, which would have hit my gas pump number. That's pretty good. Thirty five was my thirty five was my number? Forty five dollars and fourteen Yeah, you know it was thirty five. Thirty was my prediction, but it was eleven gallons, so it would have was. Actually thirty five to eleven was my prediction. Somebody else Mine is the closest. So somebody seen, sorry,
somebody totally. The over under was forty one one forty five five and a half. Yeah, and it ended up forty five and it got there in a weird way, right. Yeah. You know, I gotta say again, if Evans catches that ball after the onside gig and the over wins for every game this week, because every other game would the over one. Oh really, yeah, I'm kind of nervous about our I guess prevent defense, I get flashbacks a little too much prevent Well, I don't think there's enough prevent
because they're allowing them to get behind them. Yes, And I'm not sure because it reminds me of that that vent saw Britain, you know, nineteen You know what I'm saying. You know I have flashbacks of that a lot nineteen eighty nine, Phoenix. You know, you send all fours, guys, They're sending all fours. The safety has to make a decision. Back then we would put our hands on the slot. They don't even touch the slot anymore, which makes it
even harder for the safety. And sure enough those two passes, the two that could have been a third, it's either cover two or covered four. Because if it's a cover two, somebody needs to touch somebody right, they're coming off the line free, and if you go to the outside with the giants, we would just lock up. But where the corners were all backed off, I saw a covered two look twice they ran by him and he was lined up in they covered two umbrella look, and the safety
is under the rest. So when he beats the corn on the outside, the safety he better get deeper. If not, you're gonna keep getting I was passing you up like that when Brady was hitting them in the end zone. Well you know that happened to them on CD's touchdown when he was like as open. He was the in. They had three to the left and he was the inside guy and those guys took off and he circled under and the safety that was in the slot, he froze edwards. He just froze. Yeah, yeah, it was he
was like and he started going inside. But they both took the same guy. Was that I think the tight end, this deep safety took Sultz Schultz. Did you see Schultz did that? Was? I retweeted it all right? I tweeted the video of it. Um Schultz. You know, he runs the inside route and he you know, it was three on three basically there and when he saw that and it was Carlton Davis, I think it was a corner
out there when he froze and didn't go at CD. Okay, it was like it was like two of them were playing as zone or a man and the other they were confused defensively, obviously, as soon as he saw those three dbs stay in that area. He knew where CD was going. He didn't even look. He's looking at the opposite sideline over there and he's raising his hands up. Touchdown. He knew. I mean it was hilarious. Yeah, before the ball is still in the air going to CD, he
knew this is a touchdown. Did you know this the naked bootleg? Yes? And number thirty one. I'm sorry I cannot remember his name. All Pro defensive back for Tampa Winfield. Winfield feels back, he chases from the other side and and Schultz was waiting back and yeah if that yeah, if that, don't you dare you know? I mean, he was having a good time last night. Yes, I have a feeling it was because he probably got his butt whipped in the first game this year, but that was
paid back for him. Just his whole attitude last night. And I've never seen him that animated. Never first Cowboy tight end in history to have two touchdown receptions in the playoff game. Wow? How about and think about the title. Wow. He did have seven catches for sixty two yards against the Bucks in the season and somebody said he didn't want to talk after the game. I'm not sure what that was. About, but I thought he had a heck
of a game. I think all I was thinking Ron Blocking must have been suffering in that first game, because he just seemed I've never seen him that animated. It's like he had something to prove, and he released playoffs. It's playoffs. He had. His ninety five yards receiving were third most by Cowboys tight end in the playoffs. Novachek had one hundred and four in that wipe out of Green Bay in ninety five, and Witton had ninety eight at Minnesota in two thousand and nine, which was not
a good game. Yes it wasn't. Yeah, empty empty calories. All right, we've gone five minutes over on our first segment. There's so much to talk about, and there's still more to get too when mix Shots continues at a moment. The Medal of Honor is our country's highest military award for valor in combat. Okay, oh you want to go there. You don't want to go dak first. That will play very well. Okay, we've established that. Now
you want to get to the elephant. That was exceptional. Exceptional, That's exactly right. Um. Many are saying that it was the best game of his career. At one point in the game. He had one more in completion than Brett Maher had missed. There you go again. He could connect something good to something just awful. And you know what I saw it coming? How was that coming before? He
saw him warming up? Before he warmed up? When I went out there, when we got there, I usually walk out on the field, especially when it's a grass field, to see what the fields this guy. So you walk your checking the field for the kickers and the players. Do you report back to McCarthy, No, because Bucky was out there. Do you have do you have different clats that you wear when you test it out in before
the game? I wear tennis shoes now after I ruined a pair of shoes thirty years ago at that chap Beach of game in San Francisco, thirty years ago today. That's right. So anyway, I go out there and I'm looking at the field, and the grass outside the numbers was very sparse, right, like, there wasn't a lot of grass right. Then when you got inside the numbers it
looked like they resided some of it. And then when you got inside the hashes it was even better side right, but the side didn't go a hundred yards it was sporadic, like in the middle of the middle of the middle of the field, like it would go ten yards. And then it got to looking like the outside stuff. I mean, it could just be from warming up right now. No, there was nobody warmed up, and and so I'm looking at this. I go this fields weird and um we were looking at it and we were standing in the
middle and the field was like wavy. It's like, this is Tampa. You should have good grass, right, what's the deal? A lot of games. Well, one of the first guys that came out was Brett Mah yeah. And I saw him walk in the field and he's looking at the different lengths of grass, right, and he's tapping his foot down like let me see how this is. And look, and I'm going, oh my god, he's worried about the field, just like that to myself, right, And then I felt
like kicking off a mattress. And then I saw him miss a couple in warmups, which was weird. And while he made one from sixty, he tried one from like forty nine or fifty and it just scattered. And I was like, and then somebody else told me, he goes I had a very good warm up, and so I was like, we'll see. Then when he missed the first extra one, it was like, oh, oh, this is gonna be in it. Well, that that was the moment. It
wasn't just about that. It was like, Okay, this is the kind of unfortunate things that happened, right, and to allow Brady to stay in the game, because you're sitting there, okay six, zh they score, you're down seven six, right, And it was he finished the Washington game with a missed extra points, right. So that was two in a row, and it was three in a row. And I tried to see that the ball spun late but really didn't. And then when he just really hit that the one
way overcompensated, you could see that was bad. Now. Krisky Scales told me that when they start the game, each team has three kicking balls. Well, they lost a couple of his because they shanked into the stands and they were going to have to go to the other team to get a kicking ball. Shanked him into the stands. It missed it. No the game. When he missed the extra points, he they locked it was a souvenir ball.
It missed the nut it's because it's the field in that condition because of too much football being played on it. I was just looking, you know. They played the guest Perilla Bowl there on December twenty third, and the Tampa Bay Bowl on January second was played there in addition to the Bucks games, and then South Florida plays their home games there. I wonder if they play high school
games there. Christie said that they resided the middle of the field between the hashes, and there were some um scenes okay, and and they broadcast and they didn't do it for a hundred yards. It ended ten yards and then picked up and it was like, what are they doing? Well, they knew before the game. It was all the field grow where the extra point may be anyway, Yeah, I mean the extra points are in one spot all the time. Yes, so you might as well get it. Get this ode
good there? Yeah. I don't know if that their kicker, did he have a chance. No, because they went for they went for two at right time, so he probably would have missed his two if they had, So I don't know if that got in his head, because I don't I don't know that it affected it, but maybe he was just got in his head right, and then after you missed two, which is three in a row, then it really gets in here. That's the first time
this ever happened in NFL history. Yes, I know. I mean you think of all the bad kickers that have been in the NFL, and this guy was the first one to miss. This is the guy that set the franchise record for most points scored in a single season by a kicker. Do you have to kick the extra point from the line of scrimmage the fifteen yard line? Can you back it's nine out of eleven, he's nine out of eleven on fifty yards or plus? Can you back it up to the thirty five and kick it
from the holder? The holder could go like, they could line up further back here and the holder and he could be a long snap right as opposed. Yeah, like that's about the past. You go, you grab it, you run back, and then you set it. Now you set up back here, I'll bring the ball to you. You got you gotta get a to just snap it all the way back out really five yards, so now it's a good thing he least made the last que Yeah. Um, it looked good too. It looked comfortable. Well, if it's
a field, then there's no problem. Well, I don't know if it was the field or it was in his head. I mean, if it was in his head that it was the field one at Washington it was another grass field. So we're talking about natural grass in regards to the defense. We should have been talking about natural grass and regards because it sure didn't slow down. The defense didn't or the offense. You know, the way that game was played last night, it almost came out to be perfect because
the cards were dealt out just so evenly. When we needed the defense to come through, they did. And then from there, from then on, the offense clicks so well. They gave the defense plenty of time to rest. Those drives were extremely time consuming. And as much as Tampa Bay's defense just got softer and softer, the Cowboys defense was over there, resting over and over again. Because I'm telling you, uh, Michael Poston's does not have an off switch. It's hard for me to tell him how to play.
But he is exhausted, you know, even after again, even when he walks back to his side of the huddle, right he walked, braided right through. The guy wouldnt let him through. You hedn't like that. So their longest their longest possession, I want to say was ninety ninety five yards. Let me see if I can find that. You mean our offense. No, the Tampa Bay, well, you were saying they were getting off the field, but they had a ninety five yard u and that was their touchdown. They
went ninety five for that first touchdown. The other one that was seventy ended up the inner set option by Curse in the in the end zone. So the majority of their yards and they had like three eighty something came on their last M one two, three four drives when the Cowboys backed off. Of course, when after Curse was out of the game too. Yeah, Curse got hurt three h They took over three h nine to go in the third quarter. Got hurt on the first play
of that ninety five yard drive. Yeah, it's when he got hurt. And then their next possession they started their own sixteen and drove all the way down to the eleven seven seventy three yards, and and then their next possession obviously at which the touchdown drive was fifty two yards eleven play, so one wasn't possession. Webb McCarthy's like, now, mate, kicker, you go have a seat. When he went for that was on the CD touchdown. Yeah, we're gonna take care
of this. Yeah, And it was obvious Pollard went for five or six it was what whatever it was to nine or whatever, and he cut the distance in half. And but it was obvious they're they're not kicking a field goal here. I don't care. Yeah, yeah, we're all we want to we don't want to hurt your feelings, but we really don't care what this. You saw what Dak mouthed on the sideline after right, like we're gonna
go for Why aren't we going from dog too? And then that somebody asked him about it and he goes, well, he goes, that was the emotion I really thought they were going to go for. He said, that was the emotion of the time, you know, in the game. He goes, but he basically went up to him, he said, and I told him, hey, we all have bad days. We need but yeah, but and you know, what are you gonna do? Somebody on talk Rado this morning was like,
well they got to bring in another time. You know, everybody's saying that, were you gonna so you're gonna find the question. They asked you the question, right. He had to adjust it after the game. I even heard someone on the radio say, okay, you signed have another kicker, and then you have two kickers active. On game day, people are calling me saying do they have do they have a backup kicker? No, shut up, what are you talking about? Kick? And they said, yeah, we were listening
to the same thing. Well, we'll put him on the practice squad. And it's like, okay, but if he has a bad start to the game, if not, at this person said no, they wanted to put him on the Yes. Yes, the only way you can do that is if you sign Jeff Heath. Yeah, and then Jeff Heath can play special teams and he can kick a field goal in San Francisco. That's what he did. Remember think about this this late in the season. If you don't have a job, do you think you're still working out in case somebody
calls you. Probably not. No, you're on the beach somewhere. So yeah, they just got to hope he straightens it out. He'd better literally literally straightens it out, because him all year to have his goal every point, well every point, he cannot do this next week, think about thirty five fourteen instead of thirty one fourteen. They would have had the largest margin of victory. They had the second largest margin of victory over the weekend. San Francisco had an
eighteen point margin. Cowboys said dad to come from behind the BC Yes, and everybody else was nip and tucked the whole way. Good gangs, I love it, all right, it was a great weekend. All right, to talk about that next. We're not done with the show. We're gonna stick around for one more. Here make shots in just a moment. We paid how much for those lessons? She's doing great? It was after the curse interception. It was part of an eighty yard fourteen play drive they gave Dallas a twelve nothing lead. There were one, two, three third down conversions on that drive and then that ended with the Dak fourth down conversion for the on
the bootleg for the touchdown. All right, first facing third and one at the twenty nine yard line. They were at the line of scrimmage it looks like they may be running quarterback sneak here, and you could hear Dak's a kill kill kill, And they went wide with Zeke
and got three yard first down. Move the chains, okay, but the second one, in particular, third and three, Pollard is flanked out wide left with Schultz and they ran a route where basically Pollard was on schultz coattails there, and they threw to Pollard and converted for a five yard pick twice bill, but they did the next time with a wide receiver, okay, all right, So that was another terrific third and three conversion, okay, which brings us to forty six yard line. Third and eight. There was
no running back on the field for the Cowboys. They lined up Schultz in the backfield and they had Gallop left, and they had three receivers to the right, CD inside Ty and Noah was outside on the bunch three receivers on the right side. Schultz flares out of the backfield and Lavante David, the linebacker, vacated the middle of the field to go cover Schultz, and it left the middle of the field wide open for t Y Hilton on a crossing route for fourteen yards. In a first down.
And by the way, I'll stop you right there because I said something to one of the coaches about did they really think David could cover Scholtz one on one when he's outside and he goes that's the way they play it. They've been playing it like that. Oh yeah, those are extremely athletic linebacker. I know, very good lineback. Wasn't athletic. It's just not a yeah, it doesn't work out, especially once again, guys, and I said it last year.
Our offensive line after the first two drives gave that all the time he needed, which is another thing we need to do. But they were amazing. But back on the third downs, you know, you got your third down key play sheet, Okay, And that stuff that they back in the back in the coach's office is last week. That's what they saw what Tampa Bay, as you said, how they cover that situation, and they knew it was going to be there for him, you know, if they
had time with the offensive line. So taking away offensive line, hey, I'm just all I'm saying is we knew the offensive line. I always thought that the offensive line was going to help them overcome no matter how many points. Right to Tampa with a score. That's the way I felt going to the game. And that's where I felt, except for the Washington game, that this team was going to win
in the playoffs through right behind the offensive line. Well, in an interview, yes, throughout the week last week, and he had a hat on and he said something like, it was Avante Collins. What's that he had the hat on? You said? Somebody had no no, he someone was interviewing him. A young lady was, yeah, Dak, well it was Avontae Collins hat. Well, what did they say? The line stand behind our offensive line? That's right, and that's that is pointed it out. Nice press conference, nice, nice and so
and now think about it. What they did was be honest. He gets back. Zack Martin gave him credit for doing his rehab to get back in time for this game. So he's at center and they decided, well, let's leave the left side of the line as is. We're gonna leave Tyler Smith at left guard and Jason Peters at left tackle, and we're gonna use Connor McGovern as the fullback. The Mac attack right. And so they started off that way and then Peters gets hurt. It's a hip injury.
I can't remember if we talked about it. I think he's probably done, okay, really yeah, when he left as a forty year old, when he left with a hip injury, I figured he's probably and he may be done for I mean the injuries probably not career ending. They'll do whatever they gotta do. But at forty are you going to come back? So anyway, so then you're sure he's going to come back this year. Yeah, And then they decide, well, let's go back to what we've been doing. Connor McGovern
go from fullback to So think about McGovern. He had been left guard, center, fullback, left guard. Then he lined up at tight end on at least one play that game when he was the third guy, and so they went back to the two guys the inverted wishbone and Troy Troy said this. Troy said that Tyler Smith should win some sort of Rookie of the Year award. To think that he started in training camp at left guard
for rookie. They had to move him out to left tackle, then they moved him back to left guard, and then in the game he goes back to left tackle and plays almost flawlessly right. So this offensive line had a lot to do with the Cowboys running the ball enough enough, right, It wasn't great, but it was enough. This is what I wanted to point out. And they protected Dak. He
had time in the pocket. There were there wasn't. It wasn't about numbers in regards to the rushing yards, right, it was about once again we talked about all the time moments I saw where God that that defensive line for Tampa was really coming hard. First part of the game, I believe it was the third d the third UH drive and when you talked about the eighty yarder. At one point Polo ran on either first or second down. It wasn't it didn't end up moving the chains, but
he was. He finally is almost like he ran fed up because they had been getting mostly negative yards before that and this particular play he ran through there, it's almost like you're I'm going to split this no matter what. And from then on, that's when Polo started to gain his confidence and he knew what was the weakness and the softness of that defensive line. He started to exploit it more and more after that run. That was a realization for him, and that offensive was like the eighteen
yard run. I know it was only like a five or six yarder, it was it was the he finally broke through. You know, Tom LANDI always said it, when you have a line like Chicago with the forty six defense, it's difficult to break through, but once you do, you got something. Well, that's when he realized that he had a really good run. When they were first in goal at the six. Remember he pitched it to him and Dak followed him and like he was gonna try to do some block. I think said, yeah, that looked like
and it was a Schultz hole. But on the next play, Paula went for eight. He got him back down to the six, right, uh, and then Dak ran the option right. Uh, but yeah, you're exactly right. But yeah, that offensive line I just thought that stubborn. They were stubborn yesterday. I loved it. They were stubborn. We're gonna, we're gonna, you're gonna, you're gonna. It's gonna be minimum. But he's gonna be a what do he gets sacked? I think he got
sacked twice, is that right? Once and it was Vita Vea early in the game where he just he just wided us like he just just pushed everybody to the side with But here's what happened. They got tired. Yeah, they got tired. Well, that's why they kept going outside. They wanted those defensive linemen to get and the pocket was always moving. I love it when we called it like that. The pocket is always moving. I don't want my quarterback in that pocket too much. You're just a
big target there consistently. You know, I would rather us be very diversed on how we set it up. Okay, as we close this out, let's talk injury issues just a little bit here. And you mentioned Peters right now. Peters,
even though he Edmond used that much. When you look at the depth situation at tackle, that is a potentially a big loss for this team because now you're one injury away from a real problem at tackle, right and the next guy up would be Ball, Josh balla Abion Collins would be next, and then they they elevated him him right off the practice squad, right, But I think I don't know if they did that for you gotta keep you gotta keep the Smiths healthy. Yeah, you gotta
keep Tyler and Tying healthy at the tackle position. With Peter's going down and then the other one is curse right, yeah, finished the game fine, Oh yeah, he was fine, but he and I thought he played well. I mean after that, they all played well. And they got confused who was gonna double him because they doubled to the left and he came back to the right and Zach was helping the other way. So I don't know if they had
a bad line. They gave him. They gave you their quarterback a lane to throw to throw through those slants every QUI one those quick when whoever they like the one that Bill mentioned threw one. He threw one beside the tackle didn't even go past his shoulder. He just cut through it through that because he had lanes were wide open all the time, right the defense. That's one of the best games that offensive mind has played as far as pass blocking his concerned. And before we leave,
let's credit that last touchdown. I think it was the last one, right to Gallop when they know CD. That was CD was the last one. Yeah, the one way his wide open. Well, the one Gallop got. They they reviewed the back of the end zone where he barely stepped on the line, and then the guy they ruled the guy touched the ball, so he was eligible to come back in right, but his concentration the still after the ball got slightly tipped to still catch that. I
have a problem with that play. Uh huh. You when you have the shoulder on the defensive bat, he's got to cut it inside. He waited for the ball to come to him down the back of the end zone. He's got to cut off the dB because the DV go to one hand. He could lucky intercepts and something like not keep running parallel. Yeah, no, you yes, you gotta bend it in and and the dB is cut off. Then that's Drew Pearson. All good dB a good wide receivers do it. You have to cut off the dB.
Because of the way Dad floated it, he would have cut right into it. You see me. He gave the dB room and a moment he kept going going straight. You gotta curb that off and cut Once you get the shoulder on the dB, you gotta cut that off, and that way the dB is blocked off and you have but even an easier catch. And the only thing he can do is interfering. That's it. That's it. That's a good thing. Kind of maybe maybe nervous. There was no unnecessarily coat close. Okay, it's a quick wait. Now
I got to get ready tomorrow. That's the other thing. Now, this this mindset cannot enter that locker room over there. But it is crazy that they've got this schedule where you play a Monday night game. Uh, any team plays a short week in the playoffs, it should not happen. And I know that's I know it's crazy. In the playoffs, play play play Monday night next week. Then if it don't late, it was late. I had my uh, sound
cancelers in, noise cancelers in. I didn't see a lot of movement in that plane behind me in there where the players are, so I think, and a lot of them started making mentioned in the postgame press conference San Francisco. So I think they had put that behind it, And I bet that was the word after the game, right, just put this game behind Yeah, we got it, no doubt about it. There's no doubt. CD said it. You got Zack Mark. I saw CD's interview after the game. Yeah,
it's perfect. He didn't say too much, but he said justin Yeah. I think I think what they should do is because I think it's a competitive imbalance to have a team in the playoffs play on short rest. Yeah, it played three games on Saturday and play in three games on Sunday. Give ESPN the Saturday night game. NBC's got the Sunday night game and do it that way. I mean, think about had they had if they had to go to Philadelphia on a short week while them
joke well, I mean look at San Francisco. San Francisco sitting for two days. San Francisco got an extra day to rest. They get eight days and Cowboys get six. Yeah, yeah, it's not right. So but again that mindset cannot enter that locker room. You got to say, whatever happens, happens you. We just deal with it the price you pay for being the Dallas Cowboys because they know everybody wants to watch them in there. And I mentioned it in my column. Now from now on, we don't need to see that
crawler going across on all their shows. That DAK press pressures on DAK Prescott McCarthy on the HUD this I thought I was in the twilight zone or something. Everything they brought up was just like they're creating an omen or something like what the heck is it was all and we haven't mentioned it. It was all the ghosts of the past. And I'm can't my son can't win a playoff game on the run. Don't we have like
thirty thirty points a game? I mean I was talking, you know, don't we have like didn't he come back and have like eighteen straight passes completed after interceptions? Give me a break, man, I'm like, wow, this is this is set up. Nine game stretch after nine game stretch, after Dak came back from his injury, this team averaged thirty six points a game not mentioned oh anywhere. It was the interstit and to tell the look some stuff for comfort me leave. Man, it's so crazy that we
haven't seen any crawlers today. So we'll see. Hopefully the last hour has comforted you after set a record with eleven straight complete All right, So so starting tomorrow, Yes, it's Niners week. It's Niners And wow, what a history playoff history this rivalry has. And we'll talk about it the rest of the week. Right here. Oh, I'm sorry ever since to good stuff. Yeah, good stuff, good stuff. I'm part of that history. I love it. Good stuff.
That's forty You can even go back to how we got no wait wait wait, and with thirty years ago today how about them Cowboys? How about them Cowboys? Go Cowboys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
