The following. Here's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club Cowboys. This is Mick Shot screaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys at now. Here are Bill Jones, Everson Wolves, and Nicky Spagnola. And here we are, well here, some of us are inside the SWBC podcast studio. It's eleven thirty, a little after eleven thirty on a Thursday, and that means it's time for Mick Shots featuring Mickey Spagnola and

who and Mickey Slason's missing. No, no, no, Mickey is somewhere falling down a ski slope right now. He is right. That's right. You got Bill Jones, you got Everson Walls, and that is all you need. Who Who would schedule a ski trip this week of all weeks leading up to the start of the NFL's new league years, melted? I hope you know sounds like going down a ski slow, That's exactly that's right. And he was already complaining about it last week before he left. Because spring break week

so the same time, all the spring breaks. So well, the good news is we don't have to deal with Mickey this week that those things much. That's exactly right. That's right. And so we are here for pretty much the next hour to talk about all things that are happening, and so much has already happened, and so much is about to happen. Uh. And Everson came in here and he has actually done his homework homework, combine homework and UH.

And if you could pick a position group that Everson Walls might have studied or during the combine, you wouldn't You wouldn't guess this position. You would not guess this position. I would have immediately said, you you're checking out those cornerbacks. They're even the safeties. Well I didn't say that. I did not, Okay, okay, but still you know I had to hear him to do other things. You're excited about. Offensive lineman, I am man, Come on, Dad need some

protection and I want to keep Zeke around. See what we can do. I love it when he's got a full head of steam. Nobody's in front of him. That line has to open up, that whole boone. He's hurting somebody. That still happens. They can talk on the trash they want. That still happens with Zeke Elliott. All right, so that's something we're going to dive into a little bit later here.

Let's get into um, how about we get into things that are pertinent as far as this team is right now and what's been going on in the last couple of days around the league. Which would you'd like to hit first? Would you like to go with the musical chairs of the quarterbacks around the league or would you like to go with what the Cowboys are contemplating doing getting ready for the start of free agency next week? I want to speak on the musical chairs, All right,

let's do that. Where is Russell Wilson gonna get some offensive line? Help you tell me that right now? I mean, I know he's he's a NFL darling. I know he's amazing because he wasn't getting it in Seattle he was, and he's not gonna get it in Denver because first of all, they gave up all the fixed didn't to get him. So it is free agency on the market, you know, is it looming for divid Who else do they have who they gonna give up for a good free agent? Maybe more than one on that offensive line?

He still can't see over them. Problem he's got to move anyway. So that's what it is. That's that's what they decided in Seattle. He didn't need offensive linement because he could just create space. And that dad got him in a lot of trouble. Next day, you know, Metcalf, doesn't he disappeared and and come on, how's he going to disappear? Because he never had time to throw the ball well, and then uh, he needs a run game and he had he had a run game with Marshawn

there when they were going to Super Bowls. Now, I'd like what Denver's got that second round pick last year, Williams that I like him a lot, yes, yes, from last year's draft. But maybe they just need one then maybe they could just get I don't know if Melvin Gordon's still under contract with them or not, but anyway, Um so, Russell Wilson goes from Seattle to Denver, Aaron Rodgers staying in Green Bay. Such trauma, Oh my god, and never thought it would have happened. And Carson Wentz

is now back. You gotta see this guy again, man, We gotta see him again. We have to see him again. I gotta say, you know, I guess I'm just an optimistic person. You know, nobody ever thought I would make it. So I always give someone as much as I can, I give a benefit of the doubt. I can never I never want to tell a person they can't do something. And so that's why I'm always holding out whole Bocsson wins because you always have to say that about him.

You know, I can't give up on him, even though it seems like you should when all signs point that way, because you look at his numbers, like his stats from last year and it was twenty seven touchdown, seven picks. He had lowered his interceptions. You know, at one point everyone was raving about him one thing, because they were making the moves towards the end of the season, they were launching slowly upwards towards the playoffs. But what they remember is what they at last Well, that's what the

hell counts. I mean, it's not like they're picking on it. What did you do last man? Other failure? I mean, geez, when you got an opportunity to just beat the worst team in the league, Jacksonville, to make the playoffs, and that's one bit, that bit, that's one. It was another one, well, I think it was like two games. It was too gay. But but but the last thing that was the Jackson that was just that was the cherry on top of all of that stuff. Right, yeah, So did you see

what Trayvon tweeted yesterday afternoon? I did not. It was a little smiley emoji. Okay, all right, he might be a little introverted, but something's coming out and when he posts, that's when the extrovert comes out, right, uh huh yeah, okay, okay. I don't know that it had anything to do with the news of the day that Carson went going to Washing don't start that tweet. It was like, right, you goes. It was I think we looked at it. It It was like two twenty three pm. When you walk up from

his nap. He checked his Twitter. It's all whoa hey man wins to Washington? You know, you know, Aidan keeps him on his toes. Man Aiden keeps him on his toes. And so I was looked up how Trayvon has done against Carson Wentz when they played against each other, and so a couple of years ago, when Wentz was still with the Eagles, how many picks did Trayvon have against him? Two, he had two picks two two picks against two of his three picks his rookie year game against Carson Wentz.

It's just a coincidence. Yeah sure. Now that was a game though that Carson Wentzon. The Eagles won because the Cowboys started being to Nucci at quarterback then game so so so. Actually that game, Carson got the the last smiling emoji of that game. Anyway, But look at the NFC East. Now you got the dak at quarterback in Dallas, you got Carson Wentz, commander's quarterback in Washington. Okay, what's New York gonna get? You got Daniel Jones and then

whatever they decide to do. Your risky is being rumored there, and you got Jalen and Philly. You know, I don't care what the Giants do. They need an entire team. I mean, let's just be real. They need and just like anybody else, they need to start in the trenches because that's where Daniel Jones. He's okay, but he's not as bad as he's playing. He's just not. He's got more ability than that when you give him time, like

anybody else. You know, he hadn't had the time yet from being so young to be able to know how to thrive under that kind of pressure. You know, he hadn't he hadn't been successful at it yet because he hadn't had the tools to do that. I mean surrounding him. I don't necessarily mean yes, physically around and you know we've said for a couple of years, I mean, tell you what you want about Joe Judge whatever, and and

and Jason Garrett is the offensive coordinator there. They weren't going to do anything offensively until a short up there Jason left. What the heck happened? What happened when Garrett left? Uh? Same same over think it got worse? Yeah, I think it got worse. Yeah. So um, but the Cowboys that feel pretty good about things in their own division, when when don't they? I mean, this is that's not what we're worried about. You know, that's not what we're worried about. Matter.

In fact, I wish we'd get challenged a little more so when we get to the playoffs, we don't start stinking up to join. That would be nice B B playoff battle, you know battle already, you know what I mean? And I don't know what we challenged enough even when we played the teams that were outside of by division, they weren't necessarily winning teams themselves. High point moment, Tell me the high point moment for the season last year? Give me, give me the best moment. When did When

did we When did we peak? When did we peak? It's so hard to get San Francisco out of your mind? Best, So let's let's go back a little bitfore. When when did we peak? Bro? New England? There you go, Yeah, there you go. That was the best moment ever? And that was it? All right? Yeah, we thought we were ready, little did we know? Ye? Well, in the last player of the game. What happened on the last play of the game? Yeah, yeah, da to see? Yeah? And what

else happened on that play? What happened right? Yeah? What happened right after that? Didn't you see? Did you see Dak hobbling off the field? So things weren't the same after that? You think it infected it? You think so? I don't know, I mean saying, because he never really ran much after you know what I mean. It's almost like you have to force him to run. Seems sometimes I think that would really help him if he would become and I don't mean once again trying to knock

people over and stay up. I mean if he were to be very strategic on stop holding the ball and giving his receivers a chance, because he wants to reward his receivers. But also he loved that passing percentage, right, he admitted that once. Already that's that's just where it is. But I think he could he should also give him the team a better chance sometimes by just taking four or five yards. Man. And hey, it doesn't have to be exciting to be effective. You know, we no excitement

and we have too much of it already. I want that kind of excitement to whether it's in our favor. Okay, So and so, now what does Seattle do at quarterback? They didn't gino he's free agent? Is he he's free agent because they acquired Drew Locke in that trade? Okay? Okay, and what does that say? Well, he's he's on the team. I don't even what has he is he relevant? Has he been relevant? All Right? The other thing that Seattle did, oviously not you're not saying, yeah, you think the other

thing Seattle did was they released Bobby Wagner. Yes, I was looking at that I really was looking at that. I thought that would be very interesting. That would be really really interesting, any connection through coaches? Dan Quinn al right there you go. Oh we know what? Then come on, we gotta how much money you got called? Not how much of somebody else? How'm with you me? You want to bet somebody else? Did you see who? I really say who? The next talks the Cowboys probably connected to

who is that? Chris be Brandon Collins? Landon Collins? You got released in the division? Well, you know, I'm not a Spagnola numbers man, but can't we just give them some like one year deals? You know how they do it? One year deal. Just prove, prove yourself for one year and we'll see what's up after that. You impress us, and that's something that's the possibility. Yeah, under our cap you know, you got to sign your own guys right now? Yeah,

you have enough, that's true. So now, okay, considering that Dak has uh just in a joking way following on the sword contract wise, Hey we're structuring, uh, Zach Mardin we structuring, right? Am? I correct in hearing that? And that was what the way those those contracts were structured to begin with, it would be to give cap relief in years like this. Well, so it's not like so it's not like they they're taking pay cuts or anything. I understand that. But are they all like that? No? Not,

not all of them are like that. But the ones that you want to keep for a long time. Uh And Lawrence law Well, Lawrences is one that gets kind of a tweeter. It sounds like yeah because Amar's was not. Amaris is one that that they can go ahead and what's been talked about coming back to that, Yeah, we are going to come back. I want to know, did d law express some type of resinsence and restructuring now hit now his would be there has been The reports

are that he politely declined a PA politely. Yeah, makes a difference. But they don't have ever something. They don't have to ask the player to restructure. It's in their contract. They can just do it automatically, okay. And to be honest with you, most of the time, what it is, it's like a it's a bonus. So they just give them a bonus and they spread it out over a

few years. What what what was the deal? Then? Why why come out and be so polite well, now DeMarcus is what they're what that's a different okay, not oh wow, wait wait wait what injuries? What they trying to say? Well, because right now he is set to count twenty seven million dollars against the cap. Okay, and so they're trying to get relief there and they if I don't have the numbers in front of me right now, but if it's if he was a pre here's the way they

sell it to de Marcus. Okay, okay, he's got to figure out at his age what his market would be out there. What do you see? What? Let me as you continue fourteen direct Pigs, it's going into his ninth year in the league, so let's see thirty yeah, um, all right, so right now he's twenty. Came out boys, he'll be he'll be thirty April twenty eight. That's right. I did an interview with him just last month. We

talked about his milestone birthday coming up in April. All right, So right now, if he was a June first cut, yes, they would save it's eight million, he would count. Let me call it up. I don't want to get it wrong here, all right? The way they yeah, I just need to call it up. Well, First of all, eight thirty is a good a good age, not even thirty is a good age. His cap hit this year is twenty seven years, right, and before it would be nineteen.

So you save eight you save eight. But if you were to make him a post June first cut, it would be he would he would count eight million against the cap and you save nineteen million. So and if if you cut him before June first, he would count nineteen million, you're saving eight million. Okay. So, but what they in selling, and I'm not saying that this is exactly what happened, but in selling a okay, he's got so in real money that he's got coming this year.

His base salary in twenty twenty two is nineteen million dollars. Okay. Next year it's twenty one million dollars. Okay, So he is but just just in terms of this year, okay, he is due to make nineteen million dollar dollars a certain date okay in June, over the course of the season, over the course over the course of the season, that's his base salary this year, okay. Okay. And so when they are asking him to take a pay cut, now, they and they could rework the contract where he gets

more life on the end of it. Whatever. Okay, so he's got a way. Do I want to stay here in or is my market? Can I make nineteen million dollars a year or someplace else? Interesting? Okay? Interesting? You know, thirty, I'm a home But now they think differently. Everyone's moving. You know what the Marcus's mindset is. He can play. Yeah, right, he just turned thirty. He's just about turned thirty. And I don't blame him. He's a proud guy that I had a damn good year at thirty years, that's right.

And then the way he played well and the way he played after coming back from his injury at the end of the year last year, you know, came through. Yeah. So I mean you're playing on how much does he does he want to retire as a cowboy? You know? Does he? I don't think there's any of that anymore. Yeah. I mean maybe with quarterbacks, but that's just not a thing anymore. That's that has been a thing for a

long long time. Coaches, players, gems, it doesn't matter. Everybody's for sale, and rightfully so, I mean that's why I held out. You know, we kind of started. This whole thing is we have to use all the tricks and loopholes we can use to get as much as we can, because you always find out, I don't care if it's your mom tells you, your dad tells you, they're working for a corporation. They don't care about you, period. That's

what That's just what you know. As much as we enjoy ourselves, that's still the bottom line, we don't dwell on it, but we just know if this decision has to be made, we know what decision they're gonna make well, and so sure what they would probably like to do is figure their figure out a way to keep DeMarcus

and be able to sign Randy Gregory. And so that's the other thing that plays on the other side, is at even just at that position, can they convince DeMarcus to to understand that he needs to retire as a cowboy? Can they or convince him that you can make as much money here as what you would make elsewhere? Same thing, you know, same thing, right, Yeah, yeah, convincing however you can So can you know if they can do that,

that's a tough one. That's well, you know, they and and it all has a lot to do with the success of this team. Bill, And that's the thing. I mean, you have another year like last year, you're gonna have to You're gonna have to get buckets to bail out all the stuff from this this boat. So that's what

you have to think about. How what is the success That's what he's going to do a long What kind of chance can I have going somewhere else and get at least go to this You know, it's interesting because and I'm not saying he's a Hall of Fame player like de Marcus Ware will eventually be in the Hall of Fame, But the Cowboys went through this same thing in a way with de Marcus Ware when he went to Denver. And and that was and in fact, it was the same year that Marcus Lawrence was drafted. Okay,

it would have been. It would have been about basically a month before DeMarcus Lawrence was drafted in twenty fourteen. The Cowboys right up and it was I remember, in fact, I remember it's distinctly because my wife and sister in law were at a restaurant and De Marcus Ware the night before free agency started, and DeMarcus Ware was in that same restaurant. Will you remember? I do remember? Okay, it was delf Frisco and and he and so there

and I wasn't there. They're texting me saying, hey, DeMarcus wears here, like okay, I'll be there to say because from a news stand, boy, you know, what were you wearing? What were you wearing when you I didn't, I didn't make it up, okay, but what you didn't ask the question what were you wearing? I was at the house. I don't know. I was wearing shorts about you were going to come up there? You know, yeah, yeah ready for wow. I could be doing any of you right now. Yeah,

but anyway, just happened to have. They're telling he's on the phone. He's sir, sure is on the phone a lot. And I'm like, well, that's because this is a very big night in its life right down, That's right. So anyway, so DeMarcus wear gets let go the next day and then he signs with the Denver Broncos. And what happens in Denver He gets a Super Bowl. So that's not good for you know, basic for the DeMarcus go exactly.

I wouldn't I wouldn't point that out to law if he doesn't really know it now if we want to keep him, if we want to keep him. Yeah, So anyway, okay, we're uh we dive into well, we're going to dive into Amari Cooper when we come back about it. What's going on? You're you're you're looking at the copy for the first time, and so they want me to yell not by chance? Yeah, now some of it is capitalized.

So yeah, that is for inflection purposes. It have your roof checked by choice. And that's why Mickey sounds like okay, I thought he was. I just thought that was just yeah, well I lost my voice hanging with these kids at these football Yeah, what's going on with your football camps? Man? We went, uh, it's fbu uh. You have a great time with him every year. I don't have any coaching the likes UM certificates, but most of those guys down

that do. I just try to show them the stuff that I know, the defensive back mostly high school kids, and man, you get pretty close with them after a while. You know. First I'm yelling at them all morning, and by the afternoon they kind of get it. Yeah, And so then that's when we kind of hanging out a little bit and the kids get to know you. They said that, hey, they asked me to sentence connect through

with them through some type of social media. I was and I'm saying, I'm on Facebook, Like a look at this old guy. I'm like, hey, man, what do you want? You know, what do you want? Facebook? Kids used to be on Facebook. Yeah, oh yeah, that was ten years ago. I remember my youngest daughter when she was a senior in high school that that was. This was when moms and dad weren't on Facebook. Okay, this is yeah, it was about ten years ago, ten or twelve years ago.

And so go to lunch with my wife and youngest daughter, Jordan, and I announced it lunch that I have got on Facebook. You should have her face turned ashes, dad, what you can't be on Facebook? She would not friend me. Well that's the thing because they don't want you to follow exactly exactly. So get this to get that. Six months later, she goes off to college. Her first day at college, would she do? I got a friend request from her own face, but she was he was homesid. She wanted

to be my friend. Yeah, that's good stuff. That's good stuff, Bill, Yeah, funny stuff. All right, Amari Cooper and the Cowboys want to be friends with Amari still now they don't. Doesn't sound like so sad? So sad. And we talked about this, that taking the chance right on gallop we didn't think, I mean, right, that's a tough decision. But all End coming off a cl surgery just last month. Young legs,

young legs, right, how does he twenties six? Ye, that's young legs still still ready still and he was always extremely athletic. Yeah, I mean just I'm just stated how athletic some of the moves has got made. I've never seen people do that before in my life. Yeah, So I have a feeling he'll be okay, but that still okay.

So with Cooper and bring everyone up to speed. They haven't done anything yet with Cooper, and really it's the fifth day of the league years when his contract would become guaranteed, and so they have to do something by that by that time if they're going to do something. There are reports out there that they are entertaining some

trade offers whatever. But if you cut him or trade him his deal iss, he counts twenty two million against the cap right now, and if you cut him or trade him before June first, it would be a six million dollar cap hit and you save sixteen million a post June first cut. If you designate him as a post June first, he only counts two million against the captain twenty You save twenty million. Yeah. So but it's even more so than on the law one. So yeah,

that's true. Um So anyway, Uh, we'll see what happens there. But so what about no possibility of of I mean, I'm I'm just dreaming, right, I'm that I'm that that fan that's always hoping for the hopeless. No fan, no, no chance we keep them both right, No, thanks for

putting there. They've been taking that meal. Thanks? Yeah, all right, So, and of course you got to get a deal done with Michael Gallup, who is a free agent to be and there supposedly they were making strides in that direction, uh, to combine last week and so, and we're talking neighborhood of upwards of ten million dollars a year on Gallops deal. So if you're gonna pay these guys on the money, what do the Cowboys need at wide receiver? Basically consistency,

but I mean personnel? What are they? Okay, let's say Cooper's gone. Now what do you need at wide receiver in order to have this offense function the way Cedric Wilson is a free agent? Okay, he's gonna get some decent money out there. All right, Let's say you got Lamb and you do the deal with Gallup. Now, Gallup is likely coming off an ACL. I'll just speculate that he might start the year on pub as we've talked

to miss the first six weeks of the season. So now you've got you you did, uh, you did resign Noah Brown, and you've got they did they did, said man. And out of last year's draft, you got Ceme p Hoko as another wide receiver. Bet Brown come back. I bet I'll bet Brown comes back even smaller than he was last year. Okay, I think he would get even hopefully better shape in the sas not saying he was

out of shape. I mean I think he's going to continue with this the transformation that he's he's trying to make. I think he realizes he can he can really move better, uh and do better for us. I think part of it was deciding, Okay, is he a wide receiver or is he more of a tight end tight Yeah, you know h type almost and and you could see, you know, the way it was used in Jason Garrett's offense was

you know, in that in that manner, right, in that manner, right. Yeah, but now when now he's pretty consistent, He was pretty consistent at the wide receive a spot. You could see uh some some some promise. I didn't see him really just stinking up to joint, like, uh, I hate to be getting down on my buddy, Cedric man. I was so And it's like they said, you have to have players that you can count on in the most extreme situations. We know that. I think Gallop is one of those guys.

We know that CD. I think I think there are two of those guys Cooper of course, also the rest I really don't have much. I'm talking about in a consistent manner when you need them in a consistent and as much as we throw the balls, as much as we spread it around, there shouldn't be too much of a gap between the skill level of our receivers. Now, playmaking in the clutch is another thing, Bill, but I mean just a physical ability making plays. You know, I

can count on him, him, on him. They shouldn't be that far apart. Because we spread it around so much, you expect them all to do well, and when they don't, we lose our timing, which is what started happening to playoffs, along with all the other variety of things lamb and all that. But you're still if you're that guy, like like spac said, that's why he's a backup you have. You don't have that choice. You don't have that choice

when you are spreading the ball around so much. You don't have a choice to play like a back home. You don't have a choice. So it's how concerned are you losing? Amari Cooper? I'm very concerned because it's tough

with him being here here. Here's what I like about from a when you're managing a salary cap, a whole team salary cap, A Cooper is making so much money, okay, and then CD is going to be in that range here in a couple of years, and he was first rounding rookie money right now, Now, Gallop, you're signing him to what is a nice number two receiver salary. He's in the position with CD is going to be right if your number one receiver is in the eighteen to

twenty million dollars range. And once you know he's got gets a second contract, well, Gallop, you're you pencil him in. He's in the second receiver slot, high price, second receiver

slot whatever. Right. Basically, it's almost like, in my opinion, it's almost like the wide receiver position has become like the running back in that you have to if you got a Cooper Cup who produces at the level that Cooper Cup does, Okay, then okay, twenty million dollars fine, okay, because he's moving the chains on third down, he's productive, scoring touchdowns, he d fifty catches a year or whatever. You know, Yeah, and so you have to keep You have to keep them coming in out of the draft.

Every couple of years, you got to draft one of them. And so the Cowboys are in a position now they let Cooper go CD moves into the number one slot, gallops in the second slot. You draft one, I mean, and now you can draft one in the first, second, third round. You can draft what But there's another the

wide receiver. There are wide receivers out there, and it's been proven now here in the last few years that wide receivers can come into the league and actually can tru at right off the bat their rookie year too. Ye see these shows them, yeah, right, And so I mean it's Chase Chase with the other Beagle things, sure, Jefferson with Minnesota. I mean, the list goes on and on, guys, and so, uh, you just gotta keep it, keep rotating it,

you know. And I think with with Cooper, I don't know, I'm just looking at where how he came in and just changed everything for us, you know. And I know reminiscing is not You're not allowed to reminisce in the NFL. That's just it's not feasible. And so everything that he was doing for us back then changed everything, But I thought the consistency remained the only thing I see about our cowboy receivers. And it's just like we always attacked people when I was with the Giants. When someone gets

up in your face, then you better win. You gotta win. And uh, I never really isolated on what the because first of all, zach Dak was always pretty much surrounded by lineman by the time they've finished their routes. Our offensive system, you must have time to run your route in order for it to be successful, So it's imperative that the protection is there, otherwise your timing is off. And I don't mean you know you can remit it easily.

You can't because it's the routes themselves are They're timely, you understand, and there's sometimes they can be extensive, and you don't have time for that all the time. You don't have time for that five move, fifteen year all come back, you know what I mean. It looks good on seven on seven, we look good at seven or seven, but you can't do that if you don't have protection.

All right, So I don't know where the quote unquote blame goes on this, but when you look at Cooper's season last year and remind you this as a guy that you're committing top top, top receiver dollar two. First game of the year against Tampa Bay, he had thirteen catches for one hundred and thirty eight yards and two touchdowns. His second best game of the year came at Minnesota. Cooper Rush was a quarterback. He had eight catches, one hundred and twenty one yards came to his hands out

for tip pass. Okay, yeah, so there you're talking twenty one catches for what would that be two hundred and sixty yards but roughly and three touchdowns, all right. The other thirteen games that he played in he had forty six catches. He averaged three and a half catches in forty six yards a game the other thirteen games. So I don't know that production fell off in the other thirteen games for whatever reason. First of all, you gotta

look at tet so was it, Yeah, was it? The play calling was at the quarterback, that's right, And you know, you gotta figure out the defense changes and they start pressing more. You know, because as much as he looks slight out there, Mary Cooper is not a slight guy. He's around six feet tall. Now that's not huge, but that's not a little five ten guy that you're kind of beating up out there. And he's got all the moves that he can have, but once again, those moves

take time. Well, the other thing that the Cowboys have done with the wide receiver room is they've changed the wide receiver coach. Adam Henry's not here now and Robert Prince is the new wide receiver's coach. And you know, there's a story that was that I've heard. I know nothing about this, but the story talked about on some talk shows is that there wasn't enough juice coming out of that wide receiver room as far as it was chill, laid back. Oh well, because they're all so good. Yeah,

that's right. Yeah, it's not our fault. So is the makeup of the wide receiver room? Uh did it need to change? I don't know. Well, I mean, if it does get more aggressive, that can always be a good thing. More aggression is always good, And I'm pretty sure that's kind of the approach they're gonna take. Um. Yeah, probably have CD and they're lifting more weights. You know, they might change the whole attitude of everything he's gonna be running. He might start running the ball more. They might put

him in the backfield a little bit more. So be ready for that. If you want to fuss about it, you know, you want to be that guy, then we're going to follard out there at wide receiver a little bit. Tony's not bitching. That's they's not acting cocky. Tony is just tony, you know what I mean. So that's the difference. I mean. But these guys, if they're gonna be that group, then yeah, I'm gonna throw you out there and give

you all you can handle. And that's what Michael Irvin kind of was talking about and a few of the other guys. We we can't make everybody happy. In regards to spreading around, I think we are the teams that you see that do well. They spread it around some, but for the most part, you're gonna get your guys the ball. You can't treat you can't treat Cedric Wilson like you treat CD. You just can't. You CD need to get his We need to overthrow them to him

and he better be. He better get his butt open because we're coming at You don't come out of trying to be que time. You're trying. Now we're coming at you, so you need to be ready. You need to be Michael Irving ready. Right. I'm talking about work your butt off so much in offseason, just be so thirsty for everything. I hope that's what the change is when they change the coach, because I mean, yeah, he looks good when everything goes well. But man, when I'm looking for you,

I can't have you missing it. I mean, I'm back here getting my butt kicked. If I'm the quarterback, you know I'm open over here because they're trying to throw to you. If I'm a Marii Cooper, you better cass that dog on ball and versa. So that that to me. I hope that's the kind of attitude that they they they transformed to. And then of course, um the other news this week is Dalton Schultz back franchise, got the tag and they're working on a long term deal with him. Cool.

You like that? I do? Yeah, I really do. I talked to some former players when we watched the game, and they don't They didn't like him. It was a couple I'm not gonna say it was. I was kind of disappointed. Like, dude, what you wanted to do? I mean, and of course doing that game, he started getting off and having some play this is this is what he does. This is I'm trying to tell him a guy. So yeah, it's the mix, uh, the emotions out there about it. I happen to think that when he was bigger, he

could block his butt off. I don't know when he came to have when he came out of Stanford. He was his fourth round pick. But the one thing that they the book on him was Okay, he can do he'll do the little things, he'll do the grunt work. You know him in for that because Jarwin was weak as well in the blocking situation. And now he says he and Jowin must be read the same playbook or something, because now that both not not very good at all in the blocking situations. So yeah, we're so once again.

I mean, you can change the change the room with strange coaches. Maybe in the tight end room needs to be changes too. And strangely and strangely, the Schultz benefits perhaps from the Jarwin injury. Of course, with the hip surgery. You know, Joan was headed dead. Yeah you got yeah, he was headed to free agency and then man, Okay, now, Jarwin's got the rare hip surgery and that was my guy ability. I knew he could block with the crop,

but that was my guy man. And even though there's tight ends out there, you know he's Schultz has established himself the last couple of years, or particularly this year with Dak healthy. And then there's a familiarity with your cornerback. Both of them, they've been there with him. He knows

both of them pretty well. The bottom line two is, yeah, it's a lot of money at ten point nine million dollars as a tag, but if you you can get relief on that by signing him long term, I mean, it'll still be at that average, but you get immediate million good tight ends out Yeah, bost and second team, everyone has two, and you think both of them are really good. Right, So you're right, there's a lot of

tight ends out there. Yeah, and the Cowboys aren't out of the market for another tight end either, so that the draft, Yeah, that's right, all right, We continue with more mix shots. In just a moment before there was a draft, you could size up a Cowboy by three simple factors. All right, we've got about twelve minutes left on this edition of Mix Shots and Okay, the Cowboys this do you look at the timeline going forward next Monday, Next Wednesday is the

start of the league year. Okay, so that's when contracts can become official. The negotiating period starts Monday, and um, it's going to be very interesting to see what route the Cowboys go. Obviously they do not usually take part in a big money free agent signing like a Bobby Wagner would probably be Okay, do you think big money? You know, he was due sixteen million this year? Was his his what his number was? His game been, it's been, it's been really good. It's been good. It's still been

really good. Right, Well, we won't get him, No, we won't have that's that's that's okay, that's okay, we'll good, we'll good. All right. So then guys that they Cowboys should prioritize who are free agents to be Okay, you've got nineteen of them out there's now all right, let's start on the defensive side of the football. Okay, and right at the top would be your leading tackler from last year, Jay run Curse. Right, what do you think the market's going to be for Jay run Curse, Jay

Ron Curse. I think he can ask for a really really good I wouldn't say elite money, but right under that second tier. So what you think about about eight to nine a year? So that's out of the Cowboys market, I would think so, No, you think so if you're if you're paying Gallop and then you're paying yeah, depends you do not get him for cheap. No, you cannot get him for cheap, not after that year. Yeah, all right, defensive side of the ball, Randy Gregory. Wow, more than that,

we're talking what all right? Twelve, well, fifteen? You got Gregory? Uh, I mean we got Dak money, we got we got Zack Martin money. We'll be okay, Randy Gregory, j Ron Curse. Oh, let's do it by position. Defensive defensive line, you got Randy Gregory, Dorance Armstrong, Brent Urban, Carlos Watkins, and then you might have to Marcus Lawrence, depending on all right. Linebackers Layton vander Esh Keanu'neil. That's that's you know. I

was not impressed with either last year. Okay, DB's at cornerback, Maurice Kennedy safeties j Ron Curse, Demonte Casey, and Malie Cooker. That shows all those one year contracts they did last year. Now now you have to know what do you do? Yeah, and and I thought someone that actually faded, uh as the season went on quickly was was wasn't in the safety. I'm eighteen. I was very disappointed him. I really was. Uh, of course I want to the other two. And then Hooker,

you know, he was coming off an injury. I thought hook could played well. I thought he was right well for what they asked Hooker to do. And I thought he came on stronger. Yes, I think so as well. He was all over the field. He was all over the field. And he you know, he wasn't just like small out there like like uh Jordan. He seemed to be bringing more pop with himself. I think he actually

started playing a little bit more than Jordan's. All right, just just let's just say it's affordable on those on all those guys. I mentioned that you can afford to sign one, which is your which is your cap. You can't afford to sign which is your top priority. Randy Gregor, Okay, you got Gregory, Mandy Gregory. Okay, how now, how rich Are you willing to make Randy Gregory not as rich as d Law Okay, not as bitch as he's richer than Dalton Schultz, which is ten point nine million a year. Yes,

I do believe that, right, Okay, he's paid his dues. Okay, he did what he's supposed to do. Okay, and for a whole season. I think he can hold him for all season. About three seasons? No, three years? Okay? No, all right, So you're doing slight. He's so slight. Yeah, you're so slight. You're doing a deal where you can get out of it after the second year. He's so slight. Okay, all right, offense, Michael Gallup. We've determined that we Gallop is good, yes, okay, and you're fine a little over

ten million dollars a year. Man, I just hate to get with a Cooper man. I was just gonna throw myself. I was taking him over Cooper that's not already kept, Noah Brown. Otherwide receivers are Cedric Wilson and Malik Turner. The only reason that we keep said to Wilson, I would hope that he learned something from last year. Once again, my optimism and the other thing is because Gallip will be out. We're going to need him. I mean, we have no choice, right, We're going to need Sedi Wilson

at least for six weeks. It's just the way it is. I mean, you don't have it. You don't have five catches last year. It's the ones he didn't make, Bill I don't want to. So he was he was playing on a restricted free agent money last year, two and a half million dollars last year. He's gonna double that at least this year. And you know, to be honest, I'm just talking as a fan, but you know, he had a good he had a good year, you know. But but can you afford three years eighteen million dollars

for Cedric? You're gonna have to. You're gonna have to. I mean, is there any way you can shorten something up like that, because you're only dealing with the six weeks that you really have to make, really, not just the six weeks. You're still gonna he's another receiver. You're undraft one too. Yeah, yeah, so he's still that's still enough for him. There's still still no room for him.

I don't know how to see what the market is because there's gonna be a lot of wide receivers out on the market, So all right, uh offensive line Connor Williams, tie Insecky and okay, uh oh yeah Putter and your long snapper Brian Anger and Jake McQuaid. Oh no, I gotta have Anger. I gotta have Anger as my dude. Okay, he's he's he's my Uh, he's my He's my defensive guy, he's my my twelfth defender. You know, the way he keeps us in the game, just by the way he

kicks the ball and that that's pretty that's impressive. I hadn't seen that since uh Sean Lindetta. Sounds like he's gonna be out there on the market though. Well see, yeah, sounds like it. Nobody cares the kickers to just treat it like clap. You just said you care. I do, I do, but I don't count. I can tell you all right, So we just settled it. We did. Uh huh. They're listening to. You're keeping listening to. You're keeping Randy

Gregory and jay Ron curse. If you can't, okay, and you have to keep, said Jack Wilson, you have to, you just have to. You have no to us who's playing linebacker for this team? We only need one one linebacker? Michael, Yeah, Michael and anybody else, Ye, Mike and anybody else. But you don't you don't think we look at the linebacker. You don't think we have any the young guys who could back up and do something. Jabril Cox coming off an injury. Uh, Gifford is uh what kind of promise

do you think? He asked? Well? And Gifford is a restricted free agent, okay, And so it sounds it's like what they want to do with Gifford is work out a deal and not give him the restricted free agent money. Of a name, and I like him as as a reserve. He came a strong Yeah, yeah, I like him as special teamer. And may you gotta like the name. You gotta like the name. You kind of pull a phone

just for the name. So yeah, okay, Um, anyway, it's gonna be very interesting to see drafting an offensive life first offensive line number one? So are you so you believe in drafting for position? I do? How many times have you? That's how you build your culture, right? I mean that's how the Redskins got that be the Hogs, right? Okay, I mean who else can we think of? Jeez, great Titans, the Tennessee Titans, you know what I mean? That that may the made for that. You know, that's the culture

that there's the Ravens in the in the trenches. Well cowboys developed that. There you go with first the Tyre Smith pick in the Travis Frederick, and then the Zach Martin and then Lyle Collins. It wasn't a first rounder because of issues, but it's great. Yeah, but you might. But now let's be well, uh, but you can't. You can't put a live collars with with that. You can't put a signing of live collars the way you can

be with the signing of the difference though the difference though. Now, Frederick was a thirty second pick, okay, Um, they drafted, they traded down and took him late in the first round, and Martin was mid first round and Tyrann was a top ten pick, number round number ten. Okay, at number twenty four, you're not getting the same quality typically. Have you looked at my guys? Oh I tried. We don't have to look at him now, dude, they have a bunch of guys. Somebody, First of all, you got this

kid six feet seven inches tall. Oh my god, uh three hundred pounds. He's from my Arizona State killings d I e from, No, I don't. I was outside the Big Green NFL Draft. He's from Trophy Club Texas. I was, I was gonna ask you about Texas connections. Ass and you know what, my second one because the first one is not him, the first one because they ran first, they said he'll probably be the first pick. I kim uh equo long gun, long gun. He's long gun. He's gone. Yeah. Yeah,

they said he'll be the first one. Six four three ten nouth Carolina State. I mean these guys, he ran under five flat. Both of these guys were under five flat in the forty. They probably beat me running man. Just ridiculous. And they had the other guy. Of course we're talking d Lineman. He just can't pass him up. No, I have to talk about this guy five to nine. But Texas and them had Kenyan Green. They talked well

about him. Bro, well you think about him yet, because okay, so I thought, you know, Texas kid, I was one of if he was a Texas kid. And they keep giving this guy so much praise from Texas. See that look at that. Keep giving this guy praise. He's six to two, three hundred three prowns from Nebraska. His name is Cam Jurgens. This is the guy that makes bids. I don't beef jerky stupid. Uh he is, I believe he is. And he ran a four to ninety one. Very athletic kid. They had a lot of athletic guys

out there. Man Lsu d Ingraham. He was good running to forty. I mean it's them ran the five, just missed the running up five. I think he actually ran it now he ran a five point h six. He only got like three one hundreds of a second better. And and then all up their accomplishments and outlo Trophy finalist was for the Long Gone like you said, mister uh Man, that's his middle name, long Gone. Yeah, because they said he would be the first one look up

Zion Johnson. He's another I got it right here, I got I'm getting to him somewhere around here. Yeah. He was good to Johnson or the two guards that are going to be Hey, the one I liked was this kid. Uh, Trevor Penning ran the four ninety one. Let me see his dimensions. Uh this guy, Yeah, that's the six seven guy. No, no, this is another six seven guy from the University of Northern Illinois, six feet seven inches tall, three twenty five. He can slam a basketball win Meal style like Vince Carter.

I got the video right here. Well he picked up. Well, he can slam defensive ins because he was doing that at the Senior Bolts, right, He's amazing. That's another laws again. Penning Penning is a Penning Oh Penning. Yeah, yeah, So that's University Northern mill North. He's he's just a stud, all right. Did you see the cornerback from UTSA, the one that Tarik Woolen? I didn't see six four, two hundred and five pound Tarik Woolen from UTSA and Fort

Worth Arlington Heights High School. He ran a four two six that's the six four. Oh look there he is right there, six four two three one unofficial, but the the correct timing of it was a for the official was a four two six. I see a four two nine is Oh no, that's the bailor guy. Yeah, Baylor. So Baileys, did you did you know did you notice that the unofficial forty times were off from UM from what the officials were by a good what's going on with it? I got the inside talking about the I

got the inside story on that, Chris Beam. Did you hear? Do you understand? I did not? But it was a computer a little slow. No, you know, they hand time, They hand timing. No, no, no, no no. When when it airs live on NFL network, they're relying on someone who is timing them with a hand timer, and he communicates to the truck that four three h four three one okay, because they don't have the the official time yet and they want to be able to immediately put

it on the screen. So you have to have someone and experience scout who knows how to time these guys to make it to the scout. No, and in the years past they've been really close on him. Okay. You know who doesn't work for the NFL network anymore is that Charlie Casserly. Charlie Casserly was the guy who was timing them for the NFL Network broadcast all these years, and he wasn't there this year, and so whoever was timing him didn't have that same Charlie Casserly is the guy.

And don't you know that Charlie Casserly is sitting there at home watching there. You know, he is uses a lot. They don't get anything a lot. I'm timing them here at home, and I'm getting the right. They should have just hired him from a home. Charl Yeah, I tried to Casserly cast the Charlie cast. Oh dude, didn't they think of that? Oh man, hey doesn't have to now you go. But he could be Facebook life Chris, I'm sorry. So that was the story why they were off on

so many others. So who was the guy they don't know? I okay, here's one. Here's what this guy real good? Before we go Texas Tech. You've seen this kid? Well you know, but I'm sure you do. Uh, DeMarcus Fields, Okay, two hundred and twenty two tackles. This is a career, thirteen and a half tackles for lost, two sacks, forty five pass broke breakups, four interceptions, and four force fumbles. Texas Tech. His kids are stud man. You sound like

Gil Brandt. You're getting into the sky. See you told I wasn't gonna watch this because I hate the draft. I didn't get draft. Give us a craft. But you know these you just kind of especially after seeing them get drafted doing the pandemic, man, and I'm glad that people could see that. Man, those kids have tough life.

You know. They played with this great school, but when they go home, they just home and home is hard, you know, and they see and then there's so many ways of finding out about these guys too, YouTube, whatever, social media, and you can find out that, oh this guy does a windmill, dune whatever, you know. Yeah, and it makes it interesting. They need that. Yeah, So now this is good stuff. All right, well good, I can't wait pick your brain over the course of the next

six weeks leaping up to the draft. All right, I think if Mickey survived the mountains, he'll be back next week. I'm not gonna be a whole bunch of stuff to talk about next week. Oh he's gonna come here ranting. Yeah, can you imagine he probably doesn't like the uh, you know, the skateboard, the skyboards. Next week. Free agency starts on Wednesday, So that's right. Nice to be Thursday. You'll know a lot, yea, we will know a lot by Thursday next week. All right.

That does it for mix shots for this week, and we'll talk at you again next week. All right Go Cowboys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club, so
