The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This is Mick Shot screaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys have now Here are Bill Jones, Everson Wolves, and Nicky Spagnola. Oh what a difference to day makes. As we are out here on the Tostito's Championship Plaza, the sun is out, it is warm, and it is a wonderful Friday here as we're doing our fun Town
r V tailgate. The tailgates right, and maybe unfortunately for me or fortunately for these guys, I'm in charge because Bill Jones had duty on CBS eleven, So Mickey Spagnol along with Everson Walls as usual and coming out of the bullpen first, Nate Newton. You say Bill was in the restroom. The rest room, You say he had some due, he had some duty to do. Good Differently, sound for trouble for these next forty five minutes here shots, Oh Jesus, that's what I do. But I come on with us.
Actually it was, oh God, So how can you run a show when you can't even control yourself doing the press covers? Well that we want to hear about now in charge. Now you're in charge. I talked to myself, Okay, Unfortunately I didn't mute myself. That was the difference. Okay, all right, all right, it's a it's a fabulous Friday here. It is of fabulous Friday here. It's like sixty some degrees. The sun is out and we're out here on the plaza,
people walking around. Unlike yesterday, right, little Fridgid, Yes it was, and people weren't like participating with us. But we are here getting you ready for Cowboys Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Sunday Night Football Night two four and one against two and five. That's what the nation wants to see, yes, because at twelve o'clock the same day you have Pittsburgh and the Ravens Planets. Yeah. Well the public has spoken, Yeah,
they wanted to see the Cowboys. Well, you know what we need We need to check the TV ratings on those two games because it's still the Cowboys, right right, yeah, and don't you forget that. And you know, the people in Philadelphia rabbit about this. They're gonna have about I think three thousand people maybe uh in the stadium. Uh. They haven't been having people for their home games, but as the Cowboys have rapped out some tickets to the highest bidder, Boy, you believe it's gonna be some booze
up in that stadium booing. Yeah, I told you, guys, Nate, I don't know if you saw it. My son he saw where in Philadelphia the sound guy didn't put he didn't put on the boo recording. He typed boo right type boo. So yeah, that's pretty cool. Well, hopefully the Cowboys bus can get to their hotel, right. They've been having some problems in Philadelphia downtown these last couple of days, So let's hope everything's up. Life gets in the way. And before I forget this, I want to do this
because I know you guys are with me. Um Our regards to her battle three times super Bowl winning and one with one with the Cowboys, one with the Cowboy one two with the Packers. Growing up, he was my guy. You know, I was a Packers fan right in Chicago, and uh and he was my guy. He was awfully, awfully good. Then came here. Uh and I saw a tweet from Gil Brandt saying that he solidified that defense in seventy one. Right, he was the glue. He was the Dion when they when they brought Dion in to
show these guys up in the nineties. That's kind of the way Addlie was brought was already short up. He just uh was an added it. Well you had had you wanted to say he was a right well yeah, Mail you had uh guy? What a second day Cornell Green mel renfro Right, Yeah, herb addele that's three out of four right there. That was some bad boys. Boys, some bad boys. Yeah, absolutely So anyway, Herb Baddeley passed.
Remember just so you know, he talked U fifteen years ago about his experience in Dallas and even though he did enjoy being with the Cowboys, he wanted to let the Packers fans know that he's a true Packer. Right. Well, absolutely, I can't. I just I couldn't believe they let him go. That was the thing that stunned me. That was like they thought he was done and then he came here
and had another good season. All right. So the Cowboys heading into this game, and from everything that we've heard today, it sure sounds like Ben Denucci is the starting quarterback. Mike McCarthy did not want to like say, okay, he's the starter. But then he pointed out that, well, for Andy Dalton to start, he would have to practice on
Saturday because that's our last full day. And he said, and he's not scheduled to practice on Saturday, so something would dramatically have to happen for him to start in As a matter of fact, when Jerry Jones did his radio intersegment this morning, he just said that, uh, well we'll see Andy Dalton next week. So Ben de Nucci is your starting quarterback. It has come to that the Cowboys in their third string quarterback having to start in this game. Dalton still in the concussion protocol and we
know Daku is out for the season. So do you guys have any any feel for de Nucci? Naton? We saw him a little bit in training camp, but that was it, right. He's James Madison products, same as Charles Haley. He's a he's a work hard guy. He's a great, great athlete. He can run, he's got good quickness. Uh you know, and I and I'm ready. You know everything that I've been a part of this week, uh, media wise, I've said I'm ready for the Denucci Nucci era. And
if he say, what do you mean by that? And I mean that he signifies that there is a permanent change coming in Dallas with young guys. Good lord, we'll see the kid out of youthy, the demons of men a. Nay, we will see more of Hamilton. We will see just a bunch of young guys. And that's what I mean by the Denuccia era. Uh. It makes your offensive coordinating head coach look back quickly into his past and see the things that he liked and what correlates with their
program to get him gone. I'm excited. I'm excited as I has been, as I've been Walls and Makeing years, because whether it's it's forced or whether it's just something that the Cowboys want to do, a change is coming. And it's called a youth movement. And I'm not always about you a youth movement. But the last time we had one, it was Jimmy Johnson and Everson Walls around off fifteen rounds. And and hold that thought, because when you when you said that about all my part, I
give my part, guys, great sacrifice my career. And then they brought in the youth right. So that's a good point, Nate, because think about this, if if if Denuci this is his opportunity right now, think about this, if if they like what they see. And remember Andy Dalton's on a one year contract, so next year and we're gonna assume Dak comes back and he's Dak, you're gonna need a backup quarterback. So basically what he's interviewing for right now
is maybe that job going forward next year. So if he plays well, then uh, you know it is what it is? Are we looking at him stepping up into the second spot? Uh? I mean even with that, let's say Dalton doesn't doesn't feel well even after this weekend, right and has a great game or just a decent game, and we win the game. Let's say he manages well. Is that enough to move him up to the backup Well, it was enough for it was enough for White and
these other guys who didn't even play. It's enough. I have respect for coach mccarthur his ability of what he think a quarterback is. I really do. And that's why I probably don't uh sit well with a lot of higher ups because I believe that coach mccarthur should be calling in the plays, you know, and and helping this young quarterback developed, because, believe it or not, whether these quarterbacks were he got a lot of quarterbacks paid up
under upon the Aaron Rodgers. A lot of quarterbacks played one year, three games and got paid millions. So it's something to this guy man. Uh Brunell, Yeah, Brunell. No, the guy that who ended up going who went to Seattle. I was trying to remember. But he got ten million dollars to get beat out by by a rookie, right, yeah, Well, we'll see what it happens. And you know, they they
adjusted the offense last week. They went more two tight ends, yes, shorter routes, sir, Which is kind of funny because they did these adjustments and everybody goes, well, why didn't they change the offense? Well they did, they changed it. Why didn't they throw the ball down the field? Well, because he didn't have time. We can start right there. This is the first time in a long time, and and you noticed it with Dak being gone that uh offensive
line for the first time in a long time. I couldn't say great job, coach, Fieldman, because from the opening play they was coming. They saw what the previous team the Cardinals had did with those double blitzes off the end with the corner safety, you didn't know which one was coming, and they got after us many they maintained their one on one blocks and it did not matter
because they had safeties in line backers. With time, they rushes and then when that didn't happen, they took they did what they had to do with them first five them five five rounds, first picks. That was in the first round. And boy, this is the first time I can say, man, office, well do you give do you
give him a pass for that? When I say a pass meaning you can understand all of this inexperience versus five first round draft picks, I mean, it's what you're expected to happen, right When if these guys were seniors in college, if they would all stay in college, have been twenty two years old. And that's what these guys were, twenty two year old guys playing against first round picks. If if they were in college this they would be killing folks, right, But you're in the pros man different
and that is the difference. And like I said, they tried to ski, they tried to do everything. They power. But sometime you have to be smart enough. And I know I am, and you are Walls and you are Mick that sometimes you're just not gonna win. You gotta know that. Personal that was a perfect match. I thought it was a perfect matter. I thought de Nucci said it best. After the game, someone asked him about playing in the NFL. Yes, sir, and he goes, well, yeah,
there's a difference. He goes at James Madison, I didn't play against no Chase Young Pyne. Yeah, no not or yeah, on the same team. You know, it's just amazing that. Uh, we hate losing. We hate as players, Mickey, as you coming up in your life, you always try to win everything you've done. We hate losing her. But I, for the first time in a very long time, I see the big picture, and the big picture is youth and enthusiasm and learning to do things in the probing. Right.
I was gonna say, you hate losing, but as a professional, you have to know how to lose. Yeah, you know you have to know what your your reaction has to be professional. Yes, that loss should inspire you or teach you something. Yes, that's the way we always looked at it. Yeah, I got my butt whipped, but I'm not gonna get I might get my butt whipped again, but not the same way. Fashion. Yeah, so you're gonna have to do something different. That's that's the the monica. Pretty much every
athlete or coach, you can't. We can't let things keep happening the same way. And that's the issue that we have. On the defensive side. I'm gonna go back offensively. Uh And you know, Stags and Bill and I've been talking about this. I want to know your take on we talked about Washington. What about that that that Amazona defense. I was very surprised I was, and just how good they were, especially in the secondary. I'm talking a D line for you. That's what I'm saying. Everybody was worried
about Challenger Jones. I almost call you that week, Mick, and I want to tell everybody they had fourteen sacks coming into that game and Challenger Jones only had one. Yeah, that he's the Vince Vince Joseph, their defensive quarterback, quarterback on the coordinator. Used to be the head coach for Denver. Now he's their coordinator. And he put up a scheme and man Budda Baker their corner pieces. You didn't know
who was blitzing. And a lot of times you saw both our tackles after plays where the quarterback's been hitting like I didn't know I had that guy, I didn't know where the protection was. He did a great job of scheming, and those guys showed up big time, so that did not shot him. And I tried to tell my guys all week, hey man, the defensive coordinators coming. And that is where I would say again that I would like to see our head coach match wits with
difference coordinators. So did you notice that Washington did the same thing, Yes, sir, early in the game and and twenty six to safety blew his achilles out played for the Giants. I can't think of his name, Collins. Yeah, I'm telling guys on my shop, Brod, this is coming. Get ready for the double blitz. Whether it's the safety out of the corner, you don't know which one is coming. We have to be prepared for that. Early in the game, boom.
And then the first time he did it Cowboys right side, Yes, sir, if I remember, Crag and Bill talked about it yesterday. The offensive tackle took the small guy, yes, sir, and left the big guy for Zeke. Yeah, you got to do it the other way around, right, So yes, sir? Do you have is that? And what choice to make as a lineman, like the choice to make is whoever's inside. If they're both equally blitzing the guy that comes inside,
you have to take let the outside guy go. That is either the running back out, the quarterback and the receiver has to see where as you saw in that game before where we did the same thing to the Cardinals but all Fitzgerald, and Fitzgerald just turned around. He didn't even go off the line, He just turned around to whenever you read I see the blitz, dude tossed it to him for the first down. That's when he stripped.
It's so many things that go into a scheme. You know that walls, You know that, Mickey, and we're not experienced enough as an offensive line. They are battling, they're fighting. When they know who to get, they can latch on to him. But a lot of times this scheme that these teams are branking these days, and it's all recommition, and that's what happens with experience, right, And you're playing with a bunch of pups out there. Yeah. So so
it's about time we take a break. And by the way, I've got I want to go to this offensive line because the Cowboys have a guy at least coming back might help out Nate Newton, Everson Walls, Mickey Spagnola. This is mixed shots on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and we're out here on the Tostito's Championship Plaza. It's the Fun Town RV tailgate. Oh jeez it, go, oh god, Hey, they're Cowboys fans. Everson Walls, Mickey Specdola, Nate Newton with us on mix shots. Nate used to be are talking Cowboys. Partner up me in on this thing. Man. We need we need our ace from the bullpen. That's right, absolutely, dude. So going forward, we were talking about the offensive line. Can one guy make a difference. Zack Martin will be back at right
guard this game. He missed the last game in concussion protocol, got knocked out of the previous game, and they were with another guy making his NFL debut, Connor McGovern, who I think this last game played decently. But can Zack Martin give this offensive line something that they can kind of hang their hat on. Yes, Yes, Zach is cool, He's calm, He's an ultimate professional. He's VERNI a Pro Bowl office, not true all pro, not one of them
vote ins out of eight people. Man, just a great individual. Man, It's just a great individual. He bring calmness to that room. H And when they look out on I feel they'll see how it's supposed to be done, whether things whether some adversity has been there, or whether things have been great, you'll see a calm, cool customer, and so it will build help. Now the question you have to ask and
I and I don't want to move him. I want him to stay read at the right guard regation But now do you say Connor McGovern is a better right guard, then still is a better right tackle. So you have to ask that question because you have to have the best guys out there. You know, Ben Denutche is not a throwaway piece. We have to stop drafting guys in the field the sixth round and thinking that though that they're not cannot do that. Yeah, so you know, you never know who might be playing. Do you put the
best five out there? I'm open for anything that makes this team better and gives them opportunity to play well. Notice I didn't say win a game. I say to play well and to start building for next year. So you mentioned right tackle, What about left tackle? Can can can Connor McGovern play better right guard than Cam Irving can play left tackle? Well, the thing about it, you gotta leave Cam even though he's not uh, he's just
an average left tackle all right tackle. Leave him out there, and you put the big fellah, the President at the right tackle. You know you don't as much as I love the President that thing over the left. It's a whole different beat. All right, Which one did you get? I went to the right tack? You went right? Yeah, even though mister Wootton tried to sign me with the Eagles that left side, Miss Wooden, As you think I'm crazy, I ain't even to be out of the league. Well,
look this is Nate Newton. Fam you HBCU could dunk a basketball right in college and sim on that left side, but you wanted me to be. But I was not gonna be dumb enough to be out of the league. See, we don't question Zach Martin from left guard all the way the right tackle, right, I promise you. Over the left left, time will question. So he stayed at tackle and had to mess with drama. Right man, come on,
let's move on. Okay, can I can I ask the question? Okay, here's what Here's here's what I heard on the way in. And of course that man in my mistake because I never listened to the sports talk radio because I just think they come up with all kind of crazy stuff, getting rid of Everson Griffin, getting rid of Poe, getting rid of worldly. Are we throwing in the towel? Yes we are, Yes, yes we are not. We are not trying to win the division this year. You still have
opportunity because we're so bad, Thank god, division, We're so bad. Okay, you have an opportunity, but you have to play mistake free, no turnovers type of football. Now I'm not saying the Cowboys can't do that, but these are young guys. I mean our nay out of Utah. The outside linebacker who's
gonna get a lot of run. He's gonna see some things he ain't seen before, you know that ever since you know, And so we're asking for Big Hamilton Uh to come in and do some things and to play and be exposed and more than just fifteen plays per game. Guys gonna you know, gonna find out. Man, I ain't even shape as I thought I was so mentally, and you know, if you're breathing hard, you know what hit his neck is the head like fatigue ys Kyle was
of us all. So, yeah, they got to work. So I'm gonna disagree with you, Okay, yes, sir, you because they got rid of two thirds of that was dead weight. Yes, it was literally yeah. And I said this RV and I said this yesterday. Huh. So they've got three guys that are getting ready to come off of injured reserve, Yes, sir, So they got rid of three guys right that we're
gonna be here next year, that's right. So they hung on to what you've been proposing, the young guys, right, So at some point, well this it sounds like Cheeto's gonna play the way they talk. Maybe not the whole thing, but he's gonna play. So they gotta take him off of injured reserve. That means they would have had to cut somebody. Well, they already did. Shahn Lee at some points coming off, either at the end of this week or next week, you gotta make another spot. There's a
a spot there open. And then at some point Joe Looney's coming off. You gotta make another spot. So now you got three guys coming off of r You just opened three spots, Okay, and we don't need to get into Don Terry Poe right, Okay, Right, But what I'm saying here is they open up three good spots, you know, guys that are not gonna be here. Only one of them was productive and that was Griffin. Okay, but still, uh,
Looney is a guy we need. Uh. I love Sean Lee, and I've always fought for him to be on his team, more as a coach than a player. He's already coaching. Yeah, so if he don't play a snap, it won't bother me Sean Lee, because I'm already moved on, you know, and I pray that he's on this coaching staff. But other than that, right there, we're good, man, Okay, so good. So tell me this. Joe Looney's back right, you're gonna leave, Yes, sir, I am I. When you make this move, don't go backwards.
You cannot make this move and go back. This is the youth movement you're talking about. Yeah, even that linebacker, I want to see. They got another kid, number forty four. Can't call his name, Bernard, Bernard. Let him play. Let these kids play and learn, and the teams and I promise you if they can get through Pittsburgh, the Ravens survived that we went through some bad times. Well, let's be clear, survived. What does that mean exactly? Because because physically, yeah,
let me tell you what. Man. The reason I'm thinking I'm glad it's a youth movement because I use Diggs. If Diggs would have stayed with this present team, that would before they stopped making these cuts. That is not good for Diggs because you're seeing lazy guys that don't care about the system in this situation. What does that show Digs? Digs out there trying to play it's hard out, getting burned week in the week out, trying to battle and all of a sudden, you got guys in front
of it. Man, I don't know how you're doing all that. Yeah, no, how you put our knee in there? You put even atwine Woods have been playing good. Tyron Crawford is starting to come back in the shape. You got guys that care. Now, this kid said, okay, we're losing. We got some dogs out here, and that's what exactly what they need. But but just remember they needed to create three See, I'm glad they created and they didn't get rid of young guys. And the thing with Looney, so I agree with you,
be honest. Yeah, it's it's almost like in eighty nine Stepnoski finally took over for Tom Rafferty. Yes, right, and let's go right, that's that's the future. Uh Joe Looney serves a purpose because he can be your backup center everything and guard. Yeah right, yeah, no tackle, no, I don't think so. But the key thing, because see what they had to do last week is they had to bring uh Marcus Henry off the practice squad and make
him active and he was the backup center. So basically you had a backup center, a backup guard, and a backup tackle, which is snat that we haven't seen yet. But but before with Looney was the backup, you only had to have two seven offensive lineman active. So I think he serves a better purpose there. I heard a lot of people say, well, they need to start him at guard. I don't. I don't know. It's a better
guard than than than the two that you had. And I think they would have started him because you need your best five, right, you know, even though our division is not great and you have to prepare, you know, we laugh. But the Stillers showed you what they were made of last week, brother and and and they've always shot to me and the Ravens. They went out and
out of the piece. So yeah, you you better, you better have your best five offers a linement and the because they don't have to bring safeties and corners, even though the Reskians have to do that either. They did, so it only gets better. Man, So what do you expect from Jim Schwartz. He's coming after him, just the
way the other two. Yeah, man, I've heard I've heard that mister Schwartz even off the football feeling a nice, very intense heard that man, no, no, he chased down you saw he chased down, uh, the San Francisco coach back when when Harball was the man. I mean he chased him down because he said shook his hand too hard. Yeah, he was exciting, you know, Harball easy. Yeah, we won the game. It was in Detroit. Schwartz was the head coach at the time. He was upset. Yeah, he said
that was too rigorous and he chased him down. And Hardballs like you what's your deal? And and Schwartzen like you know my dealers. He's already bucked up, right, Yeah, so he always he ain't calling some bad names. Yeah, so he coming now he's coming with So can I can ask you something, Joe Thomas, what is his status? So with with vander esh playing, yes, at middle linebacker, he'll be probably the backup at all three positions. But the key thing is is what Sean Lee when he
comes back? Yeah, you know do they do? They put him as the strongs because they still haven't played a true four three right, because they've been standing up a defensive end over there as a strong side lineback. It's almost too late, it's almost too late. You've vent, you vent, you're in this transition and to go back and say, Okay, well we're gonna learn some new some new ideas. I'm talking about young guys. The old guys they make him
make that transition. But now you're talking about telling the young guys. They don't spend seven eight weeks plus training camp trying to learn what you've taught them. Now some of the principles may change. They'll be like, come on, coach, you already I'm already staring in the backfield, which you want me to do. Now, why can't we be divers to be able to play both well? Because you haven't
had enough practice time. I was listening to a guy talk about the New England Patriots, and I think it's the guy that does Monday night football, the black guy that does Monday night football. He said, the greatest asset that Belichick had at New England was it ain't that his players are so much smarter. It's just that from eight o'clock in the morning to five o'clock in the evening, you have like eighteen you watch film, then you go out in your way to do it. Yeah, you watch film,
then you go out in the ploy. Except he doesn't know what he's talking about because they have time limits on that stuff. Yeah, but but see what he was doing giving away secrets. And this is a funny thing about it. Some some coaches don't care about the fine, and he is one of those coaches. And I'm gonna tell you another coach that don't care about the fines. It's Pete Carroll. He does the same thing. Had him, had him walk throughs and practices he ain't supposed to,
but he's still having Then. I always talk about zoom. I mean, nothing stops you and your fellow defensive backs or linebackers a offensive lineman from getting on zoom and talking about what's what we need to do and then the different changes we need to make. To me, man, if you get you know, we got paid decent money when we played you, and we got paid a lot of money back then. People just be like if I made all the money Nate news. Come on, bro, we
played got paid great money. It wasn't millions. Okay, millions change the way you think me, But we should play one hundreds and hundred thousand year dollars the billiest change millions. Man. When you tell them, man, I make one million dollars, people think you rich. You know, they don't know that you're fit to pay, but like four hundred thousand dollars, you should. You should feel obligated. Okay, if I'm getting
paid this US money right now. This I told them about out off seasons right back in the day, we truly had off seasons. Yes, they don't do that now because everything is ramped up. So if everything's ramped up this show, so should your preparation. It's a good thing you guys are in charge, because the nfl PA you'd be knocking on your door right now, the very guys that helped you. Guys, we're gonna get it together, all right.

dot com. You don't have that, you don't have the shops zop dot pro shop, dot cop whatever. Nah Man I gave it up out the Tyson bit. The man here I'm like, I just gave it up. Man. I just love Tyson. Come on, they do, Neverson Walls, I Vicky spect All of this is mix shots on Dallas Cowboys dot Com, the funtwn RV tailgate here on the Tostita's Championship Plaza and what a wonderful Friday it is. And so if it's Friday, you know we need to get to our pick click and our picks for the game.
I know what your guys picks are, so we can probably bypass that unless you got a good score for us. But Nate, give me somebody that you think that this is the game that they're they're gonna They're gonna put their hand up in the air and say, hey, I'm here. That's right, baby, Who's gonna be that that Nate's gonna I think that's gonna be uh uh, the young guy our name from Utah. I mean, I think, giving enough reps, I think he's gonna raise his hand and say I'm here.
And I think it's gonna be the big guy, the big Hamilton seventy nine. Now, yeah, I think he'll raise his hand to say I'm here. I've been so how many how many snaps. Do you think Randy Gregory can get He only got six last week? Can he get that to thirty twenty? All I hope for Randy Gregory right now is that he suited up the rest of
the season and whatever he gives, he gives. But he has to be a guy that we can start to depend on and until we see him ramp up for the rest of this season and all of them next season. I would just take whatever he give him and just and just have him just stay stay, stay clear upstairs, as that's what I went for the most. A good Yeah, you know, it's how you tell most people that's great athletes. You know, you have a team for the great athletes. Man, if you just study and play as hard as you
can win in to take care of itself. And I think the same thing for Gregory. You think Aldon Smith's presence can help him out too? Yeah, Yeah, I think you band together in the right and positive way, you know. And uh, as long as you don't let them go off campus by themselves, and nobody should be going off campus. Yeah, I have a pick to click with the news going out and really having his first best preparation preparation time I think considering all of that, we're gonna get the
ball out fast. Anytime you're dealing with a young quarterback, you want to pick the receivers at the closest to you and pick the easiest targets. I'm looking at uh Dalton Scholtz to do well. I'm looking for him to be the main talk. Of course, CD is gonna have
to pull him out. So but then run situation. They're gonna be stacking the line, so we're gonna be running Zeke and we're gonna pull it out the quickest man, the most immediate person to look at his shots, all right, and i gotta give you a score two and I've got to get around it. Okay, we'll get around to score. So my pick to click, and I'm gonna turn back the clock to Thanksgiving of nineteen ninety four. Jason Garrett
had to start because they lost Rodney Pete. Yes, the backup Troy was out and Jason was going to start, and before the game, his wife Brill told him that, hey, all you gotta do is throw it up high and Elvin Harper will come down with right. Eddie did and Alvin har For did right. So my pick is going to be Michael Gallup because all you gotta do is throw it up high and he'll come down with it. And by the way, I wanted to point this out to you guys and did a little research last night.
Cowboys rookie quarterbacks making their first NFL start, only one of them in all the years actually started the game as a rookie, finished the game as a rookie, and won first start, first start. You want to guess m I wouldn't I probably nineteen sixty nine, Roger Starbuck started the season opener and led the Cowboys to a twenty four three victory over the Saint Louis Cardinals. Wow, all right, now there's alternating no that he started that game. I
guess Morton must have been hurt. Uh, and he started it was his only start of the season. Now there's a couple of asteris. There's there's a couple of asteris in this in this stat because I saw I went back and looked and somebody said, oh, Kevin Sweeney eighty seven, right, but it was a strike. It was a strike game, right, So I put an asterisk by that one, okay. Uh. In nineteen ninety three, Troy was hurt again, and Jason
Garrett started the game. He played two possessions, they were up three nothing, and then they brought in Bernie Kozar. So it's hard for me to say Jason won his first NFL start, right, so uh. And then in two thousand and four, Drew Henson started on Thanksgiving Day. They were kind of finally see what he was about. He played a half and Bill had seen enough. It completed like four of twelve or thirteen passes. You got intercepted for an interception, return for a touchdown, and Bill pulls them,
brings in Vinny Testaverdy and they won the game. But it's hard for me to say, Okay, he gets to wine and so so and all the other all the other rookie quarterbacks that started their first game. They lost me. You did a great job of them giving us the rules and the regulations, and you broke them all. You say, give us the quarterback who started fish leading the game, and you went all the way. I gave you the one that did. I just didn't want anybody to go,
oh no, wait. Kevin Sweeney in nineteen eighty seven, You know, this is the age of social media. Everybody wants to get something in man. So anyway, I've I've kind of documented that in my column for today on Dallas Cowboys dot Com, saying this is the second time only in the last five years that the or since two thousand and four, that the Cowboys started a rookie quarterback. Dak started And now pick click, my pick, the clicks gonna
be Michael Gallop. He's gonna throw it up high to Michael Gallips like that, right, And there's us on the big screen here. So do you uh got any prediction score over there, Nate Newton or just Cowboys win. I know what the Cowboys need to do to win, and that is, uh, they can't get wins to throw a couple of interceptions. He's been you know, at the beginning of the season, the first four or five games, he had like ten picks and so what eight picks and
but now he's got ten. Yeah, So if they can get him to put the ball on the ground, because he will move around and run and he will throw some some bad balls. He will throw something bad he throws, so many can get that with no turnovers on us none, what's up? We have a chance to win. And uh, so that's what I believe no score. Uh yeah, always Cowboys winning. Always. It sounds like me. I always think talking Cowboys gonna, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with U.
Of course Cowboys win, it's gonna be ugly. I told you if we're gonna win any any win that we have it throughout this the next this year is gonna be an ugly win. That's the only way we can. So I'm looking at Cowboys winning seventeen to fourteen, gonna hold them to fourteen points, hold them to fourteen. We're gonna get those picks. We're getting those picks, and we're
not scoring many points ourselves. I'd be very surprised if we did all right, And I vowed last week after picking them to beat Washington, then if I wasn't right that I will not pick them again until they win too straight, straight, too straight, Oh my god, which means again, I yeah, I've got the you know what, I've got the Eagles, but twenty one twenty and I think this is going to be closer than most folks think because just what you guys pointed out, they've turned the ball over.
Cowboys have sixteen turnovers to lead the league. Philadelphia has thirteen. They just have some takeaways that right exactly, so they'll they'll maybe give you the ball. The thing is they can't turn the ball over. And how about helping out the rookie quarterback. Don't ask him to score thirty points to win the game. Defense has got to step up and it'll be it'd be really nice, really nice if at one point the rookie quarterback gets the ball at the eagles thirty five yard line, right, give him a
short field. That would help out. And what everybody's talking about out Denucci, I'm talking about the offensive line and defense and if those two factors can come through, then he's got a chance. But if they don't hit everybody else, this is a week way. Zeke, sh it's gonna be tough. They're gonna stack it. I mean, I don't if you're a Philly, what are you doing? Run option? Snatch that thing out of Let that quarterback take as you know what. I don't think people know he can run. Oh we do.
Don't say it out loud. They already have seen the film like Jimmy did against Buffalo. They've seen as James Madison tape. Zeke was pretty funny. Did you hear what he said. Somebody asked him about things that Denucci did in college, and he goes, I don't even know where i'd go to find James Madison tape spoken like a p WI person. That's what's so. Anyway, as Bill Parcel said,
the quarterbacks not out there playing singles, right. This is a team deal, and so they need to do what they have to do to help the rookie quarterback in this situation who's coming in and playing his first NFL start without any preseason snaps. Basically a week's full of snaps with the offensive line at the first team offense. That's unbelievable, but welcome to We're about to see it. But as Denucci said, it's twenty twenty and that's it for mick shots. Nate Newton, thanks a lot for good
to have you here. Ever since you have a good weekend. I'm Mickey Spagnola, Chris, thanks for setting all this up. And Alex with the video and we'll be back and the wings Brad with the wings, but he left us. I think all right, We'll see Cowboys Eagles Sunday night. See you guys.
