I Texan is Michael Garfier Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining in the high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is here with a high Tech Texan items to make life easier, some new technology. So Michael Garfield has something you might want. Texans. Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texan. Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio Act. Now you're high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield. Well, Happy New Year, lishut up,
do vaugh however you want to say it. People, it is the very first episode of High Tech Texan Show of twenty twenty four. I'll tell you what happy New Year. New Year's starting off right, twenty twenty four. We're starting off right. My name is not on the Jeffrey Epstein list. But the bad news is I got a note from Epstein's mother. Please excuse me Gael for being a bit down in melancholy due to his Texas Longhorns not
making the National Championship game, signed Epstein's mother. Well, at least I got that going for me. People. We come to you from Houston, Texas, the site of the college football National Championship. It is this coming Monday night. I fully expected to be there on the sideline in the stands rooting for my Texas Longhorns, alas my team was one second away from getting in there. I was at the Sugar Bowl last week and it was it was magical. New Orleans such a fun town, it really really says,
especially when there's a big sporting event. And I want to talk about that about cities that were built for big sporting events. And don't hate me, h down there are better. There are better cities to host big sporting events in. And I've been to a lot of big sporting events. But if you are in town, if you're just driving around this massive, fourth largest city in the United States, it is a very very big city, relatively
easy to navigate. There's some concentric stir circles. There's the downtown Loop six ' ten. Then outside you've got something called the Sam Houston Tollway Beltway A. Then outside of that you've got something called the Grand Parkway. It's a it's a it's a big time. It's a fun town. Weather, it's decent here. You go play golf almost twelve months a year, So we
do welcome you here. Enjoy the barbecue and enjoy the tex mex. If you do need a suggestion, I've got about an hour and forty five minutes. I'm at seven one three, two one two five nine to five to ZHO. For those of you have never tuned in or just visiting, Michael is my name. You can call me Garf Garf. It's my nickname, Michael Garfield. I am known as the high tech Texan. The show generally kind of talks about technology, fun, tech analogy. I'm not going to
tell you how to fix your computer. It's really about the bs that I want to yap about. It's about pop culture, it's about consumer lifestyle. It's going to be a little about football. If you are a fan of Go Blue, Michigan, if you were a fan of the Huskies, Washington Purple my favorite color. I hope you have a fun time and it should be what I expect to be a very decent game. I'll give you my thoughts and I think my accurate prediction of who is going to win the Natty
coming up this Monday. In the meantime, other budsness we got to take
care of. I am out of here on Monday. I guess Texas losing made my travel plans a little bit easier because I am off to my twenty second I believe CEES, which used to be called the Consumer Electronics Show, I will be in Vegas most all of next week, where I once again will be coming to you live and plausibly live on my social media to give you the insides, the outsides, the do you need to know or do you really care about some of the hot new products in the world of technology
or the ancillary industries of what's coming in twenty twenty four. Yes, we do expect more TVs. We expect some I think that the biggest thing to me that's going to come out of here AI AI, artificial intelligence, AI everything. It's one of the things that I expect. After the break here, as soon as we finished setting up the show, I will come back with some of the things that I do expect and all of the emails. One of the fun thing, interesting things and actually things that it's really tough
because it bugs the hell out of me every year. So I have a media pass. And for those of you don't know what CEES is. CES is an industry trade show and is put on by the Consumer Technology Association. They own and produce the Big trade Show. They expect one hundred and thirty thousand attendees and more than four thousand exhibitors, bigger than last year. Last year they had about one hundred and fifteen thousand attendees thirty two hundred plus exhibitors.
That is, those numbers, as big as they are, they are below pre pandemic levels. I remember the number going up to about one hundred and eighty thousand, Very very big, and there's going to be a lot of walking. It is at every ounce of convention convention center space, not only the North, the Central, the West convention Center in Vegas. It is going to be at the Venetian Expo, It's going to be at hotels. There's a lot of other events, a lot of other parties, a
lot of other press conferences. I mean, getting back back to it one of the things that I it kind of bugs me because I don't have really time because starting in mid December, as media, you cannot go to this as the public. The public is not invited. Industry only and the medium. So if you own a if you work at best Buy, if you're a buyer, if you're a manufacturer for your seller. Yes you can go and they do. And I got to give a shout out to the CTA
Consumer Technology Association and there are pr folks. They do a great job of working with the media every year and again this coming year. I am going to have a radio booth built specifically for me right on the show floor, so I can do a lot of the interviews, a lot of the videos, put stuff on my social there. They really do make our jobs a lot easier so we can cover and we can tell you the public, you
know, what's all that's going on. And as a media member, as I signed up, my email goes out to the four thousand plus exhibitors, which includes press releases, which includes please stop by my booth. Stop by my booth because we're going to have a cocktail. They lure us with food and drink. They lureus with hey, you know, you can get a sample of this headphone or this headset. And so I have in my folder, in my inbox folder, because I have to, I push everything to
my CES twenty twenty four folder. I have easily over three hundred different emails about it. Come see this thing, come see that thing. And then when I get there, I probably forget all those emails because I'm like a freaking squirrel's like, oh there's something shiny over there. Look at that. Look at this. This, This looks neat. So I'm gonna be pulled torn in so many different directions. But I work for you. I do work for you people, and it's very nice. But there are a lot
of things to expect. There's gonna be cars. This is kind of a default auto show. So many manufacturers are there, and they have massive booths the size of city blocks, and they're gonna show off their new evs. They're gonna show off the new tech that's you know where it's you know, you can get AI assisted driving. And I mean there's gonna be drones. There's gonna be it's just everything goes. It's it boggles the mind. And I am jaded, and you should be happy. I am jaded that I
just don't go Google Gaga over look at this, Look at this. Look at this. Kind of like when the first high definition TVs came out back in two thousand and one, two thousand and two, two thousand and three. There are more. I walked up and down aisles at the Vegas Convention Center. Way back then. It was one of my first CES shows, and I really thought I was gonna get sunburn from all of the glare and the shine and the bright lights coming off of every single high definition TV.
Yes, there's gonna be new TVs, New monitors are coming out that are gonna be bigger, faster refresh rates. And I guess we'll end it with this end of the segment. Do you need any of this stuff? Do you need any of this stuff? And my answer is this because I'll get answer because I'm providing a lot of commentary to my TV and radio stations across the country next week. From there, The answer is there is a big difference. And I tell this to my kids, and if you're a parent,
I hope you take the same advice. Tell these people there's a difference between needing and wanting. We're gonna want a good amount of things that will be annolystiir released next week. Do we need them? Ah? A, maybe be not all right. We're gonna discuss all that stuff, including some new technology to help you stick to your New Year's resolution. I'd love to hear what some of you resolved to do in twenty twenty four. In the meantime, I'm gonna resolve to take a break so we could pay some of
the bills. This show always free thanks to some of our wonderful, wonderful partners who advertise right about now, Michael is a dame. As you just throw that what it is called the High Tech Texan Show. Do not turn this off, don't. We're not talking all about tech. We're talking about football. We're talking about the Washington Huskies, the Michigan Wolverines. Got a wolverine in, a husky wolverine and a husky man. It's just it's gonna
be a dogfight. You see what I did there. By the way, if a little trivia for you, because this is what I do, kind of a football and you know pretty much certainly trivia expert and a buff all
this other's things. If Washington wins, this will be the first time since two thousand and seven that the champion college in Division one basketball and the FBS and football will have the same mascott Washington Huskies Huskies the University of Connecticut Yukon Huskies, which, by the way, they won that title in the same venue that the game is being played at Monday night. Both titles will come in n RG Stadium here in Htown. Anything else I could do for you,
anything else? If you want to to talk to me, tell me your New Year's resolutions? Have you already broken them less than a weekend? Seven? One three, two, one two five nine five. Oh, Callum, good to see a happy New year. Callum and I have worked the other for several years, still nursing the hangover. Brother. You see you see the Longhorn game? Did you see me on the sign line?
No, you should have followed social media. It's down on the side side at immedia credential because I do cover the sports world for other other outlets that actually would approve me of a media credential. Matthew McConaughey. I wore a Matthew Did you see the photo of Matthew cocnaughy. I have almost I have almost the same leather sport coach jacket. I love this. I've had it
for years. I busted out out very rarely, but I wore it on the sidelines, knowing he'd be there and meet be Twinkies kind of gave me a thumbs up because you know, he talked about Salesforce and all this AI stuff. You know, because you know we're tight. We're both both graduated from the greatest college in the world. He's got a one of us has an oscar, one of us has run ten marathons, and so you know, we a little differentiating brothers from another. Mother if you actually will,
Governor Abbott was there, Vince yoxel v Y stand next to him. Kitty Maine, former ESPN We talked for really funny guy. I love. Kenny Maye talked to him three four, five minutes beforehand. It's kind of fun being on the sidelines to get to that perspective. And then the worst part is you have to go sit up in the rafters of the super Dome to watch the actual game. Ed. You can't cheer in a press box. There is no cheering in a press box. You will get kicked out.
I'm used to it now because I've done this for years. But it's just man. Sometimes times I meant it's especially when you have so much investigats. It is one of your teams, and a lot of the reporters in the people covering the game, they do cover the team on a regular basis, so they have a rooting interest. I mean, it's let's talk about the sugar ball. They had people from Washington, the reporters, they Texas Longhorn
reporters from each of the individual cities and newspapers with everything. Of course, they want their team to win, but we have a job to do. People. We are journalists. Well I'm I'm kind of an entertainalist. And so I was there and at least we hit there's something called Bourbon Street to draw in your sorrows, at least for Texas Longhorn fans, which, by the way, there were so many Longhorn fans in New Orleans New Year's Eve,
New Year's Day for the game. It was a Texas takeover. My just anecdotal looking at the crowd colors, it was easily seventy five percent eighty percent Texas Longhorn fans. I actually thought I was going to be more, but Washington and Huskies, you guys traveled, you know, well pretty well, pretty well. But there was so many Texas fans and it was ye Pado pad O'Brien's. I went to I went to the pregame. There I met a lot of my fraternity brothers ex fraternity brothers and some just it was
just crazy, man. And the coolest part is, OK, I will maybe I'll get back the regular program here, seck. I got to you know, like these inside stories. Pad O'Brien's very special to me. I was. I was in a fraternity at the University of Texas that literally every November recreates the famous Paddo O'Brien's New Orleans outdoor patio and bar. We literally build a replica of it. And if you know it, fraterny I'm talking about, Yes, that was me my fraternity. My son was in that
fraternity, My dad, my grandfather was that fraternity. So pad O'Brien's very special to me. So all of us in the same fraternity, we're all out there were drinking hurricanes. Hurricanes is the famous should I say infamous drink that a pot O'Brien serves. It is a rum based it's red, your tongue in mouth turned red. And if you have too much, when things come up, they're red also. And I see a lot of buddies.
It's crowded by the outdoor fountains. I see this guy wearing a sport coat odd number one at a bar on Bourbon Street and he's got this star, a Texas Star lapel pen, very large lapel pins. It wasn't a short sheriff looking thing, really, and I'm like, that's odd. And then I'm looking a few more seconds and I'm like, that looks like somebody's security. And I bet I noticed who it was. I look over ten twenty feet away. Sure enough, it was the president of the unionized the University
of Texas, Jay Hartzel. Great dude, he has what he has done in his tenure as the president of the University of Texas system over the past four or five six years. And he's a relatively young guys, probably young fifties. And sure enough, there he was. I look at him. He's talking to one of my pledge by, one of my pledge for Tonado Brothers. Well, I'm not shy. I go wat up to him. I said, Jay, And he's met me one or two times before, but he's so good with names. And obviously I had a media badge on
it showed my name, Michael. What's going on? How you doing? Kid? You not he is holding a hurricane. I'm holding a hurricane. I am talking to the president of ut UT we're just chatting away and we're just slamming hurricanes. That was the security guard right there, just a friendly friendly I'll get out god. I like just it was so nice. Talked about football, graduation rate, the endowment and how come not I'm not on the ute border regions. It was just a really, really neat conversation.
So now there is that. I did tell him I was a radio teleision film major from Moody College of Communications. He liked that. He congratulated me on doing something in the field of study that I actually graduated from, obviously radio TV. And of course I made film actor, just like Matthew McConaughey. So we yeah, yapped about that. But he's a good dude. And he went on and he was on the field beforehand, and we lost the game. And there's where we are. Where am I tell them?
Get me back on track over here? You want to go to Vegas with me next week? Calm I've I need a producer to come to Vegas, because what I do when I do the show, I'm going to pre record some of this stuff and then will air it next week. It's part of one show. But I need somebody to help me out calum but where your walking shoes, where you're running shoes over under the number of steps per day
easily twenty thousand, not even not even in a question. I always take a snapshot of how many steps I walk per day, and generally he's been over twenty thousand today. Because there's so much to see over there, things that I expect, things that I expect at CEES twenty twenty four, AI everywhere announcements and everything. You know, every year, I say, oh, you know this is good. Something's going to just change us. You know, last year, I think we saw a focus on accessibility. You
know, it's maybe some health stuff, and there's going to bed. There's gonna be a really good amount of devices designed to help with hearing impairments and mobility restrictions again this year. But there's gonna be new trends. Some of the trends that I think I'm seeing based on some of the press releases and pre announcements. I think CEES twenty twenty four gonna be full of clean energy technology, but they're going to package it in the form of consumer hardware.
Solar panels for example, I mean solar panels. They've traditionally been the you know, with professional people, professional contractors, you know, but standalone setups they're gaining in popularity. Pop up panels, foldable panels, maybe some inverters,
some batteries that maybe look like air conditioning units. It used to be kind of a niche audience, but there are people now looking to get off the electricity grid and the cost of energy in certain places inside and outside the US, they've spike dramatically, and here in Texas we have seen our power grid fail or at least come very close to failing, with devastating consequences. I think the clean energy technology, maybe the solar world, it's going to
be a very big market in the next few years. I think Wi Fi Wi Fi not sexy. Wi Fi is not the most exciting or new development, but I think I'm expecting to see a number of new devices with support for the new Wi Fi seven, laptops, TVs, everything in between. It's still a work in progress, but Wi Fi seven, the speck itself, they're gonna finalize this spec you know, the specs if you will,
probably in a month or two or three. But gadget makers they're going to be ready to jump I'm gonna see the words Wi Fi seven out there, higher faster transferred speeds, multi link operations, which means it's going to allow a Wi Fi seven device to use not one, but two bands at the same time, really essentially turning a single wireless connection kind of into a two
lane highway. So for people with bigger homes, this should have improved the performance of mesh networks by letting the devices switch bands without losing speeds or connections. So that's so, that's one of the other things they say, I'll continue with this what I expect to see as we take a break, you let me know. Have you been seeing some headlines that you want me to
go check out something, get a little sneak inside preview for you. Of course I'm happy to do it. Michael Garfield, It's The High Tech Texan Show. Seven one three two point two five nine five ozos bottom of hour number one of a one hour and forty five minute show today, the high Tech Texting Show. You see it here at KPRC nine to fifty am, where we terrestrially broadcast and actually stream on iHeartRadio. We are broadcasting a University
of Houston Cougar basketball game. Yes, football season is still here, but basketball season is ramping up. Your undefeated Houston Cougar's. They will be on at twelve forty five Central Time time, which means that cuts fifteen minutes off my show. Okay, I'm not going to put up a fit. That's it's a give and takes situation over here with the big boys, and so you got better hurry up. Just over an hour to listen to this show.
Seven one three two one two five nine five. We welcome a lot of new people who are in town, be it Michigan fans or Washington Husky fans, a lot of places to eat, best to just got a phone call over here, callum and said, somebody is from the Midwest. I obviously is probably made a Michigan fan. I'm guessing best tex mex And where should I go for barbecue? People, I just told you I only have
an hour and like five minutes to do this show. You think I'm going to tell you the one place to eat the best barbecue, or the one place to beat the text mes? People, this is freaking age town. This is this is Texas. There's more than just one place to eat great text mes in great barbecue, and there's there's great Asian food here, there's there's look everything. It's very electic, eclectic city, a lot of good
cocktails. Calum, what do you think if you tell if you had to recommend one or two barbecue text make places, what do you tell the people over here? Uh, the Papa's chain is good. Uh, Papa's barbecue, but Papa sit does man great Memphis, Memphis is. Memphis is good. It's not what it used to be from when Nympho was actually living around. L Tempo always a fae. I go L Tempo and I go Papasitos. But stand by people, Uh, this stuff ain't cheap. This is
not your taco bell. L Tempo Papasitos. They're both text mes phenomenal. Many locations around the city. They're very proud of their prices. I will say that, but but it's worth it. In many cases. We've got barbecue. Man, I don't even get into the barbecue. Just just I mean, just there's barbecue. Just I don't know. Just Yahoo google the thing. Because again I to talk about what I'm supposed to talk. I do. Lend me some food. Oh, by the way, I'll get
segue. I'm a professional here talking about CES Consumer Electronics Show, which I will be at all next week, and so I do hope you follow me if you really want to see some really cool stuff. If you don't already, follow me on social media high Tech Texan HI gh TE C h T e x A N spell the whole thing out, follow it certainly on Instagram.
I will be shooting video, posting some stand ups, a lot of things so you could see all the cool gadgets and all the fun stuff going on of what to expect in terms of products and services in twenty twenty four before anybody else shows them. I am your insight info. One of the things I am very interested to check out. Speaking of barbecue, here comes to the segue. There is going to be is it ge ge They bring good things to life ge Profile, which is the division that has all their
kitchen gadgets or cooking gadgets. They are introducing a very first of its kind indoor countertop meat smoker or a smoker. Let's just put it that way. It's a counter top cooker where you put I believe wood pellets in there and you can do this inside and it's not going to set your smoke alarm off. Ge Profile. It's a smart indoor smoker. Let me see over air, No significant amount of smoke escapes the chamber of ge Profile's new appliance.
It's sized enough to sit on your countertop. Wood pellets smoke is filtered through an advanced catalyst converter, allowing heat and smoke flavored hot air to cook and add flavor to the food inside. There are no filters to clean or a
place. Huh over under how much this thing's gonna cost? Anyway? It's fueled by little wood pellets kind of I guess like Tregger, pumps altered smoke into a tightly sealed chamber, cooks the food, puts smoky flavor to meats, the vegetables, the fishes, and whatever else you can put in there. And I would put an old fashion drake. I love smoked old fashions. Five adjustable smoke levels. That's pretty cool for a pitmaster man playing around.
There's a smart app recipes, control it, monitor it remotely. They're going to be on sale at best Buy, Williams, Sonoma, and select national retailers, Folks Retailing and he guesses and he guesses three two one. It's yours for a clean one girl, one thousand dollars. So I really hope to do well at the craps table next week in Vegas so I can afford one of these things. Indoor smoker. That's one of the things. I'm going to see a lot of kitchen appliances. Anybody think about what's in
your kitchen. We have a microwave, we're refrigerator, we have a stove, we have an oven, anything else. I actually have a robotic bartender. Seen these things bar siss or bartsia. I have one from Black and Decker. Actually is it is a electronic bar system. You hook up six different bottles of liquor. So you put a tequila, you put a bourbon, of vodka, gin rum, and they come with little cartridges like carrig
they're carrig like cartridges. You put it in there. There's a bar code on each of the car So, say you want to make an old fashion maybe you want to make a margarita, maybe you want to make a Long Island iced tea. You buy these pre mix and they're very concentrated, non alcoholic in many cases, little Carrig like devices. You put it into this
robotic bar tinder. It reads the bar code, it says, okay, I need a Long Island iced t which is like a combination of every liquor known to man, and it squirts the concentrated juice into a glass that you put under there, and then it's draw. It sucks up some rum, it sucks up some vocke, it sucks up some burb and it sucks up everything in there, and it puts it in there. It's pretty cool. The ROI is not there because number one, I like making drinks myself,
because I find myself to be a decent bartender. The machines cost anywhere around two hundred to three hundred and three hundred fifty dollars. But the expense is you got to buy these little carried little devices, and each of these things are probably hell what five to ten to fifty maybe up to twelve dollars a pop. Well, at that point, then you put liquor in there and you might as well go to a New York bar or something like that.
I just I like the concept. It's fund this is fully explained. Cees what a cool device. People come over to the crib, I think it lights up. They see all the licker bottles. Oh, it's a party in a box garf. What's going on here? Well, you could push this button and you can make your own cocktail, and then they proceed to take my expensive cocktail thing and make their own drink. And it's tasty. It's pretty tasty. But do I need it? Do I need versus one?
That's how I led this show. I it's it's it's very expensive to make these things where you can easily make some and taste sometimes it taste a lot better and a lot more inexpensive then using something like this. That is what csays, Hey, this is cool? Is that going to change your life? So I want to go spend one hundred thousand dollars in this big TV this self driving a car? Uh maybe not. That's where I come in. That's where I say, is this good or bad? So that's
some of the things that I'm going to say. Phone number here seven one, three, two, one two five nine five. Oh saw a few phone calls they're holding. I also could see some of the topics you guys want. It just kind of speeds things up if I just don't pick up the phone, but sometimes I will when callum tells me there's a chick on length line two. She's got a sexy voice, sounds like to me more or something like that. That's when I actually may actually pick up a phone.
So I do look forward to the cees, the indoor smoker from ge. What else do I expect to see here? I told you about Wi fi is going to be everywhere. I think that in terms of PCs, does does anybody care about PCs anymore? Computers? I think a big buzzy term we're really going to hear this year is ai PC, the AI PC, the artificial intelligence personal computer ai PC. It's a phrase that Intel and A M D, two big chip makers, they're using to describe computers equipped
with chips featuring these neural processing units. It's similar to the way that you know, graphic processing units speed up graphics processing for gaming. This neural processing unit kind of offloads artificial intelligent task to handle them more efficiently. So I we're going to see a lot of this stuff. But does I don't know? I mean, listen, PCs, desktops, desktop, PCs, laptops, they were everywhere. HP Dell they had massive booths at CS twenty years
ago, and they don't have massive booths anymore. Microsoft used to have a massive I don't even think Microsoft has a booth there anymore. Microsoft's gonna be out there in some way, shape or form, but they don't have a massive booth out there anymore. Truly wireless TV. Last year I saw some quote unquote truly wireless TV. You can mount these anywhere. You could suction cup these things to a window. They're gonna be around this year. There's
a company called Displaced ds P Lace Displays. They're coming out with two sizes of TVs, a twenty seven and a fifty five inch TV, and they're gonna be truly wireless. They're gonna have batteries installed in them, so they're gonna have you don't even need a plug them in battery life the last a month. If you watch six hours of content per day according to the company, well it's gonna last me about three days the entire month. No pricing
so far. There will be some laptops and Microsoft they just announced something very interesting that I'll tell you here after the break that they're gonna have. So Microsoft is gonna have a present. Microsoft is doing something new for the first time in three decades. Microsoft is doing something new that's transforming a piece of hardware that we all use every single day that it's going to add this year. I'll tell you what that is. On the other side on the High
Tech Texan Show. How's your New Year's resolutions? People? Anything good other than losing weight, making more money, trying to get healthier longhorns, winning the Natty. Some of them will not come true. I will tell you that right now, and I hope you stick with him. I hope it's that. Michael is the name Michael Garfield. There is Callum Reed. He's on the other side of the glass over there is pushing the buttons as her
phone calls of the High Tech Texan Show. I don't know. About eight or nine minutes before we hit the top of the hour, we welcome new listeners who are driving around and navigating this massive city who are either Michigan or Washington Husky fans. Gona be a good game? Should Calum should? I tell him my prediction right now? I don't know. I do not personally think I know anybody who graduated from U dub do. I do not. I love the state of Washington. I almost moved up there from Microsoft years
and years ago. I know a number of people who graduated from UM Michigan tough to handle people, but then again, so were everybody from Alabama, and arguably people would say, you're from the Texas Longhorns. Hi, how you doing? I study? I follow all sports, all football, NFL college I correctly predicted the outcome, sadly of the Sugar Bowl. If I was a betting man, I absolutely and I just say this is absolutely noted document. I totally would have taken Washington plus four and the over, hoping
that Texas would win. But I would take Washington plus fware and that absolutely came true. I my prediction Washington Huskies will beat Michigan solely based on the play of Michael PENNOCKX junior dude saw him in person last week at Sugar Bowl. Heisman runner up my butt. He should have won the Heisman. Left handed quarterback doesn't run much, not a scrambler, not a Michael Vick type,
maybe more of a Tua Woo. That boy good. He should get pretty high the draft this coming year based on that they are on a twenty one game win streak, longest in college football right now, and I don't know. It's just something setting up for them. It's just a Questionally, it could be Jim Harbaugh's last game at University of Michigan, Bill Belichick's last game for the Patriots in the NFL this weekend, so a lot of things are going on. There is your sports update brought to you. You buy
US Coins and Jewelry. Hey, if you're in town and you actually want a Rolex, this is the place to go. Look on your map people and type in US Coins and Jewelry. It is just outside Loop six' ten, not far from the Galleria Vos Voss and Katie Freeway. They're open on Saturdays. They will be open on Monday too, so you can pregame wonderful Rolex women's jewelry, tennis bracelets. But also, like the name says,
US coins and jewelry, they have coins. If you happen to have tons of coins that you collect, you want a fair price if you want to sell them, you want to buy some coins. Absolutely, trust these guys one of the best in the country. It is massive. They have tons of security. They have individual little cubicles where one on one you can get a quote. You can sell some things. They have gold, they
have silver, they have trading cards. Let's just go hang around on it, go hang on us Coinsanjewelry dot Com family owned for what at least thirty years. I want you to tell Kenny or math Kenny or Matt duncan tell him what's up. Michael Garfield said, what are people? The high tech textan says, this is where I get all my stuff too, I really really do it. Just it's good, folks, and thank you for having them bring us all the sports actions sports information over here where the Washington Huskies
my guests will win. The Natty played not too far from here at NRG Stadium. This is coming on Monday night. Microsoft tease this too. Microsoft is ruling out something that has not been changed in over thirty years. It is something that we all use every single day in one in one former shape, coming soon to a Windows eleven PC near you. Microsoft is coming out with a new keyboard key You know we all use keyboards. Look at your laptop, look at your desktop asdf gh JKL. You know the home button,
there's a control button, there's a function button. If you're a Windows person, there's a little button that looks like Windows You push the Windows button. It open some Windows. Microsoft is adding the first significant change to the Windows PC keyboard in nearly three decades. They're launching it next week. They already announced it, but at CES twenty twenty four they're launching a Copilot AI button. Of course, there's gonna be an artificial intelligence button. They're gonna
put it right next to the alt key of the space bar. I believe Copilot is the name. See. Microsoft has been pushing AI over the past year, and they are saying that this Copilot key is another transformative moment in our journey with Windows or Copilot will be entry point into the world of AI on the PC unquote. That's for Microsoft. Okay, I'm gonna go with
that. Whatever they say. New PC is coming out the spring. Microsoft at a keyboard and I'll have more information about this when I see it and play with it next week at CES and probably the surface Microsoft Surface devices. I think symbolically the key is just another sign of the Microsoft thinks of co pilot. That's a product that they have. It's just an essential element of
Windows future. Remember the start menu. Remember the start button was so big with was that Windows ninety five or something like that so big when they launched it, they licensed start me Up by the Rolling Stones. Remember that ad campaign. Start menu is everything to the company, and they're really trying to make this co pilot a very, very large part of where it's going on.
So anyway, there is your new Microsoft News. Elon Musk, by the way, a Texas resident where his company and several companies are based here right in the great state of Texas, including Tesla just outside of Austin, Texas, where the University of Texas is based. Who is not playing in the then national championship This coming Monday, Elton did a relatively pretty cool thing his company SpaceX. That it's his satellite rocket company thingy thing. They actually
launch rockets from the state of Texas a few hours from here. SpaceX. Just a few days ago they launched I do like this. This is pretty cool whether you think of Musk, let's just go with the company space X. They launched a direct to smartphone satellite, several satellites low orbiting satellites. They launched six Starlink satellites designed to provide lt mobile phones with network signals even when you're out in the boonies. Satellite service but directly to your phone.
It's called the direct to Sell CEL satellites. So it's like a cell phone tower in space. I'm gonna break it. This is what I break things down. It's a cell phone tower in space, and it's meant to plug connectivity holes in remote areas where it's generally impossible right now to get a single bar on your phone. So they're going to provide satellite coverage and partnership with
Team Mobile in the US and six other carriers around the world. Now, initially when they like this thing up, it's going to be texting at first, but then voice and data are going to follow in the coming years. This is from T Mobile. There are other companies competing in this extraterrestrial cell service too, AT and T Texas Space Company based in Dallas. By the way, they completed the first voice call on a regular phone using the satellite
connection last year. Amazon says it's going to begin beta testing its own satellite service, So the next space race is going to be about connectivity. Tell you what much more coming up at least forty five more minutes. If you hang on hour number two of the High Tech text in Show, don't go anywhere. We are officially over halfway through this episode of the High Tech Texting
Show. Because it's a little short and a little short version today, we'll be here for about forty forty five more minutes because we are going to make way for the University of Houston Cougars to play right here on our station, KPRC nine fifty a m. And also on the stream. Should you be listening to me on iHeartRadio, Michael Garfield is name. We're over halfway. Generally we call this halfway to happy hour. Drink him if you want them.
Halfway to happy hour, brought to you by Papa's Plar Rum papas peeler Man. I'm telling you what, if you've got a resolution and you you're really just not a rum person, why don't you resolve to at least try it? And there's one rum to try, Papa's PLR. Papa as an Ernest Hemingway. It is actually a Ernest Hemingway, his the Hemingways founded Hemingway family. It is their rum. It is made in key Way, Florida, and there's at least four beautiful different veri ho tels. And we don't
call it a light rum or a white rum. It's a blonde rum and that is some good stuff. Maybe you want to mix it with something you get up to, some dark cask strength, maybe some that has been finished in a cheery casks. That's the stuff you want to sip. And they're available today Saturday. If you're listening live at almost any liquor store. We have liquor stores for those of you out of town visiting for the Natty Specs, Goody Goody, Total Wine, Ralston, some of the smaller package stores.
Go check it out. It is Papa's PLR. I know specifically if you want to hop over to the Capitol Grill in the Galleria area just outside the Galleria Steve jos my man, he stocks a bottle there. But as for Papa's PLR, you will thank me and then you will go stock it up. It's love it and if you're a Key West actually go check that out. Big shout out to the people who are visiting this week right now listening who are rooting for Michigan or Washington in the National Championship. That is
a game that my Texas Longhorns will not be participating in. Big Game in NRG Stadium. The National Champion will be crowned, just like it was in basketball last April at the exact same venue. How about that hetown he Town,
Houston, Texas seven one, three, two nine five. Oh for those of you actually visiting from out of toown right now who are listening, driving around looking for things to do, where to go, where to eat, and you've been to other big sporting events super Bowl, Natty March Madness, something like that, how does Houston rank in cities other cities? Now? I live here in Age Down. I have lived here for thirty years. Okay, so I'm supposed to be the h town pimp. Hey did
the convention visit? They do not pay me. And the reason they don't pay me because I'm more than happy to. If this city needs ragged on, I'm gonna rag on him too. I have been to other cities that are a little bit more convenient to get around in an essential business district, if you will, where you don't really have to drive around to have just a blast when it comes to actually watching the sporting event, namely, I
was there last week in New Orleans. New Orleans has said blast because the Superdome is massive, it is the most cavernous indoor stadium I have seen puts the Astrodome into shame. Yes, I'm embarrassed to say the Astrodome here in Houston is still standing up. Don't even get me started. Superdome is phenomenal, great place to watch it. Walking distance back to the French quarter, back to your hotels, by the casino, up and down Canal Street,
walkable, walkable, walkle. Indianapolis hosted a Super Bowl Final four or so. Downtown walkable, fun, Lucas oil Field Stadium, cool stuff, very simple to get around too. You got a city like Houston. You got a city like Arlington, man which is which is a much better stateum than NRG. Not much around there in the actual stadium. You got Miami. A lot of games are played in Miami Hard Rock Stadium. It's that that n an Miami Beach. People. You gotta drive, You gotta drive somewhere.
And I say this is just because map some things out. You're gonna say, oh my goodness, this is a big city. May be inconvenient because I just would walk to a bar right after the game to celebrate or drown my sorrows. Not gonna be able to do that. Really too much at NRG Stadium. But we do welcome and we do thank you for paying your tax for helping with the taxes. Everything you're eating in, all the hotel rooms, and all the other rental cars that you're doing, you're gonna
love in RG Stadium. I think it's very loud, very vertically built. Because the ice or astrodome is literally sitting next to her. That is that thinks is listen. That thing has got to go. Do not call into me and say, what's with your city? We've got it dilapidated, fifty nine years old this year. It's the fifty nine years old stadium that has not been an operation in over a decade, that nobody can get in because
there's rats. But no, no, no, this city still doesn't want to blow it up because it's sentimental because so many championships of the oilers not were won there. Oh good gracious, all right, I continue. What are we talking about here? Technology? My friends? Next week I will be in Las Vegas. There's a fun city super Bowl will be held in Las Vegas this year, just over a month from right now. The I would not say Allegiance Stadium is walkable to the strip just because it's on the
other side of the freeway. I would recommend it, but everything is going to be within one square one to one and a half two miles square radius of that stadium in the Las Vegas. That place is going to be crazy. And I will be in Las Vegas for that maybe my Dallas Cowboys, which I have to turn to NFL after the college football game is over. So I will be in Vegas next week for Consumer Electronic Show, which is
called CEES. Last hour, I ran through some of the new technology, the new things that I expect to be announced or whatever what of which, Actually here's something that is going to be announced. I have rumors it's not Apple, but it's Samsung. Samsung will have a presence at CEES. I'm actually going to a media event at the Sphere. You know you're a big company when you went out the brand new Sphere in Las Vegas, and I
can't wait to go check that out. I will see some of the new and I'm under embargo the new things that Samsung is releasing, releasing and announcing, including their new phones. They're getting ready to come out with their Galaxy S twenty four Series S twenty four, S twenty four plus S twenty four Ultra. That's probably the only thing I can say that as still under embargo, but it's out in mainstream media there. They are going to announce it
some of the things that I expect. It's Galaxy AI shocking two letters that are going to be omnipresent next week at ces AI. I don't know exactly what that means. I will tell you when I get back next week, but it is a comprehensive mobile AI experience and a universal intelligence on your phone, unquote from Samsung. Maybe it's going to help with productivity and creativity. I do not know. Galaxy AI, it's going to up here and a
lot of future phones that Samsung is coming out. AI actually is not new to Samsung phones. AI has powered a lot of smartphone features for years, voice assistants, language translations, apps, photography. So I don't know. I hope it actually is something sexy, something we need. But AI is going to be the two letters that are going to be coming out of CEES. Maybe an AI centric processor for the Galaxy S twenty fours, I do not know, but I will have some of the first ones to tell you
what the play by play looks like. We're gonna take a break. Coming up. We got about thirty more minutes here. If you want to say hi, ask questions, tell me what to go check out at CEES. Give me your predictions for the National Championship that's coming Monday. I'm at seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh. We welcome take to h down and we welcome you to twenty twenty four. Michael Garfield is the name that is right. We are continuing the fun show good afternoon or good
late night after midnight right now. If you're listening to the repeat encore performance of this wonderful program, it's called The High Tech Textan Show. I am Michael Michael Garfield. You can find me high Tech Textan dot com. Can spell that whole thing out hi, g H T C H. You know, also on social media, I lot of people very proud of my Instagram
high Tech Textan. But if I see a lot of people logging on and actually following me today knowing that I'm going to have some inside, super sexy, behind the scenes stuff from CEES next week in Las Vegas, I'd been kind of going over some of the things that I expect and some of the things that you're going to go, oh, that's pretty cool, and the hell if I'm paying that much money for it, which I think is really what CES is all about. The twenty plus years I have been going here,
what a go old school? I don't. I'm kind of an og guy. You remember Tetris. We used to play Tetris, Calum, you weren't even born when Tetris. I remember playing Tetris in when was I living. Let's see, Tetris was on a Nintendo handheld game, the Nintendo Game Boy. I remember had a little cartage for Tetris Night. I'm not kidding. It was nineteen ninety nineteen ninety one, nineteen ninety two. That is how you, Calum. You weren't even around, Calum. He's behind the
class over here on the other side. Could you ever win the game? It was all about points because at some point you got these falling shapes that you've got to quickly turn and twist. It was some Russian guy I vented it or something. I don't think there was an end game, like I remember saving the Princess in level eight of the first Super Mario game or Mario Brothers. I actually got and I saved the Princess from the Big Bowser Dragon. Guy, I actually did that Tetris. I just it's just he who
could do get those points. Old school video game forty years ago, folks, a thirteen year old kid from Oklahoma just pulled off a new trick. He became the first player to actually beat the game. Beat the game, he won it. This kid's manipulated waves of falling shapes for more than thirty eight minutes until the game crashed and it reached something called the kill screen or something never been done by a human before. I did not even think it
was even possible, didn't even think it possible. It actually Tetris. It was a video game. I think it was a PC game, but then like around eighty nine or ninety it was on the NES Nintendo Entertainment System but also on the Nintendo Game Boy. Man, that was addictive. I'm not addicted to anything. I do not, believe it or not. I have a type a personality. I do not have an addicted to personality. I am not addicted to any I'm addicted to love me and Robert Palmer. I'm
not addicted anything. I may have been addicted to Tetris for a few months right there. I mean, I remember bringing this thing to work. I just entered the workforce, and I think I would go to lunch. I would sit in my car and actually play this game. I'm such a loser. I don't know how this Oklahoma kid did this, something about new types of way that he hits buttons called hyper tapping. But did he this kid?
Even was it a contest? What does it win? Other than the fact that I'm talking about him here on my radio show, nothing congratulates, is anybody ever actually? Well? Other than sports, you know that there's an in game. If you play mad, you have four quarters, maybe having an overtime, you win a game. Can you can you win Frogger? Like I used to have a Gala Guy. I had to stand up real machines. I had misspacked Man in Gallica and you get to levels.
I mean I think I got to level twenty two or something like that on Tech on Galla Guy, I love it. The little space Guy's coming to I don't think you can win the game. The only thing that you you The end game for us was getting our three initials on that top score. I wanted to put htt high tech text. I wanted to put it up there. This kid there's something that has never been done in forty years that people thought was possible. And he actually got mentioned on the High Tech Text
and soci Show. Congratulations. What's this kid's name? Let me give him just in case he's listening right now on He's thirteen. In case listening right now on iHeartRadio, Willis Gibson, Stillwater, Oklahoma. E' up Willis. But you talk about Willis? You actually won Tetris thirteen years old. I hope my three kids who are in their twenties listening right now. What have you done? Boys? This kid's thirteen. You actually beat freaking Tetris.
So much for that. Two one two nine five up. New Year's resolution. Actually, my New year's resolution is to beat Tetris now, so thanks to that. There Actually there's some technology now that actually can help help you stick to your new year's resolutions. Would you like that? What did you? What was your new Okay? You want to get more physically in shape, you want to start running, you want to lose weight, Well,
there are fitness trackers, watches. Yeah, I mean you got all your fitbits, You've got your your Apple watches, You've got your Samsung Galaxy where But if you're attempting to turn over this new healthier leaf, so many people are with you. There's fitness trackers and they're all their apps something you could do. They're relatively affordable. You can get about one hundred dollars or so. I mean you track your steps, your calories, your heart rate,
your sleep. Okay, that's pretty cool too. There's workout classes that you can do online. I mean, if you, uh, the Peloton Digital. Apple has something called Apple Fitness Plus there, but that's about ten bucks a month, right there. Finding exercise classes that you actually enjoy. I mean, it makes working out feel less of a chore, right you know. I mean you go to your local gym, but maybe you want to do in your house on demand fitness classes. Peloton makes one, as I
said, here's one called Alo Alo Alo's Edit Alo Moves. If you want to do yoga, pilates. Something called fitness Blender. It's a free website. You can watch hundreds of workout videos, set a schedule for yourself. That'd be pretty cool. There are or how about this, Maybe it's not healthy it Maybe it's like you tend to putts around a lot things coming to you don't do them, You just kind of like lax. How about some to do list apps? Get back on track organized organizing yours organization tools.
There is I kind of over the years, I've kind of played with this thing called to doist t O d O to do is t to do list. There's actually one for there's one for the iOS in mac os only. It's called things Pretty Detailed. Microsoft's actually the two do is as a Microsoft thing. They have a free tier, but other than that you can pay a little bit more. Password managers are two. Maybe you want to do this, Maybe you want to get your computing in your technology processes together.
Oh, I always forget my passwords. Tons of password managers. There's something called one password, the number one password Bitwarden Nord pass lane. So after saving all of your passwords for all of your accounts, you just need to remember one, hence the name one password to log into your one password account and you can access every all the others. Password generator type of things. You can get organization, get yourself organized. Who wants who would you don't
want organization? You work from home, you work from office. Maybe your office is now looks like crap. You rummage around your backpack. Oh my goodness, if you forgot your charging cable, you forgot your mouse, get a new backpack, a little organizer, little desk caddy or something you can do that. Computer docking stations do a lot of things on computer docking stations. So you could take your laptop, you could dock it and then you can take it from home, or you take it from your office and you
could dock it into a big old monitor. So that's pretty cool. Those things run around, you know, little docking things anywhere one hundred and fifty two hundred dollars or so there. Maybe you want to cook, you want to there's a lot of these one touch one devices in instant pots. How about that. I have something called a DREO dre EO. It is a combination toaster. It bakes, it air fries, it broils, it does everything. It's LASA dices dre EO. They'll actually be at CES next week.
So there's there's tons of other things that you can do. There's reading apps. If you want to start reading more, you can go out and get a kindle. There's e readers utilize and as we take our last break, here for the show. Utilize these services, these products, these things to maybe give yourself a little umph, a little kick or something. Sometimes you hire a trainer. Maybe I'm not trying to be your trainer, but I'm letting you know. There are products and services out there that some are
free. Some of you may have to spend ten bucks a month or whatever it is to kind of get your button gear get going in twenty twenty four. I need a few of these myself. I'm absolutely not perfect. The only thing I really don't need I don't need a hair dryer, any styling tips. I got that covered for you too. Which, by the way, there, I'm going to be some if I find an AI hair dryer, an Artifuntion hair dryer. If I don't have an endorsement deal by the
end of February, something is wrong with my agent. Okay, I'm going to get that person. On that final fifteen minutes over here, we are going to get out of here a little early. We have a University of Houston Cougar basketball game at twelve forty five pm Central time. The final segment of the High Tech Text and Show is coming up. Michael Garfield is my name for those of you tuning in and you don't know, it's a little
shortened version, a special edition of the High Tech Texting Show Today. Normally we go about another thirty minutes until one o'clock PM and one o'clock am for our repeat performance. We're going to get out of here a little early because we have to make way for the University of Houston Cougar basketball undefeated University Cougar's University of Houston Cup guys. That will start at twelve forty five Central time
or so. But I do thank everybody for tuning in. Got a lot of new listeners and a lot of visitors from out of town here in h Town. This week, big National Championship football game, Washington Huskies Michigan Wolverines. They are playing just down the road at NRG Stadium. Some mancillary events. What do we've got. We've got stuff going on at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Playoffs Central. I think it's free. Everybody can
get in and go look at the trophy and play some interactive games. We've got a taste of the college football playoffs. If you actually people have been calling it or emailing and social media in me going Hey Man, fun show, love the energy. Hey mister Texas, Where do I get barbecue? Where do I get some good food? Or where do I get some text? Bax? Well, you can get that actually in one place Sunday night, five o'clock Minute Made Park or actually Union Station, next to Minim Park
where the Astros play. Downtown walkable right there from almost across the street, almost from the Convention Center, there is a called Taste of the College Football Playoffs about thirty different local Houston restaurants, great chefs. They're going to be sampling all their wares. Tickets, say, think think about a buck fifty, think about one hundred fifty dollars. But if you want to do something for a few hours and try some really good Houston based food, it's happening
Sunday night and Monday. If you have a game ticket, you can get there early, and there's concerts and everything. Oh there's also concerts at right where the Houston Dynamo play what is it called Shell Energy Stadium, also downtown. If they just play the actual game downtown, you would never have to leave downtown. But alas in our g Stadium is a nice ten to fifteen minute drive, maybe a little bit more traffic from downtown. Everything else is
pretty concentrated around downtown. What else can we help you with? I told you sees Suber Electronics show. I will be there most all of next week. Please follow me online social media, high tech texts and high e H T e x A N specifically Instagram, Little Tweeter, Little Tweeter or app sorry acts if you will. I will be showing you in some behind the scenes information of all of the cool tech products that will be announced that you do not need and do not want to pay for it because there will be
so expensive when they are released this year. I did ask uh how to save money when it comes to technology. Somebody asked me, Michael, I have all these old phones. I know, I'm not supposed to throw them out, and they're so old I don't even want to give them anybody.
Is there anything I could do with this thing? Actually there is. Here is your Tip of the Day, Tip of the Day, Tip of the Day, Bop Bop Tip of the Day, Tip of the Day, Tip of the Day sponsored by nobody Bye Bye Moile because he just takes tips. Take an old phone, Android or iPhone sitting there? Did you know you can turn that into a home security camera. Yep, this is what I do. People. If you got a new iPhone fifteen, maybe a new
Galaxy flip, maybe a pixelate or something for all days. Yeah you what'd you do with the old one? What'd you do with the old wom You actually could turn it into a security camera at home, keep your home safe. Here's what you need to do. Get a security camera app app for your phone. There of them out there, a lot of them out there. One is called Alfred. Seriously, it's called Alfred. It's like Batman. It's a really good app. Sets up your phone as a security camera.
Works on Android, works an iPhone, totally free. It gives you a remote view of your live feed, motion detection with alerts, free cloud storage, two way audio feeds. You can listen to see what's going on, talk and see what's going on. It uses the front end the rear cameras. You can monitor pretty much anywhere. Did you set the phone in your living room, bedroom, kitchen. You don't actually have to go out and buy one of these really cool new Wi Fi enabled little tiny Some of
them are relative expensive cameras. So you download an app and just just go Google Security Camera app. All right, let's I'll call it Outfred. Here's what. So you download download the app on both your old phone and your new phone or any tablet that you want to use to monitor. So you do it twice on the new phone, new phone or the current phone or your tablet, hit start next and the whole thing. You sign in with
Google. On the old phone, you do the same thing, and you set that up one up, but as the camera, you check the box that says camera not the viewer camera. Sign into the same Google accounts, and once you're both signed into Alfred, that's pretty much it. People. So you just kind of set up your old phone and you choose a spot. You know, you may want to focus on the main entry point to your home, maybe your backyard. I would not put it outside because it's
your phone. And if it rains or the amidity, oh yes, there is humidity here in Houston for you new covers to place it pointed at your valuables, family jewels, the family, anything you eat. You mount it and then you power it up, put it on a smartphone tripod, maybe lean it up against something sucks you cup somewhere. Go get a car, mount and suction cup to your window inside your home and there you go streaming videos. It's very you do you need to plug it in because it sucks
up a lot of power. Phone wants to be on twenty four to seven and that's it. Pretty cool. There is your tip of that tip of the dirt, tip of the dey, brought to you by Pop Pop Pop nobody. These are the things last tip of the day. How somebody says, Michael, I needed start saving some money. What about all these streaming services? You talk about it all the time, they get it. Tell you what? How would you like some free streaming services? Free garf style
my favorite four letter word. If you depending on which data and sell carry you have T Mobile at and T Verizon. Depending on what level service they are starting to offer, streaming services are included in your packages. For example, certain T Mobile customers, you can now have Hulu the advertising supported Hulu tear and no extra costs. That starts in about two weeks January twenty fourth.
T Mobile another plus plan also includes Apple TV Plus. Now I think it's a one year thing and when you sign up, you're gonna have to remind yourself to renew your free subscriptions so you don't get paid for it. Verizon, folks, they have a Netflix in Max discount. Verizon said last month that they announced that my plan customers they have access to I think a
forty percent discount on the AP advertisers supported Netflix and Max. By the way, Netflix, they are there, and I think Amazon Prime, Amazon Prime that's going up in dollars and they're gonna start serving ads actually later this month too. Cricket Wireless say, if I got Cricket, if you use the sixty dollars per month unlimited plan that includes the ad supported Max which used to be HBO Max Metro by T Mobile, there's a one year subscription free to
vis Vix Premium. That's a Spanish language streaming service. People. As we wrap up this show, because we've got to get out here a little early, look for deals better than that. Listen to me, this is my twenties. We start what the twenty second or so year the high Tech Texting show. As we turned the calendar, and I can't thank you enough. Thanks Eddy Martini who runs iHeart Radio here in the Houston area. Mark Sherman. We've got Brian Erickson and Callum Reid, thank you for keeping us on
the air and pushing all these buttons. Enjoy Houston, folks, if you were just here for the weekend first time or many times. If you're rooting for the game again, I believe Washington Huskies are gonna come away with the big trophy. I'm sorry my Longhorns aren't there. After that, it is all NFL, and how about them Cowboys. I am not afraid to put it out there for all of us who have been a part of this show,
I do thank you for tuning in. Be safe and happy New Year, because right now the first show of twenty twenty four is over.
