Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio add now your high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield. Well, congrats to everyone who made it through dry January. As a
prize, you will all be receiving one extra day of February. That is right the beginning of a leap year. Happy Saturday. Should you be listening live, It is called the high Tech Texan Show. Michael is my name, Michael Garfield, Little pep in my voice. I have no clue why. Maybe the cocktails are flowing brought to you by Papa's pl R rum. If you got a little something something. You have nothing to do this weekend really because there is no football. We are in the midst of the not
the just dry February, the weekend of drive football. We are kind of sad actually, because we have four more hours left of football this season. And that's not a good thing, especially for people like me, because that is my escape. Massive, massive sports fan, certainly a football fan, despite the fact that my team is nowhere near the super Bowl. SIMI near the super Bowl, but I really doesn't matter who's actually playing. I am
going to talk about that today, including super Bowl ticket prices. Should you be going out to Vegas with me next weekend? The best deals on Super Bowl TVs? Is this the right time? Is this the best time of year to buy a TV? Actually, I could probably make a case that it is, and I actually found some semi decent prices on TV. Should you be hosting a big Super Bowl party next week? I will tell you how to watch the Super Bowl, whether you're at home or you're traveling or
your mobile. Some of it costs money, How to watch it in four K, how to watch it and even potentially eight K, and some of the neat new things that CBS is doing with their technology their cameras on how they're televising the big Game this coming year. Also, not one, not but two brand new phones I am testing this week, the brand new Samsung Galaxy S twenty four Ultra. By the way, I have to I have to say, Ultra, I have no clue why let's pack with artificial intelligence.
Samsung actually has done some pretty neat features along with Google and also one Plus. I've slowly become a fan of one Plus. It's a Chinese brand Android. You may not be one hundred percent familiar with it, but for the past three or four months I've been playing with the one plus open their big fold out foldable phone. I am in receipt of the brand new flagship,
the one plus twelve. Really good cameras people, really good cameras, is some neat features, and so I will talk you off the ledge should you be in the mood or the mode to potentially get a new phone other than that good senior Callum Reid and everybody else who is on the other side of the glass. Nothing special today, right guys? Right guys? Is that what? What are you hiding back there? What are you hiding? Are you lighting candles? I'll give you the phone number here to uh to
talk to ask questions because it is a call in show. The last time we've checked for twenty two plus years, it is seven one three two one two five nine five two one two five nine five zero When we come to you from the world head We actually the Houston headquarters of iHeart Radio, not too far from the Galleria. We will answer number your questions. And this is what I also do during the week I answer questions, not so much here on the live phone calls that we get on the radio show show,
but people reach out to me on social media. They certainly have my email, website high Tech Texan obviously, and all the socials do. I want to start with this because somebody reached out because they clicked on a link on their phone a few days ago what they thought was an innocuous link to an obituary, and apparently they accidentally downloaded some malware and their phone was freaking out.
It's sad that bad people in the world have to prey upon the good fortune and good people out there of pretending to be to pretending to put links on about subjects that about things that we think are very harmless, and one of which was an obituary. And I'll start with this. A gentleman I knew, and I only met him about six months ago. Six months ago he passed away semi suddenly over the weekend, and his name Ricky Ford,
and Ricky. It's he was out in the Alvin, Texas area, you know, southwest of Houston, and he ran a company called gentle Ben and it was it's not a it's a liquor distilling company, but he patented a process that takes liquor and it gets a lot of, if not all, of the impurities out of the liquor when you after you distill them. And I met him through another buddy of mine, and it's a showed me the process because you know, I'm a big obviously alcohol guy, sertainly a bourbon
guy. And he was a really really good dude. He was probably in his mid sixties, I believe, and I took him to lunch probably about four months ago. We were trying to figure out how we could work together because I do talk about liquor and alcohol and spirits and what have you. And in the location they have gentle Ben and you if you go into some local specs and some total wines, goody goodies and stuff, you'll see gentle Ben jin gentle Bin vodka, gentle Ben Bourbon. After they were fined.
It's it's some good juice, it really really is. It's got a great The location of the art's in the middle of gosh, almost nowhere of Alvin, Texas, and it's got a great bar, and you know, we just kind of hung out a few times. So away he passed away, didn't neither here nor there, but obviously just you know, condolences for the people who know him, who knew of them were familiar with gentle Bin Brand.
So a one of my Facebook friends who knew I was friends with Ricky, they had sent me U Facebook you know, uh kind of a message and they said, hey, man, I was trying to click on this link to read Ricky's obituary and look what happened. And they sent me a screenshot of all this malware being downloaded, and it just it just made me mad. Man, this God misses me off. It's like, were mourning for this guy that we knew, and you want to read the obituary.
You think you're clicking the obituary, and the obituary was in the obituary. And I've seen this happen a lot, because right when, I'll give you an example, when someone dies all of a sudden, and about a year and a half ago, this happened to be two a friend of mine grew up in Dallas, just was killed all of a sudden, and it's like, oh my gosh, what happened. I want to get the inside info.
So you start googling their name and obituary, and all of a sudden, a few things start popping up and it's like a link, and all of a sudden it's to form websites. I mean, these people are quick, these bad hackers, they prey on you. The point I'm trying to make is don't fall for some of this stuff you want to Just it's tough to do on your mobile phone. We now know what to click on and what not to click on. I think when it comes to desktops and laptops,
you can take your mouse. You can hover over a link and what should pop up? Pop up? It should give you the website where you're allegedly going to go. And if it's not something legit, don't click on it. I mean, if it's a long URL and it's not a dot com and it looks like it's for it, just don't click on. Sometimes hard to do when you're on a mobile phone because you just really can't hover on anything because you just click on a link. Just try not to do
that, do that stuff. But the point is, and I know there was like a three four minute build up of this thing. There's actually software that you should be using on your phone to stop anti virul well, to stop viruses. It's called it antivirus software. There's several of them out there, and if you don't have it, please do yourself for forever download them right now, several of them. Norton makes makes one called Norton or Norton
Bang Zoom didn't Norton Mobile security. Caspersky very big when it comes to antivirus on desktops, but they make a mobile antivirus, look Out Security. If you have a Samsung phone, Samsun actually owns I think they bought a company. They may have bought Lookout, I'm not sure. They usually come built in with an antivirus. So where AVG anti virus. That's a free one. There's some ads in there, but that's free. Also, Google has
something called Google Play Protect. I don't care which one you use, but just download it because this can stop your phone. You do not want malware, You do not want anybody hacking into your phone. Because we rely on our phones more so, I believe than desktops and laptops and what have you. So there are ways to prevent that. For some reason, you do have to download it. So we're going to take a break and again condolences
to Ricky Ford and friends of his family. The gentle Bin is the name of the company, the product that he produces, Gone too soon, and just sitting shiva for that good man, and also sitting shiva for all your phones and desktops and laptops that do have malware. When we come back, we'll talk a little Super Bowl how you can watch it, some really good deals on TVs and anything else you need, because that's what we're doing here in wet February, because your I January is over. That is right.
It's some mister meet getting gar our Field. How are you happy Saturday? If you download the iHeartRadio app you're listening on podcast. I have no clue where you are, I have no clue what time you're listening to it, But got about hour and forty minutes left to me, and I don't

So look what we got here. You've got mail. Dear Michael, I'm not a stalker, but rather
a longtime listener. Got a stat for you. This today is only the third time in the history of yours show that your birthday falls on the day of your actual Saturday show. And by the way, you've been doing this show almost one third of your life. That is from Toby in Paarland. Uh oh, somebody's very stockersh oh, somebody new somebody stock Thank you Toby, Toby a girl or dude, Toby? If your check, won't you send me a photo? Are we friends on Facebook? Thank you Toby?
Yes? Okay, callum, is that what you guys were doing back there? Yes? Today is the day birthday another year old. That's fine. What is it? What is it with birthday? Listen? I've been getting a ton of text and emails from a lot of listeners and friends out there. Thank you very much for your nice wishes. What is it with today that people want? I sign up for a lot of email marketing stuff for restaurants. Hey, it's your birthday, you get this my inbox. This
past week has been has been full, Michael? Is your birthday? Your birthday? Month of February? Come in, but it's always for free dessert. What's up with? What's up with the dessert stuff? I mean can't? I mean, does nobody want to throw in a nice chicken sandwich throwing it out a little keso appetizer or something. Well, let's let's go. How about we go through the the emails over here. Let's see Papasitos barbecue. What did what did they send me over here? Yep? I got
a free dessert? What kind of dessert is Papasitos barbecue? I do you like Papasia's barbecue? Papasitos, Michael? You get the free tress lets us cake? Okay? Good? Exactly, which I don't need even though I know it's very good. Black Bear diner? Do you like me some Black Bear diner? This went out in shirt Land, not too far from me. Oh wait a minute standby, I didn't read this. I get a birthday meal. I get an entree, the barest choice, which is eggs.
It looks like waffles and two sausages, which I don't eat sausage. Callum, when's your birthday? Because I can ford this d for this du I just I'm going to listen. I at the beginning of the year, you want to lose weight, and I try to do best as I can in January, but I travel, man, I'm at Ces. There's all
these hosted parties and whatever. Okay, so then the remaining two weeks, I'm pretty good knowing that the first week or two in February birthday time, I'm just I gotta go eat something smash Burger, A gift from us to sweeten your day, A free handspunge shake. I love shakes. People. If I have one shake a year, I'm lying. I could drink a shake a day. I just don't. I just can't, man, I'm just some debts. I just don't want the poundage on there. But it's
free. Man, gotta celebrate. Is there any liquor in there, I'm to bring it home and actually put my own cocktails. Enough of that, thank you so much. If you guys want to get me something, why don't you get me a television so I could I can watch the super Bowl, even though I will be out there super Bowl. Who's watching it? Will? I'm gonna tell you how to watch it, But let me give
you the ticket prices. I am on SeatGeek dot com. Sadly no sponsorship or partnership over here, but they have a day to day tracker of how much Super Bowl tickets cost on the resale market. Any clue, any clue? The average ticket price, the average ticket price, the average ticket price thirty days before the game, which was, you know, almost a month
ago. It was four hundred dollars. And I don't know. I mean, if I could buy a super Bowl ticket for four hundred dollars at any given time of the year, I'd buy a ton of them and resell them. I don't know where they get that, folks. Right now, right now, the average ticket to the super Bowl a week from right now in Las Vegas secondary market eleven thousand, eight hundred dollars. What is the most
you've ever paid for a ticket for anything? Anybody out there? Seven one three two one two five nine five Ozho, What is the most you've ever paid for a ticket for anything? I went to the the second game of the World Series this past October in Arlington. It was my Texas Rangers and me and my two or three best friends. We bought tickets, probably on se geek or something like that. Paid nine hundred and actually it was nine
hundred and fifty dollars. Apparently they knew what station I worked at, so they charged me nine five oh nine fifty nine to fifty. Definitely the most expensive ticket I've ever paid for, and I've been to some. Listen. I've been to four Super Bowls. I've been to countless Final fours. But again, I get very nice. I either have press passes because I'm covering it. Maybe a sponsor, A lot of sponsors will always invite me. But listen, my Rangers are in the Super are in the World Series.
I'm gonna go. So I paid nine hundred and fifty I would, I'm sorry. As big of a Longhorn fan, I am, as big as a Cowboys fan as I am of Dallas Mavericks or Rangers, I'm not. I mean, I guess a thousand dollars would be my limit and I say this because I'm leading up to the television. You can see so many things on sports better on TV than you can in the actual stadium. But I
love the atmosphere. I just love being there. And it's just it's it's it's the excitement, it's the finality, it's the this is the last game of the year. Because I love going to the championships, the final four of the Super Bowl, the World Series. This is this is it, especially if it's my team. But listen, I've had the good fortune of being there. I've been to see my team win the Super Bowl, super Bowl twenty eight when the Cowboys be Buffalo. I was there. I've been
to the Vince Young University of Texas game. I was on the sidelines. I was there. I've now seen the Texas Rangers win the World Series, well, actually a game of the World Series. I always in at the clincher over there, that man eleven and that's just average. That puts you. That probably puts you at Mandalay Bay. You're so far away from the stadium of Las Vegas. Oh good, so do I not gonna not get into it. But if you're a Kansas City chief or your San Francisco forty
nine ers fan. And if you've got some jack, you just go ahead and do that. Or if you just want to be in the same place to say that Taylor Swift is you go ahead and do that thing. Cheapest ticket to get in eighty five hundred dollars. But the thing is that right now, it's they're only going to go up. They're only going to go up. Most expensive ticket. I'll drop the subject after this right now on seat Gake forty six thousand dollars. Okay, people, you could buy well,
you can't buy a house. You could buy a car, you could pay your mortgage for a damn long time. You could put your kid through some sort of a college, or you could spend four hours at Allegiance Stadium watching a football game. It's it is up to you. You know how to get a hold of me, you know how to get in contact. Phones are packed. Very nice wishes for the the birthday. I do appreciate that cocktails are rolling with papas plr rum Best Super Bowl TV deals. I'll
start here. We got about a minute to the break, but let me see what we got. I did some research for you. The if you're looking for a new TV set. This is a good time to do it. A lot of the discounts on TV's stem from the natural pricing cycle of
the TV market itself, more than really super Bowl specific sales. But you're seeing a lot of For years, manufacturers have said, hey, listen, you know, if you're having a Super Bowl party, you've got to get the latest, the greatest, the biggest, the most highest death in whatever it is. So they're happening right now. Let me give I got an email. Let's see, Samsung had sent me something. They have got a seventy seven inch o led OLED, which is organic light emmuting diode. Here's
twenty three hundred dollars. That's an Amazon. Samsung's got the frame. That's neat because what it turns into like a picture frame when it's not on some artwork. Fourteen hundred dollars. I found that that's a sixty five inch. And then we get to the less expensive. There's brands like High Sense, Hi s N see High Sense. Here's a fifty five inch for six hundred and ninety eight dollars, and here is a sixty five inch for six hundred
and eighty dollars. These are pretty good deal. The thing is you have to look at some of the features and what features should you be looking for into television. We'll tell you what I'm gonna tell you, but I'm gonna pull a Ryan Seacrest. Here's a little Ryan Seacrest, one of my people who work here at right with me, I'm gonna tell you what to look for into TV after the break back at it bottom of the hour. This is the first hour. Still got it hour and a half to go to
kill some time. How are you? Michael garfid Lee. It's called the High Tech text and show. Glad to be with you? Really here the first Saturday of a February you weary? February February. It's funny how people jack up this month. This is the shortest month of the year, but
it's the hardest to pronounce of all the months. February February. I was so watching some YouTube video of the correct pronunciation of this month, and a lot of people had foreign accents and they're in England or you know, they're for I'll show you something fit February. There's an f e b r u a r what februy It looks like Febrewary, but you don't pronounce the first R. I don't think then again, I'm I'm Texas. I use Texas
English, which is lazy English. February second month of the year. Fab Just let's just let's just go with fab Happy feb Feb third as we are doing the show Plausaly Live seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh questions or salutations or little celebrations. I'm more than happy to uh read your emails, take your phone calls going over some of the TV deals for Super Bowl? Do I need a TV? I used to have? And I'm not kidding you. I think I had eighteen televisions in my house.
Not hyperbole, not hygh perpole and I know how to pronounce and spell that one actually too. Fifteen twenties, about twenty years about twenty yeah, two kids were yeah, about twenty years ago. It's not like I had a massive house, you know, just a tip. It was a two story ranch house out in the burbs. But I lived for television. I mean I had a TV in my garage. I had a TV out backyard overlooking the pool. I had a TV in my bathroom, I had a TV
in my closet next to my bathroom. I mean, I'd like watching TV. I grew up on TV. I like the sound of TV TVs, like my best friend. It's just background noise. And it's not like I got these TVs for free. I had just was I even I just started out as high tech text and I just started collecting TVs. And some of these TVs were not flat screen twenty years ago. I mean these were, you know, the big tube TVs. I do not have eighteen TVs right now. I've got four. We got four or five TVs. We're talking
about TVs for super Bowl. This is a very good time to actually be looking for television sets. A lot of the manufacturers have them on sale. And again I'm reading an email over here I got from the PR people from Samsung, who have I've I don't think I've ever even had a Samsung television. I know they're nice. Here's a seventy Best Buy seventy seven inch four K for nineteen ninety nine, So you say about sixteen hundred dollars. Here
is a fifty five inch at Amazon for one thousand. You say five hundred dollars. Here's a fifty inch for two seventy nine. That's an Ultra high definition UHD four K at Best Buy from Samsung. It's not bad. Here's a sixty five inch UHD four K for six hundred ninety nine dollars. You save two hundred dollars. That's a Target. So the point is you can go to Walmart, Target, Best by Amazon. I mean a lot of this thing. You can find these TVs right now. But you think these
are high priced. I will tell you this. In two thousand and three, that was the first time specifically, I remember because we just moved into that house. I have a flat screen TV. Flat screen high definition digital TVs just came out. It was a Hatachi, which does not even make TVs anymore. Hitachi. It was fifty inches, which is about almost as small as you want to go for something on your on your wall if you're
sitting far back, fifty eges. I am not kidding. Hand of God, Retail twelve thousand dollars may have been fifteen thousand dollars if I'm like, I am not kidding you. I remember they were installing it, and this is like, you needed a team of people to install this thing because you're not hanging something this twelve thousand dollars on the wall, and this thing's gonna fall down. I mean they had to brace. They put a bracket that
was nailed to the studs in the wall. It was that the bracket was so far in there that the guy who installed it that that bracket he was doing chin ups just to show me that it'll handle his weight. That TV lasted quite a while, but then the TV broke and I had a TV repair guy. God, I forgot his name. Man, I haven't talked
to him in twelve years, and I hope he's still around. You don't see a TV repair guy who comes to your house much anymore because TV's nowadays they're relative I say relative, they're relatively inexpensive versus the cost of repairing a TV and buying one. You say, screw it, I'm just going to buy a new TV. I'm serious. It's they're not worth repairing. But the guy couldn't replace it, and I mean obviously I disposed of it properly.
Never throw a television out or any electronic gear just in your teeth, just in your typical trash can You got to you know, Hofully recycle or something. But you know, twelve thousand dollars for a fifty inch TV. I just said, this is a Samsung for two seventy nine. You can find other brands probably cheaper for fifty inch TV's. It's amazing how the price is come down for TVs, but the prices rise for phones. Let's let's
talk about this. And I'm going to segue to phones right now because I'm reviewing two new phones right now, one of which is thirteen one hundred dollars compared that to a fifty inch And I'm just looking at the Samsung television, Samsung TV at best Buy fifty inch two seventy nine. I could buy five TVs for the price of a phone. It's like remember when boomboxes back in the eighties they were getting bigger because you you know, you wanted to you
know, jam out, and you know you would break down. I didn't do break It's so funny. How things better it be it size or being priced. They could tell you that they go opposite ways. You know, I want portability. You know Walkman were coming out back in the nineteen you know, late early eighties. I wanted something small. No boomboxes got bigger.
TVs now they're getting thinner, they're getting bigger, and the prices is I just told you they're relatively I mean, they're nothing compared to when they first came out, twelve thousand dollars versus five hundred and four hundred dollars right now. Phones, however, they're not cheap. Is it because they're smaller and they've got more parts in there? I don't know, I hear and
I don't know this for a fact that phones are a lost leader. Phones that are eight hundred dollars, thirteen hundred dollars to some extent, that's what they cost, and sometimes the manufacturers end up losing money what they sell them for. They make the money up on the back end with deals with carriers. You know, you know, you pay this thing up twenty bucks a month, fifty bucks a month, whatever it is, and paid over four
years and the whole thing fourteen hundred dollars for a phone. Let's I just got finished test in an eighteen hundred dollars phone. That's about as pricey of a phone that I've played with. A foldable phone. Foldable phones, you know, they've got more working parts and what have you. It's a it's a small phone that becomes bigger when you fold it out or flip it up. Eighteen hundred dollars. That's what the Samsung the Fold, the Samsung Fold
five Z Fold five. Also the one plus open, that's what I've been playing with for eighteen hundred dollars. What an away? The one plus one plus thege it's a company O N. Don't it's not the number one O N A p l U S one plus great camera. You ever heard of a hassle Blod camera. It's tough to beat the name hassle Blood when it comes to photography lenses and cameras. Got a hassle Blood camera on this thing. It looks kind of crazy on the back of the phone. It's like
this big circle thing with three lenses. They ain't neither here or there. One plus twelve it's the new flagship. The pr folks at one plus nice enough to send me. What a test? Your phone a little larger than an you know, than your iPhone fifteen Pro plus. It's or a Samsung twenty four the Samsung Galaxy S twenty four old Trump, which also is what I have. But I'll talk about the one plus here for a minute or two. It is. It's a good phone. It's a very good camera,
fast processor. If you're a mobile gamer. Graphics really good to play on six point eight to two inch display that's diagonally. You can the refresh rate, which you know as measured it hurts hz, which is a very telltale sign of how you can buy televisions. You want something in terms of televisions at least one hundred and twenty hurts, if not two hundred and forty herts. That's native stuff. But that's how fast the scream refreshes. And
so when you're playing games you want that. The refresh rate. You can actually change it on this phone, the one plus twelve from one hundred and twenty. You could take it down to one hurts for some reason if you
ever need it. Very smooth, refresh rate works good. Very bright bright fitness on phones is measured in something called the knits n it as you knit with forty five hundred knits, very very bright easily beats the brightness of a lot of some of the Apple, the Samsung, and even the Google phones. Snapdragon eight generation three processor, lots of RAM random access memory and a
lot of storage too. You do want some storage, especially if you're going to take a lot of videos, and when you have a good camera. This is a wonderful camera. It's a hassleblod camera on this one plus phone. You're gonna take a lot of videos. I take a lot of videos. I take a lot of videos that I actually use on Great Day Houston, the TV show here that I appear on regularly. I do a lot of social media videos. I don't need to go out and buy this high
end Sony broadcast camera. I do it on my cell phone. Man, So you want a lot of storage because I edit on there. Also, this is the way the world is. I did not learn this when I was a radio at Delvision and Film Major back at the eighth No, everything is different right now, man, I just whip out some program editing program app program an appen and I'm set to go the Uh it's got as. I like this fact because this has a fan in here. It keeps it
cool. Because you know how phones can get hot, There's a fan in this one plus one plus twelve that actually keeps the cool, which is why it's a good, actually good gaming phone. Go take a look at it. If you're an Android fan, and I'm not the guy who averre gonna tell you switch from Android to iOS iOS Android do what you want. But there are more phones out there than big manufacturers. Samsung, Google, Pixel one plus very impressed the past four or five months because they've been sending me
some phones that I've had time to play with. Cool stuff. When we come back, I'll tell you a little bit more about that's right, the new Samsung phone. Samsung just two days ago, I think, released their entire life three camera, three phone smartphones of the new S twenty four,
Galaxy S twenty four. There's the S twenty four, the S twenty four plus, and the S twenty four Ultra comes with the stylust and that maybe thirteen hundred dollars worth it for not I'll tell you after the birthday, continuing to look through my emails for all the little annual birthday offers that I'm getting other than food from so many of these restaurants I signed up for, and stop giving me crap. People. Listen, everybody should sign up using a
not a fake email, obviously, but a separate email. I don't want when you sign up for all these newsletters for anything, whether it's a birthday or just a hey, keep me updated with what's going on in your world or whatever. I have so many different emails, you know, generic Yahoo or a Gmail or something, so I think for my birthday clubs or my restaurant affinity program. Let's just put it this way. I have my own
separate email. So I'm looking through that address and I'm getting if you just tuned in, yes, it's not about me, Well it is my show, so it is my birthday today. So anyway, thank you for tuning in and for all your best wishes and all of your new offers that are coming in. So I'm getting dessert, desert dessert, dessert from all these other restaurants. I just sifted through this one. This came in earlier this week. Happy early birthday, Michael from United Airlines. United is giving me
a free Economy plus seat upgrade. It's nice to turn another year older. Thank you United. I rarely fly United. Now Southwest gave me something now that would be something. So I get a free economy. But can I can I sell? Actually I think I could. This is how I have to. They gave me a code to use, which I'm not going to say right now. Anytime I make a United Airlines, I guess I have to use it this month of worry something. Here's a special code. I
wonder if I could sell this code somebody who's flying. You want to code, let me know. I'm at seven one three two two five nine five O Michael Gorefield. I got about the eight nine minutes before the top of our number one. Continue to talk about the best deals on Super Bowl TVs. Your questions about phones reviewing phones, I told you I've got two phones that I'm I'm playing with right now. I just finished talking about the one
plus twelve. People think there are two brands of phones. They think there is Samsung, and they think there is Apple. There there there's many more that there's that Google makes Pixel, which is a very good phone. There's Motorola, There's just Huawei. There there, I mean, there's a there used to be no used to be no Key. I mean, listen, there's a ton of them. Pretty much, it's you've got your iOS, which is Apple, and then you've got everything else, which is Android.
I am an Android fan, which is why you hear me talking about Android so much more. Pretty much all I talk about is Android and recommendations. I haven't played with an Apple iPhone since I think version two, which I've had, so Apple does a bad job of sending me a review units, so I don't know what to talk about them, So screw it. I mean, I've got the phones coming out, the YadA YadA YadA from Samsung and from one Plus and all of these others, which is why I'm lapping
about it. Speaking of Samsung, somebody is in receipt of the newest Samsung Galaxy S twenty four Ultra. Three new versions just came out, just released I think two days ago. I have had the Samsung Galaxy Ultra for about two weeks and been talking about it, and I really wasn't under any embargo for about two weeks ago. But I've just been leaking some information because I've been playing with some of the features, which are pretty pretty cool now.
I did not get to go to the Samsung announcement this year of Unpacked and San Jose, so I didn't get the really inside info where I wanted to learn more about it. I wanted to talk to some of the Sansung representatives that did not come through. So at last I'm looking at press releases, and I'm I'm playing with myself, which I'm a I think I'm a pretty good, you know, reviewer in terms of looking at some of the features of why this could be good or what are some of the features that is
lacking. The S twenty four Ultra pretty much the same form factor, if not the exact same form factor of the S twenty three Ultra, and the Ultra is the big dog. What a big dog. It is the large one of the three that released. They released the X twenty four, the S twenty four Plus and the S twenty four Ultra. I'm playing with the Ultra. So this is the one on a yap about a little bit more than the others. It is has a stylust then here it's at the bottom
of the phone. You can click out the styles, which looks it's a mechanical it's like an elect digital pin, digital pencil, if you will, and a stylus. It's got a nice little holder at the bottom of the bottom of the phone. Clicks in, clicks out. And this is something that I personally don't use on a regular basis. I personally don't use I'm
not an artist, I'm not a graphical little drawer type of thing. I don't need to take a lot of notes with the pin, but this is something that you can easily do. There's a number of things you could do with the pin. As I hold this phone, and this is why I love having so many products. I am going to give you the play by play in my left hand. Right now, I am holding the Yalaxy S twenty four Ultrum. As you listen on your radio, dog going left to
right on the screen I've got in my right hand. I just popped out this pin. And as you popped up this digital pin, which is called the stylist, you could touch it and you could do a number of things. You can write on the screen. You could circle things in the screen, which I'm going to talk about something one really neat feature about circle search circle on the screen, and you could take notes. You could jot things
down. You could draw some things. If you're using this for business and you're taking inventory and you're checking boxes you check on, you can write on calendars. You could do a number of create notes. You can magnify some things just by using this pen. I should I use this stylus more? Yeah? I should, probably, I just don't but again, this is me and I'm not mad. You don't call me a power user or not a power user whatever. But I'm going to click this pin back in over
here. But the form factor is very large. I'm not a I'm not the biggest fan of large phones because I carry my phone in my front jing, my front right pocket. And if I'm wearing some title sexy jeans, you know, the GQ things, when I'm strutting down the red carpet, man, I got this bulge of this big rectangle thing. Stick it out of my my right pocket. Nice to meet you. My name is Michael,
so it's it's pretty big. Now. I love other form I love the foldable phone form factors that other phones have, including the Samsung you know, Galaxy flip fold, the foot and the fold man. The full five is pretty big too, but this is big. It is bigger than the other versions. Sometimes they'll put up my back pop whatever. But I could I go back into the nineteen I don't know, maybe two thousand and two, two thousand and three, where I had my little phone holder clipped on
the right side on my belt. I don't know. I really don't want to do that though, because I don't want to look like that. Though I have a Dad Bob. I don't want to look like dad phone Bob. But anyway, six point eight inches, you know, diagonally and some of the let me just talk about the features. Galaxy it's coming out and they have something called the it's called Galaxy AI artificial intelligence now artificial intelligence. It was something very very big at CES and all of the S twenty fours.
They have what's called the Galaxy AI Artificial Intelligence. And some of the neat things that you can do with it is one of which I kind of had fun with. It's called circle to search what it is anytime on anything on the screen, on any app, on anything you're surfing. What you do is you long press the bottom of the screen and it kind of freezes the screen. You take your finger or you can take the stylist and you
circle anything on the screene. Circle a photo of a product that you don't know what it is, circle some words, circle of search item, and then you click a button and boila, it goes out to Google and it searches for it. So it's it's kind of like a Google lens, if you will, but Google lens is not that standalone app. So I'm looking at a product, I'm like, what is this product? How much does it cost? I take a picture of it, I circle on the phone.
Automatically, Google finds the thing and it shows me. It gives me link of stuff like that. I thought that was pretty I thought that was pretty neat too, some of the artificial intelligence. They've also got voice translation on phone calls. It's called chat Assist. I believe when you're on a phone call, it will live translate during the call in a number of different languages. I don't know why I would need it. I, you know, speak a little Espanola, I know a little Hebrew, little Yiddish,
and that's all I got. But pretty much one of every person I speak with on a regular basis speaks speaks Ingerish quite well. But when you're traveling it does work good. It does work well. It really does. There's a notes app. It could summarize, it can auto format, it can spell check, it can translate a file. Not exactly groundbreaking. I think they're pretty cool though. Listen a lot of these features they're available from services
like bar chat, GPT things. But it's nice that it's all neatly built into one real quickly. The S twenty four Ultra made of titanium. I don't think to me that is a big deal. Does it feel a little lighter than the form of the S twenty three Ultra last year? Maybe so, but just because I know it's titanium. If you think you're getting titanium because it's stronger, it's bigger's well, guess what your phone should always be in a case? It should be covered. So it really doesn't matter that
much. But point is, it is a relatively strong the whole grill glass and everything like that. It is not cheap. It is thirteen hundred dollars is very expensive relative terms, But overall I'm the long time Samsung fan. It's got a very bright display, it does have a ton of those AI tools. It's got really good, I mean really good battery life performance is nice, great telephoto camera lens with a higher resolution of about five times and
as lung as. It's got that titanium frame. Other than that, I don't know. It's just another chocolate bar type of phone. If you need it, great if you have an S twenty three S twenty three Ultra. Don't know if you need an upgrade. But again, big Android fan, certainly a Samsung fan. Go check it out. Listen top of the hour.
We got to take a break. Coming back on the other side, how to watch the super Bowl, Yes, even in four K. I'm gonna give you some of the things that CBS is doing with the technology on their Super Bowl cameras, which I love. And also I'm gonna run down the most valuable brands in the world. I'll explain the word valuable what that means. Coming up on the High A Dexant Show is Michael garfil Michael Garfield.
Michael Garfield's joining us in the high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is here with a high Tech Texans items to make life easier of new technology, and Michael Garfield has something you might want. Michael Garfield is your high tech Texan. Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets. I heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio Act. Now your high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield. Halfway through the Very Special A year older, Michael Garfield high Tech Dexans job. Is
it very nice? And I am getting for clempt of all the birthday wishes, all the emails, some of the text I'm getting some of white people out there. They got invites for dinner, funny thing about birthdays, by the way, by the way, halfway to happy hour, brought to you by Papa's Pilar Rum, which, by the way, I'm having a nice little sip right house. I could do that in studio because I am not driving after this, I may just, you know, chill out here because
since there's no football, there's nothing else to do. Papa's Pillar unbelievable rum Ernest Hemingway family, four different varietels, does not just the blonde rum, not just the dark room, but it's the dark room that's just soaked and casks of rye whiskey for about a year or so gives it a nice little finish once you've tried to find it at one of your wonderful liquor stores. And also some great restaurants, including my man Steve Jost, who is the
general manager managing partner of the Capitol Grill by the Galleria. They stock a few bottles of Papa's Pillar. Go buy and have a shot. And if you see me there as Chica, because I do hang out Capitol Grilled semi often. If you see me there, I will buy you a shot of Papa's p I L A R, which, by the way, Papa earnest himingway. P LR was the name of his boat, and I think it was the name of his second wife. I think it was the name of the second wife. And I don't know if he sunk the boat because of
the second wife. I'm not gonna get near here, near there, but it's a wonderful, wonderful drink. Rum is the way to go, certainly in twenty twenty four. Birthdays are fun because you hear from people, especially if you're on social media. Oh we need to get together, Let's go
out for lunch, Let's go out for dinner. Sho a lot of You can gain a lot of waiter on your birthday, man, especially as I talked about last last hour, you're getting I'm getting all these emails from all the restaurants that I sign up for for their affinity program, just like redeem this for your free dessert. And I don't even eat a talk. I don't even I hardly eat dessert at restaurants, But now forcing me to come
in if you buy an entree, come get your free dessert. Did so I'm gonna I'm gonna pass on that, but anyway, thanks for the wishes. We continue the Super Bowl scub it up. This is one week from actually eight days from right now as we're doing the show, Las Vegas is the place to be. I will be in Las Vegas. Do not know if I'm going to the actual game as yet, but the Vegas is just going to be just Craig Cray. I will say that, how do you
watch the Super Bowl? And I'm just talking, not talking about Okay, you turn on CBS at five point thirty in the afternoon on Sunday live stream. There's so many options right now, especially if you're out and about live streaming, Paramount Plus and now for the first time this year EVA not only
CBS but also Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon, also owned by the same company at Paramount the Kids channel is hosting a live, family friendly version of the event and it's got some cool graphics with SpongeBob SquarePants, the cast there door, the explore, they got it's the meat commentary. I've actually they do this before now for the Super Bowl. Nickelodeon, over the past two or three years they have shown one or two games playoff games, I believe, with really
fun graphics and I'm telling you it, it's entertaining. Every time there's a touchdown, they slime the end zone. It's really intelligently done, and they're doing it this first time. It will be the Super Bowl, the whole, the whole, different set of cameras and everything. You can obviously watch it on CBS, CBS coming up Murder, she wrote you, and then you can stream it a lot of live streaming services, YouTube with live TV. It does anybody for all the new cord cutters out there, because I've
given you a last hour you can go back. Podcast is a lot of TV manufacturers have sales because this is a big time of year, one of the biggest time of the year for new television sales. So we're having a Super Bowl part you gotta come watch. That's just part of the equation. You've got the you've got the device. Now you need a distribution outlet of what the show on your device. Are you gonna go with cable here in the Houston area, you got Comcast, Inxvinity. Are you gonna go?
Well, I'm not never a big satellite fan, but now you're gonna go streaming YouTube with live TV. Man, it's up to seventy three bones per month. Man. When that came out, what was that? It was in the forties. Now it's seventy three dollars per month. Who says cutting the cord is cheap? Run a Hulu with live TV seventy seven dollars per month. Direct TV stream not the satellite DirecTV is direct TV stream eighty dollars per month. You can watch the Super Bowl for free? Well kind of
you do? You have to buy an indoor digital antenna. A lot of people you may have that right now if you're so fed up by prices. There is such a thing as free TV. You see, kids built a chair, Uncle Garfi's got way back time, there used to be this thing where television was free. It was over the year broadcast, and first it was in black and white, and then there was something called VHF, and then it was UHF channels two through thirteen VHF, and then you go to
the ultra high frequency. You had to go above thirteen and you physically had to get out of your chair and walk up to the TV and turn the knobs there were I was the original remote control when my parents said, hey, man, go turn to ABC. Okay, walk up. Still happens all of the in this obviously it's a broadcasting rule FCC, it's a law.
But all of the local broadcasting. Okay. If you're in Houston where I am right now, you got Channel two, you got Channel eleven, you got Channel thirteen, you've got Fox twenty six, you've got PBS Channel eight, and you've got a whole slew of Spanish speaking. You've got Univision, Telemundo and all these others. They are broadcasting right now for free. You do need a digital antenna. There are some TVs with built in digital ten tens. If not, you can go get some for I don't know,
maybe ten fifteen, twenty dollars. I tell you got a radio shack. But a last say, I would date myself on that one too. You can watch it on a mobile the NFL Plus mobile app subscription seven bucks a month, all right, may not be too bad if you're a football fan, could be worth it. And is it worth tuning in to watch Usher? I'm excited for Usher. I'm a big Usher. I'm a pimp
for Rusher. He is good. He's doing the halftime show Reeba McIntyre doing the national anthem post malone through in America the Beautiful, And there is an odd sheet of everything Taylor Swift, from what color her lipstick will be red? What color is she gonna wear of Travis kelcey shirt or jewelry with his number eighty seven on it? To what color top is she going to be wearing when she gets off the plane. I'm not kidding you. I'm not
even going through that stuff. I'm not ragging on it. I think it is a I think it really is a love story. People need to get off the whole. I'm sick of the Taylor Swift thing. What she has done for football in viewing and bringing it to a new audience and crowd. Absolutely applaud hands up. I think it is whether it's made up romance or
whatever it is, I think it's cute and I think it's sweet. I wish I had a check who would see would come to all my radio broadcast wearing and I love garf shirt and applaud me in dance and do all that stuff. I do not so yay for Taylor Swift, yea for Travis Kelsey. By the way, I will give you my super Bowl pick next week. And I know what I'm leaning towards right now. All right, We're gonna take a break. When we come back, I will tell you about
some of the camp I love. The technology of health. Duff TV shows are broadcast in football, game sports are broadcasts and really neat stuff that CBS is doing your phone calls seven one three two one two five nine five oh
oh. And also speaking of streaming, I'm going to give you something I have obsessed with, my streaming pick of January and now February coming up here on the High Tech Textan Show. This portion of the long running High Tech Text Show brought to you by Thank you so much to US Coins and jewel Love US coins and Jewelry. And I just don't say that, man. I mean, you know, when I put my mind in my mouth and my brand and my words behind it, I hang out with these with companies.
I know the owners. I will personally make a call on behalf of any of my listeners. Hey man, long time listen to our show. You know, make them a deal. US Coins and Jewelry been there for gosh, three decades or so, started by their father, but now Kenny and Matt Duncan they head up a large team. Great. It's so fun to walk through their store, which is continuing to grow. It is on it Katie Freeway right at Voss next to a Shell station. It is big,
easy to get to. But if you have coin, if you're a coin collector, a New miss smithist, a new mismit dot coin collect and you've got tons of coin just sitting there doing nothing, why don't you bring them in there? Because they will pay you cash. For some reason, you want to buy some coins like class you know, old style United States, Buffalo Nichols and pennies, and they got that too. Also it's called jewelry too, and that's why I'm sporting right now. What is it?
Oh, I don't know. It's about eighteen minutes after the hour. According to my rolex that I got. They have pre owned rolexes, which is I mean, they have a lot of them too, women's jewelry, tennis bracelets, trading cards. Also, it's kind of an all in one fund shop. But you can trust these guys a lot of security, so don't worry about going in and bringing in a lot of your viable stuff that will give you a free quote on pretty much anything that you have. Go check
it out. Tell me you heard it on the Michael Garfield Show. US coins and Jewelry dot com. You don't even need to be in used and you can go on their website and you can still trust these folks. They are very really good phone number. You should know it right now after twenty eight plus years if you have any questions or calls or salutations seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh. Doing some streaming right now,
And obviously streaming is the technology that so many of us shoes. We're cutting the cord. A few things in the world of streaming right now. I'm watching I boring January, the past two weeks of January, and I found something on Hulu. Actually, let me go back. I signed up for Hulu. Talk about here's a deal of the year Hulu, which I believe is owned by Disney. I don't have Hulu plus TV this, I just have the Hulu. I subscribed ninety nine cents a month. I think that
was it, and it was a Christmas special. If you listen to the show I told you about it, anybody could have done it. So I'm paying ninety nine cents a month. You can't beat that anyway. I'm playing around in Hulu. I'm like, yeah, what's what's cool? I started watching The Bear. I've seen two episodes. I just I just did not get into The Bear, and it won a lot of awards, I think at the Emmy's not long ago, but I found one that I'm just in
all. I'm on season I just finished season two, started the final season three. Only Murders in the Building, anyone, anyone hear of this calum you ever heard of it? Only Murders in the Building? It is. It stars Steve Martin Martin Short, which are two of the just unbelievable iconic classic comedians, and Selena Gomez, which I'm still wondering why they put Selena Gomez in there. I mean, I like Selena Gomez, but whatever.
It's a it's a comedy, but it's it is written so well and the playoff between the three lead actors, especially Martin Short and Steve Martin, it is snappy and it is it's it's funny and it's you know, I don't I didn't watch I know, I know it's been around for a few years, but I haven't watched it because the word murder turned me off. I don't do horror, scary movies or TV shows of any any kind of what
if you know me, I don't deal scary things. But it's not that there is murder one per season and they're trying to sleuth it out of see what's going on. And it's also about a podcast too. These three people have a podcast and so they probably you know, stole some of my few funny ideas that I do on my radio show, which is in turned into a podcast. But that is my jam for right now. If anybody else has something else for me to watch, when I finish Only Murders in the
Building season three, and then that's it. That's all they've made. I'll probably finish that in the next week or so and then feel free to let me know that is on Hulu. I also have Amazon Prime Video, and I have Amazon Prime Video and it's actually called Prime Video. Odds are you have Prime Video and you may not even know it because it is included when you have Amazon Prime And there's a lot of people in this world who have Amazon Prime. Oh, by the way, you get an app called Amazon
Music that you could listen to podcast and music and whatever. And it also comes with a TV streaming service called Prime Video, which as we know, has the rights to Thursday NFL football games, which started last ye past two years, one hundred and thirty nine dollars a year for Prime. You damn straight, I better get some extra stuff, and you damn straight, I'm gonna watch some things on Prime. I got Prime not because about five years
ago, not because I wanted to shop on Amazon. It's because I wanted to watch something on their streaming service. It was The Marvelous Missus Masel which is not on anyway. It's not currently airing because the season wrapped up after five seasons, but it's still on there. Love that What a way. Big news in the world of Amazon Prime as of last week starting January twenty ninth, which was what was that? This is this past Monday. They
are now showing advertisement. It used to be no ads. Ad free streaming services are officially a thing of the past. People. Amazon injected the Prime Videos movies and TV shows with ads as of this past Monday. Now, if you don't want it, you're gonna have to pay three extra dollars a month for ad free videos on top of the one hundred and thirty nine dollars a year membership that you already played for Frime. With this, this means
the five largest streaming services in America all have advertisements right now. Amazon pretty much followed the footsteps of Netflix, Disney Plus Max, and Paramount Plus. They all introduced ads in the last few years. Streaming services once offered a really strong alternative to cable, but the landscape out there, it's becoming so much more competitive, and they've all resorted to being just like their ancestors. The subscriber models for streaming services, if you think about it, they didn't
last long. We maybe past the golden age of streaming where companies were offering low price subscriptions for ad free premium content. Every streamer has ads now because they're all so big and they can't really grow anymore and they need to make more revenue in some other way. That's what that means introducing advertising. I saw some industry analysis that Prime could add an additional I don't want to get this wrong. Was it five billion dollars a year just for ads? Because
there's eyeballs? Prime Video has two hundred million subscribers now. Before you start calling in and yell at me. There is one major streaming service that currently does not have ads, and that is Apple TV Plus. Apple TV Plus, which I do not have, is the one major streaming services that currently does not have ads. But it's also one of the smallest streaming services. It has just twenty five million subscribers, again compared to what I said.
Prime Video has two hundred million, and Netflix has a hell of a lot more than that. I think a large reason that Apple TV Plus can remain ad free is that it's a perk that you get with Apple TV, so it really doesn't have to be profit. But then again, that same was thing that the same was it for Prime Video, but Prime Video just flipped. Are you going to cancel your Prime Video in this case just because it shows ads? No, you shouldn't, because I don't want to pay three
dollars much as thirty six dollars a month more. We are used to advertisements. And I'm gonna say it again. I always use this analogy, and I know my bosses love it too. The reason you're listening to this radio show right now in KPRC nine to fifty am, even on iHeartRadio, it does not cost you a lick. Do you know that, my friends? Why because we are advertisers supported by the way this portion of the show brought
to you by US coins and jewelry. You see, you just endured a three second little advertising hit for the sake of getting two hours a beautiful, free, hilarious content. Yes, I know, we take commercial breaks about four times an hour, but we give you a great idea of where to shop, we give you news breaks, and then we continue to regular programming. That's a business model. That's an advertising model that we have been accustomed
to since the advent of television and radio and pretty much publishing. Also, you know TV was free if you go back to the nineteen seventies or you know, listen. When I grew up, TV was free. There was no cable. Generally, it was over the air, which I talked about the last out last segment. And what you did in exchange for watching this great content from everything from NFL to Gilligans, Islond to Brady Bunch, everything
that we grew up with, you endured commercials. A thirty minute show generally is twenty two minutes of content eight minutes of commercials. That's the rule. When I went to radio, television and film class in school. That's what you sacrifice. Radio always over the air radio always and free still is free over the air radio in your car. Turn a nine fifty AM right now. You're listening to me. F r ee. You're gonna hear some commercials. Okay, cool, got it. We understand that the only business model
that really kind of perplexed me was publishing newspapers. When newspapers were a thing. That was a double based revenue model because number one, you had to subscribe, and you still have to subscribe to a newspaper. But oh, by the way, guess what, There's advertisements in the newspaper. So there's a revenue stream on top of a revenue stream. The world is different, man. I'll tell you what would I take a different Would I go a
different route if I was studying something in college. That's That's something that continue to ask and something that parents ask me. Michael, would you recommend my kids get into broadcast media. It's a long answer that sometimes change and sometimes go that. Sometimes say yes and sometimes I say no. There are factions in the broadcast here. I'd say absolutely. Go in sales is a good
one. If you could be a programmer and if you can get a job with one of the big streamers, a really good job of a content makers. I'm like that, Yeah, I think it is. But trying to be a radio host or trying to be a TV anchor right now, that is not what it used to be whatsoever? And we come back. I don't know. I hope is it my last radio show? I love my
job. Guys, if my bosses are listening. Thirty minutes ago, left of the High Tech Texting Show, don't go anywhere, Happy to answer emails or respond to all of your beautiful post comments on all my social media which you could find high Tech Texts and Hi g h T E C h T E x A N. Michael Garfield is the name. I hope you are doing well. On a non football weekend Saturday, I did a lot of
Super Bowl content today. Gave you some of the new ways to watch the super Bowl, not just in front of your CBS television broadcast here, but also paramount and your streaming and how much all these iam talk a lot about streaming too, because that is indeed the new way too well watch television. It ain't cheap, people, it is getting much more expensive I saw this. You know what, I'm not going to talk about you. People say, hey, Michael, what's your thoughts on Apple's Vision Pro. I'm no
comment. It's incredibly I'm out. Okay, here's a comment. It's very expensive. It was just released yesterday, thirty five hundred dollars. It's a spatial computing virtual reality, big heavy goggle that you put on your face. Apple did not invite me to play with it, and so I don't know, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Next question seven, one, three, two, two, five, nine to five. Oh, just what we need? We need another AI powered shopping assistant? Is as if Alexa
and Siri weren't enough. I'm I'm going to ask Alexa to ask Siri to ask Jarvis, to ask Watson, to ask Claude, to ask Jasper, to ask Einstein and task chat GPT. If Rufous is a good name for a new AI powered shopping assistant, because guess what Amazon? Rufus apparently is the next thing Amazon released something called Rufous. I have no clue where chakra
con is. That is designed to enhance Amazon's mobile shopping experience so they can go through its extensive product catalog and custom reviews and community questions and answers and info across the web. So if you ask this assistant, you say, Rufus, what should I consider when buying running shoes? Rufus is apparently conversational. This is a new day. This is very early days for generative artificial intelligence. May not get it exactly right. But who comes up with these
names? I mean, I want you to think about this. Siri was out there a long time. What is Syria a girl or a guy? And you know what, it really doesn't matter. Alexa generally a female's name, Jarvis generally a guy's name. Watson from IBM. They must knowing that when they release this, when Google, when Microsoft, when Amazon, when Apple, when they sit there in the marketing meetings and they said, we need to come up with them because this name cannot change, and they're trying
to make it like a real person. Listen, mcintish is the name of computer iPhone the name of a phone. That's just a that's a product name. They're trying to make these virtual assistants people because there's voices, they talk back to us, which is why they come up with I think real person names Watson, Jarvis, Alexa, Siri, Claude rufus. In this case, I'd love to be in the room. I mean how they literally must nowadays they must ask g chat, GPT, what's a name for a special
assistant, A shopping a virtual shopping assistant? And it better stick because executive use. I hate using the word Alexa because all of your Amazon products are waking up right now. But let's just after four years, we're so used to hey Alexa, Hey Alexa, Hey Alexa. You know what Amazon says, we don't like that name. You know we're gonna, we're gonna, we're gonna call it Charles. Well, we're already accustomed to using that.
You better I mean you're creating a character. You're creating a Charlie Brown. I mean when Charles Schurtz came up with Charlie Brown and what the nineteen late fifties or the early sixties. I mean, that thing's been around three generations. Now you better come up with root is rufus, it rufus, the dufis. I have? How many do we need? Like on Samsung, Sam Samsung has one on his phone called Bixby. I am a Samsung Pampa I've had. All I use is pretty much Samsung phones. Not once have
I used Bixby. There's a button on here that I don't I don't even use a lot of this stuff personally. The only the main reason, the main question I ask my virtual assistants. And I do have Amazon, and I do have Google. I got several Google nests and a little little video thing in my kitchen, and I've got one next. I got one to my bathroom. I've got one next to my bet. Really, the only
thing I ask is what's the weather today? I wake up in the morning, and before I run, I want to know how to dress, and so I will say, hey, Google, what's the weather. I will say, Alexa, what's the what's the weather? Oh? Good, now they see I just woke up my Google. But by talking right now. But that's how I really. I don't ask for what's my schedule. I don't ask what the what the odds of a football game are? I don't ask what the square root of sixteen is. I just asked the weather.
I'm just I'm a simple person. I'd like to figure it. I'll type things in almost even before I ask, right now, am I og? You tell me use the og phone right now. It's seven one three two one two five nine five oh AI generated voice mimicking celebrities and politicians. It's it's it's making it harder for the FCC to fight robo calls. There are AI generated voices that are robo calls that when you pick them up, they sound like celebrity voices, and the FCC they're now saying it's against the law.
Who would you freak out with most if somebody if you answered a call, and who would be on the line, Mick Jagger, Trump, Biden, who would it be? Then you find out it is it is not them. Matthew Maha, Matthew mccam hey. There's a voice that is incredibly distinguishable. My buddy of mine in Dallas, kind of a comedian dude. He does he literally he's got an account called fake McConaughey, very close to Matthew McConaughey. One if they should say they actually but it's not AI generating,
it's actually him. I mean, where's I mean rich Little Now? This is he was the first AI celebrity mimicking voice. Dude, if you think about it. So, I don't know if you've got some of those, but you know it's at the FC. I'll tell you what. It's election, election year coming up. You're gonna be getting robo calls. And if you think it's Trump in the line, odds are it may not be him. But the SEC does need to crack down on some of this stuff.
And I think they they I think they finally are. Oh. Also this, I raise your hand if you're a Comcast A user, sadly I am. And it's costed an arm and a leg. But you know, it's always been kind of taking me off about misleading ads. If you've seen over the past several months, Comcast has been talking about their Exfinity ten G network. Have you seen this thing? Exfinity's ten G network. Guess what,
They're discontinuing it because it's misleading. I like this. The National Advertising Review Board, there's a panel that found the term ten G network could mislead consumers into thinking that comcasts selling broadband services offer much faster speeds than current generation networks. You see truth in advertising people, This is why you listen to BA. I always tell you the truth. I always tell you the facts. It always bugged me. It's like how are they getting around that?
They said, screw it, you know, because we're on five G right now. How did they just automatically skip six, seven, eight to nine. We're already on ting at and t t that to it. Before five G was even here, we were still in the fourth generation of cell services away. Apple said they had the first five G, but they called it five GE for some reason, five generation equivalency like that. Come on. I know, listen, I'm a marketing person, but at some point stop
potentially misleading people. I know you got to get a hold on some things. But what are you gonna do? All right, I tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna take the final break here at the radio show this week. We'll come back, we'll wrap things up. I got some
car reviews and anything else. Final birthday wishes right here on the High Tech Text and Show final few minutes as we wrap up the HTT show with MG that's High Tech Text and Michael Garfield, callum, thank you, Thank all the boys in the back we were pushing the buttons keeping us on, and thanks for everybody to the other the fun wishes right now, Sip it a little of Papa's pilar rum little birthday drink. We turn another year older and we just don't care. As long as the voice and the hairs there,
I am all good. Won't give out the phone number because I get some things to yap about before we wrap it up here. But if you do want to listen to this again, to your heart's extent, it's on podcasts, iHeartRadio, Google, Spotify, wherever award winning great radio programs can be reheard and reheard again. I really do enjoy reviewing and talking about technology products, devices and streaming services, and cookies and girl Scout things good cookies and
and uncrustables and everything else I you apped about today. Cars, trucks, vehicles are certainly a very big part of what I do. For fifteen sixteen years I have on a weekly basis, I have test driven manufactured direct from manufacturers. I do not these It's unpaid, it's my thoughts. I do
dealerships. Do not you know a sponsor endorse this show. I'm a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which means I know that a lot of the manufacturers up in Detroit and where have you they ship cars or I'm driven cars down and they can. I can rag on them, I can diss them, I can love them, I can anything I want. Past few weeks, I've been in some really neat ones. Three weeks ago, what was I am? I was in a Cadillac. I think I talked about
this, but just kind of reviewing. January twenty twenty four, Escalat Cadillac Escalade Platinum. If you want a monster of an suv, I'm talking probably one of the biggest vehicles on the road. Thing is nice. It will cost you about maybe what your first house cost you way back in the day. As as it was driven everything on it it was one hundred and twenty one thousand dollars. But other than that, it's a fine, fine vehicle. Despite how big and large it is, it just rides so smooth.
It's got every piece of technology that you can actually think of. I love the ar instrument panel right through. If you you know the instrument panels, the instrument display, you look right through your steering wheel, I mean you see your speed doometer, your own dometer. You can flip a switch and it's got a front facing camera on the front of the grill and when you're doing some navigation directions will actually like cartoons pop up and tell you to turn
right, turn left, start blinking. It's it's augmented reality. I think that's one of the really neat things. It's got a ton of different screens, the touchscreens. It's it's really really nice. That was the Cadillac Escalade Platinum. If you've got the money and the means, feel free to do that other spectrum. Two weeks ago, I had the Subaru Ascent A S C E N T. Don't sleep on subar Us. They really they are
very strong vehicles. That's that that will They're great off road. I kind of joke that Suberu is the official vehicle of Idaho or Colorado or Utah because there's so many people out in those you know states that utilize them because they can get through snow and if there's dirt and there's some small hills or even some mountains that they really take a lock and keep on ticking. This is nice. It was a small SUV, nice hatchback, all wheel drive.
You know, other neat accruiterments over there in terms of the technology that you know, their screens are getting bigger too. It almost I think it has got an eleven and a half inch multimedia navigation system, really good sound. But this was as driven forty eight thousand dollars forty eight thousand dollars anything. I always give the price because whatever you know, mode you're in, it's good for good for families. But you can get certainly two and a half
of these for the price of the Cadillac Platinum, which was nice. And this week I am d if you ever if you heard a big loud engine zoom passed you, if you live near me, or maybe you're driving around the Galleria or wherever. I was playing around the twenty twenty three Dodge Charger super B Bee as inzz B. It's the special edition. This thing was. It's blue. What was the color of blue? Blue being blue exterior paint, and it kind of had a picture of a B superimposed decal on
the hood. And it's got a scat pack. It was four hundred and eighty horsepower six point four leader V eight SRT with street racing technology. It's a HEMA engine. You turn this thing on. I woke up my neighbors. This is big. It's a four door car. Yeah, you may have to be a certain age group to do this. I mean, I don't know, there's a lot of it's a good collectible car. This is you know, obviously Dodge. At some point they're going to get away from
all of these gas power vehicles. They're going to go to electric. I don't know how they could duplicate the sound over that. It's a beautiful big Hemi engine going. But it's a fun drive, especially because the technology in there. It's got the Street Racing Technology SRT, so it's got timers, it's got so many gauges that can measure you know, how fast you're going in a quarter mile and doing everything very fun as priced with sixty three thousand
dollars. This next week, I'm getting a really nice SUV from Mercedes Bins. I will give you that up to update. But I have done this for fifteen years or so. So if you are in the mode for car shopping and you just want an unbiased opinion, whether you want an suv, whether you want a twudor sports car at electric meat or a hybrid, feel free to ask me or pop me a note. Michael at high Tech textan dot com with that I did see this General Motors. They're actually starting a
push back at repushing. Let me put this way on hybrids. You know, remember the Chevy Vault. Years after GM discontinued the Chevy Bolt, and they kind of like left hybrids in the rearview mirror because they were going to go all in on evs electric vehicles. GM's kind of putting it in reverse. It'll again start offering plug in hybrids that run on gas and electric mode. The CEO Mary Barras, she actually said this a few days ago.
So there's still planning to phase out they're gas cars, gas guzzling cars in the United States by twenty thirty five, but hybrids now are going to be the stepping stone. And the reason being, as we wrap it up for about a minute or two, the electric vehicle rush has not hanned out. They're not. There are key dealers in GM around the country that asked them to start sending eyebridgs because the demand for electric vehicles it just hasn't been as
electric has expected. I mean, this is the government incentives and the automakers are betting big on battery power cars. The consumers really continue, they're not running out for them. I think mini drivers are put off by EV's priciness. They're also like me, they're worried about the lack of charging stations. Listen. Ev sales grew fifty two percent last quarter. This is for per Cox Automotive and mini car makers slash prices and the edy production goals is unsold
cars. They began collecting dust right there in the lots. But hybrid's, however, they've been selling like hotcakes. And GM's biggest competitor, Toyota, they're raking in reverord procket record prockets record profits. That's easy for you to shave because say, because I don't know, maybe I had a little too much of papas pele ark rum. Because we are getting ready to end up this show. Hey, listen, I do thank you for tuning in it.
Listen, it's not I'm happy to actually work on my birthday and it's so nice and so many of you out there to continue to send me wishes because I've killed almost a third of my life here on this radio show on KPRC nine to fifty am. For everybody who's been a part of this show, including Callum Red, Eddie Martini, Mark Sherman, Brian Erickson, I thank you for keeping me on. See you next week Vegas Super Bowl. Let me know if you're going out there, because it is party time.
The name is Garth, a year older and less wise, and the show is oh B
