So Michael Garfield has something you might want. Texas. Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texan. Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio. Add now your high Tech Texan Michael Garfield. The last March Saturday. It is the high Tech

Texans Show. Happy to read twenty four March madness. A number of things going on. How about this sports weekend in the city of Houston. If you are listening from age down right now? Gorgeous weather. We've got the Texas Children's used to open the University of Cougars and the Elite eight. We have got the Astros that just kicked off the rockets are doing well. Can there any it? Can anything else go wrong? Actually? Better? Well, one thing may not be the greatest week. And I'm gonna give you

a little behind the scenes baseball, a little baseball. If for some reason I sound a little different, Is this okay? And I need to check callum, is okay if I give my hip out, if I talk about my health, is this okay? I'm gonna sound a little weird, and I probably do. And as a guy with a sexy radio voice and of course a sexy TV face, awso yeah whatever. Probably not the best I've ever sounded in the twenty two years I've been here on the radio. Earlier

this week, I went through a procedure. That's it's I don't know, it's semi common. Many of you may have gone through it. But I had deviated septum surgery is it? Is it surgery or is it a procedure? I don't know. The surgery is a very strong word, and I, in my fifty plus years of life, have never had surgery, and so I'm very cautious to use the word surgery so I can keep my streak

going. But I was put out. I was sleeping for the first time of my life, you know, really put out with like this IV and I woke up, I don't know, an hour and a half two hours later, and uh, this is what I saund like. I have got stints in my nose and it's not a sexy thing. It is not as as any. But maybe you guys could talk with you know, for twenty two years, I have talked to you through issues. I've answered questions for you. I've I've given you know, almost half my life for you people.

Somebody freaking help me out? Is this gonna get better? Am I gotta smell better? Am I gonna breathe better? Because you know my self, which is my nose. It was just not straight. This is not a nose job, I swear. But I tell you what, if this is even anywhere near what a nose job feels like, I am never getting another piece of my body worked on. It was. The procedure was okay, I guess, But it's been three days, I guess since I'm trying

to get through this thing and it's it's a little pressure. I need to get these stints out of my nose. It's tough to breathe. I've got a kind of a headache. But other than that, hey man, I am here for you. I'm not one to complain. I am actually one to complain. Who the hell am I talking about? Seven one three, two one two five nine five. Oh. They told me when I started radio that some of the factors of people turning away, turning off the radio.

The number one factor of people turning off your radio is bad reception. If you're listening over the ear, and it happens a lot on AM radio too, and if you hear a lot of static, people just turn the radio. I have to assume if you don't like your the person's voice, or maybe you don't like the content or the topic, that's going to do it too. Hopefully you guys can suck it up with me. You could still tell it as me. It is Michael Garfield, and I'm gonna see

if I can make it through these next two hours. I cannot. You know, the killer for me is I cannot exercise for two weeks. That to me, when they told me this is like I had a debate the ROI over here. I mean, is it worth getting this done so I don't get a sinus infection anymore and I can breathe these here? And what I man? I can't two weeks? I mean I could walk, but walking does not exercise for me. I mean no running, no biking, no just it's it's it's tough. I can't get my heart rate up now

going to the gym. That that is going to be a tough one. And so that's that's the craziest thing for me. It's weird, but we do continue. I will give you the phone number. I mean, you can give me your war stories of what is the craziest surgery you've ever been through? And hopefully you you give me some uh uh some some great outlooks and out then takes on the bright side. How maybe one day it's gonna be better. Seven one three two one two, five nine five. I'm

looking at these guys. It's it's my It's me. It's just the voice is a little bit weird, folks. We do have a number of things to talk about. There is a new Android update for all you older Android phone You're gonna get AI finally on your Android phones. Uh, we've got a little Apple lawsuit. I'll tell you what that is. And uh are you I want to talk about the solar eclipse. Are you gonna go outside and watch the solar clips? There's there's there's it's not hard to go see

it. It's coming up and about it's on uh Monday, April eighth, all across well, it's gonna be I have a swath across the United States, but it's gonna be very, very heavily concentrated in Texas. In the Houston area, we're gonna get a partial of it. But if for all my listeners up in Dallas, my parents, you're gonna get almost day a full eclipse. Is anybody driving anywhere that Monday early afternoon so they can get four and a half minutes of darkness, which generally we get about what eight

nine to ten hours of darkness every single night. So I don't know. I will give you some apps actually to help you track that. I will take your phone calls, you know the phone number. I have a review of the latest vehicle. I was driving latest vehicle I was because I do reviews for cars and trucks. I was at a beautiful beast. I was in a brand new twenty twenty four land Rover Defender Outbound. It was the outbound version. It's a matted gray Man. This thing was big. It

is so big. It had a retractable ladder accessory on its side. So if I wanted to climb up to the top of it and put some stuff on the roof luggage tract, it had a ladder on there. That's how big it was. I will tell you if that's worth it is it worth the cost? And if you are looking for any type of vehicle, no matter what it is. So this is what I've done for fifty years. I have previewed almost a car or a vehicle every single week. That is a lot of that stuff. I have not paid for this, So I

do not give you a dealership. I just give you my thoughts on the manufacturers as they let me drive these things for one week at a time. That and other fun stuff. We will get to a little sports for a u Astros fan. Rangers fans, they started off well for your world champion. By the way, there is a world champion Major League Baseball team here in the state of Texas. It is up in Arlington. Do have a

lot of listeners up there, so I do thank you for that. April comes around, and by the way, real quickly, Happy Early Easter Friday. Yesterday was good Friday? Was it a good Friday? If you are off of work. I still don't really understand the whole good Friday Easter thing. It's just because I don't really celebrate it. All I know is Monday one of my favorite days of the year. When Easter candy is on sale, and we will go through some of the best and worst Easter candy,

which I do every single year. Michael is the name, Michael Garfield. The little stuff up, A little deviated septum a surgery. Hopefully we will heal and I will sound myself at some point soon. You can find me at high tech tex dot com and we will be back after this. Don't go anywhere. Just like that big boy said, it is called the High Tech textan show. Oh, we do so much more than talk about technology. We talk about life, fund consumer lifestyle, we talk about sports,

We talk about surgeries. I do excuse the way my voice is coming out. I had a little procedure on the O the nose. It is not a nose job. And if there's any indication of this is what surgery feels like, because this is I guess, deviated septum surgery. Is it a surgery or such a procedure? What's the difference? Could someone do a quick Google search, calum could somebody can? We want to have one of our crack staff. The difference between a procedure or surgery or is a surgery a

subset of a procedure. Technically, I guess it is because this is the first in my life surgery I have, which is I guess it's a good thing for some guy in his fifties. This first time I've really ever been out under anesthesia for a while, and it, uh, it was. It was a good sleep, but a little pain and the and the schnas right now and hopefully that will be gone. All right, enough of my hip, But you really don't need to do that. Happy Easter to those

I know there's a it's it's it's Easter is about It's about food. I guess right, you got an Easter Easter brunch tomorrow. And uh, I can't taste a lot right now because I've got well again. I have to talk about my nose, and I apologize for this. I have these stints. They're like straws up my up my nose to keep my passageways open of my septum or my and they're in there till like Tuesday, and so I'm stuffed up and then you can't really taste. So all the yummy stuff that

eat on Easter brunch morning you can't taste. And is what is a traditional Easter brunch, I ham, which I don't eat eggs. I assume I love eggs mombosas. That's great. By the way, tomorrow you do not have any plans. I know sadly where I will not be because it's not I don't really since I can't eat tasted, what what am I doing? But I would be at the Capitol Grill. Shout out to Steve Jost, a good friend. He is a managing partner partner of the Capitol Grill in

the Gallery area West Timor and Sage. Every year, they just they just pack it in. They just pack it in and they've got the ham, the eggs, Benedict, they got stuff for kids too. You do have to make reservations and so you do have a time for that. And by the way, he eats something for me, eat something for me. This is actually a great way to diet for me. If it's kind of like to have COVID. When I had COVID, what time or twice I couldn't

taste and I couldn't smell. And if you've ever had that since, or a sensationless of not tasting or not smelling, it is, without a doubt, the greatest diet you can go on wagovy ozimpic, whatever these drugs are called. They have nothing on losing your taste, your sense of smelling, your sense of taste, because quite simply, if you cannot taste anything that goes in your mouth, anything, why in the world are you wasting on

our calories. There's no reason to eat a Reese's peanut butter cup. There's no reason to have a steak. There's no reason to having it bourbon or anything none, because the only thing that goes in your mouth it better be fuel, it better be protein. It just keeps you going. It's phenomenal. If I was a doctor and if I wanted to weight loss drug, I would remove somebody's sense of smell and sense of taste. That is the ultimate way to actually lose weight. That is what's going on with me right

now. So I don't know, maybe it's actually it is a blessing. In discs seven one, three, two, one, two, five, nine five, we will talk about Easter candy and I'm having a little poll over here. If you want to find me high tech Texan on Twitter, Yes, Twitter threads. If I want to find me on e I G H I g H T e c h T e x a N. There is no dispute. You know people will have these. You could tell me your favorite candy because they are going to go on sale on Monday fifty percent

off. Generally I wait till later in the week when they go to ninety percent off. There is no dispute, and I don't want people calling it the greatest candy. Note of man is races. It's as simple as that. Now, listen, I know there's about twenty eight different races. Is from Easter eggs to whatever. Reeses is number one, and Peeps is the dead awful last. Where where do you seed jelly beans? Is that? Is that? Like? Are they at three or four seed? All they

are is flavored? Sure, so this will be on sale Monday, and for some reason you do see one a hell of deal on Reese's that you could make sure that you pop me a note or I'll post it at high tech texts And Hi g h T E c h T e x a N. Should we talk about something android people? Which is me? This just so the latest and greatest Android foam The Samsung Galaxy S twenty four, the S twenty four plus the S twenty four Ultra. They came out earlier this

year, and one of their features it's called Galaxy AI. Of course it's AI because those are the two sexiest letters in the freaking world right now, Artificial induligence, whatever. And there are some neat features that I am that I have used on the Galaxy S twenty four AI, but it was only for the Galaxy S twenty four. A lot of you people didn't upgrade to the S twenty four. A lot of you people out there may have the Galaxy S twenty three. They have the Galaxy Z Full five, the Z

Flip five. You could use some of the AI features. Guess what, True to its promise, Sam Suck started rolling out the upgrade, so those older phones do get the new software with Galaxy AI. The new upgrade it is the update. It's called the one UI six point one. Not that you need to know, but if you see an upgrade to your older phone, you may want to download it. Pretty good features, one of which

I love is called Circle to search anything on your phone. If there is a photo on your phone, if there is a word on your phone, you swipe up and it kind of freezes your phone, freezes whatever's on the screen. You take your finger and you circle it and you'll see a circle just kind of come up. It will search on the web whatever it is. It'll look for the photo, it'll research. It's pretty good. Little use of artificial intelligence. They've got Live Translate. There's an interpreter thing in

the there's a chat assist inside samsud messages. You can transcribe and translate your voice recorder. A lot of stuff that now is available for the S twenty three lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold five and the Z Flip five. Also has some security patches for the older Samsung flaship phones. So I thought that's pretty cool. That is neat. Nope, not talking about iPhone at this

moment. When we come back and the other side, Apple has a little interesting lawsuit going on, has nothing to do with the phone, has something to do with an air tag. I get a lot of questions about that air tag. That's a little device that you can find your keys or attach it to your briefcase or if you happen to lose a kid or you know, put it on their collar or something. There is a lawsuit and there's Sapples being sued over the air tag's privacy. I'll give you every single thing

that you need to know about that. If not, I will give you a phone number if you've got to have questions, If you have a remedy for my I am on painkillers for my my nose issue over here, seven one three two five ozh tramadol. I'm just telling you everything about me right there. I don't like any type of drug or any type of medication. I doubt I'm not addicted to it. It's just if I could suck it up and go without it. And I did have to take a tramadol once

every twelve hours. It makes me tired. I don't like it. Man. I guess I could sell. Can I sell these things in the black market? If if, if I don't use it? No, I'm just kidding. I really am kidding. Well caught them not kidding, but I am kidding. I'm gonna go eBay that thing. You know the phone number. The name is Michael Garfield and this is called the High Tech Textan Show.

When we come back, I will tell you about those Apple air tags, everything you need to know about that lawsuit and your privacy, and we'll talk about that solar eclipse people. I have some apps for you to use so you can track it. Is it worth your time? Are you gonna stay in the Houston area, You're gonna travel a little bit more in Central Texas to get the whole experience of being in the dark. I will keep you on the dark until we come back and to the side. Getting a

few emails over here. Hey, Michael, did you end up going to Las Vegas for the first week of March Madness like you've done for twenty five years? Well, yes and no. You got to get the number right. This was my thirty fourth or thirty fifth year of me and the same nine guys going of college, guys going to March Madness. The very first weekend we were in Vegas. If you happen to rune into me, I saw a number of people from Houston coming up to me. I'm standing at

the Crabs tablee listen. I love talking to people. I love if you listen to me. It's an honor for you to even realize who I am and come up and you know, thank me for you know, my advice, or ask me what phone I'm wearing or what I'm driving this week. It's really, really cool, but people, God love you. Man. If I'm standing at the crabs table holding the dice, can you just give me a minute? You just give me, man, man, because you don't want to you don't want to ice me. Man, that happened.

I'm at the Where am I'm at the Venetian and and the table minimums are horrible now, man, minimum twenty five dollars. I have no clue what's happened to Vegas? So obviously I'm concentrating on this thing. And you know, I got some greenies out there on the past line and somebody comes up, is that the high tech taxan? And hey, how you doing? Can you give me a minute? Oh my gosh, no, no,

let me introduce my wife over here. I'm like, and I'm holding the dice and I've got you know, there's I got a table full of people waiting for me to throw the dice. There's a lot of money out there, and they're asked me a questions, say hey, you just did a police hold those They were nice enough and they held on And it turns out I seven right after they talked to me, So thank you not for doing that. But I did have fun in Las Vegas probably some of the best

weather. Weather in March in Vegas is always wonderful. Good food, good drink. Had some new restaurants Pete where we we watched one of the games. One't what so Thursdays and Fridays mornings because it's it's two hours earlier. We just sit there and we generally go to a sports bar for probably six straight hours and we just sit there and have some beer. We bet on the games, and you could bet on the apps right now we have you

have an app like like Caesars and MGM of apps. You don't even need to go to a betting window, so we could just bet end game if we wanted to. Found a great place called Happy Camper Keiza. It's in Fashion Show Mall, part of the Lettuce entertain You group and it's phenomenal, great dvs. Good vibe. It's got a retractable roof so on a great the roof was attracted because the weather was phenomenal and we were there probably six hours. Good apps, the pizza was awesome. They had tavern style little

Chicago style and that was fun. But I have you know, recommend going there if you want to have a little fun when to go to Vegas. I go. That was my that was my fourth month in a row of Vegas. I really should do a a guide to Las Vegas. I've done my show out there from so many times. But if you happen to be going out there, you need some tips. I am your guy seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh uh. You don't need to

track me because I generally tell you most everywhere I go. But when it comes to tracking and tracking people, privacy concerns are everywhere, and one of which is this Apple air tag. You know what These things are, the little tiny things about the size of a quarter, and it's a digital tracker and at listen. To be fair, Apple's not the only one who has these. I mean they did, They weren't even the first one to come out with it. The first one I think I remember was a company called

file t il e Uh. Samsung has one and they work on a very kind of a it's a bluetooth frequency And if I guess generally, the point is you could put these on your keychain, you could put them on your backpack, and you put them on your suitcase, and if you happen to lose it, or want to track anything like that, you can pull up an app and you can find it. People. However, they have been tracking other things. They have been tracking cars, they have been tracking people,

they have been tracking a number of other things. And now there is a class action lawsuit against Apple alleging that Apple didn't sufficiently resolve privacy issues raised by these air Tag trackers, which led to unwanted stalking and abuse. That was filed last year and it was given CORN approval to proceed earlier this month.

And it's saying that plaintive Suster suffered substantial injuries from people who abused this Bluetooth tracker, which cost all of twenty nine dollars in the ways the company didn't sufficiently work to address and Apples defended its work on air Tag since it came out twenty twenty one, and however it's not enough, I mean Apple

expected security concerns. There's no doubt remember in twenty twenty one when they announced Apples to the tracker, it features like unwanted tag detection and audible alerts, so about alert people when unexpected air tag was nearby. And then shortly after they were released, Apple Apple kind of upped its privacy measures by making the air tags unwanted Tag Detection alert occur at random times, so it started beeping and stuff. Yeah, the air tags are good. Listen, They're good

and bad. They're a blessing and a curse. People use them to find bikes and luggage and laptop bags. Some people even put them on their pets and the little kids. Apple does not recommend that, though. The larger question is we face is whether we're comfortable with these trackers hanging off all sorts of odds and ends in our lives. What does this mean for you? If you want to identify unwanted air tags, you can use something called the apples find My app on your iPhone. Android app has one too, to

detect if an unexpected air tag has been traveling with you recently. And you laugh about this. One of my very good friends found out that there was a nearby air tag in his car. Does not know where it went. I don't even know how he found it. He's got an Android. He turned on his Bluetooth and he'd hit fine my shirt off found a freaking Apple AirTag in his car. Listen, if you believe your safety is at risk, Apple advises you to contact the local law enforcement agency, which can work

with Apple. You gotta be careful with some of this stuff. This is the good and bad about technology. I love technology. I cover technology right and when this comes out, it's like, Okay, I see the point. I lose things all the time, Verger's my keys. But some times things like this can be used for different purposes than they were intended to. If anybody has any issues like this, I'd love you. Feel free to open phone lines to give me a shout seven to one three two one two

five nine five oh two point two five nine five oh. And you can tell me if if you've been tracked, if you've tracked somebody, feel free to disguise your voice like I am right now, just because I sound a little lied. But I have one of these. I don't have any I have a Samsung one and I'm pretty sure how it works. It's sitting. I have one, and I have it in my backpack. I don't take

my backpack a lot of places. However, when I travel, I will take my backwhack and backpack, and god forbid, I guess if I lose it, I will go to my Samsung phone and use the find my thing and find where it is. The batteries work for a quite a long time, and if you are prone to lose things, it's a it's a neat device. And again a number of different ones, Tile, Samsung, Apple, AirTag, they're out there too. You can get them on Amazon,

and they're relatively inexpensive. Let's just hope you use them and people use them for what they're supposed to be used for of just you know, finding things and so you don't get caught up in a Lossit like that. But anyway, you got something to yap about, I'd love to hear your stories about that. Two point two five nine to five V one more little segment this hour before a time it uh, this is you're gonna love this, I think for all you. Uh, if you think phones aren't expensive enough,

there are third party companies who actually take phones and they upgrade them. It's kind of like you know, you don't pep my ride. There's there's companies out there who pep my phones. And one of them just came out with a phone that costs upwards of ten thousand dollars. I'll tell you this story. They only made ninety nine of these things. But they made it in a shape of something very very interesting that I think is relatively ugly. Would

you pay for this? Uh? Again, some of the things that you know, I think I have fun with and to keep you updated what's going on in the world of consumer lifestyle. Michael Garfield is the name. Long running show here KPRC nine to fifty am. We gonna be right back. Got about ten more minutes in the first hour of the HTT show. Michael is my name. Feel free to call me Garf that has plum read over there seven one three two one two five nine five zero for you're headed out

to Memorial Park. Watch a little Houston opened. Good for you Rockets doing well. We've got the astro baseball started. Uh, it's it could be a very interesting It's a great sports weekend here, especially because it's pretty I however, I'm stuck in a studio where I can I get exercise for a while since I had a little procedure don which is causing me to be a little stuffed up. And I apologize for that. Still X voice. Maybe

we should start a poll, start a pull on X or something. Uh, this is what if you follow me on on extra Twitter take a look at this. I posted this earlier this week. It's a high tech text at h I g h T E c h T e x A N. I talk a lot about phones, test phones all the time, and I'm an Android fan without a doubt. That's what I carry on a regular basis.

There are there are third party companies who are out there that take phones and they hemp them out, they blame them out for lack of a better word, they put diamonds on they they go nuts and they up charge. It's just just it's it just it makes it look neat right versus you know, go out and getting a nineteen dollars you know, cover for the whole thing. Oh no, no, company called Caviar. Caviar. They just came out with a very special addition of a Samsung Galaxy S twenty four Ultra,

which is a great phone. It's a phone that I uh, it's probably my favorite photo of the year so far. Came out a few months ago. It's got a stylist phenomenal camera and everything, and they pimped it out. It is a luxury brand called Caviar, And I put a photo in a link on my ex Twitter site. Earlier this week. I hope you have some money for this thing. They outdid themselves and this is actually a pretty thing. They took a Samsung at Galaxy S twenty four Ultra and

they made it look like a Tesla cyber truck. I am not kidding you. They made only ninety nine units of these, and at the low end it cost eighty eight hundred dollars. I'm looking at this right now and it is just I'm not gonna say why. Listen, dead matter companies do this thing to ten thousand dollars for the higher end, depending on if you have a terabyte. It looks like a little flat cyber truck, which I think

are actually not sexy. There is no significant difference between this ten thousand dollars phone and a normal Galaxy S twenty four, which you can probably get for eighteen hundred dollars. The software are the features, it's all the same. You go to Caviar's website, it thoughts on this thing. Has anybody ever done this? I mean, this is the this is over the top luxury. Listen. I know people who have you know, they've got their little

Cardier love bracelets. You know, they've got their beautiful cars. They they've got jets, they've got things, but an eighty eight eighty eight hundred to a ten thousand dollars phone. And the funny thing is, because this thing is kind of like three D because it looks like a cyber truck. I don't think you can put it in a in a cover, which means if you drop it is gonzo. That's it's a little that's a little too luxury for me. A seven time markup. Oh my goodness. Let's see what

else we got over here. We got a few more mess and we'll talk about this. We are we are techno. We're about a week away. Who is gonna go see this solar eclipse? We don't need to go far because all we need to do is really look up once it's I'm not to say it's once in a lifetime because there's another one coming in Alaska. I don't know a few years from right now. So feel free to uh to go. But the big news it is Monday, April eighth, and uh

there's some guidelines over here because Texas is right smack in the path. For those of my listeners who are outside of Houston, who may be in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio. You were gonna get what a hell of a view. It is gonna be late morning, early afternoon, and for about if you're in the path of totality, you got about four minutes, just a little over four minutes where it's gonna be dark. And it's an I said, it's a novelty. It is just to just to say you've been

through one of these things. But I mean, come on, people, listen, every single night the sun goes down, and that's what it looks like. There's some apps out there I will put I'll put a few of these links on my website high tech textan. There are a few apps out there which we'll track it and give you some sights of it's some ideas of how to look at it, to precaution your eyes and everything. One is called total solar eclipse. One is called Eclipse twenty twenty four. There's another

one called one eclipse. Here's one from NASA. It's got images of news and whatever. I'm afraid to download. But just like anything, I gotta tell you this, you know, make sure. I mean, hopefully the weather forecast is going to be good, but you need to get some solar eclipse glasses and they're gonna be on sale everywhere. Make sure they're ISO certified so your eyes don't get fried. And these things can cost about two dollars. You do not need to pay anything more than that. Then go out

and look up. That's it, and there's gonna be more coverage on here. I've got press releases from small bed and breakfasts in the Hill country of Texas. Hey, we're selling you know, you know, you know once you come out, spend the weekend. Well, you got to spend another day because it's on a Monday for all of four and a half minutes. Is anybody ever heard is there a good fun tie in with those things? I mean, I know it's like Monday, early afternoon. I mean it's

it's lunchtime. Any cocktails. Is every radio station gonna be playing a Bonnie Tyler song? Write at about one pm? If you're earn of a good tie in, gonna take a break here at the top of the hour. But seven, one, three, two point two, five, nine five to oho? Any bars having a uh an exclipse watch party? Oh? You can drink for four and a half minutes. I mean something, it's

gonna be something sexy because it doesn't happen too often. Coming up next our something turns twenty years old in the world of technology, doesn't seem it and actually changed it. Really, it's something you probably use right now. It's twenty years old, and it really did help to change the Internet and how we communicate. I thought that's pretty interesting. And some of the neat features including a ladder. This thing is so tall. This has an excite. I was test driving one of this print past week. It has a ladder that folds down so I can climb on top of it. See this is the need stuff that I get to do. I wish I felt better. Michael Garfeld k p RC nine fifty Am. It is all talk, all Texas,

all the time. It is all Garth. So stand by. We're gonna be right back. I hope everybody is having a wonderful Saturday afternoon. It is Michael Garfield k PRC nine fifty A. M nice weather thing's going. We've got Easter weekend, We've got the Houston Open. Weather's getting better. I'm sure you're out there having fun. And I hope you're ready to shop too. A lot of shopping going on, you know, the spring season.

I am a big shopper. I like me some deals. I like me some discounts, so you know, I like, you know, not so much going into malls, but you know, sometimes there's a little pop up type of things. I actually saw something that cut my eye. It's coming up next weekend for the third time. It's a third annual. It's a neat It's it's held by a nonprofit organization called the Houston Junior Form. It's called the City Market. And for all you shoppers out there, we

want a little retail therapy. This might be for you. We I'm gonna give you a little bit more information and bring in for a few minutes Linda West. Linda is with the Houston Junior Forum. It is a women organized nonprofit that is committed to providing charitable service for children and women and senior adults here in and around the Houston. They are putting on the City Market, she joins me. Question one, Linda, is there stuff for guys? Am I gonna be able to defy stuff for me? Oh? Yeah,

you'll find stuff for you there. There's all kinds of great guy things at the city Market. But the best thing at the city Market is that you can shop for all your girlfriends and your wives and young owners, and then you can come by with really unique things for them too. Okay, you don't know me, but apparently you think I have girlfriends and wise I like you. Okay, I'm not won't we won't go on the plural just yet. But I think she means that for the entire set, you can shop

for girlfriends and wives. But I do want to start with this about the history. This is a wonderful organization. It's tell us about the Houston Junior Forum. Well, the Houston Junior Forum was founded in nineteen forty six by a group of really forward thinking women who started doing service in the Hispanic community. They realized that the Hispanic children could not speak English, and so they

started a preschool program specifically to teach English to that Hispanic population. And that preschool was so popular over the years that people stood in line overnight like they were going to a concert to get their children registered at that preschool. And that was closed in the early two thousands because head Start started became our competition

and it was not necessary anymore. But that's how we started, and over the years we have developed so many wonderful programs for senior adults, for women, for children, and today we are doing a college school dealership program and a community grants program. Uh, and that's what we are using our funds for. You've been involved in the Houston Junior Forum and and what about what's your role? Yeah, gosh, right now, I'm the vice president of

financial Resources. I'm previous. I'm a previous past president of the organization. I've held lots of different offices, but I've been involved in the Houston Junior Forum for about eighteen years, long long time. I'm looking led to West. I'm speaking with her talking about the City Market. It is taking place next weekend, So I'm looking at the dates here. We've got Friday April fifth, We've got Saturday April sixth. It is at Host Houston. I

love that place and this is the I get leave. This is the third year. How did this come? How the City Market event come about? Well, over the years, we've done lots and lots of different kinds of fundraising projects, but we all thought that having a boutique market would be a fun event and it would have appealed to a lot of different said months of

the population. So we started it in twenty twenty two. This is our third year and we are excited not only about the opportunity to raise money, but also about the opportunity to showcase the Houston Junior Forum to the public. We would like the public to know more about us and the things that we do, and so this gives us a great, great venue for showcasing ourselves to the Houston community. Kind of perusing the list of the vendors and all

the activities. Man, there's a lot going on for these two fun days downtown at Post Houston for people who may want to pop down there. It's called the City Market for two days. What do they expect in terms of the activities and really the atmosphere of the overall event. Yeah, well, if you just want to come and shop, we have a wide selection of fashion, jewelry, accessories, gifts, om decor, children's wear, garmet, food, etc. Men's men's items, and that's complimentary general admission,

so all you have to do is show up. You can get a complimentary ticket on a bit bright if you want to. But we have three really fun events that are special ticketed events. We kick off with a morning brunch on Friday morning, which we'll be serving bubbles in a lovely brunch, and then on Friday evening we have Sip and Shop. We have wine and spirits, vendors and shifts, appetizer stations that you can browse through. You can go have a glass of wine, go back to shopping, Go have an

appetizer, go back to shopping. So that's Friday evening, and then Saturday morning we have Biscuits and Bubbles, which is on kind of a freepour of bubbles, drinks like prosecco, and maybe some mimosas. And this cute, little fun biscuit buffet that you can eat. All the tickets are available on event bright, and they're all very reasonably priced. I see what you're doing is think it's like a casino. You get this liquored up and then we

go shop, shop shop. Yeah, that's's pretty smart. That's what we're happing chat with Linda West. Linda is with the used to Junior Forum, and we're specifically talking about an event next week. It is Friday the fifth and April the sixth. It is called the City Market And uh, I guess if you're getting you want to get involved with the City Market or even the I guess the Junior Forum, if you maybe you may be looking for

more vendors or certainly attendees. How do we get more information tickets and everything. Yeah, well, tickets are available on event right and also on our website wwwdcity mkt dot org. Uh So, go to either of those locations and you can get tickets if you want to just learn more about what's going

on. We have an Instagram site at the City Market and a Facebook page the City Market Houston, and we also have all kinds of contact information out there in flyers and posters and yard signs, so any of those things will get you to us. Love it. Wait, what a great, great event, without a doubt, certainly for shoppers, but the overall the Houston Junior Form. What a wonderful organization, and congrats on the success. I

know eighteen years specifically for you, but doing a woodful job. So let's hopefully get a lot of people and vendors down there raise some money for you. Yeah, thank you, thank you so much for this opportunity, and we are looking forward to welcoming everybody to the City Market. I'm looking forward to shopping. So I got I'm looking for a sh medium sized shirt. I got bubbles in my right hand, a pisco my left hand led out. Ready well, okay, we're all ready to get you all set up

and have some new shirts and a fun time. Love it. Okay, thanks again and best of luck. Thank you, Jack. I'd like that it's a go go check that out that it is called the City Market in Lenda Gatebell the information. We're going to take a break right now. Michael Garbold is the name on the very long and running two decades of doing it every weekend here KPRC radio. iHeartRadio. We're gonna be right back with the High Tech Texan Show. Yeah, it's about thirty more minutes left of the

radio show. It is et gel the High Tech Texan Show, talking so much more about Technology'd love to have you join me if you have questions or revities for a deviated septum to make this the pain go away. Seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh guess what just turned twenty years old? It is has to do with technology and it is probably something that you use or you have. Twenty years ago, Gmail was launched and invented. Gee, who's still as a GM? I have a Gmail. Gmail

revolutionized email, fast search, a whole gig of storage. It's just been kind of sitting there ever since. And I remember when it was released because it was it was cool, but we thought it was a joke because it was announced on April Fool's Day, thinking it was some kind of a prank. Oh my goodness, one gig about it. Storage unbelievable and you can only get it through an invitation. It was a beta test that Gmail mailed to a select people and then if you had it, you could maybe send

out three or four invitations. It was a slow roll, but it was it was a phenomenal way to roll it out. It was, oh, how do I intentation? I want one of these things. It's not just you could just go download an app, it was it was it was that was a really neat way to do it, and Google did that for a number of different things. Became a must have for the technology fan Email revolutionized email. It really did, if you think about it, reimagined what our

inboxes were capable of. Really became essential part of our our online identities. The service right now, and I did some research for you because this is what I do. Estimated one point two billion users. It's about one seventh of the global population. It's almost a necessity to do anything online. And it kind of feels like Gmail has always been here and it's going to be around, but it's still rudimentary. Like I don't go to Gmail dot com

and I don't have the Gmail app per se. I I integrate it into other things. I have a Gmail account and I forward it to my Microsoft Outlook, which is my email client. So everything kind of look the same. So I have my high tech textan email address, I have my Gmail address, I have my heart media address, but I'll go get into the same inbox. But Gmail is so easy is listen to someone says, hey, what's your email address? Well, I could sit here and go Michael

at High Tech Texan HI g A T. Said. Other than that, it's just like move blah blah blah Gmail dot com. And I got a pretty easy one because I was one of the first ones to actually get Gmail, and I, you know, kind of grabbed my first initial, my last name and there you go. There were a lot of value propositions that Gmail brought to the table if you wanted to if you do wanted to search anything for your emails, like you know, hey, I remember writing an

email about this and this. You just put the word in and it was it was really great. Miss Now you had way too many emails. And then Google introduce some different themes and whatever. Who uses this still? And it's fun I use. Here's the thing when it comes to emails, it is a little tip that I tell people. You need several email addresses, especially when you sign up and you subscribed newsletters or promotions. You should create

specific email addresses to log in specific promotions whatever. So you just don't use one massive email address. To me, it's too or to manage. I use my Gmail. Actually, I gotta be honest with you. I probably have eight to ten different Gmail addresses and I use them when I sign up for newsletters. What I sign up for, you know, different promotions, birthday clubs, whatever. But if you think about it, I'm gonna here's an analogy. Gmail is like a passport for the Internet because Google is just

so ever present with everything. What is it it is? We get different? What's your favorite go to? Who has a Yahoo? I still know a few people who have Aol and it's kind of laughable. But whatever, they don't want to change it. I understand this, but I will say this is this is a topic. Is email I'm gonna make I'm gonna give you two things. Is email and phone numbers. Will they be around for

the long haul? And I can make a case where they will not be because we now are used to communicating through text, direct messages, and social media. I want you to think about this. The ten digit number of our phone numbers that we have, I don't think they're going to be around for the long long haul. If somebody wants I want Facebook, I'm on Instagram. I'm on Twitter. If somebody wants to contact me, which they do, they will DM me. They will direct message me. Sometimes.

I got my parents. My mom she's on Facebook. If she wants to send me something, she doesn't text on her phone, but she will, without a doubt, she'll go on Facebook and she'll DM me. Kids will do that too. And you don't need the phone number even for What's app. What's app is it's tied to your phone number per se, but you search for it by name. So I we're in the We're certainly in the midst, but are we near the end of it? And this is listen,

I'm opening up the phone calls. If you think about this, if you agree to disagree, or do you like it better or not? Seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh. Matter of fact, that phone number which has been a staple here in our KPRC radio station for well over twenty five years that I've been almost I've been doing this thing. That number may go away. Hell, go to our website kprcradio dot com.

I are radio dot com. Are there on the app you actually can leave a voicemail that we we can actually put your voice on the air on our just through the app. We've changed so much, so quickly. When I started talking about technology two thousand and one, there was no email, really there was. We got letters in the mail. You had to put a stamp. Dear Michael, I listen to your show. You have no clue what in the world you're talking about. I hate you. You talk

too fast. Your NAIs late. Man. There's nothing like getting hate mail for the post office nowadays, simply just you know, people just send me eight mail on text and DM right now, Happy birthday, Happy anniversary, twenty years Gmail. It's gonna be around for a while, but I think in the long run there's gonna be new ways, easy ways to communicate. We're using these things. Yes, TEX still is dependent on your phone, but any but through social media and other ways that we're gonna have these easier

ways to reach out to each other. Coming back, last last section, it's the last segment I will talk about the Defender Outbound. I'll give you that review, the top Eastern candies that you have voted on. I'm really surprised that you got one of these and anything else you have for me seven one three, two, one two five nine five. Oh, it is the high Tech Jackson Joe Final. A few minutes of the show, Thank

you for hanging around. Looks like I'm gonna make it. Valabreed, He's gonna be putting us on the here in about the ten minutes, Team Good, iHeartRadio, look for Michael Garfield, high Tech text and KPRC. I think I'm gonna make it. Man, I'm tired. Thank you for all the remedies and you're sad stories of all your surgeries. I had a little procedure earlier this week which is causing my nose to be very stuffy because I have stints inside my nose. It is a deviated septim procedure. I think

I was taking to Paul. Is it a surgery or is it a procedure? I hate being over dramatic, even though I kind of do like the dramatic stuff. I really don't want to call it surgery. I've never had surgery before. Does this break my streak of being over fifty years old and having my first surgery or or is it a procedure? Surgery technically is a procedure. I am not sure, but hopefully I will be sounding much better next week after I got these stints pulled up. Oh I hope they don't

when they yanked these things out of my nose. Oh my goodness, I need some tranquilizers. People, somebody coup old by a hand. Help me out. Not going to give you the phone number because I have a few things in to hit. We covered a number of different things. I did promise I was going to give you my vehicle review of the week. Every week for fifteen plus years, I review a car, a truck, what have you. If you miss it, I have a whole podcast dedicated to

that. From years and years of yapping and driving these things. It is not I don't get cars through dealerships. I get them directly through the manufacturers. Every single week, I get to drive them for about seven days. I do not get paid for it. So it means I can rag on them. I can love aut them. I can tell you what's you know? Who's it good for? What type of person or families it's not good

for. I am your guy. So if you're looking for a new vehicle for you owned vehicle, at least I can help you out with some names, makes, models, and brands. If you're looking for an suv and you are a status climber and a little pretentious. Uh oh did I say that? Yes? I was rolling around this past week in a twenty twenty four Defender outbound. You know you got the land Rover stuff. This is the Defender and this is a massive suv, very tall. This will haul

anything. It probably should fit. Does it fit at king sized bed when you lay everything down all the but it was great for outdoors. It could rot, It could the whole vehicle with a touch of a button. It could rise up to get through high water, it could lower down, be a little bit more aerodynamic. It is so tall. It had a few accessories, which it took me a while to understand what these two things that were hanging over the top of it, one of which was a ladder.

And this is the first accessory I've seen a lot of accessories, third party accessories on vehicles. It was a ladder. You have to have a little key because it locks, and you know, maybe the the it collapses. So maybe it was only about two feet tall and you could see it's a ladder. But then when you take a key which on your keychain and then you fold down the ladder, it folds out not once but twice, so

now it becomes almost a six foot ladder. So now you can climb up the ladder to stand on to put things on top, like on the luggage rack on top of the thing. Really a genius Is it needed? Actually? I don't know if you if you drive around and do some outdoor stuff, you need to put some stuff on top of this thing. I thought that was pretty neat. It rides very nicely. The sound system is great, very comfortable everything from the leather inside. It has a big three liter

six cylinder gas engine. It's about three hundred and ninety five horse power. It toes, so it's got about four hundred and five pounds feet of torque. Very very comfortable, easy to get into the uh that second row and uh it's it's just one of these rugged look at things. Not the cheapest

thing out there, the uh way. The MSRP just for the base eighty four thousand dollars, but then I had the optional equipment of a comfort the convenience package, and the off road package and all the fun stuff, and so the retail price of the one I drove for a week was just over one hundred and one thousand dollars. That's right. I love the color. It was a it's called Carpathian gray. Carpathian wasn't that Ghostbusters too? You

go the Carpathian it was. It was a matted gray, and I'm not a big fan of matted type of color, you know, which is not shiny. But it was pretty cool, pretty kind of pretty, kind of sexy, had ebony interior inside. I don't get to drive a lot of Defenders or land Rovers or you know, the small little ones the sports or anything like that. But I liked it a lot. Would I get it, I don't know. I don't do a lot of outdoor stuff. If

you are a do we still use the word yuppie. If you're a yuppie, if you like the brand of Defender and you have a family, or you really want to schlep some things, or you're a realtor and you want something comfortable where you're gonna have more than one person. Yeah, if you're a you know, listen is it If you're a single dude, a single lady, you just want to slep things around? Fine, I don't know why you need all this space. You're a mom, soccer bel air hoity

toity. Absolutely, I'm I'm kidding, but I'm not kidding. It's it's a very high end brand, one hundred and one thousand dollars, have got seventeen overall miles per gallon sixteen of the city, eighteen in the highway. But it's very tough to get to another Justice comfort ble really classy suv. Then the twenty twenty four Defender Outbound is the one that I specifically had. If you want me to your review almost anything else, just pop me a

notes. Actually, I give you my give you Michael at high Tech Textan dot com, Michael Garfield at iHeartMedia dot com. With that, we're gonna start closing things down thanks to US coins and jewelry.
