Is Michael Garfier. Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining us and the high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is here with a high Tech Texans items to make life easier, some new technology, and Michael Garfield has something you might want. Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texan. Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets. I heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio Act. Now your high Tech Texan, Michael Garfield, just like that big boy said, it is the

high Tech Textan Show. Michael is my name. For the next two hours, we are going to put together a show we have done for over twenty years as we approached the holiday season and all your questions answers, new products.

But I have to take a few minutes over here to let you know that my mind specifically is not one hundred percent on focus of my daily task or re least weekly task of talking on the radio show, because what is going on with this world and this is a platform that I have had for two decades, and I'm going to take a minute over here to talk about what is happening on the other side of the world, because these are really crazy, horrific times. It was one week ago today, Israel was attacked

by Hamas. The terrorist group launched that surprise attack from Gaza into Israeli territory. In that attack, as we know, the militants broke through the border fence, they stormed Israeli towns, they fired on civilians. As of now, thousands of Israelis have been killed by Hamas militants. Hundreds of civilians and soldiers were taken to Gaza's hostages. And this is children, this is the elderly. These are American citizens. Hamas. If you don't know, it's

an Islamist militant group. It's been deemed a terrorist organization by the US and the EU, and it sees control of Gaza in two thousand and seven after is Roel withdrew and the two sides have fought several wars since the last Saturday's attack. It was the biggest incursion that Israel has experienced since the Young Kipper War almost fifty years ago. Exactly, I went to school growing up reading books, well actually I'm not a big book reader, but studying wars,

specifically the Young Kipper War. The Young Kipper War is I'm not saying nothing compared to what is going on right now. But foreign policy experts are saying that Hamas's sophisticated attack on Israel literally is representing Israel's nine to eleven or Pearl Harbor moment. It's a stunning failure of Israel's vaunted intelligence program that's going to

impact its politics and society for decades to come. Is this something that the next generation kids are going to be reading about, just like I studied the young Kipper Warren so many others. You know, this attack is going to have seismic ramifications in the Middle East. You've listened to me, you know me. I am not a political guy. I don't really even talk about world politics or even the world. But this is horrible. What is going

on. Benjaminette Nahu, Prime Minister of Israel. He warned of a very long, very difficult war ahead, and one that's likely going to result in massive military response in Gaza, and it's going to be shaped by the hostage crisis. I want to steer this in a little bit different direction right now. I want to talk about, at least for a brief moment, to say that I personally stand for Israel and what is happening there is one of

the most horrific tragedies in my lifetime that I have seen. But I also bring up this topic because of the way we are finding out information coming from the Middle East. A lot of that, as we now know, comes

from social media, and thus a lot of that information is misinformation. People be careful of where and what you are reading, be it on X formally, Twitter, TikTok, wherever there's solid resources you can turn to on social media sites like the AP or even the BBC, but please be aware before you start forwarding or retweeting or quoting information because we don't know exactly what is

happening. The only thing we do know this is a tragic time at a very scary time in the Middle East, and we can only hope for peace immediately. And I go online and I it's funny how the media criticizes and critiques other media. There are stories that I continue to read are popping up right now or even this morning as I was prepping for the show that X formally Twitter. They have been amplified disinformation amid the Israel Hamas conflict or whatever

we were calling this thing. You know, from the outset from last weekend, there's been graphic footage of abductions, military operations. They spread like wildfire on social media platforms. This disinformation on all these platforms, it's made it harder for users really says what's happening, what's real, what's not real? It's propaganda. A lot of this stuff is what do we believe? War now is not just solely on ground fighting, guns, tangs, infiltration.

It's communication, it's news. It is that propaganda more so than ever because we we as the people of the world, we have a voice. You know, I was obviously I was not around in World War Two. I was very young in Vietnam War We and I studied that because I was a communication of broadcast. We got that information, Americans got the world got that information from reporters, TV, radio reporters, Edward R. Murrow on the

ground. Remember what wolf Blitzer made his name back in what the early nineties was that the goal for on television social media as we knew it was not there where we can say, oh, no, is this real? Is this not real? You have to trust the trusted sources. The problem is, and as we continue and ize, they wind up my first segment over here, and this is what I talk about with technology, and technology has changed in the twenty two years since I have done this show. If I

started this show Facebook, we wasn't around. Twitter, wasn't around the social media wedding around. You got your information for me. Now you get more information about tecking everything else from other resources. I don't make things up. I don't lie. Listen, I'd love to I'd love to tell you that the Cowboys are going to win the Super Bowl, the Long Worne is gonna win the national Championships in whatever I going to tell you they did. We

can fight, Yes, they did know they didn't. We broadcasters journalists, which I actually have degrees in that we're the trusted resource. We are living in a crazy world right now, not only in the real world but also online. So heads up and just right that this world can just get along.

It is just sad some of the things that I do believe because I have to trust these resources and that I continue to click go down the rabbit holes from several different area resources, maybe from the left, maybe from the right of what's real, what's not real? No real or not? I know things are happening, and bad things are happening, and it shouldn't happen

like this. That's the end of that. I appreciate you listening to me, and I hope we can tell you just to live our haha, fun life over here in America, and it never happens to us or your family, or your people or your friends. But it's happening to a lot of my listeners and a lot of my friends family in Israel who have been adducted.

They don't know what is happening. It's freaking scary. With that, we will take a break and we're gonna come back and we're gonna try to make sense of Hey, it's a Saturday here on KPRC nine fifty am. That's exactly what we're gonna do, my friends, and we're gonna try to keep on you happen what we're happening about. Michael Garfield is the name. It is called the High Tech Textant Show. Hey to get in the show

phone number is seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh. It is a radio call in show and we try to do keep it on topics, and I do thank you for letting me go a little off topic. At the opening segment. Michael is my name, callum here is on the other side of the glass, Calum if you feel like picking up the phone and put some questions through. It is October, mid October. Not

gonna say it's snuck off, snuck up on us. It's this has been a long, long, freaking year and it's not going well for a lot of people. Maybe hopefully you are having a good year weather wise. You know, I always talk about the weather because weather, weather affects me so

much. It affects my mood. And living here in Houston, which generally is just a nasty, humid climate, we do look forward to the potential November, December, January weather when it gets cooler, and so we're almost do you feel fall, just trying to sneak in, trying to sneak in, it's getting there. I cannot wait for winter, Michael, or sweather. Weather in my jacket weather. I have more jackets than anybody in this

in this southern city should have because I don't know. Maybe I'm just thinking the world is gonna a cold frin is just going to take over for eight months of the year on it, or I'm waiting to move somewhere up north, whether or not Amazon, this is a segue over here, I'm a professional. You can actually follow my lead over. Amazon had its second Prime Day, because you know what, one Prime day year is not enough here in America. And it was a two day event earlier this week, and

they had jackets on sale. See that's how you segue. Anybody get any winter clothes. Prime days generally people look for televisions, they look for they look for kitchen appliances too. And I was looking at some of the stats that were coming into the number of kitchen appliances people. I really thought you had enough air fryers. I thought there are I thought every kitchen. You know, there's a car in every garage, there's a fish in every bucket,

there's an air frer in every kitchen. They're getting cheaper, cheap air friers are good. Then there's these these crock potty type of things. There's blenders, there's I mean, what all do we need? But this is what I'm here for. I actually test some of these products out and before you actually buy one. This is I am your resource. I'm your consumer

lifestyle guy. I am I have was this I don't know if it was on Amazon Prime, But let's talk about this kitchen stuff, because as you're starting to see, you know what, even though it's mid October, I guarantee Black Friday deal is going to start popping up almost immediately, and they're trying to shove all these gadgets. Remember, and I'm going to go back

in the day right now where everybody had to have a waffle maker. My parents still may have a waffle maker, and I'm talking from the nineteen seventies, and the over under number of times that waffle maker to this day had been used probably is about five and a half five and a hoock got to have a waffle maker. Then you had the bread maker. Oh, I was in the bread maker, Phace too. Breadmaker was nineteen ninety one two three four you think, had it a little R two D two looking thing.

Oh my goodness, we can make our own bread man. I was making rosemary bread, cheese bread. It was the coolest thing in the world. And this is before we had to study on carbs and how bad carbs can be for you. All right, so there goes the breadmaker thing. Listen, wh I can go all the way back to the nineteen seventies. I remember we got our first microwave oven that was gonna that was going to effect and the way we as families got together and cooked meals. The microwave

was going to be the only kitchen gadget we need. We need it in the nineteen seventies. You know what, the last time I checked my kitchen, I have a microwave and you probably do too. Oh, by the way, I still have an oven, and I still have a stove, and I still have a toaster oven, and I still have a refrigerator. No one gadget is not going to make any any other gadget really disappear. It's not like the Jetsons. You know, we had the little pill.

Then it's an entire meal. However, I did get a gadget about a kitchen gadget. It was earlier this year, and I talked about it a few times before. And I'm telling you what, this is almost an all in one type of thing. And I don't know if Amazon had it on sale. It's called a Drea dr EO and I guess it's at Dreo dot com and dre they make a number of things. Is actually I have a Dreo fan. They make circulation pants, but this is a dre O. Let me see if I can pull this thing up. It's a Dreo all

in one kitchen thing. It's the size of a maybe a bread maker or kind of a vertical toaster. And I use this thing more. It's called the Dreo chef Maker Dreo chef Maker Amazon. It's got about three hundred and fifty nine dollars and if instead of and this is not a commercial for it, I absolutely recommend this name. But if you're looking to declutter your kitchen. And I've got now so many guys just not in boxes that I've tested and tried. They're sitting in my garage. I should probably do a garage

sale. I should probably actually get him away here on the show Nimala is good hiding a how bigger house? My all your kitchen over here. But this thing, this Dreo chef Maker, it is a It's called the Dreo chef Maker comby con By Fryar. So it is a smart air fryer. Comes with a cooking probe as a water atomizer, and I like that because you put a little water at the top and it stops things from drying out.

It's got three professional cooking modes and it holds about six quarts. And this thing is like a it's an air fryer, it's a toaster, it's an oven, it's a dehydrator, and it's got defroster and it works very well. It's got a little drawer that you pull out, it's got a little light. And the neat thing is yet there's an app you can download and it's got all these recipes and it shows you how to make them step

by step. And then once you put the food in this chef Maker device, you actually can turn it on and control it from the app, so you can now walk around your home and do everything. It's pretty cool. All right, that's enough. I'll talk about that thing. But it's Dreo. Dreo. Just go look for Drea chef Maker. I get that underdoorse But I listen. I'm every week I'm getting products sent to me. Hey, Michael, you gotta try. And you know I've tried the the the

the big, the Insta pots. You know what I mean. They're okay. And I love cooking. Don't get me wrong. I'm a cooker. Yes, he cooks, he sows, he cleans, He's an eagle scout. I'm such a catch, but I'm not a big if you big soup type of thing. I'm not that guy. But I will tell you what. If I want to cook a big if I want to toast a bagel, if I want to fry some actually ear fry some chicken, if I have chicken breast, I put the probe in there. It comes out quite

well. Why do I need all these other devices? And I say this because and I know it's too late, because you probably went out and shopped and went nuts on Amazon to buy these things. Whoever you're shopping for, it be it for you, be it for a present for your parents, or a housewarming gift. You know, take a you do they have a big kitchen? Is it a clean house? Do they have a lot of

crap on on their kitchen counters? Maybe they don't need some of this stuff, or maybe they need it all in one so Doway, hey, listen, if you bought something really cool on Amazon, listen, I have some open phone lines. Why don't you keep me company here? It's seven one three two one two five nine five. Oh, without a doubt, we're really gonna get into the holiday gift stuff. Give it a few weeks, give it wins. Halloween is done early November, and that's when I go

into my recommendations from so many categories. I mean, I will give you TVs, I will give you phones, headphones, earbudgs, cars, trucks, kitchen gadgets, refrigerators, jewelry. I am your guy. Remember I started out my career on QVC, so I know how to sell a bunch of crap, and I can tell crap from actually real good stuff too. That's why I am your resource. You go high Tech Texan h I g h t E c h T E tech t e x an spell at high tech Texa dot com. I am on all the social media platforms where I

am not sending out disinformation, not at all. The Texas Rangers did indeed win a few days ago and are going to the ALCS. That is not Deserve Range. That is I'm pumped up, people, Let's go all right, high Tech textis Joe coming back? Should you be listening live today as we do the show? It is October fourteenth and a very special day in our family. And I don't know if she is listening, but a big, massive happy birthday to a one Susan Garfield, the mother of all high

tech Texans up in Dallas, listening on iHeartRadio, happiest of birthdays. Sorry, I cannot be celebrating with you today. I did see you last week when I was in Dallas. But is a it's a nice round number and I will not say the age. You guys can potentially guess and figure that out. But anyway, happy happy birthday to Susan Garfield and all the stuff that I'm talking about on the show today, maybe I will ship up to you as gifts. And I just talked about an airfyer. I can hear.

I don't need another airfyer. I don't want another toaster. Okay, so I'll start talking about cars and jewelry. So anyway, if you're up in the Dallas area, or if your friends on Facebook with her, happy birthday to my mother. Phone number here, callum if you want to put a few things through. If anybody wants to wish uh my mom a happy birthday. Seven one three two one two five nine five zero. There's a an app I want to talk about that. It's really interesting and so far

has been getting rave reviews for it. What it does to help our privacy. And I don't know if you've heard about this, but I'm going to kind of go at link with it here, but if you have an issue

with your privacy of how much data is shared. And I did a story earlier this week with our sister station kt RH seven about how much information even when you use loyalty cards in a grocery store, like if you go to Kroger, and and HGB started it too, because I have an hib app and I have the Kroger app too, and I put my phone number in and they send me, you know, some deals of the week and then and I know specifically at Kroger, you can, you know, put your

account number in and you get discounts on something. I've used that for years and years and years. That's one example how the companies they could take that information and they know so much about you. They know exactly what I'm buying, they know what time of day. They can actually track how often I open the app and what I eyeball, and do I pick it up at a certain store, what time do I shop. They actually can sell that

information to third party companies too. And there's ways to stop some of this stuff and there's this new app that believe it or not, just was released by Consumer Reports. Now you talk about and earlier I started the show talk about resources that you can trust, and I'm telling you this and Consumer Reports. If you're listening to me, you're welcome for the pre publicity. Consumer Reports is initially was a magazine. They came out I guess what once a

month. Absolutely took no advertising. The only thing Consumer Reports does and that they would rate product product product. There was no bias, there was no ads, there was no endorsements these things. They would go through everything from kitchen gadgets to cars and they would rate on I think there were different circles. You know that was the best, the worst, the middle and everything.

Consumer Reports is great. I absolutely to this minute trust them. But Consumer Reports came out with an app and it's called Permission Slip and it could reach out to companies on your behalf to order them to stop selling your information. Now, I'll say it again, the information out there. The more you use the internet, the more likely is the pieces of your personal data.

They're scattered all over the place. You could sign up for a social media platform, you could buy something online, you give these companies information, and that information that's collected by companies and data brokers that sell it to other companies. They can use it to sell ads targeted you. But this permissionship permission easy for you to say permission slip and feel free to actually resuppruve of that thing. I did not say a bad word. Permission slip it can

reach out to these companies and have them stop selling information. Some states, by the way, have past legislation that allows you to exercise some control over what happens to it. Yeah, depending on the state, you can prohibit data brokers from selling your data or delete your online data outright. But I've tried this. The process is confusing and it's really kind of unclear. But

this is where this app comes in. Permission slip it does this legwork of collecting the places that might have your data, and that's like one hundred plus companies that use your personal information. And all you have to do is submit your request for your info to either be deleted outright or simply not sold anymore. All right, So here's what you do, all right, here's the payoff. To get to use this permission slip You have to sign up for

the service with your email address. Yes, And what you probably should do is sign up with the email address that you frequently use when signing up for rewards programs or making accounts online, so that way you're addressing most of the places that should that could be selling your data. Okay, once you sign up, there's some options here. If you think a certain company has information, you may want to do something about it. And there's this little tab

that says learn more and take action. And if you don't think this company has your data, and you won't you no longer want to see it, you can hide it. But once you click that learn more and take action, you're gonna be taken to a screen that shows you what sort of data

the company usually collects and what your options are. And depending on the company, and depending on the state that you live in, you could have the option to prohibit companies from selling your data or delete your account outright now. Note, if you're deleting your account and you have a rewards program, you're gonna lose those rewards all right. So after you input your personal information the first time, the process is for removing the data. It's pretty simple.

You're gonna scroll through these permission slip suggestions you're gonna select the companies that might have your info and then you're gonna delete your account, or you're gonna prohibit that company from using your data. It's pretty strong. Now. It's important to note that permission slip is submitting the request on your behalf. You still might have to confirm the request directly with the company. It also may take a bit of time. It's not gonna happen overnight to have this processed,

so be patient. So go check it out. It is permission slip, Consumer Reports, permission slip. You can go just just start Google the thing and you can and you can and you can figure it out. Several states have different rules. And obviously I'm in Texas, a lot of my listeners are in Texas. Here Texas, and what our attorney general, I mean, we try to keep up. I mean, our state tries to keep up with you know, many things to keep it ahead, ahead of the

curve. California, California is pretty strong too. California has something called the California Consumer Privacy Act, and that was the first date law to empower people to designate a third party to make data request on the behalf the law is also I saw this thing from UTAH about TikTok. I'm not a TikTok guy. That is one of the few social media accounts I don't have. I don't need it. I don't even know what I never added it. But then the whole I know it's owned by China, by Byte Dance, and

they're gonna you potentially use your information. I'm like, you know what, that's another thing I don't want to worry about. But UTAH get this is suing TikTok forgetting children addicted to its algorithm. Now I've heard of addicted to love, thank you Robert Palmer, addicted to its algorithm because they're saying it's designed to hook users into its endless feed. I'm sorry, but that's called the internet, right. How many times have you gone to the rabbit hole

on YouTube? Oh? I forgot about this song? Oh? Who is lead singer song? Oh? This lead singer? And so's look at this. Utah's Division of Consumer Protection. It's suing TikTok over allegations that the app's addictive nature. There's your quote right there, and it harms kids, and that TikTok deceptively obscures its relationship with its parent company Byte Dance in China.

Utah is tough there. It's just the latest in a long and growing string of bands and legal actions from US based governments and organizations to really rein in TikTok's popularity. So Utah's governor, they accuse the company of misleading parents that it's apt to say for children, and it violates Utah consumer sales. But guess what. This isn't new and I'm not ragging on TikTok. I'm giving you facts. TikTok's facing challenges like this across the US. Indiana made its

own similar allegations to Utah's. Maryland school districts sue TikTok and actually other tech giants also offer, you know, overclaimed contributions to students mental health crisis. Montana they passed a ban on TikTok in May, which now TikTok is suing. This is what we're We're coming to lawsuits. I wonder as kids hear this and kids get ticked like, oh my god, I can't believe our date or the government is banning something. I wonder how many lawyers are coming

out of this. Did I I have so many of my friends or lawyers. I am one of the few non lawyers of my group. They're all lawyers. And I didn't know. And there tell me that less and less people are going to law school? Is this the reason why I don't know? When I grew up, I didn't know anything about lawsuits. Kids nowadays that they want to find out what's going on, well, TikTok and now where there's a lawsuit. Really, you know what, Mom and dad,

I think I want to be a lawyer. This actually may be a good thing at the end. Maybe this we're going to get the kids to be lawyers. But then again, do we need more lawyers? Ah, a question for you to ponder. As we take a break here, you know the number at seven, one, three five. Oh. We continue when we come back. We're going to talk phones. Another new phone has been released from another company. It's phone season, people, and I will give

you the play by play. Call this the final segment of this first hour. Whether you're listening UHA live here towards the noon hour on Saturday had JPRC nine fifty or almost midnight on KPRC. Because it's so nice, they run it twice. Thank you so much to Pianeerics in our program director uh, we are here to keep you company. Michael is the name seven one three two one two five nine five ozho. You can pick up your phone and call that number. Don't do it while you're driving? What phone? Do

you have no doubt? Or the past two thousand s them too. The fifteen fifteen years, the pretty much biggest topic that has overtaken the world of technology has been the mobile phone. And that was when the first Apple phone came out, When the first iPhone came out, change so many things. Then there's apps. We live on our mobile phones right now. Sales of desktops have been down a bit, the laptops too, and then there's the tablets. But phone, phone phones. This is phone season, people.

The iPhone fifteen was just released, what tow two weeks ago. I still have not seen an iPhone fifteen out in the wild. I would love to hear from someone who bought one of the iPhone fifteens. Call me, I just gave you the number. How does this sound? Is it good? That's in relatively neat features? Wasn't the biggest upgrade? The biggest and you know when The biggest news, the biggest factor, the biggest press release, the biggest chattering buzz of a new phone is when, oh, this phone

has a new type of charger. The phone itself may not be a big upgrade. I may be wrong if your iPhone iPhone fifteen users tell me this is the newest and greatest and latest thing, other than the fact that you now have a USB C type charger instead of the lightning cable. I'm an Android guy, proud of it. Green dots unite people, and I've been using USBC in long time, fast, easy way to transfer data. More and more cars they've got the USB C versus the USB A type connector in

there too. Can't wait to some of these Apple users who rag on me for being an Android. Hey, Mannah, my phone's dying. Can I use your USBC charger? Oh you want my charger that I've been using for years because your new iPhone can't use the old lightning cable. I don't know. Let me give you my venmo. Anyway, point is new phones are being released, not just the iPhone fifteen. Samsung came out Actually, well, I know in July when I was in South Korea, SamSam came out

with their new fold and Flip phones too. They also came out a bout a week or so ago. They announced a line of their phones that are really good prices. They're called mid We're called mid range phones if you don't want to spend just a thousands and thousands of dollars, which phones can be that expensive. Right now, they have a Galaxy S twenty three FE the letter FE. Let's call it Fan Edition? Why not? Way? It is really good features and it looks like a similar Galaxy S twenty three,

which is a great foam phenomenal camera. Starts at six hundred dollars, all right, the regular Galaxy S twenty three. It starts a lot more than that. It's got some AI powering powered editing tools. Comes in several different colors, tangerine. They got a tangerine color. They also came out with a Galaxy tab S nine. I tried that gal It's a tablet. I don't use a tablet a ton, but their Galaxy Tablet S nine that I tried out a few months ago phenomenal, long lasting battery. So now they

got a tab S nine FE Fan Edition. While you fans out that starts at four to fifty four and fifty dollars and then they have no This is the first time they released some earbuds, Galaxy Buds FE Fan Edition wireless earbuds, the longest battery life in the bud series. I have not tried these though. Thirty hours of audio playback and they started ninety nine dollars. Not bad because I think the regular Galaxy Buds are probably a what a one nine

and they went on sale. Let's see. Hold on the Galaxy Tablet FIE and the Galaxy Buds. They were available online last week in the Galaxy S twenty three FE will be on Samsung dot Com and other retailers starting on October twenty fifth. All right, October twenty six, So there you go. That's one. We have Google that just came out with a phone. Google just came out with the Google Pixel eight and the Google Pixel eight Pro.

Did you know people that there is a Google phone. I talk about Android all the time and people think that's just Samsung with Androiz No, I mean they're I mean, Motorola's got one, and g used to have them, and one plus has them and it goes on. Google has its own phone, the Pixel eight in the Pixel eight Pro, and the reviews have been pretty strong too. Matter of fact, people are saying the Google Pixel eight Pro is without a doubt, the best Google Pixel ever to come out.

Good upgrades, right, And I'm looking at this thing, and I have not tried this thing yet, but the display, it seems like they really got the design correctly. There is glass in the front and back, and the rear glass is kind of like a matte type of finish, and it's got a typical six point seven inch display. And but the display, the refresh rate and to get I'm looking at the specs, it varies all the way down to one hundred and twenty hertz, from from one twenty down to

one hurtz. But it's incredibly bright the way it's done, twenty four hundred nits of outdoor brightness. And Google has something called these super ac Tua display. I love how they come up with these names like this. But anyway, fifty megapixel main camera, it's got a little larger aperture than the others. The ultra wide camera is now a twelve megapixel sensor, and there's a forty eight megapixel telephoto camera too, and let me give you the prices to

pretty impressive package. They did increase the price. It was nine hundred and now it's a thousand this year, but I still think it's a relatively pretty good value proposition. I have not tried this yet. That's the pixel the Pixel eight pretty cool. It is smaller, six point three inches. The cameras are out there, still very good, fifty megapixel camera. It's the same thing. It's got an IP sixty eight rating, which is good.

So i'd still make sure you put cases on everything you're out there for. But the really good part is the price. In this the Google Pixel eight starts at seven hundred dollars. It's it's fun Monday, the front of good happy hours and all that stuff. Halloween's coming up. My favorite holiday of the year is Halloween holiday. Can we get debate about this? It's we don't we don't get off of school,

even though we probably should. I mean, it's not Christmas, it's we're not celebrating in the you know, somebody's birth when it's it's not Thanksgiving. We're you know, we're celebrating, you know, Miles Standish and Charlie Brown. It's not January first, we're celebrating a new year. It's but the is Valentine's Day a holiday? Is Saint Patrick's Day a holiday? Now? July fourth, Yes, that's a holiday. Celebrating our independence. Halloween.

I mean, listen, we could do if we define holidays of gift cards from Hallmark or whatever and candy that is related to a holiday. Yes, because Valentine's Day, candy City, Halloween, it's all about the candy we've got. What are the kids, Sir, Saint Patrick's is about beer, Sinko to Mayo beer and having fun. Get back that to Halloween. Though I don't celebrate Christmas, so Halloween was it for me? Man and if if, if a lot of my friends are listening, if you know it.

I went absolutely nuts decorating my home three boys when they were younger, I was. I was the Halloween house. We had probably at the heyday, about one hundred people in our house or in the backyard. We brought in a bounce house, jumpy thing catered from companies here and there. Everybody had to dress the parents had to dress up, parents had to bring I had a theme every year. One year we all had to dress up.

His breakfast food cereal, so there was everything from you know, snap crackle, pop, Tony Tiger, the Quaker, Oatsman and the whole Dallas See. I come up with themes and everybody had to bring a Halloween themed food. You know who has the great the greatest Halloween One of the dudes I work with here, Chad Knockanishi. Chad Knockanishi works with us here at the radio station. He's a producer. He's so freaking creative. He had a

cat litter box. He literally bought a cat litter box and then he came up with he made some yummy food that looked like cat litter, but it was like tutsi rolls. And he went out and he got a fake black and he put it in there like oh like it with the cat was doing his business one every single year. He is the best point is what's the hottest Healay, Callum, I'm looking at you, hottest Halloween costume? Now you don't have any kids, Calum. And the reason I actually had kids

to start is so I can go trick or treating again. My oldest son, Justin born in August. Kid was not two and a half months old, sleeping my arms that October and I went door to door asking for a candy for my little son who was two and a half months old. I live and die by Reeses, and you know that Okay, we got Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift blah blah, yeah yeah in in Barbie. What else but the kids? I mean, the girls are gonna are gonna be little

tiny girls. They'll do Barbie. I guess the guys will do Ken Do we do? I mean, Rianna Drake? Is it your favorite football player? Is it anybody political? Remember the Trump mask. Every time there's a there's a there's a national election, there's the mask, the Biden mask, the Trump mask, the George Bush mask. I remember going back, Remember the Jimmy Carter mass. That's how far I go back. Favorite mask seven one three two one two five nine five V. What are you dressing?

Aps? And you know what? Should you have an excess amount of anything Reeses, which, by the way, I think the Reese's line now is probably about two hundred and eighty five different categories and pieces of everything. Feel free to ship them here to the station for me, and I will share

them with other underprivileged people who never get candy. I'm lying. I'm actually gonna eat every single one of that seven one three two one two five nine five V. When we come back, I'm gonna talk about I just got an email, though, Michael, what is the number one app that you use not on your phone? What is a program or a piece of software or a website that you go to most often? And I thought about it,

and I actually have an answer. It is probably one of the more usable apps online that I've ever used before, because it does so many things. I'll tell you what that is. Yep, it's me again. We're back. We still got about forty minutes or so, forty five minutes of this high tech Texan show. Thank you for tuning me in late night for all you people driving late at night coming home from the bars. Thank you for tuning in to nine fifty am. That's right. We do a repeat.

Just it's it's it's not we have lack of programming. It's just damn good content. For almost a quarter of a decade here, it's called the High Deck Dechsan Show. We do talk more about technology. We do all of consumer lifestyles. Coming up, I'll talk about some of the cars. I every week I get to driving a car. This is people don't believe this, it's we do get We we have perks. Everybody's got a perk in what they do. You know, maybe your company got tickets to sports

events or whatever. Actually we do here, even though I don't get any Astros tickets, the fact that we broadcast the Astros game, but that's okay. I got some concerts here and there. What I do, specifically, it's I have to review products, and so companies will send me a lot of cool things. And I talked about kitchen gadgets last hour, because you know, I was giving you ideas of what the buy or what the return from your Amazon Prime deck. But I also, fifteen plus years ago started

reviewing vehicles and cars and trucks. There's an organization I am a member of, actually a board member of it. It's called the Texas Auto Writers Association, where fifteen plus years ago, they're actually used to be people who write

wrote things like in the Houston Chronicle. Like a good friend of mine, Tim Spell, used to be the automotive see your automotive writer for you know, the for the Houston Chronicle, a lot of syndicated stuff, you know, Car and Driver, all these magazine they review vehicles, and so manufacturers lend for about a week or so vehicles for auto writers and auto reviewers to test. I am on that list every single week of the year, I get a brand new car to drive. It is not from a dealership.

I do not endorse a dealership. I don't know why I don't endorse a dealership. Maybe our sales folks here a little lazy and they forget that. I, for fifteen years have reviewed cars. I'm also very picky with dealerships. I do know some good dealerships, and there's probably only one dealership in this entire area who I would endorse, and I'm not saying that. But let's go back to the manufacturers. I get to drive trucks, I get to drive sports cars, I get to drive Mini vans, I get to

drive electric cars. Don't know what I'm gonna get because it comes from a service that really kind of gathers these vehicles, most of them made in Michigan because that's where a lot of our manufacturing is, and I get to play with them. So my review and I do not get paid. It is zero percent paid. It is one hundred percent content. I will tell you if this car is kind of crappy, I will tell you if this car is an incredible bot. I will tell you if this vehicle is something that

the first vehicle that you should test. You you'd be looking for a car. I mean, I'm gonna tell you like it is. So if you want me. If you're thinking about buying a vehicle, and maybe you're deciding between one or two. Maybe you want a three row suv, maybe you want a fast sports car. Maybe what's your favorite electric vehicle? Feel free to call, feel free to email me. Go to high tech text in dot com found my email and just say, Michael, have you reviewed anything

in this category? And I will bring it. I'll respond to you or I'll bring it up on the topic over here. Over the past few weeks, I have driven. I was in a really, really impressive Buick last week and I didn't even know they released this thing, and I had it. It's called the Buick Invista E n V I S t V I S t A. It's a SUV two rows, hatchback, amazing room and for the price. Think this thing is right around twenty nine thousand dollars. I'm

all over this place. This is good. I was very impressive with Buick. It's not your father's Buicks, not Buick and Vista. It's good ride, comfort, nice technology. That's a new one. That I never heard of. Currently this week, I'm at a Corvette Stop yep, my favorite car of all time. I am a vet guy. I will next week. I will give you the full play by play of how that work electure vehicles. I'm down on those two that are pretty good. I'll give you

more reviews later in the show. But I have to pay off this thing. I have to pay off an email that I tease. Got an email over here. This is from Jennifer. Jennifer is in pair Land. Jennifer says, Hey, Michael, what is your most used app or a piece of software that you just can't live without? And I thought about that,

and then I go into my desktop because I at home. I pretty much live and die on my desktop, and I'm looking for my most used apps, and I forgot about it, like it should have been popped into my mind because of course I use this every and this again, I'm just telling you this. This is not a paid anything. I wish this company would pay me because I use it so often too. I use it. I use a piece of software, an app called it's not even a software,

it's it's a web based utility. You don't even need to download anything. It's called Zamsar. Anyone zam Zaar and what it is. It's an online file conversion website if you need to convert any file into almost any other file format. I've used this thing for ten years, twelve years. I used to recommend app like you know, kiss my app? That was my thing? What was my app of the day. I don't do it. This thing probably is my all time favorite. It's not it, I mean you

can download it. I don't use this as an app because I just literally go to zamzar dot com and I convert things. It'll take document file formats, so we could take anything from word making a PDF. It could take image file formats, so if you want a JPEG and you want to make it like a PNG or something. It'll take audio file formats. And I use Zamzar probably for audio more than anything else, because when I record things on my show sometimes they come out as MP four files. Well MP three's

are actually the standard because it's more compressed. I upload, it takes a matter of seconds. Here's a link, and it spits it out into an MP three. It'll convert video file formats number thing, so from documents if you have if you have like a CSV, which is a common Comma separated value file. It's just a lot of information. It'll, i mean matter of seconds, it'll put it into a Microsoft word, it'll make it a PDF, it'll make it an XLS spreadsheet. It just does a ton of

stuff. So to answer your question again, I'm just answering emails over here. My most used thing that I use it so much, it's I didn't even think about it because it's part of my almost daily, certainly four or five six times a weeks conversion thing. And you can download something on your desk that which goes up. It's Oh, by the way, it's free

to use. Now. They'll only let you use it one or two times a day for free, and then you can sign up and you can get a an unlimited type of thing, which in ten years I've never had to do that. But that is it. And I'll I'll fill this out and get to the bottom of the hour over here. And I got a really good guest coming up talk about food favorite. What is the most used tool, app, piece of software that you got use. I'd love to hear it if you If you're too shy to call seven one three two one two

five nine five. Huh, go to my x site. It's high tech texting. H I g h T e c h T e x a N. Also threads. I'm also on threads. I've been given that. Some love high tech text and h I g h T e c h T e x a N. Most used I will type may not even so much. Your mobile phone, I can tell you right now. The most used is it for me? It's either my text or my camera or actually my email. I use the Outlook email too. I don't even I rarely use my

phone app. A phone is actually an app on your smart device. Text so much more something all right, when we come back, give you some ideas. I got a fourth anniversary of a big, really really nice, high end luscious restaurant in downtown used in debt is coming up. We'll tell you how to get tickets about that. It's kind of a big chef thing if you like tasting little tidbits of different food from all over the city. You got that. And then one final wrap up, little cars and some

of your questions here on high Tech next to shut back at it. I hope everybody is having a wonderful day or night depending on when you are listening to this radio show also slash podcast. It is Michael Garfield. Only been doing it for what two decades here in and around the Houston area. It's always nice to run into not only listeners, but some other business owners, and certainly I love restaurateurs. You listen to my show, it's certainly not

just technology, it's consumer lifestyle. And I do like me some eating and I like me some drinking, and it's nice to meet the people in that industry for all this time I've been doing it, one of which is a good buddy of mine who I have seen hop and hop and hop in the restaurant in the food and beverage service industry for a long time. And this cat has made it. He is a great guy and he continues to make his mark here in and around the Houston area. He is with one of

my favorite restaurants in the city right now called Guard and Grace. It's downtown Houston, along with other cities that if you haven't been at, this is I mean, if you want steaks, if you want fish, if you want cocktails, and the decor is great, you really need to check this out. But I'm gonna let my man in his big mouth to tell it to us in his own words. His name is Elliott Wood. He's the general manager of Garden Grace. He's been on the show many many times before.

Ellie. Remember back in the day where one of your restaurants you created a cocktail named after me? Remember those days? Oh, that's right, I do remember that. Yeah, the high Tech Texan Teenie or the high Tech Teeny. There it was, Ellie. You put me on the map. I'm gonna put you on the map. Now. Is that a good reciprocation? I love it. Man, let's go, let's go. No, I'm serious. But you have been in the industry of walk congrats man.

You continue to excel and really find yourself with some great organizations. And actually you're bleeding Guarden Grace, which is in downtown Houston. And for those who've never been there, how would you describe it? I mean, I walk in. It's just first of all, it's the design I didn't want to eat. It's like can you see him number one? Oh, by the way, you be a phenomenal food. How do you describe your place from top to bottom? Well? Absolutely, you know it is a delight

for this sense. It is all the way across the board. We are the modern state house, which differentiates us a little bit. You know, there's a lot of great steakhouses in Houston, a lot of great steakhouses that are serving amazing food. But with us, the modern steakhouse speaks to a more contemporary approach to what we're doing. It is the design that you've mentioned. We've won quite a few architectural awards with this fifteen thousand square foot location

here in Houston. The music we play is different, it's more contemporary, but even how the food itself is crafted. We are founded by one sleeve haftooed rock star chef out of Hawaii, and it definitely shows every steak is not just steak on a plate. We finish it with beald demi chived butter nok fired carrots, and then you can definitely see the inventiveness when it comes

together and the other dishes that complement the menu. Chef Troy Guard likes to bring elements together and makes them work that you wouldn't imagine and your life that would come together. We have this amazing hamachi sashimi dish that we finished with strawberry pop rocks on the plate. It's always a show. That's crazy, man, it's great. And you know, whether it's that or red fish from the Gulf that we finished with popcorn, it's lovely to see how these

different elements can come together. And that's part of what defines us as the contemporary steakhouse or continental social cuisine, which is what all of Chef Troy his restaurants are really a celebration of his travels and his coming up throughout the restaurant industry and his life and his career and Chef Troy Gard you talk about I know he's based in Denver, and I've met him so many times because he comes back and forth all the time. He'll be in town this next month

of November. We'll talk about the sect. But just a creative guy and he hires some good people too. I know. He can't be here in your kitchen day to day. So you've got Chef Adam on site, who is a character himself, and it's just the presentation and everything is it's so good. And you know, listen like I do, like a little red

meat, but your fish and just everything else. You talk about tomachi too, it's one of the reasons why I go, because you know, I bring a group of people, they get their phenomenal stakes on your meat board, your meat flatter, which is just something that people continue to talk about. And then I get my great salad, my great martinis. You just you suit the census for everybody. Absolutely. Yeah. And you mentioned those boards. That's something signature we do as well. We call them chin going

boards. It's actually Texas wood. It's a live edge wood that we take and we were able to put a spread of different cuts of meat in front of a guest. And if you've got a party or four or six, it's an opportunity to really try a few different kinds of steaks, seafood and see what we're about all in one visit, so everybody has a little something to try. I only just four or six. I mean I think you have a party of one hundred of board. I mean you do a lot

of restaurant buyouts. I've been to so many private parties because you got it's a it's a two level restaurant. You don't find a lot of two level restaurants, certainly in downtown Houston that is just just equipped for so many parties in terms of your cock deilary over here, your sit down dinners, your presentations. I mean, this space is amazing. It's the location exactly what's the address, because I already got two emails coming in. Where are you?

We're at a five hundred Dallas Street. We're in the Allen Center, downtown intersection of Smith and Dallas. Our la is right out front there and you'll find us in the first floor. You come in and you got our signs right there, and we are fifteen thousand spur feet, so it's a big footprint. It's hard to miss. And like you said, it's two

stories. We've got five different private room configurations, so whether it's eight guests or eighty, we have a way to accommodate him and do everything from birthdays to corporate luncheon and dinners. We're talking to Elliot. What Elliott is the general manager of Guard and Grace. It is downtown, the contemporary steakhouse. So I mentioned the fact that Troy Gard himself is coming to it comes to town regularly, but he'll specifically be here Elliott, and this is what we

call teeming it up for you. On Wednesday, November fifteenth, you guys are celebrating your I can't believe it fourth anniversary because I remember going to your grand opening. Seem like, yesda, your fourth anniversary. You got to get give me the give me the skinny of what's happening that night. Yeah. Absolutely, we are calling this an Ohanna affair. We're celebrating our fourth anniversary and that will be November fifteenth here at Garden Grace. It's a celebration

with some other local chefs. We're collaborating that evening to make a culinary adventure come to light. Chef Troy is going to be joined by Chef hugo Ortega, Aaron Bludorn, Travis McShane, Levi Good Chef Drake Leonards, all amazing chefs here locally in Houston. And then we're benefiting a nonprofit called Kids Meals, Inc. Which is an amazing, amazing foundation whose mission is to end childhood hunger here in Harris County. So all in all and amazing events.

We're going to have passed fights that are created by all the chefs. We're going to have a couple of signature cocktails we create. We're just gonna throw a party. It's going to be a great time. You can find the tickets at Gardengrace dot com. There's seventy five dollars taxi fortuity. So we're looking to bring in, you know, hundreds of people for a celebration like

no other here for our fourth anniversary at Garden Grace. You listed a lot of some chefs that I'm familiar with, Levi Good obviously from Good Company. You got Blue Dorm, which is a hot restaurant in itself. You know right now Hugo or Taga Man, that dude is just got some kara calling up and down. And so it how these collabs work. Does does does

chef Troy Guard do? They They kind of get together and they just have the They sit, they sit like what's the craziest thing that we can come up with or you know, or take obviously, do you want to put your Latin spin on something? And I'm going to put my Denver spin on something. I mean, I'd love to sit in a planning room with that stuff. So you know, that's the real fun part of what we do.

And you know the day of when these events happen, you're going to see these chefs come together with their teams and they've already got what we call a mes setup of what's going to go into the dishes, and they will

team up with actual team members from Guarding Grace. So there'll be a different station set up in the kitchen for each one of these chefs, and they will showcase how to build one of these plated bites as we call it, and then our team will take it from there and reproduce that and make two,

three, four, five hundred different bytes for that chef. So we will have thousands of bites floating the restaurants throughout the event, so you can taste these wonderful creations from each one of these celebrity chefs here in Houston. That's a great way to sample so many things. That plus, also if no one's ever been to Guard Grace, it's a great opportunity for you just to kind of, you know, go in there and take a look around so you can come back again. An Ohana affair. Going back to the

chef, Troy Guard's Ohai Hawaii roots. What's the dress? Man? I need to start planning right now. Do I go talks or do I put a layer around my neck? Where do I go? I'm torn? You know, we will be happy with you being here with whatever you decide to wear. Michael Garfield hijack asks and I'm just happy to be joining us and be in the building. But you know, it is a steakhouse, modern steakhouse, and we just most everybody address is like kind of a casual elegance,

but we're here to have a good time. It's a cocktail party. We're gonna have the patio as well, So if you're leaving work, the event starts at five pm, so you can come ready for like a happy hour vibe and let that spill into the evening as well. Agains, it's actually my business card. I'm ready to go. This is the jet set people. Elliott Wood, general manager of Garden Grace Downtown of the Allen Center. It is Wednesday, November fifteenth, as I take my notes the fourth

anniversary. We've got everybody from Chef Hugo Ortega, Chef Aaron Bludorn, you mentioned Levi Good, Travis McShane, Drake Leonards, and of course the great Troy Guard himself from Garden Grace. Buddy, it is great to catch up with you, and I know I visit your establishment on a regular basis.

It's great seeing your team services top notch. But I cannot wait to November fifteenth because it is going to be game on Elliott, Game on indeed, man, we're looking forward to and it's going to be so much fun having you there too, cha Hey listen, I appreciate it. Time everybody buy their tickets again one more time? Guardandgrace dot com. Is that right? It? That is right, Gardengrace dot com. You can follow us on Instagram or any of the socials as well. can click on and go straight to our ticket site. Seventy five dollars plus tax for tuity. We're throwing a huge party. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I can't wait. Hey, listen, I appreciate your time. All right, go back to cooking, brother, You got it, man, look forward to talking against it really is if listen. People ask me all the time, Hey, Garb man, you know what's going on in town? What do you say to What are some of your favorite restaurants?

And I'll tell you what I ask what part of town you want to go to? In downtown? I probably got two or three on the Weber choire, starting off with Guard and Grace. It Is that good? All right, We're gonna take a break right now because I'm hungry. I gotta get a snack. This is the high tech text and show. You're listening locally on kp RC nine fifty a M Talk radio and around the world on iHeartRadio. Michael gard builds the name. We're gonna be right back final seven

right now. I do appreciate you hanging in here. See how fun it is. Should you be listening for the first time, it's up beats. We don't get too deep into things other than the fact that I do thank you with my first set. Much about the horrific goings on in Israel right now, and we hope that ends absolutely as soon as possible, because it is just horrific in times. But we have to muddle on and take care of business and try to continue to talk and entertain you no matter what it

is. That's why we watch sports, I don't know. It's why we exercise, why we hug our kids, It's why we think about what's happening for Halloween on the holidays, That's why we shopped on Amazon Prime. This world is so big. It's just tough to realize that there's just a lot of crap going on everywhere. So go ahead and hug your kids and try to disseminate what the truth is what's not the truth through the crazy social media.

But we do want to wind up this segment over here, and I thank you to Elliott Would Elliott, longtime frim He now runs Guarden Grace Great Restaurants. They have this wonderful meat tray, the selection to give you like slices of meat. It's a good time for me to remind you if you want to make your own meat at home, the I you really I'm not saying don't go out to your grocery stores and get your meat. But don't

go out to the grocery stores get your meat. You ever actually ordered meat from a real cattle rancher here in Texas and have it delivered to your door and it's up to a side of beef, half a side of beef, quarter side of beef. Have it ready to go when you're refrigerator, a freezer. Thomas Cattle and Catering Thomas, Anthony Thomas, He's been on my show a few times over the past few months. Just find out about it. Anybody wants to come over have some hamburger meat, ribs, steaks,

right, now I'm getting hungry people. All right, what do we wrap up over here? We talked about the Amazon. I got some emails over here. People bought a lot of Amazon Prime stuff. A lot of people seem to be that you waited. This is this. Amazon used to do their Prime Day every year in July, which they did, and now they're holding a second one. This is I think the second or third year they've

done it in October. It was two days earlier this week, but it seems to be because I haven't seen Amazon release any This is how many products we sold, and this is our record deal. I think people now they're so comes customed to waiting for Black Friday deals, which and if you go back to the traditional why do they name it Black Friday? It was the day after Thanksgiving. Black Friday now pretty much is going to start the end

of October or early November. So maybe people I haven't been used the Amazon Prime thing, so anyway, whatever, And so I'm getting all the lot of questions, which product is the best? Did I do the right thing by waiting to buy the earbudgs or the earphones or something before the Black Friday? Yeah, you're fine. You're going to see probably better deals from all these other manufacturers over the next two months. So if you missed out on

Amazon or you're not an Amazon Prime. Remember, fine, good for you. You still got a ton and I'm gonna start counting down that things here in the next give you about two weeks or so off to Halloween. There is a consensus that the number one opall Halloween costume seems to be Taylor Swift

and uh, Travis Kelcey. Want to be funny. If somebody, you know, these kids who in the NFL is just loving the publicity because they're bringing in so many young female viewers to the Kansas City Chiefs NFL game. I want to be funny. If Travis kelce has a brother who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason kelce want to be funny. If Taylor Swift costume and somebody brought a Jason Kelsey Green Eagles shirt versus the Travis Kelcey, they

get it mixed up. Actually would be funnier because I'm so sick of seeing and hearing about the Travis Kelsey Taylor Swift thing. Somebody should go is Jason Kelcey and Rihanna the other Kelsey you know. I think he's married though, so Kenon Barbie is a close Number two and then Barbenheimer, somebody's gonna go half as Barbie and half is Oppenheimer barbon Irick because those movies were released in the same day back in July. So other than that, we've got I'm

getting more emails in tweets over here clowns devils, which is sexy? At what age do you become the sexy nurse versus a nurse? Sadly right now that age is getting young. It's easily in college, if not late high school years all's And by the way, people are already offering to get their excess recees after October thirty first and send them over. I really don't need all that chocolate and peanut butter, but those are the two greatest substances known
