Is Michael garfier of Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining us in the high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is here with a high Tech Texans it to make life easier some of your technology. So Michael Garfield has something you might want, Texas. Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texan. Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the iHeartRadio Act. Now your high Tech Texan, Michael Garfield. I'm going to give you some inside baseball here
being in the media. And by the way, welcome to summer, which officially hit a few days ago. And then Michael is my name. You know, it's the high Tech Texis show. When summer hits. And I'm not just talking when the weather turns in Houston and it gets hot, which was about two months ago. Let's just talk about summer, which is what the summer solcist June twenty or whatever it is. These are the dog days in the media, and I was I had a conversation just a few days
ago. I had lunch with my good buddy here in Houston and Randy Mackaby. Randy is the sports director of flick to Houston Channel two, the NBC Italic, and I was talking to him. I'm like, okay, what do you do now for the next two months. We've got the basketball NBA season's over and football season is not there, even though the mini camps and in the Texans raining season will start soon. The Astros are are not doing well. They're traveling this specific specific week. What do you do for stories?
And were sitting there laughing at it. He goes, man, I'll tell you what you know. Obviously, the Olympics are coming up for NBC, so he's trying to find some Houston area you know, stories, sports stories and what have you. But he said, it's it's it's pretty dry. I laughed too, because for me the stuff that I covered, I cover a lot of consumer products obviously, and that's why you tune in and ten tech products and whatever. These are also the dog days this summer there.
Obviously, it's not the holiday shopping season that doesn't start for several months. It's not even back to school season that's probably at least another month away. Right now, there hasn't been a lot of technology news, new product announcements and launches. Now that we are about two to three weeks away from something coming up, but there's not a lot of stuff. This is where in Randy and I need a lot of my other co orts in media.
We realize that this is where you earn your money. This is where the BS degree that you earned in college does not stand for Bachelor of Science. You've got to fill some time, and that's what I'm here to do for you. Two hours for you, my friends. I do thank you for tuning in if you are listening live as we do. And I found out actually that I know even though we do the show plausibly live here Saturdays eleven am in the wanting till one pm in the afternoon, two hours, we
do repeat this show, not once, but also twice. I had a a friend of mine shout out to doctor Allen Pans the Eye Doctors to the Stars. He's texting me last Sunday afternoon he goes, hey, man, good show are you live? I'm like, what are you talking about it? So apparently if there's filler time here on KPRC Radio with the flagship talk station in Houston at iHeartMedia, they rerun two hours of this wonderful content. I am here for you, though, it's seven one three, two one
two five nine five zo. Feel free to call in and you can ask almost ask me anything. Yes, this is my real hair. I have never died it at my age. I'm gonna flaunt it. I got some gray coming in, but I'm very proud of it. Travel we got caught. One of the things that I still do. I do review vehicles every single week. I do a vehicle, not from a dealership. I go straight with the manufacturer. They deliver it to my house. It's a nice little I'm not saying perk. It's a content that I actually get to do.
And so this week we are in a fiery fast special edition Ford Mustang stick Shift, which is not my favorite thing to do, but it's a sexy it's a looker. So if you see this big old aloud Ford Musting, zoom and buy you. Odds are that could be me this week. For the next few days I will talk about that. But also if you do, if you're in the mood or in the mode to buy a vehicle, a suv, maybe it's a minivan, don't laugh, Maybe if it's a sports car. Odds are I have test droven it and I've got my
thoughts. You can call me, you could ask me my thoughts. You can also go to the podcast. You can go to Spotify or Apple or iHeartRadio and look for high tech texting. You spell the whole thing out, and then you can listen to me go about. I'm anywhere between eight to ten minutes of talking about cars, the good parts, the bad parts. And again that's not a sponsored thing, so I definitely talking about the bad
parts of what can be improved in some of these vehicles. So that, my friends, is how you can trust me that we're gonna app about this week. We actually do have some car news. Fisker. You ever heard of Fisker anyone? It's it's the latest EV startup to declare bankruptcy. M boy that some of these EV car companies. Man, they are having a tough row ahead. You know my thoughts on EV If you're a longtime lister of mine, I will give you the breakdown on that. We will talk
about it. In Vidia. In Vidia is in a one of the greatest fights between Microsoft over who is which one is the most valuable company in the world. Over the past three or four weeks, it's gone back and forth in video Microsoft, Apple was kind of in there. In Vidia overtook the number one most valuable position, the most valuable company in the world earlier this week, and then about two days ago he gave it back to Microsoft because
the stock dropped a few percentage points. I still hitting myself. I've heard of Nvidia years and years ago, and you know they make those computer chips that process the AI, the artificial intelligence. I have no clue why I didn't best anything in that years and years ago, because I wouldn't be wasting I mean, spending my Saturday after Dudon's here with you. We've got that in a few other controversial lot of things. But I'd love to hear of
your opinion. If you're just driving around, you're sitting in the pool. I gave you the phone number. You can hit me on all of the platforms of social media, which is called high tech text and h I G H T E C H T E X A N. You probably if you follow me, saw that I have been doing some travel. I got a few weeks of fun of coming travel with some announcements, a little vacation here and there. I just got back from a nice long time in my favorite
spot in the United States of America, so cow. I was out there playing with my son who lives out there, running along the beaches, driving around, shopping clothes, shopping. Man, it's awesome. We're sitting here in almost one hundred degree weather and I'm not getting you. Just a few days ago, I am on the beaches just around LA and I am wearing a a light jacket in the middle of the day and at night, I'm putting on a heavier jacket. I mean, it is just the cool weather.
It is fun. Listen, you know me. I don't get into politics. I'm not talking about red states blue states. I don't even know which what red is and what blue is. I'm the simple, fun guy, okay. And I know the taxes are just astronomical. I laugh how expensive the price of gas is out there. But dang man, it is just beautiful weather, great sites. One day, one day, I am waiting for a game the game show Network to call MEY said, Garth,
you're moving out here. You were going to host something, and we're going to give you benefits, unlike any other radio station around here does. Anyway, I came back from California. When we come back here, California actually just passed your governor out there, Governor Gavin Newsom. He actually wants to do something that has to do with schools, and it's coming from states. A lot of states have done this, but I want to get your take
on this. That's just why I brought to mind and I asked something to do with your kids who go to school. This is something that older generation like myself, we never had to worry about this when we were in school, but nowadays there's things to think about. That's one of the things. I'm gonna make you have some fun, make you hang on for the next two or three minutes. Why you listen to some of these great commercials on KPRC nine to fifty am, don't go anywhere because of these high tech text
in show is gonna come right back. That's right, just like that big boy, said mister Michael Garfield. That's the name seven one three two two five nine five. Oh you want to say hi? You want to you're looking for a product. I am actually looking for a product myself. People just think that I know everything, well, I kind of do. No, no, no, no, no. I know a little about a lot of things, which I think is better than a lot about a little
things. One of the things that I am looking for and I'm doing some research, it's I need a new wireless microphone. Seah. So many of us use our phones to videotape things like you influencers out there. One of the key things to making a very very good video. Yes, you need lighting. And I learned this when I was in Radio Intellivision Film you know this school, be rgiyeh. You need lighting, but you need good audio. You absolutely need good audio. And now I remember studying the different types
of microphones, like the one I'm speaking through. Now you know, is it is it a cardioid, is it omnidirectional? Is it unidirectional? Here nowadays we record things on our phone. I do a lot of videotaping either for my social media. I do a lot of stuff for Great Day Houston on Channel eleven that I shoot on my phone, which by the way, I use a Samsung Galaxy because they have phenomenal cameras. But you need some
audio. And I've had a wireless microphone, but I kind of busted the other day, well bust a few weeks ago, and I need a new one. So I'm researching around so far, there's an expert that I trust, probably more than anybody, and it's my youngest son, who, by the way, happy early birthday to him. He's turning twenty four this week. He is one of these young influencers. But he's also in sports marketing
and he does really really funny videos on Instagram and TikTok. Got a massive following, got a great job, and he has a lot of equipment in one of which is a wireless lab of airer Mike. He suggested for me to get some Amazon wireless mic for like twenty nine dollars, and it's tough to beat something like that, and I know it works because he sounds great. I then ask another buddy of mine who does the same thing that I do. He's based in Los Angeles. I was with him last week.
We were hanging. He does, He's got a show on iHeart. He also does some stuff on TV in Los Angeles. He recommended a microphone from Dji Good Company does drones, does cameras. That's only two hundred and fifty dollars. I mean, it's the disparity between the price is incredible. You got twenty nine dollars. You got two undred and fifty dollars. But interesting enough, what's the quality disparity? See, these are the things that I
review, and I will let you know it doesn't matter what countigord. Maybe it's a car. You know, a two seater sports car is not the same thing as this two seater sports car. You know, maybe one is you know, one hundred thousand dollars and more. You know, you can buy a two seater sports car for thirty five forty thousand dollars. Where there's a lot of disparity between these two things. And so going back to the microphone, probably gonna order both of these, and I will give you the
play by play the p BIP of which one is better? And if listen, if one of the things that I've done since I've created the high tech Deextion brand for you know a lot, I be doing this twenty two plus years. I'm here to save you money. I am here to if I can find a product that will enhance your life and hance your business. But it's not gonna cost you no arm and a leg. There's two products and their name brands are off name brands, and you're gonna save on one,
go for it it. I realized this when I used to use a lot of Sony products. And I'm not ragging on Sony. Sony's just a phenomenal company in so many different categories. Some hew, they're in video games with Sony PlayStation. They've got cameras, they've got phones, they've got ag. He goes on and on and on, but always, you know, when it comes to cameras, there are another a number of different like video cameras
that I found that are a lot cheaper. They still got great lenses and they work just as well, and they're a percentage less than those things. And so I started when I just, you know, did this twenty years ago, like I need to find something. I mean, I'm not going to sit here and tell everybody out there to go out and get a you know, a car that cost six figures. I don't want you to go get a TV that's you know, ten twenty, fifteen thousand dollars or something
like that. Where you can get a TV right now that's great for five, six, seven hundred dollars. So I look at price too, So no that that's one of the things that that I do. And so if you've got a question, you got a product. Be at laptops, be at cars, be at bourbon, be it travel. I like to think I have something here for you. I tech tax and spell the whole thing
out. If you're too shy a call, you could put it on X formally known as Twitter, which I think the official title of that entire company is X formally known as Twitter, because that's how so many people and companies referred to it. Told you just got back from California, California. I saw this Gavin Newsom, who is the good looking dude by the way, good look at don't know anything about his politics. I'm sure it's totally opposite what we have here in Texas, but not the point he's put He wants
to do something in schools. He issued a statement in support of efforts aiming to restrict the use of smartphones in schools in the state of California. Smartphones to school. So gave a speech to the La Unified School District to vote a passive proposal for the school phone band, and he said he's gonna work with lawmakers to restrict the use of smartphones during the school day because children and teens quote should be focused on their studies, not their screens. Unquote.
Now he mentioned and he agreed with the US Surgeon General. I forgot we had one of those here. I think he's still wears that Captain Crunch outfit or whatever. The Surgeon General said that social media platforms should be required to
display warning labels because they can significantly harm teenagers' mental health. US Surgeon General VIVEK Mercy, I believe is his name, and he said that requires congressional action to regularly remind parents and adolescents that social media has not been proved safe. And again this comes from the US Surgeon General. What say you do? Tech it in again? My kids are and my kids are out of collge day. I did not have this problem obviously what I was in school.
You know why phones weren't bad, but because quite simply, phone cords were not long enough to stretch from your house to the school. Yep, I just aged myself. Did not. Now, my kids went through high school. They were at an interesting age. They had cell phones when no, I mean, I guess we got them cell phones when they were I don't know, ten, eleven, twelve years old. And it was isn't that big of it. But certainly my oldest son will be here's another agent.
My son's going to be thirty later this summer. He really didn't have my cell phone and probably until he was late in high school. But there was no policies. What do you as a parent believe? And again, this is a technology been the technological spin because it's smartphones. What do you do? How do you even monitor this stuff? I mean think about this. Do you do you walk into your schools, which I know a lot of now sadly have metal detectors. Do they detect your phone? Do they
take it? Do they put it in a locked up zipluck bag in the office? How do you take it away? Okay, I got another one. And these are questions I don't know, but parents, you may be able to help me and my listeners out. All right. Now you've got a smart watch? Are they banned? Well, if you've got a smartphone that's bluetooth connected to your smart watch and they take up your smartphone and it's relatively low to your smart watch, you still can get text, You still
could do a number of things on your watch. Do they take up that too? These are difficult time. The LA Board members. They ultimately did pass the proposal for a phone ban. I think two members voted against it, one of them one person who said no, he is I think his reason it was because teachers already have difficulty imposing existing restrictions in schools. Really,
let's get into the gun discussion. Lord, Actually let's not. But he said the parents need to be able to contact their children during emergencies like school shootings, echoing of the concerns of parents who opposed phone bans in the past. That is something that we that I a child who went to elementary school in the seventies, that's something that we rarely, if ever. I do not remembering school shooting, do you. It's I mean, I'm glad. I really am glad. I do not have kids who are in school
anymore nowadays. I can't imagine when my kids they have kids, what are they going to face. It's an interesting rule. Let's say you, let's hear from me. We take a break. Seven one three, use your use your smartphone. School is not in session because it's summer seven one three, two one two five ninety five. Oh, Michael Garfield is today beyond the high Tech Texan show. Bottom of the first hour of the High Tech Texting Show. It's Miguel, It's MITHI l whatever you want to call me.
Don't call me any for dinner. Actually tell you what you want. You want, why don't you call me. Here's what we're gonna do. This is what radio does. We give away stuff. It entices you. Let's give away some dinner or lunch. Cabo Bob's love it. They are so nice. Twenty five dollars gift card, ninth caller right now seven one three, two, one two five nine five Oh. Cabo Bobs are out
of Austin, four locations around the Houston area. If you want fresh sleep, I mean, they're tortillas in front of your face, five different kinds. You could just go down the line. You could stuff anything you want into it. They've got tacos, they've got the brito bowls. They've got burritos so good. Don't sleep on their fried fish tacos. Phenom twenty five dollars gift guard is for you. That's how nice these people are. They will love me because I used to go in Austin all the time. My
son who lives there, he goes all the time. And so you can find me there at least twice, maybe three times a week. Get it to go, good caseo, good chips, good gualk. It's nice stuff. And so ninth caller, which we all we may already out right now, congrat some of the twenty five dollars gift guard this. It was a sneak attack man. This is why you usually listen to me. Never third
off the Michael Garfield HTT Show here, never do it. Which I go back from California, which, by the way, they actually they have some decent California Mexican food. Here's another debate. Here's an evergreen debate. You know, how is a hot dog or sandwich which I'm not getting into. Can it be called tex Mex when you're not in Texas? Because California has got some great taka's g really good taco giants. And they think, they go, oh, it's tex Mex. And I'm thinking, is texts part
of the word Texas or Texan? What's it doing in California? I call it Calimex. Neither here, neither there. They cupa bobs is still beattery. Whatever it is. They did it good, have some good food out there. Got back in California, did some great running, a little snack, and a lot of shopping. It was beautiful. Do you know what they have in abundance? Let me tell you what the state of because I frequent that great stay, fun to visit Sun lives there. There's a number
of things that California has in abundance. Yes, traffic number one, hey, number two, great weather, beautiful weather, high sixty degrees, low seventy degree. I mean it's high of seventy degrees, seventy one seventy two. Did some great running up in other beaches. They got a lot of sand at the beach, a lot of pretty women, a lot of pretty men, a lot of pretty people who don't have their original parts of noses and faces and hair. Probably one of the reasons why I probably wouldn't fit
out there on a regular basis. But the thing that caught my continues to catch my eye. There are a lot of electric vehicles out there. There are a lot of evs, and I mean it's not even funny, and it's not just your tesla's. They've got Rythons and they have Fiskers. Even though breaking news, Fisker justin nounce bankruptcy. They've got lucid, and obviously they've got a lot of the forward cars, a lot of the GM manufactured
cars that are also electric too. And I'm standing im getting ready across the street and across the street and here comes in a EV car and believe it, I was relatively quiet. I think it was at night, and I hear this hum as there as they're going by, and it was a neat topic that I thought. It was like something that that I don't know if a lot of people know, but evs are required to emit a sound at
low speeds so they can alert pedestrians. And the one that went buzzing by me, and I forget right now which manufacturer it was, but most of the sounds describe you can can describe them as kind of like a flying saucer
of hum and what is that thing? And for years and I did some study just for you here we got but automakers they've really been fussing over the sounds that are emitted by their electric vehicles, and a lot of companies they try to tune them in a way that presents maybe a futuristic sound, but not alienating to people who are used to the rev of a four cylinder engine, and it seems that they've settled on sound that would be between a hum and a whirr? Is it a flying sauce? Is it is? I
don't know anybody ever heard these things. So there was an online survey. Who did this, serve a cloud research agency, cloud Army. They deserve a some adults in the nis US. They found the top rated sound was a non tonal sound, something closely resuming a gas powered car than any of the inorganic sounds that are omitted by today's evs. And it's it's funny because what sound would if you could create a sound for an EV what would it be? Open phone lines here two one two five nine five O seven one
three two one two five nine five. Oh. I think it was a Mercedes that I had. It was the electric Mercedes about a month ago, and I was test driving this thing and it's interesting when you unlock it, there's this music that comes up. I'm not kidding you. There was this mute, yusical tone and it, you know, maybe it was like a three second four a sec of tone. And I'm thinking, why can't the whole thing, damn thing play a song when you're rolling by How is it
different than you going down the road and you've got a car. How many times has this happen to you? You've got a dude who just wants to just blast his his base out and it's just loud, and it's like turning that thing down and you can hear it for you know, twenty yards behind you, in twenty yards. You know it didn't in front of you. You know, it doesn't have to be a heavy metal song, you know, you know, maybe you know, maybe it could be something by ya,
maybe a little Barry Manilow song or something like that. Wouldn't be fun if a vehicle had speakers outside and whatever you're listening to, we'll play inside. It would play outside, not at a high level, but just to let pedestrians know. I thought they were interesting. I thought, thought was it? Do you look at this? BMW hired famed film composer at Hans Zimmer to formulate soundscapes I love that day soundscapes for its eye for electric sedans
and Mercedes. They just teamed up with Will I Am, you know, the Black Eyed Peas to create an interactive musical experience. Maybe that was what he will I Am created. What I heard the Fiat five hundred e emidst literal classical music at low speeds. I remember it was it Dodge. Dodge branded its own fake engine noises as an exhaust system. I mean, think
about it. Dodge is known for muscle cars, and if you use a muscle car, I mean, if you've got a charger, if you've got a challenge, you want that, you buy a muscle car for that hemmie engineer. But now they're coming out with evs. What are you to be putts on along at street and you're gonna get no noise? So they created I think it was a speaker that goes outside to create a fret sonic chambered
exhaust system. I mean, you never know it's real. It's like when you when you walk into you walk into a leather store in the mall. If you used to this and you smelled leather ever everywhere, well you think you smelled leather because they sell leather. Oh they got leather coats, jackets, purses and everything. But in reality, many of those stores they pumped in leather smell. You can pump in smell. You ever go to a casino's casino smell beautiful Oh, it's like flowers and stuff. You ever go
to a cookie store. I'm out. I'm out in Orange County, California last week with my son and my favorite outdoor mall or Fashion Island, and there was a line I am not kidding you, in front of a cookie store that must have been fifty people deep in the middle of the afternoon, and I'm thinking, well, are there drugs are legal? Like, while some drugs are legal in California, what are they put drugs in these cookies? Well, we walked by real closely and there was a smell of cookies
that you just wanted to just start licking the cement. I mean, it was phenomenal. And my son's smart enough to know he goes. You know what they do, They pump out the smell of their ovens. So point is, you never know. It's really you never know it's it's not so if for some reason, you have an ev or you're a pedestrian getting ready to cross the street by an ed and you don't hear anything you hear, or you hear some humming or worrying or maybe a will I am toune odds?
Are that's it? Anybody got any suggestions for these things that would be fun to actually pump your own music. But again that is all. It is a requirement because it is very dangerous if you're impaired vision, you don't know anything's coming. Like a typical engine, you do need some of that stuff. Seven one, three, two, two nine five Olt. Let's play a little bit music right now, or we take one final break for our first hour here on the Michael Garfield Show. Final later nine minutes of
the first hour of the High Tech Texan Show. It's Garth. We had a winner for the Cabo Bob's a gift card. Uh so, uh, congratulations to uh whoever won that. We do those each week and you never know. Companies call me, hey, Michael Man, you want to give us something away. I'm like, yeah, maybe I gotta I gotta taste it first, then we can give some of that stuff away. So I don't know. We got another hour in eight minutes or so, so we
may give away a little something something. But you would like to give a big shout out to us coins and jewelry. Love those guys over there. I ten Katie Freeway at Voss just on the south side. Kenny Duncan Matt Duncan, the entire family. It's been there for Jenner with this is the second generation and that they're doing. Yes, if you're a coin collector, no better time to actually start the start kids, get kids collected. Be
a neumsmatist. I'm a philatalist, which actually is not that bad a thing. I've been a stamp collector. That's a philtal list of my grandparents actually got it, got me into that when I was a little kid. And if you want to get your kids into a coin collecting, which really it's a very interesting hobby, no better place to start than US coins and jewelry. Always see people schlepping. There are tons, hundreds of pounds of coins.
They bring them in wagons to get them appraised. You could buy coins, but it's also jewelry too, beautiful Rolex watches and tennis bracelets, Texas memorababilia, sports memorabilia. Two could not be nicer folks. And for some reason, you're listening on iHeartRadio and you're not in Houston. Well, you can do everything online US Coins and Jewelry dot com. I know you're gonna tell them, tell them Garf Center. There's a lot of Michaels, who
speak for I'm but tell them garf cent you they're too cool. So and I know they're open Saturday right now, so they're listening to me. They're listening to the show. Open six days a week. Apparently they take the Chick fil A route. They are closed on Sundays, so good for them. As we continue, we were last segment, we were talking about ed cars, electric vehicles, and when I was in California last week, man,
they were just dime a dozen. This one is indeed different companies that I saw one or tude that wasn't even I've never even heard of heard of. However, I did see one or two of a company that and when I got back two days ago, realized they're not in good position because they just went bankrupt. Fisker anyone ever heard of Fisker. Fisker just bit the dust. They declared bankruptcy Chapter eleven protection, trying to restructure its debt and
sell its assets. And Fisker has been around quite a while. They made I'm using the past ends right, They made sexy cars. One was called the Alaska EV. One was called the Ocean Suv. They actually they released some numbers over here. Where is the number? Oh? Here we go. They revealed that they had produced ten thousand units of its one EV that was available. They produced it, They produced ten thousand, they only delivered forty nine hundred. That's that's not a good. That's not good. That's
it's like a fifty percent adding average or shooting average. And the others are just sitting there. What was it? It was an interesting sexy car. My guess it's just eds. You know. I have a source who runs and owns a car dealership here in Houston, several of them and some of which sell evs. And again I'm gonna call him an unknown resource and source that he sends me texted like what's happening in the industry, And it's not great. There's a lot of EV's just sitting around for one reason of the
other. And you know my reason why, I personally, and this is me, I'm personally, I am not I don't have the lifestyle that I want an EV. Any given point, I'm gonna pop in the car and I'm gonna go to Austin, I'm gonna go to I'm gonna go to Dallas to see my parents. And it it as someone who has has ADHD and
has anxiety or range anxiety of how far the range is. I really don't want to sit there and try to find a charger halfway up by forty five and sit there for anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour and a half charge of a damn car. Don't want to do that. That's not me. I think they're great. I think a lot of evs are phenomenal cars. They are a familest man. They're they're quiet, They obviously they Electricity does cost money too when you charge it, but it's sometimes it's a lot cheaper
than gas. But until our charging infrastructure here in the United States changes, I personally don't want one. Going back to the Fisker thing, the decision to file for Chapter eleven protection, Fisker can just it adds itself to the ranks of other EV startups that have filed for bankruptcy also in the last year or two. One is called Volta, it's a truck Volta. There's another one which I'm not even familiar with. It's called Lordstown Motors. Lordstown Motors.
They're gone bankrupt, man. And I can understand when you have got a major brand of an auto manufacturer that has generations of experience, like a General Motors like Ford, like a Stilantis, which obviously owns that they have Jeep, they have Dodge, they have Ram, they know how to make vehicles. Then you've got these companies who are probably created and led by a former executive from some of these traditional companies, and they think they can make
it on the wrong. It's not easy man to go through the production of a vehicle, to make the process, and make the warranties and the guarantee and just and then have the dealership infrastructure to do with this stuff. And I know the dealership into infrastructure for eeds, it's a lot of it is long gone. Tesla Now you don't go through a dealership. He goes straight through Tesla. You go through a lot of these Elucid also, But it is not an easy thing to start the fact that and again I'm not trying
to rag on Tesla. I know it's a Texas based company, whether your friend, your fans or not. Of Elon Musk. It was a company that never produced any vehicles before. Now they produced, but they were first to market and he kept them over. They kept the price relatively low. However, yes, a lot of them are having some issues and recalls. They're laying off some people. It's an industry that is very, very tough. And so I say this is because as a consumer host reporter of everything
that does cover the auto industry. I am on the Texas Auto Writers Association board. I drive, I test drive vehicles for fifteen plus years. I know I've had the plevage of meeting the industry executives, the marketers, the designers for many, many years. It is a tough row to hoe. It was very tough during the COVID years. The supply chain, the lack of cars and dealership plots. Now there's almost too many young dealership plots. It's a It's an interesting segment. And I say this, be careful,
do your research before you buy. Maybe you're going to get a zero percent financing. Hey, that's a hell of a deal. But is it a vehicle that you really really want? How long is the warranty? Okay? But what about Fisker? Wait, maybe you just bought one. It's got a great warranty. What happens when the company goes out of business too? Sometimes it's very good to stick to brand names. And I said this many many times, like, yeah, he used to be with laptops and televisions.
You know, uh, you know, Sony, Tshiba, Samsung. You know you're gonna buy these TVs And I'm gonna go back fifteen plus years ago versus some of these smaller ones that that probably were produced in the same you know, Taiwanese factories as you know, the big name ones. But you did they have the same parts inside, did they have the same warranty? And at that point, I said, you know what, it's probably better to stick with those brand names. I think when it comes to cars,
do you really want a track record? You really want to follow it? So my advice to you there you go, here's some more advice. We're gonna take a break. It's gonna you know, we're gonna cross over the the middle hour here locally, live here in the Houston area. It is gonna be new. And if you're listening to this at some other day park, you got one more hour to go hang with us another five, six, seven minutes. We're gonna have our number two of the high Textans
show. The name is Garth. What's going on is Michael Garfier of Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining US and the high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield is here with a high Tech Texans. It was to make life easier some new technology. So Michael Garfield has something you might want. Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texan. Three decades helping you make magic with your gadgets occurred worldwide on the iHeartRadio Act. Now your high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield. Check
the time, my friends. Halfway through this show. We call this halfway and a halfy hour of the high Tech Texan Show. It is officially summer June twentieth five. I did so. It's a summer solstice. Actually, I call them a summer sweats or the summer fitziness people, because it is already nasty here around the state of Texas. If you are listening from other cooler parts of the country via iHeart Radio, such as California, where I just came from, why did I come back? Why did I come back?
It is so nice and cool out there, but where you are, I do thank you for tuning in. Had a fun first hour. Gave away gift car to Cabo Bob's. I did miss that one. I was traveling though. Great burritos, great tacos. Check out Cabo Bob's out of Austin for locations here in and around the H Town area. I don't know. Maybe we'll give another gift card away. I don't know. We should
check calum check on that we may have some in the goodie bag. I did answer a few questions about cars and vehicles to talk to, had a segment or two about EV's and again one of the things that I also review and rate, recommend or not recommend, I used the electric vehicles mention that Fisker has filed for bankruptcy. Fisker came out with one electric vehicle. That
whole car company went nowhere. Because one of the things that I do to do, along with computer and phones and watches and things, man, I travel. I could rate my bourbon in your tequila, and I could do the union. I'm a big car guy, vehicle guy. I'm a member of the Texas Auto Riders Association, which means that I could do test drive a vehicle every single week of the year, at least one and actually this
week luckily, so sorry, I hate using it. I do not have an EV I have the opposite of an ev I think I can consider this a muscle car. For some reason, you hear a very loud sound five Leader v A V eight zooming around town and you see a Ford Mustang, but it looks a little different. Odds are that's me this past this current week, I have been tooling around in a twenty twenty four Ford Mustang.
Wait a minute, Oh, it's not just a Ford Mustang for all you big himmy, I'd actually hit me because that's a dodgeby for all you big, supercharged, big old, you know, loud car guys and girls. I'm in a twenty twenty four Ford Mustang dark Horse. That's right. It is a special edition Ford bus that called the dark Horse. It is a coop, it's a two door four seedar car, and it is loud. It is a five Leader V eight engine hop speed one hundred and sixty six
miles an hour. Five one ski is it? I just make sure I think it's five hund sky horsepower. It's pretty, it's pretty, it's pretty sick. If you've never seen one, got to go to the Ford website. And again, this is not an endorsement. This is me because there's some things I like this. Some things I don't like about it. It's it's kind of a relatively small front seat, especially for a six foot tall guy. From the outside, it looks very racy. It's got that kind
of the racing stripe on the front hood. It's got a really cool spoiler back, got some unbelievable great tires. It's got some brimbo break calipers, big exhaust, four and a half inch tips exhaust, moony projection lamps, and got some neat tail lamp LEDs. Yeah, if you if you like fast, if you like speedy, pretty cool. It's the dark Horse. I don't know. Did they have to licenses from Katy Perry. Yeah. I wasn't familiar with it until it turned up. But it's it's louder.
Generally mustangs aren't this loud. They don't have that five liter V eight And uh, this is if you want power, this is it. Uh, sitting in it, you sit down, you turn it on. It's got a red launch start button, actually the red star button you turn it on. This one was a manual. Now there's big coming manual. They come
in automatic manuals are a little bit less expensive than this. I'm not the biggest fan of manual and I and I had this discussion about two or three weeks ago, didn't I It was, I don't know why manual transmissions are still made nowadays. Sitting in traffic with a manual transmission, you hit the clutch. It is a pain in the You know what, most all cars now that produce they're automatic. You put it in drive and you're set to go. This one is it's that was listen. I'm not holding your back.
Visit to some people who do like the main a car like this, a big muscle car, odds are it potentially should be manual transmissions, But you also want to open this thing up. And then if you're sitting slipping around, you know, Loop six ten, you're going down you know, Highway fifty nine or up and down I forty five at rush hour, you're not gonna be able to open up this bad boy that much. But it is a it's nice, it's good. You know. Listen, it's a
board Mustang, relatively small trunk. The back seat good luck if you get into it, because again it's a two door, four seater, so I think they've put those two seats in the back. Really maybe just for insurance purposes, going oh yeah, it's a four seater. It's not really a quot unquote supports car price. Not the cheapest thing, but if you want one, they are roughly fifty eight thousand to sixty thousand dollars. The manual
is gonna cost about fifty eight fifty nine thousand dollars. The automatics done cost about sixty one thousand dollars. They are for sale. They are limited. But it was fun. It's still as fun rolling around in this thing. Six speed manual. And they have a dark Horse and they have dark Horse Premium, and you feel free to go check this stuff out. Yes, there there are some things that I could approve. I mean the Ford Sync system. It's a nice touch screen that it's about. It's about a it's
good, almost a twelve inch horizontal, it's about it. They got a great cluster, but it's anywhere between a ten or twelve inch touchscreen good. For some reason, I don't think I turned up the brightness, but to me it needs to be a little brighter. You can hear it when you when you roll up. I think it's a head turner. The you just have to this is something consider if you want an American Maid muscle car before they all are converted to hybrids or evs, this is still out there.
It's a nice price to pay. There are some Ford dealerships over here. If you're familiar with this car, go test drive one of these things. But I love that V eight engine. You don't see these things a lot because it has a VA because it's relatively a light car. Lightweight car. Uh the way, you know, if you if you've actually waived the thing, it is going to zoom. It zooms quickly, so that there's my thing. I actually prefer this over those evs because you know, why will
you run out of gas or getting low on gas? There is a gas station or two or three or four on almost every corner, and you really don't need a wait to fill it up versus those evs. Man, Good luck finding one winner on the road. We can have this debate. Oh you want seven to one three two one two five nine five O sept Ford Mustang dark Horse anywhere fifty eight sixty one thousand dollars. Good, go get one. If you got one, let's rate if you can get into If
you have one, now let me not. We'll go racing. Find me a track. I'll get out there and have some fun with you, all right, Coming after this break, we're going to talk about the world's number one or is the number two most valuable company? Ah, there is a race. It's a fight and it's not going to be finished anytime soon. But damn man, mindy, I buy stock in this company. I'll tell you what that is after the break, just after lunchtime here in the h
down at Houston every year on hot Saturday. Michael is my name? What are you guys eating for lunch or snacks? Hey? But anybody a Krispy Kream fan? Chris Kie kreamans? I don't believe it. There's not anywhere Krispy Kreams left in Houston. I remember they came into the market ten years ago and I lived kind of near one. Man, those are good, and I don't eat donuts, you know me. Listen, you listen to
me. You know I try to be about as healthy as possible. And if you want to cheat meal a donut, man, it's tough to be. I think donuts are one of the most awesome foods in the world. If I eat one donut a year, line over unders one and a half done. It's eighty year. It's just because I did not need that fat. Krispy Kremes were good. Krispy Kreme is angering people here in the US.
I saw this story and I don't even know why I'm talking about this, because I think it It could be a brilliant, brilliant marketing move on krispy Kreme, because krispy Kreme has locations all across the cunt, all across the world, not just here in the US. So krispy Kreme just came out with four new donut flavors to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Friends, the TV show Friends the Big, the iconic nineties sitcom. It's celebrating his thirtieth
anniversary. For some reason I don't know, krispy Kreme came out with donuts that are decorated like Friends. It's got the logo, It's got the central perk, you know, that little place they hung out. I mean, it's got the little picture frame that was hanging on the inside of their apartment, you know, and the people pretty cute. But get this, krispy Kreme is only offering these in the UK. They are not offering them in the Great United States of America. Now, chris Greek Kream is based in
North Carolina. Last I checked, that's America. They're not saying why they're not available over here. Kind of confusing decision making process. Friends was a huge show here in the US. Yes, it was international too, without a doubt, off break the Chrispy So Krispy Kreen fans are angered to me, I don't know. It's a phenomenal marketing scheme because they got an idiot like me to give Krispy Krem and Friends about a minute a half, two
minutes worth of time here on my radio show. Odds are at some point they're gonna say, Okay, we're going to release in the United States and then you're gonna have to go find for Krispy Kreme, which you're gonna have to get on an airplane for right now. Also donuts ever, Voodoo donuts? You like Voodoo donuts, callum calum ry here on the other side of the glass. You like vo Voo Doo donuts are good, aren't they from
Oregon? And I've had a few voodoo done and not a ton over the years, so I know there's one in Austin I think that was the first one I had a few years ago. I think there's at least one. Is there two locations here? These donuts are so over the top. And again this is not a commercial form. It's not an endorsement because there's so much fat in them. It's not even funny. They're over the top. It's like a personalized cake. The decorations, the things that are inside the
cookies, of the cream, the chocolate, peanut butter. They look great. I know they taste great. I don't need it. And all these cookie stores that are popping up to Crumble. Who's been to Crumble. I got a friend of mine, she and her husband love Crumble, and there was only one Crumble out in for Bend County where I am, and she used to drive twenty minutes from home to get these Crumble cookies. Now there's one, particularly like five minutes from us. They live nearby. I've had
two bites of a Crumble cookie. And they sell these things. They pack their like gold, and I think their price is God know, igned to call Kenny Dunking at the US going to enjoy what's the price of gold right now? Twenty five hundred and ounce stuff like that. I say, crumble cookies are just expensive as that they're good, though. What's the best dessert out there? What is the best dessert line? And I'll tell you.
Let me give you my opinion right here if you hit me up a high tech text and h I G h T e h T e x A M. I'm for bound best dessert And right now, Dairy Queen Blizzard not an endorsement. Dairy Queen does not exist because I get a press release. The Dairy Queen people send me a press release not about once a month with the flavor of the month. And I don't talk about it a lot because I was just getting ticked to myself, going, oh, it's the peanut butter
shorklid Blizzard. I need one, So I don't. I just kind of like delete it, and I think and callum, I know you're gonna hate me and everybody back here in the studio. I think they've offered to bring blizzards in studio and I have not said yes. Don't hate me. Don't hate me, baby, don't hate me for being healthy. I know I can have him bring him in and then they could and you guys could eat
him too. But I mean, there is just something. But and again, over a undred number of blizzards that I have in a given year, I'll go two and a half, maybe two and a half. I could eat him twice a day, but it again, I would also by boys size. Would you don't even hear that number? Nope, can't do it. I have self control. Laura Brannigan, Okay, we got a Katie Brannigan mention a Katy Perry and Laura Brannigan mentioned here. I do have self
self control. Open phone lines over here seven to one three two one two, five nine five best dessert and you know, if you want to go, oh mom, maybe mom makes the great greatest cheesecake, which, by the way, I don't know my parents are listening right now in Dallas. My mom does make the greatest cheesecake that I had going up. She has not made this cheesecake. And I'm not kidding fifteen to twenty years great cheesecake.
But if you can go anywhere in Houston in the country and you just just I want a dessert, man, and you can give me ice cream flavor, but over a poundful pound man, just give me a freaking dairy green blizzard. I'm a simple man. I'm a simple man. Said that. That's said seven one three, two one two five, nine to five. Oh, that is how you're gonna get me. Uh, how about
this. You're gonna need to buy some stock if you want to buy some of these Crumble cookies or some of these Voodoo dots, because they're not expensive. I've talked about this in the past few weeks because it's been fun watching Invidia, the chip maker that makes the chips for computers that go into all the AI power computers in Vidia. When I said this two or three weeks ago in Vidia, I announced that in Vidia had to cross number three most
valuable company in the world of Apple. They were at number two, only behind Microsoft, raking new it earlier this week, in Vidia crossed over Microsoft losed it three point three trillion dollars as the value of the company of the market capitalization surpassed that of Microsoft. Then you believe that, however, Microsoft's market value slipped in videos also slipped in Vidia's slid back today or yesterday to
the number two. This is going to be fun to watch, and actually it's going to be hard to watch because I have followed in video for many years. I know they've been a ship maker. It's not sexy. It's not like I talk to them a lot. It's not like a product that you can just go out and buy for the heck of it. But I remember seeing them at cees gook hmm. And of course now I'm hitting my head. Why don't I have any in Vidia shares? And I don't have
one in Video share. So it's not like I'm trying to pump up this stock whatsoever. I'm not a big stock market guy. And you know what, don't even take my advice in the stock market. Yes, I should have bought Apple. I should have bought Microsoft. I should have bought Video, I should have bought Yeah, I should have bought a lot of different companies way way back in the day. My goodness, three freaking trillion dollars.
If you still don't understand Nvidia, it's a company that makes servers that are well servers are made, but they're equipped with Nvidia chips because that lets them capitalize on the surging demand for these processors that power virtually every single AI application. Everything is AI AI. This Apple Justice. They have made a big announcement last week about AI artificial intelligence. They make a lot of these chips. I want to know, is there any other chips that are made
up there? And it's a smaller stock that I can buy. Here's one someone just emailed me, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Oh it's an index, the Philadelphia se Semiconductor Index. The index of semiconductors has went up thirty four percent. We need to look at these people again, not on financial expert. Do not take any five financial advice from me, because if so, I would have put all my money not in gold, which I should have done that at my advice of Kinney and matt Us. Going to enjoy put a I
probably put a spend up. Put all my money in dairy quyn'stock because going back, it's the greatest dessert in the world. All right, we're gonna take a break here. You know the phone number Michael Garfield does the name it is called the High Tech Texting Show. Wherever you are, I hope you have some AC running because it is nasty hot. It is officially officially summer. Right now. When we come back, I'm gonna tell you, uh ooh, how about this googlet? Who's got who's got some of these
security doorbell cameras. Google makes one. I actually have a Google Nest myself. They need your permission to do something. This is where big brother comes in. You need you need to help me de size. Is this something that you would give permission to on your video doorbell company? That right after
the break my tech Texan. That's how the social media channels work. H I G H T C H E x A N felled the whole thing out trademark, by the way, twenty two years ago, and I started this brand this crazy uh date fun actually uh, the brand and the content that
I produce, it has continued to change. Started out talking about computers and Wi Fi, and then obviously the revolution of digital TVs came in, and then the revolution of smartphones come in, and now it's pretty much any consumer advice you need, which is I just rated my top desserts and if you missed it, my top dessert the DQ Dairy Kreeen Blizzard. I need. I want one. It's good, but then I've got to get on the peloton out of the four straight hours at least for that thing. Seven one,
three, five, nine, five. Oh. If you want to say hi, if you're looking to decipher or decide between a vehicle. I I've already talked about evs. I've talked about the Ford Mustang dark Horse, the version that I'm test driving this week. A lot of ups. It's one or two little tweaks that I would have made for. Feel free to give me a call. Calum is on the other side. He will put you through to me. Somebody just emailed me this because I mentioned the US
Surgeon General in a story I did in the first hour. Vivek Murphy didn't even know that we still have a US Surgeon General because do people still smoke SIGs? Actually I think I do know one people who still smoked cigarettes. But is he or she's supposed to wear the Captain Crunch or the Captain Kangaroo out of it? Because this dude still wears it. He is, I guess like a general. I mean if I was nominated as the US Surgeon General. I mean I've got no background at all other than I look good
in a suit. But I mean, what I have to wear this thing with applets or something. I don't neither hear Another somebody said, hey, Michael, you talked about the surgeon general. Did you see what he said about putting warning Ladel's labels on social media due to what they can do to kids. I saw this, and let me take a minute talk about this, and this is another one of those parenting things. So Vivic Murphy,
the current US Surgeon General. He says, so full media should come with warning labels because social media is an important contributor to the teen mental health crisis. Okay, stop right there. There's one word that does not need to be in that statement of the sentence, the word teen, because I think social media is an important contributor to mental health crisis, and not just for teens. Last year, he issued an advisory making some similar arguments. He
said social media posed a profound risk to teen mental health. This guy's really apparently he's going after the teens. There was an op ed column, I think in the New York Times that he just recently wrote about this thing. It says there was a study showing higher social media use was associated with an increased risk of anxiety and depression. And there was a survey where almost half of teens reported social media makes them feel worse about their bodies. Again,
ease up on the team. Social media makes me feel worse about my body. Yes, I already have body dys morphia at number one. I only know that I don't need to see another dude who's relatively my age with a freaking six pack and looks like he's ready to model on the cover of GQ. Oh Man, Really, that has to be a photoshopped all right, I better go run another ten miles instead. Is surgeon in general says that warning labels alone would make social media safer. I mean, think about it.
People still smoke, and there's warning labels of cigarette packs, but it would help better inform everyone. Now, if this thing is gonna pass somewhere, he's gonna need support from Congress to make this happen. When cooperation in US politics, let me help you out, has not been common this decade. Now, there's been some recent bipartisan support that maybe kurtailed tech companies if you look what's going on with the whole TikTok saga. But yay or nay?
Does social media need warning labels? Where is that warning label going to be positioned? Is it going to be a sticker on your phone, on your laptop, on your desktop, on your tablet Every time you open up your Facebook or your or your Instagram app does a warning label pop up, kind of like the rating of a movie before you see it. I mean, we're gonna be so accustomated, like attuned to this thing. Who cares if there's a warning label? Okay, thank you for warning the government.
I'm just going to keep on doing what I'm doing. Well. It needs to be more than that. It needs to It needs to be companies. It needs to admit a parent. If a certain general is talking about teenagers, I assume it needs to start with the parents at home. A lot of parents really don't govern what their kids do or don't do on social media, and I think they need to. That's dad's opening up a can of worms. So do I? I thought that was so do again. I
wrote this up because a lester. They just emailed me this and we have now mentioned us Sergey gital Vivek Murphy twice in this show. There's a first you never know that was going to happen, never never know. I wanted to hit this one too. This was, Oh yeah, who's got a video doorbell? I have? I've casted a lot of video doorbells out over the time. Google Nest. That's the one I have, and there's there's a number of them out there, smaller companies. You don't need to pay
the whole you know, very very very expensive stuff. A lot of them. This is about face face ID technology. If somebody comes up to your doorbell, there are you know a lot of them have sensors that you can get a text that says someone is at your doorbell. I have one that says persons at your doorbell. Uh, there's a delivery at your doorbell because thee a package there too. Using AI, It's really nice. There's some
out there who use AI to recognize face. They will tell you who specifically is at your door if they've been there before, because they recognize it. Listen iPhone users, they've been creating face profiles for Apple for years and now biometric face scans. They can help us do it. Done of stuff. They can unlock your phone. You can look at your phone and you can unlock it with your face. I do that on my at home, on my desktop, I have a camera. Instead of putting a password on my
keyboard, I sit there, I look at my camera. Oh you're looking good today, Michael Ninichet. But yes, you're allowed inside here's the access it's on. But they're security companies like Google, Next and simply Safe. They're using face technology face scan technology that allows users to create a face contact list for friends and family using pictures that you already have. And then the data gets used in video doorbells and home cameras. Again, here's another camera
worms that's opening. Guess who's going to have that data? Google, Apple, Microsoft, you name it. The basics behind familiar face technology it's not that hard. It creates a library of recognized names and faces, and there's algorithms in the camera. It's going to do their best to analyze approaching faces and if they recognize anyone. Yeah, yes, these have warning labels.
I like no Google nests right now. They remind people to check their local privacy laws and get a permissions, get a person's permission first before they upload up. But there's no requirement to take that step. I have a seat in the face data. Very big questions. Two big questions arise. I think when it comes to face ID technology, can I be stolen? And
can law enforcement use it for tracking? Because there are security vulnerabilities and there's data breaches, and they're not going anywhere and that's why storing and encrypting face data on device is very important. And then there's also the facial recognition and law enforcement. It's kind of an unstable concoction, man, there's so many heated opinions on both sides. Federal agencies, local law enforcement. They both use face recognition. I mean, could comps demand your face library as a
way to track potential suspects or anyone else they wanted. Man, it's tough. Didn't have to worry about this growing up, did we? But there are laws that are catching up the face recognition. It's unpredictable. I don't know what to tell you now. The point of the story. Should you use she should not use rain video, doorbells, any of these things. I'm not saying do that whatever, because nowadays they're very simple to use, and I do think overall it does help. I have three flours in my
home. When I'm on the third floor and my doorbell rings, I could quickly turn on the camera and see who's there. So, the best of my knowledge, my Google Nest is not recording them. I think I've checked all the boxes. That's just it keeps everything local and nothing that but I can talk to it. If I'm not home and someone rings my doorbell, I can talk through the speaker. I can see who it is. Many
times you've seen the stories. Also, if someone tries to break into a home, maybe there's a wreck or a crash in the front of your street. Your ring doorbell was videotapeing this, Maybe camprove something. Overall, I don't know. I think it's a good way to deterk burglars. It's almost just as better to do for your home security. You can talk to you
on this. We have about fifteen more minutes still go ahead. But when you install things like this, make sure when you check the settings, do as much as you can if you want not to upload it, not to do any illegal data sharing whatsoever. And you need to check this thing on a regular basis. Matter of fact, if you've got nothing else to do on a hot summer day, why don't you log it into a lot of your apps, including your video doorbell app. Right now, Why we take
a break when we come back and check the security settings. That's what I do. Or remind you about some good stuff, all right? Final seven eight minutes coming up. Let's finish a strong one, right, here at the High Tech Texting Show. Michael Garfield is the day and you did it. Can you believe it? The final sigma? So this weekend's High Tech Texting Show, thank you so much for hanging in this. You know, listen, we're just a bunch of idiots over here. We're yapping for two
hours. But I'd like to think we give you some good information. So the fact that you've been hanging with us here for some of you for over twenty years. Man, there could be that's maybe over half your lives, not mine. So sadly we'd thank you. I think Eddie Martini, the market manager here iHeartRadio in Houston, thank you Eddie for actually not listening and remembering that I'm on the radio of keeping me on here. Brian and Brian
Erickson. He's our program director, Mark Sherman. I heard a love from Brian. Got some emails from Brian this week about that. Brian's Brian's very good. He has long been the program director here at our AM stations. That very when it comes to hurricane season, which by the way, we're into hurricane season. He keeps us all internally updated on a hurricane season. You know why because if we do here in the Houston Galliston area get hit
by hurricane season. He calls a lot of us AM radio host in so we can work twenty four to seven today. Thank you, Brian. We appreciate that. Oh, I'm serious. No, we have a June first hurricane season. We've got this internal email long thing about procedures of what happens. Obviously with our sister station KATRH seven forty, the go to news station
here in h Down, we going to full hurricane broadcasting mode. Updates in the water and what have you, and the power and electricity, and it's who's on call and my name is on that list, so like, don't go anywhere. I'm like, what, I'm supposed to stay here the I'm supposed to I'm not supposed to travel June first through what October first? What
is hurricane season? Come on, man, whatever I can do my show remotely, I could doc gonna give away the phone number because short on time, about six to seven more minutes of people are It's really nice hearing for people not only on social but also here on the email. Michael Garfield at iHeartMedia dot com that still works, which is goodness. Michael, I really didn't know. I knew you kind of reviewed cars. But it's great that
you follow the car. The automobile business, the industry is what companies out of going bankrupt. What's not Thanks for the information on Fisker, which is a company that actually just went bankrupt. Did you hear about one company is coming out with a new technology which probably is right up you're alley when it comes to road rage, There is a road or rage detector. I saw that in the news. Do you know anything about it? This is from h who. This is from Kevin. Kevin is in Pairland, Kevin,
I have heard about this thing. It was GM, it was General Motors not long ago. It was the last month in Mayorsmer. They filed a patent for a system that aims to counter road rage by taking control of your car. Not kidding. It's called the Vehicle Occupant Mental Well Being Countermeasure Deployment. Does that even stand what? It's the acronym of vomb vomit no, vomb No, it means not the Vehicle Occupant Mental well Being and Countermeasure deployment.
Hey, I'll tell you what that's a that's a great name. It totally describes what it is, but it's let me tell you what it is. It's a system that focuses. It's going to have a series of sensors and modules, which, oh, by the way, it's already on Pequals. The sensors and modules, modules that analyze and evaluate what's happening in your car that is equipped with the system when it comes out. Now, I
was going through some of the patent filings. Doesn't explicitly say the system is designed to counter road rage, but as I'm reading between the lines, there's some subtle hints in the patent that suggests that's the case, with saying that the system aims to prevent an undesirable situation behind the wheel when the system is in place. So I think it's gonna work like this. So if the system detects that the driver's mental well being is below a desired level, it
can deploy countermeasures. And this I read that, and this had me because I mean, there's a number of different cars right now that I test driving, and this may be on your car that it will give you a warning. Write it in the digital cluster, right, you know, if you look through your steering well that you need to take a coffee break and a little coffee cup comes up. Has any of you guys seen this as a
coffee comes up? Okay, you've been driving and you need to pull over and take a break, and then you click a button on your steering on it goes away. Has anybody actually pulled off to the side of the road and actually gone to get coffee when the coffee alert comes up? And number one, I don't drink coffee. I find offense to this. I mean, why can't coke spongor this like a can of coke zero pops up? Tell you what, man, I'd get thirsty. That's a Pavlovian response.
Man, they should just think about this anyway. That's that's my marketing form. But when it comes to this vehicle occupant mental well being and countermeasured deployment, they they could include the vehicle speed gives you an alert and suggest a break. Apparently the coffee thing comes up, but the system can also send notification to the driver's mobile device to encourage actions that improve their mental state. So I'm reading this and I'm thinking, wait a minute, aren't we hold
not to use our mobile devices when we're driving? Now I know now that you could bluetooth it and you keep the mobile device in your purse or the glove compartment or something. So it's gonna I'm driving and it's gonna notice me swerving. It's gonna send a text to my mobile device. Oh this is perfect. So now while I'm driving, I'm going to whip out my phone. Excuse me while I whip is out, and then I'm going to look at my text from GM saying hey, you need to put the phone down.
Not what is up with this? Now? The words road rage, we're not there. Gene did not use the word road rage. But if you're swerving, if you're a tailgating, if you're hussing up a storm, that's right the censors be. They can listen to us. The system may decide your mental state is the best for driving and implement numerous steps to correct the situation. I'm going to start with it alert. You could actually recommend
an exercise like taking a deep breath. Potentially there's a next level that recommends calling someone, obviously through your hands free system. What could be an advisor to calm you down, a talk you down? I mean, GM does have on star. Are they gonna start hiring psychiatrist. This is listen. Like with all Poltins, there's no guarantee that this idea is ever going to reach fruition. You can never reach production. But driver, I'll say this
in the whole show. Driver alerts and phone calls, they're doable without a doubt. The larger question is the fourth activation of drivers systems. It could be an issue. Bottom line, folks, as you're listening to me as we end the show, keep your cool out there. Otherwise your future vehicle could put you in a time out until you regain your senses, and you don't want that. Guess what I look at the time. Right now,
