Granger Taylor's 42-Month Journey (aka The Disappearance of Granger Taylor)

In 1980, 32-year-old Granger Taylor, who was said to be a mechanical genius, disappeared, never to be seen again. He left behind a note for his parents which said he was leaving on a "42-month interstellar voyage" aboard an alien ship. The night of his disappearance, a huge storm passed through Taylor's hometown. In 1986, the remnants of a truck, thought to be Taylor's, were found on a nearby mountain. Did Granger Taylor die in the storm that destroyed his truck? Or did aliens really pick him up that night and take him on a journey from which he has yet to return? Or was there another explanation?
