Episode description

Why do we need decentralised AI and how is it going to be built?

Welcome everyone, Kyrin here with Ep#1 of Mere Morpheus. As you might surmise this is the podcast where I talk about why I love regulation, centralised control, deceleration of technology, advertising and censorship. Ok not really, instead I'll be introducing this new podcast and relatively new project (Morpheus AI). To do this I'll go over the 5W's/1H of who, what, when, where, why and how. Splitting this into two, so I'll do it both on the podcast and on the Morpheus network itself.

This is a Value 4 Value show so please provide back any value you got with some time, talent or treasure!

Why do we need decentralized AI? And how is it going to be built? Welcome, everyone to the very first episode of the Mere Morpheus podcast, episode 1. I'm live here on the 27th of the 1st January 2025. And my name is Kyrin. As you might surmise, this is the podcast where I talk about my love of regulation, of centralized control, deceleration of technology, of advertising, and of censorship.

Okay. No. We're not gonna be doing that. We're gonna be doing the opposite of that in this podcast. So, what I will be doing today in this very first episode is introducing the Morpheus, projects. What is Morpheus? What is Morpheus AI? And I'm also going to be diving into this podcast itself. Who am I? Why am I doing this? What am I doing here? So to do this, in this little introduction period, I'll be talking about the 5 w's and one h, the who, what, what, my why, and how.

And, I'll be splitting this up both onto the actual project itself and then onto myself and on this podcast. So let's jump into the first one, the who. And as you'll see on your screen here, a little little darkroom with anonymous and a little handsome car and on the other side as well. So we definitely need to start with the Morpheus team. And by that I mean, there is no team.

Who

So Morpheus is an open source project. So the who of that is just, you know, random people all around the world joining in. It started off with, 3 anonymous contributors to a white paper, of Morpheus, Trinity, and Neo. This, of course, being a reference to the matrix. And they started off a white paper circulated that around. And it was essentially, you know, I'll be jumping into the what here, I guess a little bit too soon. So the who is

is an unknown series of, of of people who created it. And then more people of influential note jumped into it as typically happens with open source projects. There's no leader per se, but there are people who are leading. So, you know, take take that for what it is. Who in terms of myself, backstory of me. So my name is Karen, Karen Down. I live here in Brisbane, Australia. Jumping into the where too soon. Whoops.

And I am a podcaster, I guess. I've been doing this for 5 plus years with my co host, Juan, across the various mere mortals podcasts. And, you know, how many episodes?

Well, after all that time, we've we've gotta be like a1000 plus over all the various different things. I've got multiple different ones. So I go weekly live with a book reviews channel, weekly live with mere models conversations that I do with my friend, touching upon philosophy, self development, fitness, technology, those sorts of of topics. And I've got a couple little side ones as well, which I will be talking a little bit more about later. My,

you know, background is of engineering. I used to do mining engineering. Haven't done that for a long time. And, yeah, basically found my way into the cryptocurrency world, in particular Bitcoin in 2021, even though I bought it a little bit previously, and did all the wrong things held it on a centralized exchange for 3 plus years. Thankfully didn't get rubbed. But, yeah, I essentially care about human freedom. I care about all of the opposite things that I joked about in in introduction there.

I'll be talking a little bit more about some of the ethics, in the how section. But, yeah, I think what I who am I? Think of me as a bolder, less charismatic Andreas Antonopoulos is what I'm trying to trying to be, you know, that damn handsome bastard with his full head of hair. I bet. Yeah, that's that's how you know, I'm not an AI because I'll be saying ridiculous stuff like that.

I bet you in your 2025 bingo, you were not going to you're not going to hear about someone complaining or being jealous of Andreas Antonopoulos is hairline. But yeah, this is what I'll be doing, for this project and podcast.

What

So let's jump into the what section. So what is Morpheus? So it's an open source project to help the demand and compute side of decentralized eyes meet. So in my own head, I'm kind of thinking of this as a an app store somewhat for for agentic AI. So this is having your own personalized AI being able to to meet, to meet the, I guess what you would call it, demand of, let me let me backtrack on that. Decentralized AI is is what this is. And the Morpheus project is trying to help individual people

be able to get access to that. That's essentially what it is and not having to go through a closed source or a company or something like that where inevitably inevitably there's going to be a lot of problems arising from that. So a lot of this podcast will explore this from different angles. The what, what is Morpheus?

What is Morpheus, a network for powering smart agents, designed to incentive incentivize the first open source peer to peer network of personal general purpose AI, smart, a k a smart agents. And we'll be talking more about what is the more token as well because, I see Cole McCormick in the in the chat asking is current going full shit coins? I don't think so.

Much as bitcoin was a one of its kind, first, being able to access that anyone, you know, you get in at the the price that you want at you that you deserve, that you find it at. This is very much the same thing. There was no pre allocation, pre mine, pre anything. You can get in whenever you want and choose not to get in whenever you want. And I am actually not gonna be talking much about token and price on this this very, podcast because I find that,

the least interesting thing, about this whole thing. So do not expect any of that on here. I probably should have a section of of what not to expect on here. Maybe I'll do that right at the end.

Now what is the mere Morpheus? Well, mere Morpheus is part of the mere mortals podcast networks, hence the the name. I was thinking like, what's a good name for this? Could just type in Morpheus, but you you do that into people perhaps outside of the podcasting world might not know this, but the the name that you choose for something is an isn't important. You know, what Bitcoin did, for example, is a is not the best name for a podcast.

But, you know, because it was good, he he managed to to grow that into a very successful brand. The the thing with this was I'm kind of like, if I was optimizing for search results, I probably would have just typed in

more Morpheus decentralized AI podcast, something like that. But I don't want to. Me and Morpheus sounds cool. I like that better. So, this is not just myself. I do this with my co host, Juan. This project, this podcast is just of myself though, and this will be my my little one of my little side gigs. It's not just a YouTube channel, even though there is a YouTube channel.

I will be producing this audio going live on select podcasting apps that can do it at the same time as I am live here on YouTube. And I will be releasing this as an actual podcast, AKA and RSS feed as well. Long live RSS. So I'll be drawing some parallels from the podcasting world into these discussions as well of of what is Morpheus and what is this podcast. I've got a lot of ideas related to all of these things which kind of interconnect.

Let's jump into the when side of things. So the Morpheus

When

project, the white paper was, I don't know, circulated, I guess, on the second September 2023. So what is that? That's a year and a half ago, roughly. And the smart contract fair launch was in February of 2024, and that lasted for 3 months until May of 2024. And everything then went live and you could, you know, buy tokens and stuff. Once again, I'm more interested in the incentivizing nature of what what can actually come from this, not on the token itself.

So me personally, this project, podcast, I am to do this weekly weekly Mondays 11 AM Australian Eastern Standard Time. So, chuck it into your local AI to be able to find that what it is in your time. Don't expect any particular misses of this. Mondays are usually a pretty good day for me to to be rock solid here, and be able to produce.

Style and format of this will be very similar to a show that I did called value for value, where I usually do about individual seasons of 18 episodes length 16 or 18, something like that. It'll be very similar to that. And also time length as well. I expect these episodes to go from half an hour to 45 minutes in length, probably. So that is the when side of things, the where where in the world are we? Well, you know, Morpheus is meant to be for everyone in the world. So,

Where

AI opening access to a of of AI for everyone in the world. Proliferation of smartphones is a amazing thing. One thing that kind of shocked me whilst traveling in the first big travel I did in 2018, 2019 through Latin America

was that I was expecting, like, you know, people had told me, like, don't have your phone out. They're gonna steal it from you and your hand and things like this. Man, I saw girls walking around with phones sticking out of their boobs, out of the back cheek of the pocket of their butts. People were I mean, like, you know, I thought I would be the lost stupid gringo with my phone out. No, the the stupid gringo is the the locals of these places. So smartphones are everywhere.

And AI is going to be needed everywhere as well, because everyone needs to have access to what I think is a very important technology. Myself, I personally am in Brisbane. So if you see on your screen here, there's a little tiny red dot. That's a bit that's about roughly where I am in in Australia. But I will also be traveling to Europe in May slash August of this year. So hit me up if you wanna catch up or organize a meet up or something like that. That'd be cool.

Why

The why side of things. So I guess for for Morpheus, this came at a at a time, you know, why why did these people create a white paper, start talking about the need for a network to help decentralized compute and the demand supply and demand side of those things reach each other? This came so backing up chat gpt had its breakout moment at the start of 2023.

And almost immediately afterwards, you saw, especially in the US, but it's happening everywhere, Government's going like, oh, shit, this is a rather powerful technology. What if we could control this in some sort of manner? Shocking. Right? Shocking that a government would do that. So as behave as as expected, their behavior was to immediate impulse was how can we regulate this? How can we control this?

Hence why there was a need, a backlash as as there typically is with these coming and goings of of humanity. And there was a need to empower individuals to do what they do best. So, capital code compute community will get into all of these in future episodes and why they're the cornerstone of of what the Morpheus network is trying to empower and to incentivize the people. And also, why is decentralized AI needed? Why is decentralized

infrastructure needed? You know, the the d, the the big d word, it gets thrown onto a lot of things. And a lot of time, it's it's not necessary. I believe personally, this is one of those times where it very much is necessary. And boy, boy, are we gonna see some, ridiculous attempts at control in the coming years, but probably not in 2025. But I think beyond that, we it'll be interesting. Myself, well, what sparked this personally was was several several factors and why I

I felt the need to create this podcast. I've been simmering in my head for a little bit. As I mentioned, and, there's a episode on your screen here of 3:32, which was talking about drawing lines in the sand. And, you know, I care about humans and humanity. I have very strong ethics of nonviolence, non coercion, non lying, kind of cornerstones of of what I believe in and what I try to embody. And with a sprinkling of immense dislike of advertising and the advertising model.

332 of the mere models podcast will explain that in deeper if you were interested in doing that. And I'm gonna be keeping on sprinkling recommendations of of things because I've I've done so many podcasts that I don't need to repeat all of these. I can just tell you, this is what I believe in. If you wanna go check out more about, this is this is where and why. And so I'm convinced that AI is not just a linguistic trick

that we've managed to unlock with the large language models. I think the ability to communicate in a natural human form with these different, with with technology like this is going to unlock immense changes to the way we work, act, behave and think. And I don't want that ruined by reliance on a single network or a single source of failure, a single company, which is inevitably going to be censored, inevitably going to have

an advertising model thrown into it, influenced by that and available only to those in power or those becoming in power to tinker with. So I wanna contribute to the solution to what I think is a very big problem that is going to be arising in the immediate future. And this is the best way that I can think of doing it other than providing some capital. But, you know, I I tried learning Python once didn't work out well. I don't like don't like, coding,

compute side of things. I'm actually not that interested in the models themselves. So don't expect to hear in this podcast much about the actual open source infrastructure, the technology of how these things work. I'm very much of the sort the Internet works. That's great. This camera works. That's great. This phone works. That's great. I, I'm, I don't dig too deep into the actual technology because I don't have that much interest in it personally.

How

Let's jump on to the how. So the real philosophy of this all, I guess, is the how sort of things. And I think a lot of times this is this is where, the real rubber meets the road in terms of where I devote my time, my attention, my energy, and the funnily enough, you'd think like how philosophy that's that's like the least practical thing. How is kind of like the practical nature of this.

The one of the taglines of the the mere mortals, conversations, the the first podcast one, my myself one created was, you know, effective philosophy. It's it's philosophy that you can actually enact. And this is one of those times where it I I feel this is very much it is enactable. Everything that Morpheus stands for is pretty much everything is is what I stand for as well. I don't I don't see any big disagreements.

Maybe that'll arise in in my more investigations as I'm talking about these things. But the, you know, developing an open access for everyone, acknowledgment of individual capabilities of people, all of these are things that just tick boxes for me. The how how for myself, you know, I, my greatest intellectual work, if you want to call it that. And I don't think I've had very many novel or new ideas. And I still probably wouldn't say that.

The but in terms of the thing that I've linked and created, probably the best thing that I've done was the season 3 of the value for value show, which would I covered the basics of that on mere models, episode 394, if you want to go check that out.

And that was essentially tying together RSS, a BTC and V for V. So the RSS protocol, Bitcoin and then the value for value philosophy and the the commonalities between them, which was having things which are permissionless, self sovereign, decentralized and open to value transfer. I believe the Morpheus network can fits in with these exact same principles. And hence why, how the how sort of things is, I'm I'm gonna be talking about them and how how

why and how these things all matter. So that is the little bit of an introduction here to this very podcast, the mere Morpheus podcast. Couple of other things of the not to expect. I don't expect to do any interviews or anything like that on this show itself, perhaps for future seasons, I would maybe do interviews on the mere mortals podcast, the conversations, with with people of of note, those those leadings, people leading and or doing interesting things.

And I would maybe just cut out the AI sections that we focus on and and put a bend into this one in a slightly different format, something along those lines. But, yeah, expect more. Here's a couple of topics I've already got up, separating AI and crypto, the stupidest of crowds, why we will want personalized agents, for example, agents versus bots diving into the white paper code compute, community, all these sorts of things in capital.

I those are the type of episodes you can expect in the future from this.

Value 4 Value

To round this all off, I'm going to give you my call to action. And this is where I will introduce perhaps a new topic to you or something that you might not have heard of before, which is value for value. So there's a philosophy, related to content creation in particular, but you can extend this out into some some different areas as well. But essentially, I want this podcast available anytime, any place, anywhere for anyone,

with no barriers to entry. I will do my utmost to make this available in all of those places. You are not gonna hear any advertising on this, you're not gonna hear any sponsorships on this show. And I do that for the very, very strong reason.

Reason is that I do not want to feel forced to create this to talk about certain things, that I perhaps disagree with or have my opinion influenced other than the normal day to day interactions that you will encounter of where I spend my own time and things like this. So brilliant. Right? You get all of this value up front and that is how I'm gonna do this. What I am gonna ask though is that you provide some value in return.

Now this can take the form of many different ways. I'll be exploring more of this and telling you how you can go doing this via time, talent and treasure, such as sharing the show with someone who found it, giving me feedback, talent wise. You know, I just whipped together some basic graphic design templates of, of some music and some,

thumbnails and things like that. But if you're a graphic designer, obviously, and and you see some glaring errors, you can help out with that. And then finally, Treasure will be talking about, the monetary side of things of of how you can support by that mechanism. But, for today, I my little ask for you would be to just check out the value for value podcast that I've created. It's I've done 3 seasons of that.

The first introduction episode of each of those seasons will probably be be enough for you to get the overall gist, the general philosophy of why I do this. And season 3 in particular was the one where I've perhaps the most interesting to the crypto crowd or the technology crowd, if you will. So that that's going to be my little share for that. Obviously, subscribing to the channel of,

leaving any comments and things like this, suggestions of how to improve would be very much appreciated. But I'm gonna leave that here for this week, and I do hope you that you will join live 11 AM Australian Eastern Standard Time on a Monday in the future. So ciao for now. Kyron out.
