Episode description

China’s 12th five-year plan is an ambitious document that builds on decades of rapid economic development. It aims to transform the Chinese economy from one that is focused on exports and GDP growth, to a more sustainable model that addresses the pressing social and environmental issues facing China today.

In this podcast, Nick Leung, Managing Partner of McKinsey’s Greater China Practice, talks to Jonathan Woetzel and Guangyu Li about a recent study they’ve published that looks at the potential impact of the plan on over 30 industry sectors. Jonathan is a Director in McKinsey’s Shanghai office and is Co-Chair of the Urban China Initiative, a joint initiative of Columbia University, Tsinghua University, and McKinsey. Guangyu is a Partner in the Shanghai office and leads McKinsey’s Public Sector Practice in China.
