Mattsplaining - Gidget

Without Gidget, there is no Point Break and that's not a world I want to live in. Matt Storrs knows a considerable amount about the history of gidgets (the 1950s "Gadgets for Girls!"). Jennifer Glick (@glickjen) broadens Matt's understanding by detailing the history of the book and movie character. Was Gidget the first female James Bond? Kind of, yes. There's a direct line from Gidget to the surf culture we so cherish today. Frederick Kohner created the character (based on his teenaged daughter, Kathy). She has been played by Sandra Dee, Deborah Walley, Cindy Carol, Sally Field, Karen Valentine, Monie Ellis, Caryn Richman, and Sabrina Kramnich and is due for a comeback.
