This week in Massastima Construction Land and first up for the year to my hometown of Melbourne , australia and TFE Hotels is celebrating a milestone in its journey to net zero emissions by 2050 , with the Quincy Melbourne becoming the first hotel in Australia , victoria , to achieve Neighbours Climate Active , carbon Neutral Building Certification .
Through the certification , the Quincy will offset 1,671 tonnes of carbon per annum , which is equivalent to 167 average Australian households . The TFE Hotel was invested in developing the footprint of management systems and a broad endorsed sustainability strategy , setting climate targets , establishing their in-house greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and reporting the uh .
A notable approach to this is that it used mass timber as a function of replacing much of the what would be wet , poor concrete with cross-laminated timber .
If you want to read some more about this , you can head to our LinkedIn feed , and there's a great report from the Daily Reporter which is about the rise of mass timber buildings , coming with added benefits , and it features the Ohio State University and the material used for low to mid-rise buildings and comparing it to more traditional materials .
The article goes on to talk about not only the forest management , which is very important and that's obviously where it all starts through to economics , all the way through to commercial related elements of the wider ecosystem around construction .
So if you want a great little article that overviews how mass timber and forestry work together , you can head to our LinkedIn feed or thedailyreportercom . And last week , we bought you some in-progress construction shots of the Grand Ring for the Osaka 2025 Expo , which is a two kilometer , 700 meter radius building built out of glue laminated timber .
Well , now there are some eye-watering and very beautiful pictures of the Grand Ring in nighttime photography illuminating the structure , and it really does look like a golden ring sitting in the urban landscape . So if you want to go and have a look at some impressive nighttime photos of the Japanese Golden Grand Ring , please do head to our LinkedIn feed .
