"Once, I Built a Railroad" (46)
Episode description
As we land the show back to the City of Angels, Ryan discusses with Sebastian about three movies released over the past decade that effectively display the underbellies of Los Angeles' law enforcement (2012's "End of Watch"), local media (2014's "Nightcrawler") and art community (2019's "Velvet Buzzsaw"), all of which star native Angeleno Jake Gyllenhaal. While playing three radically different characters, Gyllenhaal's performances reflect their own sides of the city which anyone from SoCal can probably find as familiar in such a widespread metropolis. The city itself provides its own character, portraying a backdrop that traps, seduces and even destroys those defying its allure.
There were some audio problems on Ryan's end (that's what happens when several people are hoarding the WiFi), but we hope our message regarding these three films made it through. Check them all out.
