Welcome to the Mom in a Mission podcast , your go-to resource for living a more purposeful and fulfilling life . So grab your Tazza cafe y vamos a platicar . All right , so let me share something from my own life . Most of you probably don't know , but some of you probably do . I am a twin and at seven months I decided it was time to be born .
Not my sister , me , my poor parents . They didn't even know they were having twins .
My sister came first , but for some reason many people assumed I was the oldest and over time it felt like she was overlooked , especially when , after kindergarten , I was promoted and she was held back and for years she struggled with the belief that she wasn't smart , when in reality she was dyslexic and just needed the right tools to learn differently .
So back in the 80s , late 70s , early 80s I know I'm aging myself right now right , people didn't know about dyslexia . They even put her in back then they used to call it special ed , special education classes , because they felt like she was slow , and that couldn't be further from the truth .
The reality was is that she was dyslexic and but , like I said , nobody knew anything about that . So of course she learned differently . Yet they didn't know how to teach her and she still managed to graduate high school . But it wasn't until years later that , once dyslexia was spoken about and was introduced , is when she realized that .
And not to mention , even my youngest sister was also diagnosed with dyslexia , and but by that time they already kind of like figured it out and so she was able to get the help that she needed . But let me be real with you , I felt overlooked too .
There were times I put in work and someone else got the recognition , and let me tell you that happened a lot and I was not happy about it . The times when opportunities came quickly for others while I was still waiting , because of the work that I did . They would get promotions , they would get recognition , they would get awards , they would get all this .
And yet here I was , who did all the work and didn't get anything . And there were definitely moments when God called me into roles where I felt completely unqualified , almost like he was making a mistake and we both know that God doesn't help make mistakes , right . But in my mind I felt like this has to be a mistake .
But the truth is that was my own insecurity speaking so , just like when Jacob blessed his grandson . So we're going to talk a little bit about the Bible . Right , we're going to introduce some things , because what we read in the Bible is so relatable to our lives . So , for instance , jacob blessed his grandson , ephraim and Manasseh , in Genesis 48 .
He crossed his hands and gave the greater blessing to the younger son instead of the older . That wasn't the way things were supposed to go , but God had a different plan , and maybe you felt like Manasseh passed over , overlooked or waiting for a blessing that seems like it went to someone else .
But , amiga , trust me , god's plans don't follow human expectations and sometimes we forget that . Sometimes we want to put God in a little tiny box , as if he was something small , when in reality he's something so much bigger than us . So let me ask you a couple of questions . Have you ever felt like you were overlooked ?
How did it make you feel and what did you believe about yourself in those moments ? See , sometimes we think blessings have to come in a certain order , but God often works differently . So , in other words , you know we've grown up thinking , okay , we , you know , we have to go to school .
From going to school , you know we either have to go to college or learn a trade or start getting a job , and then you know where to find someone , get married , have children . You know , like all of these things , right , they're supposed to be , it's supposed to be that way . But think about Moses . He was not the obvious choice to lead the Israelites .
He was very insecure because he had a speech impediment . I think it's described as him being . He had stuttered , he stuttered and he was living in exile .
Because , remember , when he , in going out into the field , moses , who was raised by Pharaoh , ended up killing one of the Egyptians because he was mistreating the slaves One of the Egyptians because he was mistreating the slaves . But God chose him anyway .
And maybe you feel like you're waiting for something that hasn't come yet , watching others step into their season while you're still in the background . But trust this God sees you , his timing is perfect and he hasn't forgotten about you .
And sometimes I have to remind myself of that too , because there are times when I feel like you know that things are happening for others , and that's why we need to be very , very careful when it comes to social media , because sometimes we'll see things on social media and think , wow , look at that person .
Because sometimes we'll see things on social media and think , wow , look at that person , you know they did this , they did that and and look how God's just blessing them . And here I am living my life , right , whatever , and I feel like you know Nothing's happening . But it's like I said , his timing is perfect and he hasn't forgotten about you .
And I personally can attest to that myself because , as I've spoken in prior episodes , I just thought my life was going to go to crap and it looked like it was , but yet God used all of those opportunities for this moment , for what I'm living today .
Right now , I get to go to other states , I get to mentor children , I get to be on this podcast , I have my business . I mean , I've had so many opportunities that have started coming my way and , like I said before , if you would have told me this 20 years ago , I would have laughed .
I'd be like , yeah , okay , whatever , that's never going to happen for me , but it did and it continues to build from that . So , whenever you feel overlooked , write down every time God has come through for you in the past .
It's easy to focus on what has happened or , I'm sorry , it's easy to focus on what hasn't happened yet , but remembering his faithfulness shifts our perspective . So here's another question for you what's something you've been waiting on and how can you shift your focus to trust God's timing ? When God calls , we often feel unqualified . Do you ever feel like that ?
Ever felt like God was asking me to do something and your first thought was babe , no way , I'm not good enough for that . Well , that was Moses's exact response when God called him to lead . In Exodus 3 through 4 , moses gave God every excuse in the book who am I ? What if they don't believe me ?
I'm not a good speaker , but God wasn't looking at his flaws , he was looking at his own power , working through him . I can relate to that . It's just like I mentioned before . God provided me opportunities .
As a matter of fact , there were so many opportunities at jobs that I would get offered manager positions and I would be like , no , that's not for me , because who am I ? They're not going to listen to me , they're not going to pay attention to me .
I don't even know if I want to fool with any of that stuff , because , just like Moses , god has also called me to lead , but I've always backed away from it because of , like I mentioned before , my own insecurity .
We all have that moment right , we all have those moments where we're just , we feel like like if you're wanting to find another job and you see this position and you know you can do the work .
But the thing about it is is , I think what frightens us the most is the titles or the type of position that it is Because I have felt that whenever I was at my jobs and I was doing the work , I was doing it not realizing that I was already the work I was doing it , not realizing that I was already leading people .
Like , I've been in roles where I had to help lead the people . But it was different when I didn't have that title or that I was asked to be in that position . It just came naturally for me . And so for a lot of us , things come naturally to us .
But the minute that someone puts a title to it and makes it your responsibility , it's almost like I don't want that responsibility . I don't want to do it . I'll do it as long as I don't have that directive to lead , that directive to lead . I'll lead all day long if I feel like I'm doing it on my own terms .
But see , sometimes God calls you to do it anyway . So the next time you doubt yourself , remember that God doesn't call the qualified , he qualifies the called . Let me say that again God doesn't call the qualified , he qualifies the called . No-transcript . Sometimes life feels like we're in a wilderness dry , exhausting and uncertain .
The Israelites went through that too . They complained , worried and doubted , but God provided for them every step of the way . He gave them manna when they were hungry and water when they were thirsty . He didn't abandon them and he's not going to abandon you either , just like he didn't abandon me .
In those moments where I felt things were just too much , he did not leave me , although I felt many times that he had , because I feel like sometimes I couldn't hear his voice or I couldn't feel him near , but it's when he was .
Where I felt like I was further away from God is when God was doing all the work and I had to wait and wait , because the person who's talking to you now was not the person that you would have met 20 years ago . In that moment I felt like nothing was going to happen for me .
But 20 years later , here I am and I can see God's hand in every aspect of my life . God's hand in every aspect of my life . So if you're in a season of waiting , ask yourself what is God teaching me here ? What provisions has he already given me that I might be overlooking ? Because I will tell you this what God was teaching me was patience .
God was teaching me strength . God was teaching me that I needed to seek him more . God was teaching me that I did not have to do everything on my own . There were so many lessons that I learned throughout the last 20 years and I'm still learning , because we don't ever stop learning . So how is God showing up for you right now , even if it's in small ways ?
How is he showing up ? Like Moses , you know , he was trying to handle everything by himself until his father-in-law , jethro , stepped in with some wise advice . You can't do this alone . How many times have we heard that ? I just said that earlier . Right , like I can't do this alone .
And it's true , because we wear ourselves out trying to manage everything on our own , that we go crazy . But God places people in our lives to help us , and that's one of the things that we need to realize , amiga , is that we can't do everything alone .
We need help , we need to be able to delegate things , but sometimes I think we're so hardheaded that we forget that we are human , especially as moms and not just moms , but women in general , but a lot of times moms too because we just pile on and pile on and pile on and pile on and we don't know when to say enough , I can't do this , I'm tired , I'm
exhausted . We feel like we have to continue to keep going . I mean , guys , if we can't , if not , you're going to wear yourself out , you're going to be stressed , you're going to become depressed , you're going to be bitter , you're going to be resentful , all of the things .
So God places people in our lives to help us , and if we feel like he hasn't , then we need to pray . Lord , please , I can't do this alone . I need your help . I need you to place the right people in my life so that I can carry out this mission . It's just like me with this business .
I feel like I've gone as far as I could within my own strand , within my own intelligence , within everything you know . I keep learning , but I know that I'm coming to a point where I need the experts to help me further along this business , because I don't know everything and I can't do everything , and I'm constantly asking God .
Please , lord , place the right people in my life so that I can carry out the mission , the purpose you have for my life . Help me carry it , because this business is not mine , it's yours . Mommy on a Mission is your business . This is a business street .
Yes , it's a business that generates money , but it's also a ministry , because I'm here to help , minister to women , to let them know that , whatever it is that they are seeking to do , they can't accomplish it , but we have to put God first . And so , amiga , again , you don't have to carry it all .
Maybe you're holding on to responsibilities that are draining you because you feel like you should be able to handle it , but remember , even Moses needed help . So ask for help when you need it , whether it's from a friend , a mentor or community . Lean into the support God has given you . Where in your life do you need to delegate or ask for help ?
So I mean , I know that we've covered a lot today , but I hope you're leaving with some encouragement to trust God , even when you feel overlooked , unqualified or stuck in a weighty season . And , just like Ephraim , just like Moses , just like the Israelites in the wilderness , god is writing a story in your life and he has not forgotten you .
So let's pray , father God , I just want to thank you , lord Jesus Christ , for the lessons that you continuously teach us , father God , father God , I am so grateful and thankful , father God , that you think highly enough of us , father God , to ask us to carry out certain responsibilities , father God .
Responsibilities , father God , that you are asking us to do things that are uncomfortable , because it's like they say put yourself in uncomfortable situations until you become comfortable with it . Because it's through those uncomfortable moments , father God , is how we continue to learn and grow .
It brings out things in us , father God , that start to develop that we don't even know and we don't even understand . But , god , we know that you make no mistakes and it's just like it says you don't call the qualified , you qualify the called . Father God , I'm speaking that you pour an anointing on the amiga that's listening to this episode today .
I pray that , whatever it is that they are being asked to carry out , father God , to do it , even if it's in fear , to just trust in you , father God , to do it , not to allow for her insecurity , father God , for her fear to stop her , father God , insecurity , father God , for her fear to stop her .
Father God , place the right people in her lives , father God , that are going to help her carry out the plan that you have for her life , because we know that whatever we do , father God , it's for you .
May your will be done , father God , we thank you , lord Jesus Christ , because we know , father , that you are mightier than us and that your ways are far more higher than our ways and you see far more than what we can see .
Father God , we thank you , lord Jesus Christ , for what you are doing today , tomorrow and the next day , and it's in Jesus name that we pray Amen .
