William Boyle

We're back! After a too long (but much needed) hiatus, Magnolia Radio is back with a new episode featuring a talk I had last year with my good friend and author William Boyle. Bill (as we call him) is a writer from Brooklyn, New York. He’s the author of the novels Gravesend, The Lonely Witness, A Friend Is a Gift You Give Yourself, City of Margins, and Shoot the Moonlight Out, all available from Pegasus Crime. He lives in Oxford, Mississippi. We talk writing, music, the 90's and early 00's music...

Cody Rogers

I first met Cody Rogers (and his brother Jake) through their band Holy Ghost Electric Show . They opened for Water Liars (and me solo) a few times in Oxford, always leaving me with a glimmer of hope for the next generation of Mississippians making independent music. But more importantly, they are some of the nicest and most earnest folks involved in the music scene here. Buy Cody’s records here: https://codyrogers.bandcamp.com/ Tracklist: I Feel A Darkness from My Heart Is The Most Lonesome Rode...

Tyler Keith

Tyler took writing classes at the University of Mississippi under the infamous Barry Hannah and has written a stage play titled "The Outlaw Biker" as well as a new novel that’s set to come out on November 11, 2022 titled "The Mark of Cain". We talk about his experiences growing up in Florida, moving to Mississippi, studying under Hannah, and how he got started playing music. We also talk a good deal about his book and his songs and I play a lot of music along the way. Strap in because Tyler’s ol...

I first met him at a show in Memphis, TN, and we quickly struck up a friendship that has lasted through everything that's happened since. In this episode we talk about how we met, share some touring and recording stories, as well as some news and music from a new project that we're working on. Hope ya'll enjoy it as much as I did. Matt Robinson (Change Tupelo)

You may have heard of Tupelo, a pretty famous guy named Elvis Presley was born there. Luckily for me, he happened to be in Oxford a couple weeks ago for business and Matt was kind enough to take the time to drop by the studio for a quick chat. Then we ran into each other again by accident the next day in the Memphis airport. We talk about how we were first introduced to skateboarding and punk music in Mississippi, about what it takes to grow and maintain a community of likeminded individuals, Pi...

INTRODUCTION

I recorded this first episode out on the deck of my loft studio, so there are some really nice ambient neighborhood sounds happening. I also played some piano and mixed it in underneath everything, as well as a special live clip of a song by Damien Jurado from his recent performance here at Proud Larry’s in Oxford, MS. My hope is that a more consistent form will appear over time, and I expect it will get better as we go. But I think this is a good representation of what to expect from this space...
