Stories of haunted houses regularly graced the pages of Victorian newspapers. The paranormal phenomena was investigated and given more of a critical eye than you may expect but why did ghost stories suddenly become all the rage, with thousands of copies of books selling at the time about the spooky tales.
The history is stranger than you think and it may have well been to do with the industrial revolution.
