Release the Lord and Miller solo movie, you cowards. Yeah if if you listeners at home, don't recall Goo and I talk about this every so often. The original directors for the Hans Solo solo movie Solo that came out what twenty seventeen, I think I believe either twenty seventeen or twenty eighteen, don't quote me. It ended up being pretty okay. It was fine. I
don't mind that movie. Yeah, yeah, very safe. But the original directors for that movie were Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who have done nothing but greatness for the last six, seven, eight, nine, ten years, going all the way back to the Lego movie, and seem like the perfect writers and directors for a movie for Hans Solo and Buddy movie Yep, yep. And what happened is they had creative disagreements with the heads of Star Wars, I e. Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, and so they got
fired. I think that it was a I think they parted ways mutually. They were more than halfway through production, yep. And then they brought in Ron Howard to salvage or reshoot everything, and again it was fine. But I think now Every day that we get away from that movie, one more day removed, is the more regret and the more desire we have to see a Lord and Miller on solo movie one. Yeah, just three King of Queen and Meryl Street Entertainment, and I'm Mac and we are the Mac and
Good Program. We bring you universal friendship, multiversal multiversal friendship, that's for sure. Yeah, a little bit of multiversal love today too. I don't I don't know if I'm ready for that. Oh no, not gonna cross your streams there. Yep. Today, Goo, we are discussing Spider Man Across the Spider Verse. This is the sequel to two thousand and eighteens Spider Man Into the Spider Verse. That's right. It's been five long years, four and a half long years since we saw the first movie. This was
set to come out in December of last year. It got bumped six months. A very long awaited sequel. Go. This is a rated PG animated action adventure, comedy, family side, fantasy, and sci fi. It fulfills all of those things too, as far as you can go. Pretty much. Run time of one hundred and forty minutes. I think that's about twenty five minutes longer than the first one, and it doesn't it doesn't feel long. So you're not at all bored at any point during this movie.
But towards the end, you know, it's sort of towards the end, you feel like there's a lot to happen. You're like, I don't really know what's going to happen here, And so we get a sequel. We get a sequel to the sequel, a three quel. But this movie. Goo, what a lot of people said about the first one, I think this movie greater than Yes, I would say that going into the first one, I feel like the first one surprised a ton of people, and you
know, just exceeded expectations. This one, you are going into it with high expectations and they exceed those expectations. Yeah. And I think the first one is such a unique move that we had never seen anything like that before,
so it gets a lot of credit for that. Again, I personally given a lot of credit for like roping me into an animated movie with different animation styles I had never really seen before that most people had never really seen before, And this movie does that, and then some they introduce even new animation styles, which is amazing goo on Rotten Tomatoes currently ninety four percent from
the critics through sixty six reviews. The first one got ninety seven, so it seems like this is going to fall short of the critical reviews, which is very surprising. Not that surprising to me. The first one was easier to consume, a little bit uh tidier of a story. This one is a bit longer, and maybe if you're saying, is this a kids movie, it definitely does lend itself to being four a little bit older kids, but also over two hours on a movie you are playing with fire there,
Yeah, two hours, twenty minutes. On Metacritic, it has an eighty seven after fifty reviews. The first one also got an eighty eighty seven, so they're saying on par roughly. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes for the first one was nine. This one is going to be higher than that. This might be well, I don't count audience score anymore because everyone has just lost their minds fair enough, but I feel like the audience is absolutely gonna
like this. Oh but also hear me out, I don't care about the critics one anymore either, I don't. I don't care about Rotten Tomatoes. And I forget who said this, but what you want to do when you're looking for film reviews movie reviews, don't look at the aggregate of Rotten Tomatoes. Know who you like as a movie reviewer, as a critic, and just listen to that one person, listen to a handful of people. Don't be a slave to the tomatoes. Yeah, I mean, in general,
I think we can all agree to that. I just think Rotten Tomatoes as much Mack says that, and he's just eating a tomato right now. If you're listening to the audio, Mac is just gnawbing on tomatoes right now. In general, it's a it's a decent little look into how people are viewing. No, it's not the Yeah, I actually think it is. The one that's Metacritic is where it's at now, baby, I mean Metacritics is better. I think the one I would say to never use a cinema score.
Everything's inn A, everything's an A, and then even the bad ones are still like CS, So never use cinema score. I still think rot Actually I am dB is worse too. Rotten Tomatoes is still pretty good. If I could vote one thing off the show, besides you, it'd be rotten tomato score. Nah. I like Roddy well, then I guess you're here. The idea of Roddy Ts is just always going to be good. People just don't understand Roddy t. No, we understand rowdy, people don't.
The people don't. Ninety four percent of the critics said they liked it. That's what ninety four means. People people goose. Speaking of this movie in our open here, this movie's written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callahan. And it is interesting the note here the first movie Christopher Miller does not have a writing credit on, and I don't know why that is. I don't think we ever really talked about that initially, So that's
interesting. If you don't know Lord and Miller, which you should by now. They did Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the first and second one. They did both lego movies. Of course, they did into the Spider Verse. They also directed twenty one and twenty two Jump Street, which are
two of the best comedies of last fifteen years. And other than the sequel to this movie, beyond the Spider Verse, the only thing upcoming for the two that you would know of is Christopher Miller has written the upcoming Robot Chicken movie. So that's that's pretty interesting. Are they working on Cloudy with a Chance of Three Balls? Oh, that's a nice title. You should pitch that, just pitched the title of Like, I know you guys haven't written
anything for this movie, but you might have to. Now. They do have three projects on IMDb that I've never heard of, so I didn't bother giving them to you. Dude, Dave Callahan, We've talked about it a couple of times. What an interesting career this man has had. He is the writer from Doom, the Rock movie, The Expendables, Godzilla from twenty fourteen, zombieland Double Tap, Wonder Woman eighty four, the More Kombat movie that was two years ago, and shan Chi Shang Chi, and then of
course now this movie. Was not a writer on the first movie either. I don't know why they brought him, brought him in just action pieces. I don't I don't know. I'll tell you what. It doesn't matter because the end result was great. Yeah, yeah, good, points good. This is directed by and this trio here is also directing the next movie Beyond the Spider Verse. Joaquim Do Santos. Prior to this, all he has done is TV stuff, but that does include Avatar, The Last Ambender,
The Legend of Cora, and a bunch of DC animated cousin. Yes, he was also the executive producer on Cora and also that rebooted Vultron show Vultron Legendary Defender Kemp Powers. Goo was a co director on Soul from twenty twenty, which I liked a decent amount but was not really you know, I'll probably never watch it again. He also wrote that movie and wrote One Night
in Miami and then Justin K. Thompson Gou. This is his first ever directing credit, and all he had really done previously was a production designing role or a part of the animation department. So it looks like he's one of the guys they're trying to work into as one of the next animated directors. Goo synopsis of this movie. It's a long one and I don't know if
it's a good one. Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar winning Spider Verse Saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn's full time friendly neighborhood Spider Man across the multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacey and a new team of Spider People to face off of the villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered. I guess not great. It suffices. It's it's mouthie,
it's wordy. This movie stars Shamik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailey Steinfeld is Gwen Stacy, Oscar Isaac is Miguel O'Hara, Jake Johnson is Peter B. Parker is Sa Ray as Jessica, Drew Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis. That's Myles's father, Luna Lauren Valz as Real Morales. That's Miles's mother. Jason Schwarzman as the Spot. And then we also have lesser characters here. Daniel Kalua as Hobie Brown. He's Spiderpunk. Andy Sandberg is Ben Riley,
the Scarlet Spider. Karen Sony as Spider Man India. You would know him from the taxi driver from Deadpool, of course. Amandlus Stenberg is Margot Kess. She's like the virtual Spider Bike girl. There we see in the Miguel O'Hara's planet Georma Taccone Goo as the tal An Adrian too Italian Vulture. I feel seen such that was so good. I love that part so much. And then Shay Wigham as George Stacy, Gwen's father, so great job
by the voicecast. They brought these characters to life, especially with the help of just the amazing animation. The animation in this movie is just gonna blow you away. And it's true about the first one, but this movie, I feel like it's more emotional, So it rings true more about this one that the animation and the animation styles reflect the on screen emotions so well on this and that's especially true in Gwen Stacy's world, where Gwen Stacy's world almost
looks like a watercolor painting at times. It's just it's truly, it's truly amazing some of the animation. And let me also ask you this question here, Matt, because I know that you're not as big of a fan of animation of cartoons. Did you find yourself getting lost and feeling like you weren't even watching an animated movie, like you were actually watching a live action movie.
Yeah. I think the best animated movies take you out of the animation and make you feel like you're watching real human being characters, and I thought this did a great job at that. And that's the reason why I don't traditionally love animated movies is because I lack the empathy and emotion I'm supposed to have for the characters because they're not real. And this one I felt it.
I felt the emotions. I had empathy for these characters. And that's that's a massive achievement for me, because for me, the first one, I didn't necessarily feel that as good as the first one is. It's not quite as emotional. It's a little more um, it's more PG than this. I think the first one reminds you that you're watching a cartoon. Often like they get into some slapsticky stuff that you would really only see in a cartoon, and this one might have done that like once or twice, but
it didn't do it as many times. This one is more of a film goods as opposed to a movie. As would say, but dude, this movie it's not only epic as we expected it to be more epic than the first one, but it's emotionable. It's emotional and relatable. Emotionable would have sufficed you just jam them together again. I have a hard time finding those two things true about any animated movie, So credit to this movie. And it does feel more serious and more consequential than the first movie. And that's
in large part because we're already invested in Miles. We don't need to get invested from him from the jump because we already are. And now we also are as equally invested in Gwen. And it's a good it's a one A, one B situation here, it's not a Batman in a Robin situation. And also you just mentioned this, and this is one of the reasons why I think this movie, Let's get it out of the way, is better than the first movie. And here we go. They're on the table right
now. The best Spider Man movie that we have gotten so far is because we are not dealing with any of the backstory. We do get some for Gwen, but we just jump right into it from the get go, and it is from start to find. You know, there are different points of the movie where you might have more action here or more heartfelt story here, but just full two hours and twenty minutes is all great. Yeah, And I think you know, if we are comparing the first two, which is
going to be a natural conversation after this movie. The first one was, like I said, maybe a little more PG. Obviously, it was incredibly innovative and fun, but the comedy was probably also a little too reliant on Peter b. The comedy's more spread out in this one and throughout the film, not just in one moment, and of course, because they have to intro everything and that first movie, it's a little slower going at first, and for me it was a little jarring seeing some of the new animation.
But again I gotta give credit to it for roping me in for that. But this movie go across the Spider verse. I feel like it's funnier than the first one. More laugh out loud jokes and to your point, a little less hokey, more actual jokes in the dialogue instead of family guy style going out of your way to make a joke. Are you ready to get into the octa gone? Let's all right, Mac fun factor? How fun was this movie? And like I just said, I think the entire runtime,
you're getting different kinds of fun. Where like you might get more dialogue driven fun, some more funny jokes at the beginning or leading into the third act and then you just have this great chase scene or this great action scene, and it hits on everything in this movie. Yeah, I agree, from start to finish, this movie is a blast from all sorts of characters in all sorts of moments. The first one did give us Peter B. Parker, who plays a more subdued role in this. You also got Spider
Pig and Spider Man Noir. But I feel like in the first one the humor was reliant on those three characters, mostly Peter B. This one just feels more balanced and more fun through it. It's more situational in this movie too, Yes, for sure, for sure, satis factor and I feel like, you know, and we always talk about Empire, and you know, Part two's leading into part threes of like this did a great job of ending the first part of a two part movie. Yeah, naturally, because
this is the middle part of a three part story of trilogy. There's some blue balls here in the conclusion, but I was certainly satisfied with how balls to the walls This was the whole time, So a lot of balls here going around barometer. Was there any tick of boar and so not for me?
I'm gonna speak for maybe a commoner out there that I could see someone getting bored with the mumbo jumbowie aspects of the multiverse and the different you know, cannon events of Spider Man lives and all the different type of multiverse things, because I think people have multiverse fatigue. But I think this movie does
it so well that I didn't have any bore with it. Yeah. We talked about this when we were leaving the theater, about the superhero fatigue and multiverse fatigue, and I think what we sort of agreed upon here is that people are just lazy. The fatigue they have is not wanting to remember everything from a million different places, which I get to a certain extent, but at the same time, like you'll watch eight hundred hours of Laura in order
or remember something from six hundred episodes ago. So I don't really buy all those all those nubs opinions on that. To me, I love if it's done well, you can't do anything better. Well, that's the whole thing is. I think the fatigue comes when you know, say, a hero or a story isn't done well and there isn't enough care taken in the writing or how the characters portrayed, or you know, enough good stuff in the story, and that's the reason why some of those lesser movies aren't remembered.
But when someone does a great job, say Guardians three or this movie, there's no fatigue here. Well, I think that's two different things. Though. I think if a movie is just not good, not great, then I'm aware of that. But people blame superhero fatigue on that. Yes, I think, yeah, they're blaming the fatigue on something that's not fatigue at all. It's just missus. There's just bad. Yeah, those are middling movies, yes, correct agree? All right, Mac Aquator is it better
than an Aquaman? It is clearly clearly above it. Halloween is it's gonna wane over time for you? And I guess there's nowhere to go but down. Uh yeah, I don't know. I don't know, it'll be it'll be. I actually want to rewatch this already because I wasn't looking for Easter eggs first time through, so I want to do a rewatch just for that only. But nothing yet, no weaning yet. Pants Tent City, Excite,
bike Mania, what got you going? And there were a cup of two tree, great action great chase scenes that we really haven't seen anything like in a movie theater, you know, really having to do with the animation, and also just what they can do with Spider Man in an animated world that just jump off the screen to you. We were anticipating a couple of great surprises in this Cup of Two Tree, and besides those the ones we anticipated, we got a couple of great surprises and that was real great pants
tent moments. Also, like you said, awesome action. And there was a joke in here that made both of us laugh for two minutes each that really wasn't even like the greatest joke, No one laugh besides us, right, so perfectly timed and perfectly done. You and I giggled for two minutes
straight. I also love the fact that, once again, even though it is an animated movie and I respect animated movies, you don't you you felt something with Miles and Gwenn, with Miles and Gwen and Miles and his parents and let it end her dad, Yeah, you felt all of it, agreed, Max. Credit Union. I'm giving it to Lord and Miller and the animators. Yeah, I'll give it to everyone for everything all at once. It's everyone deserves everything. For this movie. They nailed the animation.
The soundtrack was great, the voice acting was great, the joke to was great. Everything in this movie is great. Hot dog Man, Hot dog Man, Hot Dog Can For those of you tardy to the Mac and Goop party, we rate everything on a forty hot dog rating system. Mac, I shall let you go first. Oh wow, Oh you're receiving in the second half there, okay goo. This movie is the story about the anomalies and how they stand out, how they need to be contained, how Miles
is sort of attached to all of these happenings. So it makes for a great metaphor for those people or those kids who are considered different. You know, Miles is considered different, but he embraces who he is, turning his perceived weakness into an actual strength, a realized strength. And I think that's
amazing storytelling and meaningful to a lot of people. Miles, this freestyling teenage artist who acts on impulse, versus the older macguel and his regimented team of spidies who are mostly devoid of emotion and are also walking that thin line between good and bad. It's just a great premise. All these guys still ultimately having one enemy in common makes it an awesome three sided story. Then you sprinkling Gwen and how her story compliments both sides of that spidy aisle, and
it's a perfect story. You can't have goo a perfect sandwich without the perfect accoustrement. And I think that's what Gwen and her backstory does to this movie. It's so necessary for her and for the plot of the movie. And also they take what is seemingly a small plot point in the first movie and it ends up being a great tie into this movie. We get a villain who we interpret as Goofy early on and ends up being terribly menacing and overpowered,
and we still understand where he's coming from and his motivations. And like we said, the animation is truly innovative here, built on what the first movie did. We get several new techniques in this and they're all awesome, And finally go We're left with a sick lead into a third movie. I am giving more of these characters and this story, and literally had a case of the blue balls in the theater. Now, this movie moved me emotionally,
It made me laughed, It left me wanting more. It's been a long time since I've watched a movie like this, especially in animated one. So not only Goo, do I think this is better than the first movie? I think. I agree this is the best Spider Man movie ever made. I had Homecoming as number one before that, a little bit ahead of into the Spider Verse. Furthermore, Goo, I believe this to be the greatest animated comic book movie of all time, unseating the Incredibles. For me,
forty hot dogs. Well, Mac, I'm glad that you just said forty hot dogs because it's looking like we've got ourselves double box thumbs up. Magoo o me me me, Mac, I will also be going with forty hot dogs. This is just groundbreaking in every possible way, in its style and its storytelling. Everything is taken to a whole new level from the first movie. It is changing as well. You know, the atmosphere and the emotion of the movie is just moving like jazz. The characters are just so
wonderfully written, animated, performed. It just feels like a live action movie. And you know, Miles is a great character. But what they do with Gwen here like this is the Gwen Stacey movie that everyone asked for after the first movie, where it's almost like I came out of it thinking it's a fifty forty five split of Miles and Gwen, and either of them could have carried their own movie. But both of them are just such great characters
and what they gave us. Also, I love Spiderpunk and the animation that they gave us with him and how different that is. It looks like a punk rock scene, like an old concert poster that looks awesome. The first half of the movie is building up Gwen and Miles once again. The second half is just amazing action animation, throwing everything at you on the screen. And you know, I've seen some people who don't care for the amount of colors and animation that we got there, but I thought that that was a
roller coaster ride that we earned. Like we got there. It wasn't just like, you know, from the get go, let's throw colors out you, which they kind of did with Gwen stuff, but they built up to it, and everything in this movie is built up to through the first movie. I love this movie. It is the best Spider Man movie. It is the best movie on the year so far. I might be with you on best animated comic book movie. I'd have to think about it, but
I'm pretty sure you're right. Let me throw some movies at you for them. Yeah, go ahead. The Incredible is obviously is what I mentioned. Big Hero six is up there. Mask of the Phantasm is the one. I figure you might have number one if they were able to tidy up the animation and make it more modern. I think that story could be up there with this, okay, and then some other ones that I know people talk about. Under the Red Hood is up there on a lot of lists.
The Dark Knight Returns, but that is a two parter, so it might hurt each one individually. Of course, the first first one of these movies, into the Fighters, into the Spider Verse, some people say is the best. And then you also have movies like Lego Batman that that people really
love too. But to me, the only real competition to this for me on my list was The Incredibles, because the Incredibles does something similar or it brings you that family element and you care for these characters, and as good as it is, I don't think it feels as personal and live action like as this one does. That's why I put this one over that, and then you have it as the top movie on the year, number one movie
of twenty twenty three. First forty Dogger I've given out since everything everywhere else once, which is the only forty Dogger I had last year. I'm gonna put a bullet on that boom about that bang double forties. You're ready to spoil mac spoilers good. The premise of this movie is that the Alcamax explosion at the end of the first movie leaves Jonathan owne On. He's the gentleman
in the facility that gets hits by the Bagel in the first movie. He's left severely disfigured and ultimately given or gains superpowers from that explosion explosion becomes this
villain called the Spot who we don't take too serious from the outset. Additionally, as a result of that Alcomax colliders machines first use at the beginning of the first movie, This is what brings Miles his spider in how he gets his powers From that first use, There's been a cascade effect of riffs in other universes that has moved different spidies and different villains all over the place.
And because of that Macguel Spider Man twenty ninety nine Spider Man from the Future, assembles this team of Spider Man, Spider Women and everything in between two capture and basically get rid of or contain these anomalies. And because these anomalies, they tell us, can disrupt these cannon level events, and if you disrupt these events, as we see in Mumbattant, that can cause the universe to rip apart and essentially destroy everyone and everything in it. And we also
see that's what happens with O'Hara's original universe. Well, the one that he stepped into is that Okaya one of them. I couldn't tell which universe that was. Well, he found a Miguel O'Hara that also died, so he stepped in, took him out of the way, and then took his family. Yes, there you go. And so the goal of Miguel O'Hara is to capture and contain these anomalies before they cause irreversial damage. So one of the big moments in the film We Get Here You is we discover that Miles
is actually the first ever anomaly in the multiverse. He was never supposed to become Spider man because that Spider forty two was never supposed to be in his
universe. Yea. So this leads to the death of Chris Pines, Peter Parker and Miles's universe, which was also never supposed to happen, and then the Alkamax event at the conclusion of that movie leads to the creation of the Spot, which was never going, never supposed to happen, and now the Spot threatens the whole multiverse as well as trying to kill Miles's father to get revenge basically because the Spot was created by Miles. So now Miguel is saying,
you cannot go back. We have to let the death of your father happen. And so Miles is saying, I can do both. I can do he can Basically he's gonna try to and this plays into you know, it's a great foil these two characters. Miguel is regimented, is making very by the book decisions, as Miles like, no, fuck that, let me try to do both, let me try to prevent this. And so that's that's really the setup for the next movie, almost right, because we
don't even get a conclusion to that. Yeah, we're essentially I believe starting the next movie. So this one ends with Miles is in the wrong multiverse. He is on Earth forty two. He is face to face with himself, but this self is the Prowler. His father is dead in this universe. But it seems like Miles is ready to get out of that situation.
He's kind of figured it out. He's got that smart. But it's almost like Gwen and her team, which we do get Spider Man Newir at the end, the people and the theater cheered for not Nicholas Cage because Nicholas Cage was not in the movie. But it's that team versus mcguel's team, and it's a race to find Miles, and Miles might not even need either team to do his thing. Yeah, but Miles will need help getting back to his universe. You will need help because he does not have a dongle.
Yes, that's a good word for it. So yeah, that's the other big moment, big reveal, big twist in this movie goo is we realize that once Mileas escapes from all those Spider Men, women and everything in between, he gets back to that hub and he uses the go Home machine. It gets sent back to Earth forty two, which is where his spider is from, which is what his DNA is. But we don't know this initially
unless you really put two and two together, which some people did. We're watching on screen thinking he's talking to his real mother, and we see Gwen outside of the window of his bedroom and we're like, oh, she's right there looking out for him. But after like two minutes, you're like, hold on something, something's not right. She's not Rio's not quite picking up on what Miles is saying. Turns out Miles is in Earth forty two.
No one else is. This is the universe devoid of a Spider Man because the spider that was supposed to bite Spider Man ended up in Miles's universe. So we see it's sort of dystopian, right, there's burnt, there's fires everywhere, and we learned that the Miles in this universe has become the Prowler because his father has died. His father has died, and Uncle Aaron has
essentially raised him, has been helping out his mother. And then aside to that, Gwen, mcguel, Jess and Ben are all in miles is actual universe looking for Miles, not realizing he's in the other universe, but before Gwen and then that squad gets there, she goes, she picks up Peter b. I think she picks up Jess, the one on the motorcycle.
I'm pretty sure. No, she pretty much just picks up everyone from the first movie and couple well yeah, plus um the one who is like virtually sending herself to the Spider Universe, and a couple other You just mentioned the Prowler, and may I ask you this is that the best cameo that we have seen in the while with Donald Glover showing up as the Prowler. Yep. So we get a little like a throne room treasure room type of scene in here where we see a lot of giant Easter egg hall, yeah,
the anomalies, and where they're all kept in once they're captured. And in one of these little capture pods is Donald Glover live action, live action Donald Glover as the Prowler in his Prowler suit, presumably from the Tom Halland maybe we think could be different, Yes, it could be different, but it also it makes too much sense that it is the MCU one, which then makes you think, are they gonna have Miles morales eventually in the MCU was
this a future Prowler that got sent back to a different time. It could also be a different Prowler. We don't know. Yeah, And you see, so we got also odes to Andrew Garfield and uh Toby Maguire. They weren't actually in it. It was previous clips of them, and so then their homage or their their point too. I think Tom Holland was this Don Clover Donald Glover scene, but again we could be wrong about that. So that was that was a real nice That was a great pop in the thing.
Although we do get a reference to Tom Holland, Spider Man and two Doctor Strange. Yes, yeah, Miguel Harris is something to the effect of those two idiots almost messed everything up due the uh the animation in this movie. Let's get back to that for a second. Yes, Gwen's World is amazing because it resembles like a watercolor painting, and as the emotion and the scene shifts, the colors on screen shift, and it was really really cool, and it was like it was sort of incomplete. You know, you
see how watercolors kind of drift and don't really have defined outlines. That's what that that was, and I thought that was really cool. Loved it. In the India style Spider Man's Spider Man India, he lives in Mumbattan, which is Mumbai and Manhattan combined, and I thought those that world looked awesome too, and the way he uses his bracelets with the webs was awesome too. Yeah, I thought that was a great character. And then we mentioned
earlier Spiderpunk as well, where it looks like a punk rock poster. Yeah, it's like a collage style animation, which was really cool, especially to see it in a non collage world. And then of course you get the symbolism behind where mcguel's world is. It's this clean, crisp, futuristic, minimalistic type world. But I think the most amazing animation of it all was very early on in this movie. We get a like a Leonardo da Vinci
vulture in Gwen Stacy's where or it was it in Miles's world. It was Gwen's world, that's right, that's when when they first recruited her, and it was fucking amazing to see that animation up against Gwen's animation and all the tools and trinkets he had, and he had an Italian accent. It was so good. Yeah, because the first twenty minutes is set in Gwen's world. It's exactly twenty minutes, and I loved it. I thought this was
such a great open to the movie. It's essentially a prologue to the movie that gives you the background to Gwen Stacy that we didn't get in the first movie but was teased. Yep. So then we go and we catch up with Miles, and we meet Spot and we get the repercussions for the collider and what happened in the first movie. Yeah, and we're very early on not taking Spots serious. A great job by Jason Schwartzman by the way of
voicing this character. And we see he's still pretty new to this because he doesn't really understand his powers, just as we see with a lot of new heroes. He's still trying to figure it out as he tries to rob the atm There. Yep. And you know Miles, he has teenager problems, school parents, friends, girls. Yeah, Myles's father is getting promoted from sergeant or lieutenant to captain, which, of course, in all this Spider Man lure, a captain police officer is a big thing, and so Miles
is in charge of bringing cakes to the that came was so good. It was such a good cake joke. I wasn't expecting that. He gives us long speech about how proud Miles is of him and how he is of Miles, and they opened the cakes and it just says not proud, and it fucking killed us. That was good. It was a perfect joke. So, speaking of Lord and Miller, speaking of Lego, we also got Lego Spider Man here. And what this also does is it introduces us or reintroduces
us to JK. Simmons as j Jonah Jamison, who was just sprinkled. Ever So throughout the movie, yeah, we saw a few JK. Simmons voice or heard a few JK. Simmons voices, and a few universes. There was also a great one from Miguel Hair telling Lego Spider Man that he was one of their best ones. Yeah. Yeah, that was so funny too. So then Gwen comes back, she has the bracelet. She went
into the Multiverse Spidy control room. At the beginning of it. You also got that you know scene with her dad where her dad still wanted to arrest her. Yeah, very emotional scene. So then we go to Moonbatten the universe there where Miles accidentally stops a cannon event yep, And we also get a little bit more of punk rock Spider Man here, who was a great addition to the crew. He was I thought as funny as uh, Spider Pig and Spider Man Noir was who I forget the the who's the girl in
the robot? I forget it was the anime one. I felt like this was a better side character than those three. I think it's up there. I think they're very similar. Okay, okay, fair enough, fair enough, enough, enough enough. So let me go into the Spidy organization where we get the whole Easter rank thing, and once again, the Donald Glover one was the best one. It was great, It was perfect, and he played it well. He's just sitting there playing it cool, really good
and really one that I forgot. I can't believe that I forgot going into this that he was in Spider Man Homecoming. He was Miles his uncle, and I just forgot. Yeah. I didn't expect at all. I thought for sure we'd get Tom Holland. But it makes so much sense because once again Donald Glover was in solo Lord and Miller right right, did more than fifty percent of the production of drawing the correct dots there that we should have
drawn weeks ago. On top of that, we also saw the insomniac Spider Man, the one from the video games that got a good Pope, in Peter's room at the Vision's Academy. His roommate looked to be playing the Spider Man PS four game as well, which was all I like that too. And now you notice this, I think we all noticed this. Is that is that miguel is injecting himself with something. Yeah, so Spider Man twenty ninety nine, miguel O Hair is supposed to be like almost this beast like
vampire like Spider Man, and I don't really know much about him. We did get one quick scene of him doing that sort of este thing. But is he injecting himself so that he's not vampire full time dick? Or is he injecting himself to keep those pounds. I don't know. I don't know as much as you do. I barely know anything, but it'd be sick if he's morbious. If he's Jared Lettos Morbius, so you say that, and my pal friend of the podcast, Tom texted me, he goes,
you know what, I just had this thought, Miguel Michael vampires. Is it a morbous connection? Just give me Jared Lettos morbious this is This was the plan at the end of the movie where he wanted to team up with Michael Keaton's Vulture to kill Spider Man. Uh. And then we learned about all these cannon events, how every Spider Man has core and necessary cannon in order to make that universe go, and him preventing it in Mombattan could lead
to the destruction of that universe. And we learn here in the midst of the chase that in his next the next cannon in his in his story, in his timeline, it's his father's supposed to die at the hands of the spot. So that is before the chase. The chase, So what happens in the chase is, you know, everyone's chasing him, and then he finds out that he was a mistake. He was never supposed to be a
Spider Man, and Gwen and Peter b knew about it. By the way, Peter Bee does not show up until what like ninety minutes into this movie. Yeah, he pops up while they're in miguel O Harry's world. You're right, So they he finds out his father's supposed to die and that's what makes him take off. And then during that chase they found out he finds out that all his quote unquote friends knew he was an anomaly and that his dad's supposed to die and they got to keep him from knowing that, which
is like devastating for him. But that was a cool chase scene. Of course, ending up on that rocket that you know, he's like, bye, guys, Yeah poo, goes back to the machine, gets sent back wrong world. I mean, with the help of that girl though, So you saw there she had a decision. She could have terminated the go home thing, but she lets him go. That was Margot Kess, her characters Spider Bite. And then of course Gwen told him earlier in the movie you
know, don't tell your parents about this. But then he's telling his mom, but it's not his actual mom, and you think that she's listening in on that, but she's not at all. So you think she's making a decision there, and she's not at all making a decision. It was a good wool of your eyes moment for sure. So there are no post credit or mid credit scenes. We should have mentioned that in non spoilers, but
yeah, this movie's fucking dope. Our final shot of the movie is him getting captured by his uncle Aaron and Earth forty two and the Miles from that Earth, and he's strapped against the punching bag that we saw in Aaron's apartment from the first movie, and you feel like he's getting ready to break out of that. And you also have Gwen and her new team in the band. She's always wanted to be in a band, by the way. Gwen also went back to her own world for a little bit and she kind of
made up with her dad. Yeah, makes amends with her father, gets them a little bit of closure, then goes to recruit Peter B and this whole crew and looks like she's going to be jumping either to Miles's world or to Earth forty two. It could be either one, We're not sure. Peter B also has a baby, and there was a great call back to the First Spider Man where that might be the funniest line of the first one,
where he's like I think I'm ready to have kids. And if you remember, in the first one, his backstory involves him getting divorced, and so now you know, on the in between, he's gotten back together and they now have a kid, and she's get an adorable little spider man mass she can pull over her face. Oh, let me ask you what you think of Miles's mom. It's pretty hot, right, Oh yeah, come on, don't get me started on that. Get the little curl right in
the front. She is my exact style. Geez two dimension all. So once again, I'm going forty hard hot dogs on this. I love it. I love everything about it. And frozen forty dogs. Yeah, n give me more. I am so excited for this next movie. I I'm curious how they fill two and a half more hours now. Yeah, same. I have complete faith in them to give me exactly what I want.
Yeah. I almost feel like, and this is not the way to say it, but I almost feel like the third movie is a bit doomed because what else is there left to do besides resolve the spot and his father's stuff. Will there'll be a new villain? Will there be a really long spidy verse spidy stuff? I feel like, if the last movie is more than ninety minutes, I'll be stunned, but it'll probably be a kick ass ninety
minutes. Let me ask you this question too, not really having to do with this movie all though, what kind of does because it is Lord and Miller. If I were to ask you to put them on a list of creators that you trust the most, would they be in your top three? So the first two I thought of immediately were a Gun and Takoyd. These guys might be third. I'm trying. I might trust them a little more
than Wad. Maybe maybe they're in the same realm. Possibly again, I like thora Loven Thunder then just more than just about every person on the planet. But yeah, Lord and Miller has have don't even really have a miss. Yeah, if we're doing a Mount Rushmore, it's those three and then Alan Smithy. Those would be the four on the Rushmore for sure. Yeah, so if you want to make that graphic, that'd be great. Other Billy day, Yeah, Max Maxac could be anything. It could be a
boat and Mac. This week, this past couple of days, we have gotten season three of I think you should leave. And although I am only three episodes in I have had myself a time three two what goat? Oh we're croners, guys, we're crooners. Go ahead. The driving crewer dot com baby fuck to try fuck to trying to make it look fake. That was the first one that killed me, Absolutely killed me. I also really liked the Dating Show one. The Dating Show was the first one that killed
me. Loves the zip line, says the zip line. Even in the credits for it, you see him in the background the zip line, and I'm like, what are they going to do with this? And it did not die. They introduced Mike from Adventure three sixty five that talks about him tugging on the zip line. So good. So I was able to watch through once and I'm in the midst of a second watch through, but it's nothing's quite ingrained in my memory yet. I'm gonna need like five more rewatches.
Like I'm not sure if it is better than season two. I don't think it is, but I think it might have as many possible quotes or memorable things. I also think Tim does a better job of leaning into the ship we loved from the first two seasons, so it's more of him in his pronunciation of certain words and random swears and shit like that. But I also do think he might fall into if a sketch isn't necessarily working, he just does a voice. Yeah, that's true. Once again, there's Sam
Richardson's sketches very low. They got to stop using him in the same exact characters. Oh you know what, I wasn't a huge fan of the rat Mom The rat Mom. I thought it was a funny premise, and I thought it was a funny premise at the beginning, and then when you found out what was going on, it wasn't that still okay? Yeah, but yeah, we will have a full review of I think you should leave season three either at the end of next week or the beginning of the week after
