From the time we are little children, we press the boundaries for greater self-reliance, quickly falling into the sin of being self-sufficient, an attribute we think is important for getting along in life. It’s a matter of pride and survival, of our sinful human nature. After all, wasn’t that what Adam and Eve were looking for? Wasn’t it really the desire to be like God, so that they would not have to rely on Him?
