Reena Virk grew up in Saanich, British Columbia, in a predominantly Sikh community. However, the Virk family had converted to Jehovah's Witnesses, which meant Reena and her siblings were prohibited from participating in many of the celebrations and social events that other children enjoyed. Due to these strict religious beliefs and some other factors, Reena was often bullied and struggled to find acceptance and friends. In her longing for belonging, she eventually fell in with a group of delinquents who somewhat took her in, and she began mimicking their reckless behavior, engaging in activities like drinking, smoking, and partying. Tragically, these so-called friends would ultimately lead to her demise.
