Episode description

Hey there, this is Ron, and welcome to episode 154 of the Lost Trailrunner podcast. This episode is a bit shorter than usual, but it comes with an important update from Mountain Park.

I've been under the weather this past week, and it has thrown my PeachTree training plan off course. It all started on Wednesday afternoon after an easy MAF 5k run. By the time I got home, every muscle in my body was aching, and my temperature had risen. Over the next couple of days, I battled a high fever, sore throat, and a persistent cough that made even simple tasks feel exhausting. Although my temperature has come down, I am still dealing with lingering symptoms.

Despite feeling unwell, I decided to take a walk at Mountain Park. Walking seems to help, and I feel better when I'm moving. I discuss how my fever fluctuated and how I've been managing my symptoms. I also share my thoughts on whether it could be COVID-19 or just a severe cold. Thankfully, my fever has broken, and I'm hoping to get back to running soon.

During my walk, I reflect on the importance of staying active even when you're not feeling your best. Walking might not be as strenuous as running, but it's better than doing nothing. I aim to walk 45 minutes every day to maintain some level of fitness until I can resume my regular training schedule.

In this episode, I also mention a new AI feature from Podbean that I'm considering using to enhance the podcast. This feature can generate show notes and edit out pauses, hums, and coughs, which might be particularly useful given the number of breaks in this recording.

Join me on this journey as I navigate through this challenging week and look forward to getting back on track. Thanks for listening, and I hope to bring you a more positive update in the next episode. Keep the emails coming in and be sure to subscribe!

Introduction

Hey, this is Ron, and this is a not-so-long episode 154 of the Lost Trailrunner podcast. Music. Podcast. Hey, I'm down at Mountain Park this afternoon. I probably sound like I got a frog in my throat. I do. My peach tree training is pretty much on hold right now because this is Friday and Wednesday afternoon. I ran an easy math 5k and after I got home, I was aching all over. I mean, every muscle in my body hurt, I think.

And I checked my temperature and it was like 99.1 originally, but I just felt like crap, and then later on that evening, I checked it again, and it was 100.1, and I just went to bed, and just not feeling good at all, and I woke up Thursday morning and I just couldn't get out of bed, man. I was just shot. I hurt all over. I don't know what COVID's like. I don't know if that's what it was, but it just made, I mean, it just took my strength away from me.

Anyway, I checked my temperature through the day on Thursday, and the highest it got was 101.9, and I pretty much slept most of the day. And then in the afternoon, well, in the evening, well, I took some ibuprofen. And I had a sore throat, and I still got a little bit of a cough. bit of a sore throat. But so Thursday, my temperature started out at 101.9 and then that was in the morning early.

And then around noontime, I checked it again and it was like a 100.1 and then it came down to uh 99 something late in the evening so i just went to bed and i woke up this morning and my temperature was 98.5 so i still got this stupid cough and phlegm and all that crap but. A little bit of a sore throat. And I just, it's like every muscle in my body's tired, you know?

I mean, so I just said my whole three day a week training plan with, runner, I put it on hold because I was supposed to do like a 10 mile run on Saturday. And I go, I can't run 10 miles. That's terrible. I can't even run right now. So that's basically what I'm doing is I'm walking for 45 minutes at Mountain Park. And hopefully, I'm hoping by Sunday, I might be able to run an easy five miles and try to get back in it. But if not, I'll just deal with it.

I guess walking's better than nothing. I can walk even though I don't, I mean, I don't hurt right now walking. It's not like my muscles are sore. As long as I'm moving, I'm okay. It's when I'm at home and I'm sitting around, I just start feeling like crap. And of course, when I walk upstairs to my bedroom, it's like, that's a workout just going upstairs. So hopefully things will recover and I can get back with it.

I wasn't planning on putting out a short podcast to tell you I was doing absolutely nothing. So, but I am, that's what I'm going to do. This is just Just to say my whole plan is basically on hold until this thing comes around. I figured it couldn't be COVID because my temperature went down so quick, you know? Unless I'm not just as susceptible to it or something.

Exploring Mountain Park

Hi, how you doing? Good. Mountain Park on the trail part, the backside of Mountain Park has a little, it's about, I don't even think it's a half mile long trail, but it's in the woods. So it breaks up going around the paved track. It's late in the evening. I was debating whether I was even going to come out and try to walk. I just wasn't in the mood. I mean, food tastes like crap. I'm not hungry. Really, I've been eating and drinking just to do it, not to enjoy it.

Because, I mean, I had some barbecue at lunch today, pulled pork, and I only ate like half the sandwich because it just didn't have any flavor.

Reflecting on Symptoms

And all these little things like that remind me of COVID, the things I've heard about COVID. I'm cool with that. But I deny that that's what it is or was. But some of the symptoms that I've heard people talk about seem to be very similar to what I've experienced since Wednesday. And just seeming to get over them today on Friday, still have a sore throat and I still got a cough. But I'm able to walk anyway, and it's not, I mean, it's not tiring. Like, I'm walking about the speed I normally walk.

I usually walk around between 19 and 20-minute pace when I walk. I don't, I wouldn't call it a strenuous exercise walk. It's kind of a meander, but it's my normal stride, you know. So, I'm able to do that and I don't feel bad doing it, so... From what I've heard about COVID, people get where they can hardly just move at all. It's like just walking is a chore. Now, that's what it felt like going upstairs, walking was a chore.

But out here, walking on the trail and walking on the paved path and everything is just fine. So I'm thinking I really don't, I didn't have COVID. I might just have had a bad cold and it just hit me weird or something but i did have a fever but it went back down which was a good sign as soon as it went down to like 98.5 i figured well, whatever it is i must be getting over it because the fever broke.

But this cough is just a pain you know so anyway that's my story for today and I'll probably put this out in a little short podcast just to get one out And hopefully my next episode will be more positive than this. It's all I can hope for, right? But I figure if I can walk 45 minutes every day that I'm not able to run, at least I'm moving and getting some benefit.

I mean, it ain't going to make me faster or my endurance a lot higher, but I'm probably not going to lose as much as I would have if I had just not done anything.

Strolling Through the Park

So hopefully things will work out. and then out of the woods and i'm back on the paved trail and i've got in about nine tenths of a mile and i've been walking 1806 so yeah there's there's a an astroturf football field here, a really good little stadium and they use it to practice soccer on whenever it's not football ball season and there's a bunch of kids out there right now and there's a quite a few, baseball diamonds and softball diamonds and a playground it's a nice little

park and the way i'm walking it right now i think one loop will give me close to a mile and a half, and at my pace that i'm walking 45 minutes should give me about 2.3 miles more than likely. We'll see.

Trying AI Show Notes

I think I'm going to try something different. I have my podcast with Podbean. That's where I have it, where I produce it is in Podbean. And they've just added an AI feature. And if I activate that AI feature, it'll It'll automatically do show notes, and it'll also clip out, you know, when I hum and haw and cough and do that sort of thing. It'll automatically remove that stuff from the podcast. So I thought I might, I think it's got a free trial for a couple of weeks or something.

And then it's extra money to pay with my subscription to the service. But it may be worth it. So I'm going to try it and see what happens. And probably on this particular little short podcast, because I've got a lot of breaks in it, you know, where when I walk by people and things, I quit talking and things like that. So we'll we'll see how it works and I guess I'll cut this thing off unless I come up with something else later on so. Music.

Thanks for listening to today's podcast. We'll be here next time. Keep the emails coming in and be sure to subscribe. Music.
