happens, yep. And you were also a peer of doctor Richard ashe my late husband. He had the radio show Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired for over twenty years on war and he was a big fan of yours. You were part of his research development team for this Pure Essential supplement line, and you've come back. Pure Essentials is a sponsor of this show. It's pure hyphend Essentials dot com for those of you who want to find us on the web. But you are an expert, you're part of the company.

Today we're talking about getting our bodies into arrest and digest state and anxiety and stress are off the charts, people are wired and tired, or sleep, lack of energy. It's a recipe for health situations, Melissa, let's talk about it all right, let's do that when we'll start with you know, what does it mean to be in arrest and digest state? Right? So, we have what's called our autonomic nervous system, which maybe it should

be called the automatic nervous system. I'm not going to rewrite medical books, but the autonomic nervous system actually is automatic. You know, if you think about your lungs, you're not telling yourself to breathe, they're doing it. You're not telling your heart to beat, the blood to flow, it's doing it. That's what happens. We also have our sympathetic nervous system, which

is our fight or flight experience. You know, you have a wild tiger coming at you in your backyard, and you know it's time to let the adrenaline in and we're going to run for our lives. Right. That doesn't really happen in my neighborhood, but it might in somebody's. We have our parasympathetic nervous system, that's our resting state. So it's like we're going all the way up, but then the parsons that a nervous system kicks in and goes, oh, hold on a second, let's bring that back down.

The danger's over, and then we have our enteric nervous system that's our guts. We're not going to talk about that today. That's going to be a different show when we're talking about gut health and other specific digestive enzymes. So when somebody is in a stressed state, and just giving the world that we live in, there's toxins is our food, there's toxins in our environment.

It is hard to eat perfectly clean, even if we're eating clean, it's just the world that we live in tends to be contaminated, and our bodies naturally can't keep up with detoxication, with rest, with repair, rebuild properly, and we start to see issues happening and it's expressed in our nervous systems. Yeah, that's exactly what happens. The nutrition, the food that you're talking about, not being able to eat the best quality food, the toxins,

those kinds of things. That's a whole separate ball game. But the stress that people are under currently when it comes to our nervous system. Perception is reality, right. I've heard that all through life, perception is reality, and you know, it's always been related to me in such a way that you know, just because I think something some way doesn't mean that it is so as somebody else might see it another way. That's their perception and

that becomes their reality as well. But in this situation, perception being reality. If someone or you know, if our eyes or our body perceives a stressor for instance, you're driving in the car and all of a sudden someone cuts you off, that's a perceived stress. Your eyes are like, oh my gosh, this person's going to hit me. Our body goes like that with the adrenaline because our body perceives this as a situation that we need to

run for our lives. We get the same response as if that mountain lion or that wild tiger is coming at us and living our lives up here all the time. Our organs just can't keep up. The nervous system is tied to our organs, tied to our kidneys, tied to our stomach, tied to our guts. Everyone's hearing now, the brain gut connection, it's a

thing. It happens, and it gets compromised or overused, overworked. When we are spending our lives like this and getting way upset and up here over every single solitary thing that we come in contact with, and wells people when they're really stressed out, they get digestive issues. There's a whole host of things that speak to that. So most of what does it mean to be in our arrest and digest state. It means that the parasympathetic nervous system is

doing its job. It means that you're getting nutrients, you're getting good food. There's different ways to ignite the parasympathetic nervous system. Simple humming, humming at a specific tone, breathing. When you're in a really super anxious state, You're goal. Body's goal is to fight or flight, fight, flight, or freeze. That's what your body does. Once the threat is over. Now your body needs to come back to kind of ground level. You know, let's come back to the basis, to the basics, to the

basis, to the homeostasis, whatever term you want to use. So then you use other tactics to get there. Quick breathing too quick in through the nose, one long through the mouth. If you're super stressed, that's a way to ignite or poke the paras into that nervous system and say, all right, let's come back to the middle. Let's relax so that everything can kind of go back to normal. Blood flow goes back to normal, peristalsis, stomach processes go back to normal. Your digestion, it literally is rest

so that you can digest. Have you ever felt really, really nervous and you just feel like you got this gut punch and it just goes like that of court, everybody does, Right, it's some point maybe when you're in tune with your body and that happens, that's your queue to go. Hold on a second, let's bring this down a notch. Long term up here kind of stress. It wears down, It wears down the body, It

wears down the organs. You know when someone comes in, you know when doctor ashe had the center, and someone would come in and they're talking about one, two, three, four, What was the first thing that he would give them? Very first thing lactodophilus, Yeah, the probiotic. What's going on in your god health? What are you? What are you eating? You know most people would say, you know, I had a healthy

breakfast. I had a bagel and cream cheese, and we'd have to break that down and say, no, it's not which you think it is. And really, the first thing we do change somebody's diet around and supplement with pure essentials. You'd put them on a specific program, and food and supplement was the basis diet in supplement exactly. So we have to calm the nervous system and then let's address the nutrition or dietary supplements one of the two.

And so we note that it's important to be able to regulate our nervous system. It's important for a whole of thosts of reasons and just for general health. We are constantly being stressed, even if it's not emotional stress, it's stress of just living in the world that we live in with contaminants, with all different types of toxins around us, with our body's ability to break it

down and repair already compounded with a toxic burden. So let's what can happen if we ignore this or if we aren't able to reach rest and digestate. Yeah, I mean, if you ignore it, serious health problems can come up. Has anyone ever heard chronic fatigue syndrome or adrenal fatigue ulcers. We wear out our parts. We're no different than well, we are different than

a vehicle. But you know, there are similarities with our vehicles if we don't do the preventative maintenance on them, or if we run them hard all the time without putting the appropriate nutrients for the vehicle in edge, you put the appropriate fuel, you put the appropriate oil, all of those things. If we don't do that with our system, we burn out too. Yeah.

We used to see it a lot of patients, especially in finance and banking, with just such severe adrenal fatigue from burning the candles at both end all day, long hours, high stressed jobs. They'd be ya thirties, forties and absolutely burned out. Yeah. And my coaching practice, my nutrition coaching practice for the last I don't know, since two thousand and four, most of the clients that I see are moms. We're looking at thirty to forty year old moms. They're tired, they're stressed out. You know,

the world that we live in now require so much from us. You start to add children into that mix, and the world in the schools require so much from them. People are wired and tired, and they just can't seem to bring it down a notch. They can't seem to get into that rest and digest phase. You know, they have insomnia, or they're waking up. You know, maybe it's not a problem of not being able to go to sleep, but maybe they go to sleep and then they wake up at

two three o'clock in the morning. They can't go back to sleep. Maybe they have gut issues, maybe they have food sensitivities, maybe they have exzema or psoriasis. Those are physical manifestations of the energy and the nervous system breakdown in the body. So when you see something on someone's skin, that is an outward reflection of an inward condition. Something's happening on the inside that has to be addressed. And also, what can we do to help rest our

nervous system? Great question. If we want to look at physical things, things that we can do. We can, like we were talking about a minute ago, the breathing, you know, the two quick breaths in through the nose, one long, one out through the mouth. We can have a cup of tea if that's something that helps relax, you hang out with friends, laughing. Laughter is always really good medicine, laughter and love. Those are medicines, they really are. Taking a walk outside is brilliant,

but taking a walk in nature that's up level. That's even better. Doing physical movement like yoga, which helps put you into a meditative state as well, Chee Gong tai chi. Those movements that energy intentionally. Yawning is an activator. So if you don't feel like you know, you can just yawn because you're tired or sheer body to do that. It's an intention, it's an activator. One of our new recommendations because it's so brilliant, Thank you

Pure Essentials for this one is pure Zen. Pure Essentials formulated pure Zen, which is a dietary supplement. It's a phenomenal product. I take it myself. Yeah. Pure Essentials is getting extremely good feedback on pure Zen. Pure Zen is full of adaptogens, full of no tropics, full of neurotransmitters. So it's all of the nutrients that our body needs to rest and prepare for digestion. So it's helping the cognitive function upstairs to say, WHOA put the

brakes on. Hang on a second, can you talk about adaptogens and neutropis. So now those are two words that we're hearing a lot, But I don't know if people really know what they need. Yeah, super simple and adaptogen adapts to what it needs to be in our body. So sometimes someone doesn't need a very specific nutrient, like someone could be deficient in magnesium.

You're going to need magnesium. But if you have a situation or a condition, there can be multiple herbs that are beneficial and those will adapt to be what the body needs them to be in that human being, so that that human being is getting what they need out of it. Herbs and plants, you can think of it in that way. No. Tropics are a chemical that is used to help cognitive and memory function in the brain. I know, it's like a huge buzzword right now. It is that simple. It

is an ingredient. It is an item that helps with calming the brain, calming the upstairs so that cognitive and memory function is improved. I always sort of look at it for myself as meditation in a bottle. It does have such a calming effect. I take one in the evening just to sort of recenter myself and it works. And Melissa too, Can you talk also a little bit about just the quality of that, because I know what we see online. There's a whole bunch of different products making claims, doing this,

doing that. But Pure Essentials was always manufactured with this intention of being a new straceutical quality supplement, a step above the rest. Just talk a little bit about that for our listeners. Yeah, definitely, thank you. Pure Essentials was designed to be better than the rest, and I know that lots of companies use that in their marketing. I would challenge everyone to take a look at the labels. The labels say at all. The labels don't lie.

There isn't any additional I like to call it junk in Pure Essentials. Things like magnesium steerrate doesn't seem like a big deal, But when you're talking about cardboard dust or multidextrin that comes from corn, corn is a very highly gmode product. There are other excipients that are used that I wouldn't choose to put in my body. Titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, those are not things

that I would want to put in my body. Working with clients that have food and chemical sensitivities and seeing the extremes that their bodies have gone to to protect them, or you know, things that have happened to them exemasteriasis, dietary issues, gut issues, chronic diarrhea, chronic fatigue. Giving those clients the best possible product has become the high priority, and there are times when those additional ingredients have effects on the person's body. I had a colleague and

a friend. He's a chiropractor and a nutritionist. He's one of my mentors down in Houston, Texas. Had a patient that went to every doc on the planet. That's an exaggeration, I know, but this patient of his went to all of these docks. He did food and chemical sensitivity testing on this patient, did genetic nutritional testing on this patient. Turns out there was an ingredient corn in the supplement that one of his previous providers was giving him.

Well, he was reactive to that corn. That corn was the root, one of the roots of all of his issues. So we wanted to make sure a Pure Essentials that's not the case. That everything is listed there so if someone has a or chemical sensitivity tests, they can trust that what's on that bottle is actually in that bottle. They go to great lengths at

Pure Essentials to make sure all of the testing is done. Everything is in, everything is secure, and that these supplements can be used for therapeutic purposes. I am Rachel Ash your host. For anybody who wants to take pure Zen or fine pure n or more information on it, they can go on the Pure Essentials website which is www dot pure hyphen Essentials dot com. That's pure dash e ss E nti als dot com. Or we have an office it's open Monday through Friday, nine thirty to five pm and in the phone number two one two seven to five eight thirty two hundred. That's two one two seven to five eight three two zero zero.

And Melissa, another question for you, for somebody who wants to take pure z in or try pure Zen. This is a product that can really be for anybody. If you're stressed, if you need to calm your central nervous system, if your nervous system is the root of any chronic illness that's going on, your stomach, gissues, your anxiety, you name it. It really is the root of so much in our health and for good health. How would you suggest someone taking it? Yeah, I'm gonna say that

because there's gabba in there. If someone is gabba deficient and we take that gabba, it might make you really super sleepy. So if you're just starting out, you're brand new, I would say take one thirty minutes before you want to go to bed. So if you want to be in bed at ten o'clock, take it at nine thirty. Well, you're going to do a little bit of experimenting with this. This is why it's called practice, because you have to find what works for your body. If you don't notice

a whole lot, maybe take two before bedtime. If it doesn't make you crash, you could probably be okay to take one in the morning as well. But you need to find what works for your body. So I would recommend taking it at bedtime first and work on your sleep. You know, if someone is having a difficult time getting into rest and digest I would challenge that they probably have some sort of sleep disturbance or sleep issue as well. And so as part of any remedy situation, let's fix our sleep first.

Sleep is so important. Deep sleep is where our body rests it's where it heals, It's where all the magic happens. Let's fix that sleep, getting that deep rim sleep. And I know a lot of times when people are on medications for sleeping, they're not getting in that rim, that restorative sleep which they need. So having a product that it helps you get into that restorative sleep makes solid difference. It's not just knocking you out, it's actually

allowing your body to rest, retear and rebuild. And Melissa, I know gabba is something that we're hearing a lot about. It's an ingredient in pure zen. Can you talk to us a little bit about that. Also? What is gabba? Sure, it's an amino acid neurotransmitter, and it very simply put is the brakes in a stressful situation. If you get into maybe an emotional response, you get into a conversation, you get into an argument, get cut off in the grocery store with somebody in their bungy who knows

what it can be, and you have that immediate flash. The GABBA, the neurotransmitter is what kind of puts the brakes on and goes per hold on a second that's going too far, too fast. So again that whole breaking it and coming down for the rest and digest. It's it's finding the balance, it's finding what works for each individual. Everybody, every space, body is different. Yeah, is there anything else we need to know about pure Zen? I mean, I think it's a fantastic product taking care of our

nervous system. Yeah, pures zn has there's another good buzzword that's all around right now, has ashwaganda. That so helpful when it comes to the rest and digest. It is an adaptagen. There's also bacopa, there's elthionine, there's rodeola, which is helpful. All of those are helpful for the brain, also helpful for the adrenals. So this is really a catch all emotional, rest and digest type assistive product. Again, I'm going to piggyback on

what you said. This is assistance. It's not a sedative. It's not automatic. It doesn't work like a here take this pill and boom there it is. Although some people have reported that it feels that way, that might just be reflective of where their system is and they needed that much assistance and

it helped them and was that impactful for them. Really neat, It's great to have natural means that can be so helpful, and that it's nice to know people are doing the research to create high quality products that are effective, that don't have toxins in them, that are just done at a different quality. So I really commend the direction that the company has always had and continue used to take in just producing a superior product. Lists out. So great

to be doing the show together. Yeah, this was really really exciting. We started this journey a few years ago. I remember just being a guest on your show, and now we're doing it together.
