E159 - Devorah Kur - Not Why Me But What Now, Finding Meaning in Our Challenges

It all started in 1996 when my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. At the time I was running my own corporate interior design company, and loving the creativity.

After his diagnosis, I became obsessed with the role of patients in their health, healing and illnesses. A new world opened up for me as I began exploring healing and what wellness meant. Was healing only up to doctors, or did we, as patients, have a role to play?

Many fascinating books and teachers came into my life, who inspired me further, like Dr Bernie Siegel, who explores the role of the patient as an active participant in his own healing.

Encouraging patients to take ownership of their healing, he says, “We are the soil in which the disease roots itself.” Deb Shapiro, Deepak Chopra, Caroline Myss and many more inspired me as I became more passionate about our ability to heal and to be healed.
