Episode description

This week I vented to Catherine about my thoughts on a modern phenomenon I've decided to call "Toxic Relatability".  In an era dominated by online (omni)presence, we've witnessed a shift from aspirational girlbosses to the emergence of self-proclaimed relatable advice-givers. While this change initially seemed refreshing and beneficial, I’m now finding that I've never felt so judged.

From the ever-looming fear of "the ick" and our incessant pursuit of spotting "red flags" to the rampant overuse and misuse of terms like ‘gaslighting’ and ‘boundaries’, we find ourselves adrift in a sea of misguided counsel and these one-size-fits-all rules. How do we know whose advice to listen to and when does advice turn toxic?

I also shared the common mistake we all unwittingly make when we get into a relationship, the art of “looking ugly”, the truth about snooping in your significant other’s phone, my theory about sad girls, and the five psychological tricks I’m obsessed with.
