Episode description

Sam's back for an exciting week at LA to welcome our three awesome LITerns—Lauren, Tatum, and Careena —who are already bringing fresh energy to our team. They’ll be handling our TikTok content and design projects. We also celebrated 44 years of Littlefield Agency and welcomed our newest member to the team, Kendall Keylor

On this week's episode, Roop and Sam talk about the new features of ChatGPT 4o. The latest updates are a game-changer (and are also free for everyone), offering multimodal capabilities that allow the AI to process text, images, and even voice inputs. You can now use your camera to show ChatGPT your surroundings and getting real-time descriptions or having it generate detailed charts from raw data.

At Littlefield, we are always trying to reimagine how we use new technology advancements to be more efficient, without replacing the human touch that is so important in marketing. So check out this week's episode to see how you can use AI as a tool for your B2B brand and we'll catch you next week!

Tell us what you think!

Roop

00;00;33;07 - 00;00;33;29

Roop

On an island.

00;00;34;02 - 00;00;42;13

Sam

On an island laundering money. Which, for those that are listening, you know, that would be the Cayman Islands. So,

00;00;42;15 - 00;00;48;14

Roop

That I don't know anything about how to do it, but I feel like it's an important knowledge to have.

00;00;48;16 - 00;01;00;21

Sam

Nice. Glad I love it. yeah. Government, if you're listening. It's not. It's not laundering money. He's enjoying time with his family and a wonderful.

00;01;00;24 - 00;01;12;16

Sam

so there's. You can pick up now, this is a prerecorded episode. we are just being proactive here. We got rip out next week, and, which is technically this week, while you're listening, we hope you are. And soaking up some sun. Do you tan?

00;01;12;18 - 00;01;13;06

Roop

Not?

00;01;13;09 - 00;01;37;06

Sam

Okay. A lot of sunblock. Supposed to be nice weather. Yeah, well, if cloud was with the cloud, we get Italian tan. Because you are Italian, right?

Claudia

Yeah, totally.

Sam

That's the thing. okay. Hey. With us, it's a very special day. It's, Monday, June 3rd. Again. You're listening to this. A week from now, we have three lovely lit turns in the room with us right behind the cameras.

00;01;37;08 - 00;01;49;28

Sam

Yeah, there we go. we've got Lauren, we have Tatum, and we have Carina Campbell. Campbell is the keyword there. Carina is Brock's daughter. You knew this? Yes. That's good.

00;01;50;00 - 00;01;52;17

Roop

Well, yeah.

00;01;52;19 - 00;02;08;12

Sam

Anyway, Lauren's been here for, about two weeks now, right? And Tatum joined us on her first day today. And so this Carina, we are so excited to have the three of you there in the studio with us. We're going to probably spend most of the summer, as we're recording, which will be great. they bring an energy and an excitement.

00;02;08;12 - 00;02;17;28

Sam

It's so funny. Chris Kaiser walked through in the kitchen early. I was like, Holy cow, it's a party for a Monday. And I was like, dude, I know it's the I'm bring in. He goes, it's a good thing for a Monday. It's a wonderful thing.

00;02;18;00 - 00;02;24;08

Roop

We've historically in the last couple of years had the intern actually on the podcast as the guest at some point. So later in there.

00;02;24;11 - 00;02;45;18

Sam

So maybe said stay tuned. Yeah. We had no don't don't worry. No pressure. It'll be good. Yeah. So there specifically Karina and Tatum will be handling some of our TikTok. Lauren is a designer by trade and she's phenomenal. So really excited to have the three of you here this summer and in the studio today. Ruth, you're coming off a big evening, a Sunday evening.

00;02;45;18 - 00;02;47;20

Sam

Can you guys tell? Can you tell us.

00;02;47;22 - 00;02;49;05

Roop

So much happening a little.

00;02;49;07 - 00;02;50;23

Sam

There's a it's a busy week. Yeah.

00;02;50;23 - 00;02;51;18

Roop

Started on Sunday.

00;02;51;25 - 00;02;53;19

Sam

Yeah. It's okay. Kick it off.

00;02;53;22 - 00;02;59;14

Roop

So you've probably heard us talk here in there about the trivia team. LFG is the name of the team.

00;02;59;15 - 00;03;01;09

Sam

Yep. It's great. Great team.

00;03;01;11 - 00;03;11;20

Roop

Different trivia to say that out loud. we've been Thursday nights. For how long are you? Two months. Very nice. Nice.

00;03;11;22 - 00;03;13;23

Sam

I was gonna say it's been February.

00;03;13;25 - 00;03;24;09

Roop

Yeah. going to trivia night at a place called Lansing's left for nice, and, and, you know, they invited us to the citywide championships a couple of weeks ago.

00;03;24;09 - 00;03;29;16

Sam

And we knew. Invited because you you guys regularly compete. Well, you've won a couple of times.

00;03;29;18 - 00;03;37;17

Roop

What we found out was in the period for qualification, we finished first three times and second by five or something that kind of judge us in there.

00;03;37;20 - 00;03;41;10

Sam

And can you tell our listeners who the team consists of on on for out to the regular?

00;03;41;14 - 00;03;51;26

Roop

It's a fluid group and it's usually, Tom, Zach, Jake, me, Claudia. Sarah Reynolds. Taylor.

00;03;51;28 - 00;03;55;00

Sam

That's kind of the core. Core group. Phillip goes there from time.

00;03;55;03 - 00;04;12;20

Roop

bath. Yeah, yeah, that's. And then the spouses and friends show up quite a bit, too. But they pick five to go to this championships. That was yesterday evening at 15 teams. It was a shuffles downtown which was let's go. We got a huge group to show to support us. there they had cut out letters and LFG.

00;04;12;20 - 00;04;13;28

Roop

And when they show up.

00;04;14;00 - 00;04;15;26

Sam

Super cool me in the room.

00;04;15;26 - 00;04;33;14

Roop

There in another room. That was cool. we we were going into the final question in third place. Just three points behind, which is like really one question, the behind first place. We felt good, but the last question was three points. And if you don't get it right, you lose those points. And if you get it right, you gain those points.

00;04;33;16 - 00;04;44;14

Roop

So we were not among the group of five that got the highest score on those. That was the last four. So we dropped it down just to seven points. But overall it was really good. We we competed pretty well.

00;04;44;17 - 00;05;00;21

Sam

Hey I'm proud of you. I think it's awesome that you guys did that, especially on a Sunday evening. Right. That's usually kind of a win down time. And he had a good crew representing. When I saw the post seventh place, I was shocked. But now it makes sense. Right? You were super close. And, and, Clyde, I love it.

00;05;00;24 - 00;05;20;18

Sam

well, congrats to you guys. So they're kicking off a great week here. Lit turns here today. Wednesday is Littlefield Agency's 44th anniversary in business. We call it Littlefield Agency Day. the mayor in 2020 actually proclaimed June 5th Littlefield Agency day. I'm pretty sure it's just June 5th, 2020, but I'm just going to roll with every June 5th going forward.

00;05;20;21 - 00;05;27;25

Sam

so so an ode to David Littlefield, our, our chairman and our founder. without him, we wouldn't be here.

00;05;27;27 - 00;05;29;11

Roop

We should get that day off.

00;05;29;13 - 00;05;37;16

Sam

Yes. And going into topic number one. Come on, man, good lordy. Now we got to celebrate together.

00;05;37;19 - 00;05;38;05

Roop

Oh, okay.

00;05;38;09 - 00;05;57;29

Claudia

We got it. It's like a it's our birthday.

Sam

Happy birthday I love it. Yes. so again when you're listening to this, will already have, done little fil A's today. You'll see some, some posts on social media, but it'll be great day. Okay, so, we have one main topic there is, roup. Right before we went live this morning, said, hey, we need to talk about Google's leaked algorithm.

00;05;57;29 - 00;06;03;12

Sam

We're going to give you just a snippet of information, and then there will be, follow up with this in a couple of weeks, please.

00;06;03;16 - 00;06;15;22

Roop

Yeah. So over the weekend, Phillip brought this to my attention. He was, clowning around corners on the internet and found that the Google Core search algorithm had been leaked, and I was kind of suspicious of this.

00;06;15;28 - 00;06;16;27

Sam

Don't, don't.

00;06;16;29 - 00;06;36;28

Roop

Yeah. I was like, how did this happen? And, he did some more research on it that it's real. and so folks are kind of tearing through, every line of code that goes into the Google search result. Previously, we knew about it. We talked about before maybe a dozen factors that determine the search result. on Google, this is all of them, over 200.

00;06;36;28 - 00;06;45;21

Roop

We knew there was over 200. This is exactly what the 200 are. I'm reading about it now. other folks are going through it, and we'll probably do a full podcast on it when I get back.

00;06;45;24 - 00;07;04;15

Sam

Yeah. You know what? Beth was glowing this morning. She's our page. She's our paid search campaign manager, so I think, I think Beth is. She got sadly this weekend, which is great, but I think it has to do with this leaked algorithm. we should we will probably have Beth with us or Chris on that episode to be a good one.

00;07;04;15 - 00;07;05;11

Sam

So far.

00;07;05;11 - 00;07;11;10

Roop

I'll say it's nothing too shocking, as most of the stuff that we kind of or suspected or knew, but like, it's a lot to go through.

00;07;11;10 - 00;07;14;22

Sam

So boy, I wonder who's in trouble at Google this morning.

00;07;14;22 - 00;07;32;03

Roop

Yes, I think it's an ex employee. He's uploaded this to get, at the end of March and sat there for over a month, before somebody took note of it. He's a real pretentious fellow, too. I was reading the interview with him, right before he came on, and he had to had, like two conditions for the interview.

00;07;32;06 - 00;07;38;28

Roop

He did not want to be anonymous. He wanted his name after a while, and he had this dumb quote that was so pretentious, I don't even want to read it.

00;07;39;02 - 00;07;40;09

Sam

Oh my goodness.

00;07;40;12 - 00;07;46;03

Roop

Demanded to be part of the, article. That's not gonna look good in Alex. There's nothing to do.

00;07;46;05 - 00;08;10;19

Sam

And here's the leaked algorithm. Yeah. Come on dude. Geez. Okay, so, more to come there. our main topic today, topic number one and a half, is what is new with ChatGPT for, for. Oh, I think for. Oh, here's the thing. Everyone knows this, and we've talked about it a lot over the last year. GPT makes all sorts of different updates.

00;08;10;19 - 00;08;24;14

Sam

I see. I read articles every day on it. it's important as your partner in all things marketing and just, hey, how are we staying ahead of all things? I, we're going to just talk through some latest and greatest kind of, feature releases, release features.

00;08;24;16 - 00;08;28;11

Roop

I think feature feature release features.

00;08;28;13 - 00;08;42;25

Sam

in my head. yeah. Updated features. We're gonna talk you through some of those today. just the implications, etc.. Ruby is going to lead this, and then we'll just kind of close with some thoughts of, hey, this summer and maybe some of your downtime, how do you tap into, some resources? So please.

00;08;42;28 - 00;09;02;19

Roop

This happened about a month ago, so we're kind of late to the party here. We had other stuff, people out, and we want to see how it's going to shake out. overall, it is out there. Now, if you have a free, ChatGPT account, you have access to that. So they gave this massive, pretty cool update, to paid users and free users.

00;09;02;22 - 00;09;22;01

Roop

And usually on the free side, they kind of throttle you down to like, yeah, but they gave this to the free folks, too. so there's some kind of if you use ChatGPT at all, even if you just use it to like check your grammar spelling or just research an article or do your homework if you're in school or things like that.

00;09;22;03 - 00;09;25;01

Roop

you get the idea. You type stuff in and you ask me a question.

00;09;25;04 - 00;09;27;16

Sam

Boom. So very quickly.

00;09;27;18 - 00;09;33;04

Roop

Check that result because it's not always, not always accurate. Sometimes ChatGPT makes some things up.

00;09;33;04 - 00;09;39;20

Roop

It can make some crazy stuff. so, anyhow, the, the new updates here that I'll go straight to the biggest one.

00;09;39;25 - 00;09;40;18

Sam

Yeah.

00;09;40;20 - 00;09;57;25

Roop

they showed this as a demo, and it's kind of wild. You can actually use your camera now to show it like a live environment around you, and it can react to that. And in the demo, it had a guy who had his smartphone and, he was asking, tell me what I'm showing you. And he was.

00;09;57;27 - 00;09;59;29

Sam

So it'd be like, if we're in the studio right now. Yeah.

00;10;00;01 - 00;10;17;08

Roop

It's kind of showing around here. It's at, I'm in a well lit room with a plant in the corner, and there's a guy with a red shirt on, and I can describe the room. Then they took two of these, to, different phones, and they had. You can also listen so it in here. So it has voice commands now, which doesn't seem too revolutionary, right.

00;10;17;11 - 00;10;33;23

Roop

Yeah. Yeah. That but they don't do this. They talk to each other. So they had one of the phones, ask a question to the other phone, and it would answer back and forth. And they were talking. And one of the things and one of the phones had the camera on so once. And what do you say to the other bot?

00;10;33;25 - 00;10;51;00

Roop

And the bot said, I see a room with a flower, and a guy in a red shirt is a great kind of red shirt. And kind of quickly everyone's mind goes to, well, Terminators here. This is. Yeah is live. but like, it's learning not just the stuff we're inputting, but from the stuff it sees and stuff can ask itself now, which is.

00;10;51;06 - 00;10;53;13

Sam

That's insane. Yeah, yeah.

00;10;53;16 - 00;11;12;06

Roop

so the big lead off I was, the bullet points down here, though, the big one was they had mode, they call it multi module capabilities. That's the ability to process both text images, in responses to visual content as well as text queries. It can generate content or understand command voice text. And so just based on what I just described.

00;11;12;06 - 00;11;30;15

Roop

Right. you can also take that take things and kind of summarize up into like a chart. So one of the things I saw was pretty neat that you could throw a bunch of data at it, and say, hey, make me organize this in a way I can understand. It summarizes in a pie chart does that, which was super dope.

00;11;30;17 - 00;11;47;02

Roop

So like its ability to see things, get things and put it into it and kind of can't get a result based on one of the things you want from that is getting faster, having more input capabilities, more access to external sort resources. it's pretty big.

00;11;47;05 - 00;11;49;05

Sam

It's getting smarter. I mean, it really is.

00;11;49;07 - 00;12;10;24

Roop

And it was already pretty smart. this is the big one if you're a developer and, like, you've probably seen every one of the apps that you like or websites you visit, it has some AI capabilities now, which I always thought was kind of fun. Funny, really. but that's just going to get even crazier. mean, open this GPT for up to developers, through an API.

00;12;10;27 - 00;12;12;12

Roop

API allows, different.

00;12;12;12 - 00;12;14;21

Sam

Services to talk to it.

00;12;14;24 - 00;12;30;21

Roop

or chat to its, own code things, but, making it easier for developers to develop their own applications and uses for it, using it as the brain. and yeah, they brought the price on half the price and twice as fast as GPT for turbo.

00;12;30;24 - 00;12;31;15

Sam

Unbelievable.

00;12;31;16 - 00;12;34;11

Roop

So usually things get more expensive, getting cheaper and faster.

00;12;34;18 - 00;12;49;24

Sam

And we talked about, discussing this a month ago into reverse point. Right. So much changes. Who knows we're going to be talking about, you know, in July topics to our lid turns. Do you all use any sort of AI for school or life or. Okay, nice. And we got that. Okay, cool. So we got head nods,

00;12;50;00 - 00;12;50;18

Roop

Writing homework.

00;12;50;18 - 00;13;09;08

Sam

Papers. Here's the never never. there are there are platforms for that now. here's the thing. One one thing that we really focus on as an agency, and something that we're going to talk about here shortly in June and July is for those that are listening in the world of marketing, right? Is this isn't replacing us.

00;13;09;08 - 00;13;24;02

Sam

We've talked about this in past podcasts. It's an efficiency tool. Right. How are you using it to the best of your ability in a smart way? We always check it, right. We're always like, we're using so many different AI tools here. the big thing is, is what can you be doing in the sense of, we call it AI first mentality, right?

00;13;24;04 - 00;13;43;24

Sam

One thing a day, five things a day. What can you be doing to try to make your day more efficient? the biggest thing that we found, and, like, just looking at this multimodal capability that you just described is wild, right? Like, that's that is a new shiny feature. we'd ask that you all in the sense of better understanding AI prompting, right?

00;13;44;01 - 00;14;06;04

Sam

Yeah, we've had lots of conversations that one one of the big things here is, extended context handling, understanding, vast and deep, deep amount of information. And so and for our listeners here, like, as you use it in your daily role, etc., a simple prompt of do xyzzy, right. That's very simple. Some prompts that I've seen are 3000 words.

00;14;06;06 - 00;14;20;17

Roop

Yeah, actually Chris kind of brought this to my attention. Yeah. Limit on the prompting. was a problem for him. And some of the things he was just like, oh my God, I'm prompting you, right? And he said for him, that was probably the biggest update on 401 at the end.

00;14;20;19 - 00;14;38;08

Sam

And Chris, Chris is straight up told us he'll spend an hour on a prompt. He will spend an hour, which is a lot of time because again, most people think, oh, I could just shoot this and it shoots this out. And no, the more, I mean, you bring up, customizable tone and style. That's huge. Especially in our business, especially across all things marketing.

00;14;38;08 - 00;14;48;15

Sam

And it's one of the most important things in the sense of resonating with target audiences. So spending that time with it, understanding this is great. These are great features. It's just going to continue to get smarter and better.

00;14;48;17 - 00;15;07;26

Roop

Yeah. And if you haven't been playing with it up to this point, you might feel lost in some ways. You're like, oh, I was. So I'm overwhelmed so much. I think Chris and I talk a lot about and we, we try to meet every Friday and have literally dedicated our time just to talk about AI, opportunities, implementations for clients, for ourselves.

00;15;07;28 - 00;15;20;11

Roop

and then how we're going to build those who needs to be involved. Yeah, it's a big deal. So, like, if you feel like you're lost on this, it's okay. It's fine. Most of us feel kind of lost on it. Even Chris tells me something like, I use it differently.

00;15;20;13 - 00;15;21;07

Sam

Of course.

00;15;21;09 - 00;15;39;13

Roop

If you can get a couple people together and just meet once a week and say, hey, here's a problem we have at the office for a thing that we could, maybe make better. Or, you know, Ruth, over here in accounting is always doing the stuff by hand. And she's she's keeps all these documents. Is there a way we can use that stuff in a way that's smarter for us as a, as a business?

00;15;39;15 - 00;15;52;15

Roop

or in our case, as an agency? How can we use this data in a way that, speeds things up, makes it cleaner, whatever the case. And that's kind of the approach we're taking. We come up with our problems first and then say, is there an AI solution to this?

00;15;52;17 - 00;15;54;04

Sam

Yes, it's a great way to put it.

00;15;54;07 - 00;15;55;29

Roop

Do we implement that AI solutions?

00;15;56;00 - 00;15;56;26

Sam

Perfect.

00;15;56;28 - 00;15;58;04

Roop

And you just not going to break it down?

00;15;58;09 - 00;16;11;09

Sam

It does. It takes time. I mean, Rupert, I were talking last week, I was scrolling through Instagram and an agency that I follow, right under their handle. It said this post made with AI, and I was like, oh, that's new, right? It's really interesting to the two of us.

00;16;11;11 - 00;16;27;12

Roop

And that's the whole thing right now. meta. And I believe TikTok, and YouTube are all about this are in the process of rolling out AI labels. Yep. They're I, some of them ask you, you upload is this AI and you can say no, but they still can.

00;16;27;14 - 00;16;28;03

Sam

Yeah.
