Speaker 1

Welcome to Music to our Ears, where we share some interesting tidbits and stories related to our favorite lingal Kids songs. Hello Lingo Kids listeners. I've just traveled back in time millions and millions of years ago. I'm now standing in the land of the dinosaurs.

Speaker 2

Over seven hundred types of dinosaurs of.

Speaker 1

All sizes used to walk the earth or fly in the skies.

Speaker 2

Not all of the species lived at the same time, though. During the one hundred and sixty five million years that dinosaurs ruled the earth, some disappeared, or, as we often say when talking about species, went extinct and others took their place. Did you know that dino comes from a Greek word dinos, which means terrible sorrows in Greek means lizard.

Speaker 1

But they were not all terrible lizards. Here comes one of the friendlier dinos, the stegosaurus, big lizard like creature with thick, short legs, is an herbivore.

Speaker 2

It only eats plants.

Speaker 1

So even though it's as big as a buss, it's pretty gentle. Stegos, as I like to call them, disappeared about one hundred and sixty million years ago. Their fossils or in other words. Bones discovered in the ground have been found in the United States and in Portugal. There is one dinosaur that has a terrible reputation. We have to travel about seventy million years ago to meet one of them.

Speaker 2

Let's go sh I'm hiding under a big leaf. I don't want this bully to spot me.

Speaker 1

This dinosaur has a huge head and razor sharp teeth.

Speaker 2

It runs on its hind legs, and it's a carnivore. It eats meat. Can you guess what it is? That's it, the Dyrannosaurus rex. We better get out of here. Let's go home. Whew, that's better. A Tyrannosaurus rex, or t rex for short, roamed North America and weighed over seven tons.

Speaker 1

Of course, one of its most famous features is its two tiny arms. But don't be mistaken. Those mini arms had powerful claws and were deadly weapons. The largest t rex fossil ever found was named Sue Cool.

Speaker 2

Fact humans have more bones than a t rex. We have two hundred and six bones and it only has two hundred. Would you want to have a pet dinosaur? Maybe a small one. Although dinosaurs are no longer around, Lizards, turtles, and snakes come from the dinosaur family, so you could actually have a dino friend. Yes, music es Well, then let's sing a song about Cawie and her t Rex. Ready, here we go.
