Welcome to Music to our Ears, where we share some interesting tidbits and stories related to our favorite Lingo Kids songs. Today, we're visiting a very special place. It's not a zoo. It's an elephant sanctuary, a place where elephants that have worked for humans can go to live peacefully and receive proper care. The sanctuary cares for all types of elephants. The largest species in Africa is the African savannah elephant. It has very wrinkly skin, curved tusks, two fingerlike tips

on its trunk, and large, triangular shaped ears. The second type is the African forest elephant. It's much smaller that has rounded ears, smoother skin, and straighter tusks than the savannah elephant. Both species of African elephants can live up to seventy years in the wild. There are three types of Asian elephants that come from different areas of Asia. They all have two bumps on their foreheads and only one fingerl like tip on their trunk. These elephants can

live up to eighty years old in the wild. African elephant families are usually a bit larger than the Asian elephant. Do you know what an adult female elephant is called a cow. No, not that cow. The adult male elephant is called a bull. And guess what young elephants are called. That's right, calves. The Elephant Sanctuary takes good care of the elephants. They don't have to work. They can just

be elephants. Elephants are very social creatures. They form lifelong friendships with one another and even other animals such as dogs. We can sing about one elephant who has a very special friend. How does that sound?
