Day 7: God's Good Word

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

Psalm 119:105

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

2 Timothy 3:16-17

"The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward."

Psalm 19:7-11

Devotional

God's Word is an invaluable gift to us.

The LORD equips us and shapes us to resemble Jesus Christ through His Word. In its pages, God’s wisdom, truth, and guidance for our lives are revealed.

The Bible is not merely a human book. It is a cohesive story pointing to Jesus the Messiah. It serves as a powerful tool for transformation and equips us for every good work.

God’s Word is living and active. It's inspired and authored by the Holy Spirit through specific men of God to a world in need of salvation.

We get to ruminate over its richness and learn from our Maker. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can respond to it in faith, proclaim its truth, and share it with others.

In the Scriptures we can find the meaning for our lives and gain insight into God’s will and plan.

As we engage with the living Word, we engage with God Himself.

Men of God

In a world full of people seeking purpose and endless distractions vying for our attention, God's Word stands as a faithful and reliable guide.

The Scriptures are not just words on a page; they testify of the nature of our loving Creator. They carry God's wisdom, power, and truth to equip us for all God has called us to be and to do as men of God.

By embracing God's Word, we come to better know the LORD as He truly is, not a god we’ve made in our image.

We get to know His character and witness His unchanging attributes on display.

We learn to trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness, and to live by His life-giving truth by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We discover a pathway to spiritual growth, transformation, and lasting fulfillment in God.

Application

We make time for our priorities, so set reminders to seek the Lord first. Make the time and space to enjoy God's Word today. Approach the Bible with a heart of humility, seeking to understand God for who He is, not just what He gives. As you do, you allow God to shape your thought-life.

Recognize the privilege it is to engage with your Creator as you read or listen to the Bible. Note that there are different literary styles throughout the Bible. Much of Scripture is written in narrative form, so read these stories in context. Simply start with a verse or passage. As you encounter God's truths, pray and allow the Holy Spirit to help you respond to His Word in faith.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Your Word as a lamp to guide our feet and a light for our path.

Open my eyes to appreciate the power and relevance of Scripture in my life. Help me to treasure it.

Guide me to seek You first, Lord. Open my heart to receive Your truth. May Your Word revive my soul.

Shape my perspective that I may see You rightly and represent You faithfully, gracious God.

Thank You for Your Holy Spirit counseling me to believe, apply, and share Your truth in love with those You place around me.

Help me to make decisions based on the life-giving truth Your Word reveals, that I may walk in alignment with Your will, equipped for every good work that You lead me to do.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
