Day 4: The Offer of God's Wisdom
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.”
James 1:5-7
"For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints."
Proverbs 2:6-8
"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!"
Romans 11:33
Devotional
The LORD is the ultimate Source and Giver of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
God knows we need these virtues and designed us to seek them from Him.
In His kindness, God promises to generously grant wisdom to those who seek it from Him in faith, with sincerity and without doubt.
To the one who asks of Him but doubts, the LORD is clear: the double-minded man shouldn’t expect to receive anything. Nothing is hidden from the Lord God, including the motives of our hearts.
Though we have all doubted before, God's invaluable offer remains today.
He invites us to acknowledge our lack of wisdom and to seek it from Him, knowing with full confidence that He will provide it.
Men of God
As men, we often face complex decisions and challenges that a Google search cannot solve, with varying sources of information all claiming to be the solution we need.
It’s often evident that we lack the knowledge and understanding we need. Thankfully, God’s wisdom is available to us today.
So, as sons who have trusted in the Lord Jesus, we have an immeasurable privilege that all who don’t know God lack. We not only have access to the Lord Most High Himself, but also to the wisdom He is so willing to give to His children who ask for it in faith.
The depth of the knowledge and wisdom of God reminds our souls of His trustworthy guidance and sovereignty.
Our all-knowing God proved His love by giving up His Son for us. How much more can we trust that He will grant us the wisdom we need to represent Christ Jesus in all that we say and do.
Application
Today, we can confidently lay down our uncertainties before the One who proved His love for us on the cross. We can confess our doubts and trust in His forgiveness. Remember, Jesus spoke of faith the size of a mustard seed moving mountains. If a millimeter’s worth of faith is all you have at the moment, you can use it to ask God for wisdom without doubting.
So, ask! If you are unsure of what to ask according to God’s will, ask according to His Word. Ask for the wisdom you need today to walk with integrity as a man of God, trusting He is with you, faithful to guide and guard you. We can trust wholeheartedly that our Father will grant us the insight we need to make Christlike decisions.
Prayer
All-Knowing Father,
You are wiser than all others. Only You are the Source of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, Creator of the universe.
I praise You for the gift of wisdom available in Your Word. It is a lamp to guide my feet and a light to my path through every season of life.
Thank You for Your Spirit, the Author of Your Word and my constant Counselor. Your generosity is as unequaled as Your wisdom, faithful Father.
Forgive me for acting in pride and making decisions without turning to You. I acknowledge that I lack wisdom and need it from You, LORD.
In response to Your invitation, I ask in faith: Grant me the wisdom I need for today. Your wisdom is trustworthy and Your timing is perfect.
By the power of Your Spirit, help me to align my perspective according to Your Truth and to walk with integrity as an ambassador of Christ.
In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
