Day 18: Overflowing with Praise

"I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High."

Psalm 9:1-2

"I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving."

Psalm 69:30

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God…Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire."

Hebrews 12:1-2, 28-29

Devotional

In these verses it is clear, the LORD our God is worthy of our wholehearted praise and thanksgiving.

Though he endured years of life-threatening persecution, King David rejoiced in the LORD. He unashamedly sang praises, testified of God’s wonderful deeds, and proclaimed his joy in the LORD.

Gratitude abounds as we recount our God’s goodness in our lives and throughout history. Joy arises as we praise the Lord Most High.

With God’s Spirit abiding in us, we can live lives filled with gratitude and worship the LORD with the reverence and awe He deserves.

In response to God’s perfect love, presence, and rock-solid promises, we are to run the race of faith He’s set before us—keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the Prize.

Men of God

If we are to overflow with praise like King David, then we must remember who our God is and what He has done for us.

Our Lord does not desire half-hearted men or half-hearted worship.

Though David sinned and fell short of God’s glory like any other man, He knew the LORD his God and lived a life full of praise.

God called David “a man after my heart, who will do all my will” (Acts 13:22).

As David offered wholehearted praise and gratitude to God in his words, songs, and actions, we too are invited to be worshipful men after our Father’s heart.

With the help of the Holy Spirit constantly redirecting our gaze to our Good Shepherd, we are equipped to press on with Christ.

We can live praise-filled lives before the LORD with reverence and awe.

Application

Look to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Consider what Jesus endured for you. Take a few moments to meditate on the wonderful things the LORD has done in your life and choose to celebrate your Lord today.

Rejoice in the LORD as you intentionally seek Him for who He is, not just what He gives. Our God is a consuming fire, so lift up songs of praise to God with reverence and awe. Make Him known to others without shame. Remember, His perfect love casts out fear. Share what He has done for you. Let your actions and words reflect your gratitude for our Savior and King.

Prayer

Gracious Father,

You are exceedingly good and have done great things. You rule and reign forever.

Thank You for sending Your Son who endured the cross for the joy set before Him.

Thank You for paying the ultimate price to take the penalty for our sins upon Yourself, Lord Jesus. You made a way for us to know You personally, gracious God.

I rejoice in You and praise Your holy name, LORD. You alone are worthy of all praise.

May my life be filled with wholehearted worship, thanksgiving, and praise as You empower me by Your Spirit to run the race You have set before me.

May my life be a reflection of Your steadfast love and unshakable Kingdom today. You are worthy to be praised.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
