Day 17: A Thankful Heart in Prayer

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:5-7

"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving."

Colossians 4:2

"If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me."

Psalm 66:18-20

Devotional

In these Scriptures we are invited to draw near to God in prayer with a thankful heart and reminded of why we have reason to give Him thanks.

We have been given the privilege to freely communicate with the living God, the King of kings, our Creator.

We get to know His Word, listen to His voice, and respond as His Spirit empowers us.

Prayer is a gift.

By praying with thanksgiving, we can cast our anxieties on the Lord and in return, experience His peace that surpasses understanding.

In His grace, the Lord listens to the prayers of those who approach Him with sincerity, humility, and gratitude.

Men of God

Lives packed with business, stress, and worry can easily distract us from cultivating a thankful heart in prayer.

However, these Scriptures remind us that we have an ever-available direct line of communication with God through prayer.

Our Lord revealed His willingness to give us peace and assurance of His steadfast love. We get to turn to Him with gratitude and humility.

His steadfast love is priceless and unmerited, not to be taken lightly but cherished.

Maintaining this thankful heart in prayer opens the door to God's promised peace that guards our hearts and minds in Christ.

Application

Today, take a minute to remember who you are talking to before you pray. Acknowledge the living God who spoke the world into existence and continues to speak. Before laying your concerns before God, give thanks in awe. Praise God for who He is. Praise Him for all He has done.

As you marvel in His presence, let the Holy Spirit examine your heart and highlight what needs to be surrendered. Seek the LORD’s forgiveness and freedom from anything that hinders your communication with Him. Embrace a lifestyle of gratitude-filled prayer. Stay watchful and expectant in faith, knowing that God hears and responds.

Prayer

Dear LORD,

You are the Lord Most High!

Thank You for the privilege it is to pray. Thank You for offering Your peace that surpasses understanding and guards our hearts and minds.

May I cultivate a thankful heart anchored in Your steadfast love, Father.

Help me to fully surrender any worries weighing me down. Guide me to rid my life of any distractions keeping me from continuing steadfastly in prayer.

Teach me to be watchful in prayer with thanksgiving.

Shape my desires to align with Your will. May my prayers be genuine and pleasing to You.

Thank You for Your life-giving plans and purposes for my life. Thank You for Your Spirit empowering me now to step forward in faith.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
