Day 10: Serving God by Serving Others

"For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Galatians 5:13-14

"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."

Devotional

From the beginning, God’s heart for service and love for others is evident.

Jesus, the King, came to serve.

The Lord Himself set the ultimate example of selfless service—He humbled Himself to the point of a gruesome death on the cross to save us from the penalty and power of sin.

As followers of Christ, we are called and freed to follow Christ’s example, to serve others in love.

As stewards of the Holy Spirit and the gifts God has given us, we are empowered to serve with the strength that God supplies, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.

Men of God

In our world today, we are often encouraged to compete, lead, and put ourselves first.

However, God's Word and Christ’s example reveals that we are to embrace humility. We are called to prioritize the needs of others in response to what He has done for us.

In fact, “We love because He first loved us” and are commanded by God to love our brothers and sisters in Christ (1 John 4:19, 21).

We get to exhibit our love for God by serving others, knowing our Father doesn’t overlook the work and the love we show Him by serving His saints (Heb. 6:10).

When we serve with a heart of gratitude, we reflect the character of Christ and demonstrate His love to the world.

Application

Today, take a moment to consider the Lord’s love and sacrifice as an act of selfless service. Note how Christ has blessed you and called you to be a good steward of the gifts He has given to you. Consider the Lord’s invitation to use the freedom He secured for you to love and serve others.

Respond in faith. Pray for opportunities to use the gifts and time God has given you to serve others without expecting anything in return. Seek out ways to practically bless your family, friends, coworkers, and community with genuine love and humility. Let your actions be driven by gratitude for the privilege of serving the One who gave it all for us.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the gift of salvation and the opportunity to serve You by serving other souls.

Search me and purify my heart, gracious God.

Help me to set aside selfish ambitions and pride that I may cultivate a heart of gratitude. Teach me to freely give as You freely gave, Lord.

Help me to count others as more significant than myself and to take action in love.

Show me how to use the gifts and time You have given me for the benefit of others. May I reflect Your love and humility.

May my life be a testimony of Your grace and goodness.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
