Hello , my friends , welcome back to another Friday Solo episode of Life Beyond the Briefs , the number one podcast for lawyers choosing to live lives of their own design and not suffer life by default . And the year is barreling to a close . As I'm recording this , there's 47 days left in 2024 .
By the time this episode reaches you , there will be less than 46 to go . That's a month and a half to accomplish all of the things that you set out to do when you woke up on January 1st , or , if you woke up hungover on January 1st , when you got to thinking about it on January 2nd .
And my question to you is has your life in 2024 been the way and have you achieved all of the things that you thought you were going to ? And if it hasn't , what are you going to do differently in 2025 than you did this year to make sure that you don't repeat 2024's mistakes ?
Now , if you're listening to this and you're like dude , I accomplished every single goal that I set for myself in 2024 .
And , in fact , I've had a better year than I thought I would better year than anyone dreamed possible then good for you , but I think that's not most people , which is why I'm recording this episode and I want to extend an invitation to you .

It's going to be a 60-minute training on the things that I think lawyers get wrong about annual planning . And there's really three things right . Number one we chase other people's goals . We look around and we let society and we let other lawyers define for us what success is , rather than defining success for ourselves .
Number two because of that , we end up chasing meaningless revenue goals . We end up chasing I want to be a seven-figure law firm , I want to be an eight-figure law firm . You could be a seven-figure law firm that spends $800,000 a year on Google ads and it wouldn't move the needle for you and you could still lose money .
So throw your revenue goals out the window . And number three rather than reassigning like a profit goal , I want to change your mindset from chasing results-based goals to chasing activity based goals . So , rather than saying I want to have a seven figure law firm , I want to take home $500,000 personal income .
We want to set goals around the activities that will lead you to those things , and so on Monday , I'm going to walk you through exactly the framework that I use to plan my year from stepping way back and deciding what is it that I actually want out of my life and , at a broad level , like at a really high level what do you want people to say about you
when you're dead ? Like , the dark way of doing this is write your own eulogy and then live a life that leads up to this eulogy . The way that I like to think about it is that you are a lawyer and you have a practice area .
Yes , and in 2025 , you will become successful , because that will be the year that your firm does something or your career does something , and everybody's going to have a little bit different something . I will represent and advocate on behalf of indigent people . I will recover a certain number of dollars from an insurance company . I will try my first lawsuit .
I will become a partner . Everybody has that achievement space and that's important . But the next sentence is more important , which is because if I accomplish that in 2025 , then in my life I can blank , and everybody's blank is going to be completely and totally different , and that really is the goal .
It's not the achievement piece , it's the thing that that achievement will unlock for your life , and that's how we transform a meaningless revenue goal or a meaningless I want to make partner goal or a meaningless .
I want to hire my first associate goal to a meaningful goal of what will it allow you to do in the rest of your life if you achieve and unlock that thing .
The second thing that we're going to do is we're going to take all of the little areas of your life and define , probably for the first time ever for you , what does it mean for you to be achieving a 10 out of 10 in each of those areas , in all of the various areas of your life fitness , relationships , yes , your law firm and your legal career , finances ,
travel Define what a 10 out of 10 be . What would it mean for you to look at your health and say that is a 10 out of 10 , and I am firing on all sellers ? What would it be for you to look at what I call dollar productive activities , the things that you do at work day in and day out , that actually make you money .
What would be a 10 out of 10 ? How many hours would you be working ? What kind of things would you be working on ? What would your effective hourly rate be ? Let's define those with great granularity and let's put in place an action plan to move you towards a 10 out of 10 .
And on this training , I'm going to walk you through the exact framework and show you some examples from my life . Finally , we're going to bring it back and bring it all together .
What are the really big bucket list items that you want to accomplish in your life , and how many of those can we compress into 2025 so that we can make more space for bigger and better things down the road ? And what's the one goal that you have for next year that scares the shit out of you ?
And if you don't have that one goal , how can we get you around ? People that will reset your thermometer , help you think bigger and help you find that one goal .
