Episode description

Facing the whirlwind of a record-breaking month, I confront the mental and emotional hurdles of balancing success and sanity. From battling food poisoning at the Great Legal Marketing Summit in Arizona to witnessing a phenomenal boost in our law firm's performance, October was nothing short of a rollercoaster. If you've ever struggled to maintain originality and consistency in content creation, you'll resonate with my journey. It's a challenge that constantly tests patience and creativity, especially during the bustling times when every second seems to count.

Amidst this chaos, I invite you to join a transformative November Gratitude Challenge designed to shift your perspective and promote personal growth. Handwrite a thank you note each day to someone who has touched your life, and watch how this simple act trains your mind to find and cherish the little joys. Together, we'll explore how recognizing these moments can not only uplift others but also enrich our own lives, making gratitude a beacon in the storm of our busy days. Tune in as we navigate the highs and lows, and discover how fostering gratitude can be the key to a more positive outlook.

Hello , my friends , and welcome back to another solo episode of Life Beyond the Briefs man . It has been a minute since I've recorded one of these solo episodes . I was just looking back . I haven't actually put one out in October , and so there's a couple of reasons for that . Number one .

You know , just trying to figure out what the best use of my time is , I find myself busier than ever now , and if you've tried to create content on a consistent basis , which is what this is , it's challenging to put out something every single week that's original , or at least original like in your mind , right , and I appreciate that not everybody listens to

every episode , and I appreciate that if I say something three times over the course of six months , you know , maybe that's what it takes to sink in . But as the producing party , it's like you think about man , I've already said this .

This is not worth saying again , or people are getting bored if I say it again , and so that's just kind of in the back of my mind as I sit down every single time to write one of these outlines for what we're going to say on a Friday afternoon show , and then at the same time , like October man , we were busier than we have ever been .

We had our Great Legal Marketing Summit out in Arizona the first week of October . Many people don't know this , but I got food poisoning pretty badly the night before the summit started and so it was not my favorite summit experience , although I think we put on a good show and I think people had a great time .

And , by the way , we talked ourselves out of canceling the summit for 2025 , which is always in the back of our mind , because that's a heavy , heavy lift . So there will be a Great Legal Marketing Summit in 2025 . It will be in October .

It will be in the DC metro area this time because , frankly , just flying across the country and being away from family for seven days , that makes the lift even more challenging than it already is . And then in the law firm , we're having a great , great year .

It's our best ever year in the long-term disability department , probably by 25% , and in the personal injury department we are at least 50 percent year over year in signed cases in really what we thought was going to be kind of a flat year . So all of this stuff is going amazing .

And I say that not to brag , but to say this next thing , which is like mentally and emotionally .

This has been a really , really challenging couple of months for me , and so what I want to invite you to do because you may find yourself in the exact same place is participate in a November Gratitude Challenge which I put out to our Great Legal Marketing tribe members , and tribe members have some accountability built in around that on some internal channels , and

you won't . If you're not in the tribe , you won't have this accountability accountability but you can still do the exercise , which is for the 30 days of november . I want you to write handwrite one thank you note to one person who's had an impact on your life , or just on your day .

Um , again , when you're thinking about how do you create content on a daily basis like you can write I don't know five , seven , ten , you had an impact on my life notes , and then you kind of start running out of things to . But if you look for little impacts just on your day or your week in the middle , two things happen .

Number one , you're going to make somebody else's day . Number two , your brain is going to start looking for things to complement , because the way that the reticular activating system in your brain works is the more you tell it to look for things , the more it's going to notice things .

It's like if you ever bought a car and then you realize that everybody on the road is driving that same car . So my kids look for Teslas and it seems like they shout out Tesla all the time . Right ? If you've driven a Jeep Wrangler , you know exactly what I'm talking about . It seems like everybody's driving a Jeep Wrangler .

But it works the same way in a 30-day gratitude challenge , when your mind is looking for things to be grateful for , what happens is you see more things to be grateful for , and so I'm going through that right now where I want to find more things , little things , to just number one , appreciate .

Number two express gratitude for it's the month of Thanksgiving , so that's coming up at the end of the month , but moving the holidays forward and just getting everybody into a great emotional and mental state .

I think one way to do that is just every day for 30 days , write a note to somebody , send the note , hand the note , whatever , do it , get it out of your mind onto the paper , into their hands , and you know what that's going to be it for today's episode .

It's already 1045 in the morning on a Friday when I'm recording this , which is at least a day later than I usually record the Friday episodes . My family and I are getting on a plane this afternoon to go down to Universal Orlando because my kids have four days off of school .

We're going to go do some theme parks for a while , and what I try to leave you with in these episodes is something high level that you can think about , but also something highly actionable and tactical , and I think this episode is one of these .

It's gonna be like some people will blow it off and not do anything , and that's fine if you're not in that mental space . But if you want something highly , highly actionable , it doesn't cost a thing . That will have a significant return on investment in your life but , more importantly , return on joy .

You will be happier if you do this 30-day exercise , I promise you or your money back , and this is free . So that's going to be it for today's episode . Let's spend the next 30 days writing notes to people expressing our gratitude for the impact that they've had on our life or simply on your day . Thank you for listening . I am grateful for you .

I'll see you guys next week .
