On May 19, workers at the meat processing plant, Quality Sausage Co. in Dallas, Texas gathered to protest the company’s mismanagement of a COVID-19 outbreak. The company did not follow CDC safety standards, resulting in three deaths and 63 infections. This company is one of many in Dallas and across the state of Texas that exemplifies the unsafe conditions food industry workers face nationwide. Quality Sausage closed for two weeks on April 24 following the death of Mathias Martinez. The next day...
Across the country protests against racist police violence have only grown stronger in the face of brutal efforts to crush the uprising. A clear turning point was seen in Washington, D.C. as as protesters’ determination escalated sharply after June 1 when Donald Trump decided to violently remove peaceful demonstrators so he could pose with a Bible in front of St. John’s Church near the White House. Trump’s decision to make a public show of strength appeared to be in response to humiliating accou...

Capitalist politicians here often promote the reactionary and dangerous idea of “American exceptionalism,” by which they mean that the United States is superior to all other countries. In May 2014, President Obama told graduating West Point army cadets, “I believe in American exceptionalism with every fiber of my being.” One area in which the U.S. is unquestionably exceptional is the level of state violence directed against African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and working and poor people...

The first class in the series is devoted to tracing the decline of the ancient imperial order in China under the combined attacks of Western imperialism and domestic rebellion in the course of the 19th and early 20th centuries. China was the most prosperous and sophisticated state in the world through the end of the 18th century, but the Industrial Revolution gave Britain and, later, other Western powers, both new economic power and new military capacities. Britain sold massive amounts of opium ...

May 15 marks the 73rd anniversary of what is billed in the U.S. and Israeli mainstream media as Israel’s “independence,” and what the Palestinian and Arab peoples as a whole know as al-Nakba—the Catastrophe. To make way for the creation of the Israeli settler state, more than 80 percent of the Palestinian population was driven out of their homeland by means of terror. Washington played an irreplaceable role in the formation of Israel. The U.S. government continues to provide billions of dollars ...
“I can’t breathe.” The current nationwide uprising against racism is taking place in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Health care workers on the frontlines of the struggle against the virus are acutely aware of the connections between systemic racism and the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on Black, Indigenous and Latino people. On a visceral level, doctors and nurses hear the words “I can’t breathe” from their COVID-19 patients–the exact same words repeated by Floyd George as he wa...

Today Breonna Taylor would have been 27-years-old. But on March 13, Louisville police murdered Breonna in her own home while she was asleep. An EMT with plans of becoming a nurse, Breonna put her life on the line as a first responder amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Two months after her murder, none of the racist killer cops responsible have been arrested. Like George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor’s name has been repeated throughout growing rebellions against police brutality and racism t...
Class 3 of a 3-part series. There are times when solidarity appears more important than ever. When things are tough, we need comrades who will have our backs. This three-part course examines political solidarity by focusing on comradeship as the relation between those on the same side of a political struggle. Taught by political theorist and organizer Jodi Dean, this course draws on ideas developed in her recent book, Comrade: An essay on political belonging, and discusses what it means to be a ...
Trump declared last night from the White House that he would “end the riots” with a national military mobilization to “dominate the streets” and that “if a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary,” he would “deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.” Trump has declared war on this new people’s movement. It is couched in the language of stopping “far-left extremists” and “rioters” — who Attorney General Barr promises will be charged as “domesti...
The enhanced U.S. military presence in Caribbean waters did not deter Iran as the “Fortune,” the first of its five giant tankers full of gasoline and refinery supplies reached Venezuela’s waters late Saturday, May 23. The ships’ arrival is a major victory for both Iran and Venezuela. Iran’s generous act of solidarity extends a vital lifeline to the Bolivarian Revolution even as the Trump administration is stepping up its regime change campaign. Liberation News is republishing the following article originally posted in 2014 to answer the lies spread by the U.S. government and its loyal corporate media outlets about China on the anniversary of the 1989 events in Tiananmen Square. -- Twenty-five years ago today, every U.S. media outlet, along with then President Bush and the U.S. Congress were whipping up a full scale frenzied hysteria and attack against the Chinese government for what was described as the cold-blooded massacre of many th...

Police rushed into Breonna Taylor's home and murdered her on March 13th, acting just like their slave patrol predecessors. Their callous disregard for Black lives ended in Taylor's murder.
