Cube number 398 is ready for you. I'm Coach Shane. I want you in my community. School.com slash L-M-E. S-K-O-O-L dot com slash L M-E. Ooh, nice expression today. Do you still have these? Enjoy the podcast. Let's go back in time. Today we have a nice noun to learn.

A

The dump.

B

The dump. D U M P. Yeah, the dump. The dump is actually a plate. Uh in this dialogue I'm going to be teaching you a place. Now the places Where we put our garbage the trash where does our garbage go? Well, first of all it goes into the garbage can and eventually it goes to the dunk. And the dump is usually a place outside the city in the country. It might be a big hole in the ground, and they throw all the garbage in the hole. Sometimes it's not.

Underground, it's sometimes it's above ground, and then eventually they cover the dump with dirt. But this is the dump. The dump is the place where you throw your garment. This is a very useful expression. Let's say you have a cell phone, an old cell phone, but you dropped it on the ground and the screen cracked, so the glass is broken, but it still works. You don't need to take it to the dump. It doesn't belong in the dump. But then you have your cell phone and it falls bloop into the toilet.

C

Yeah. Um

B

You rescue your cell phone, it doesn't work. You try everything, it does w it's cheap, it's not expensive. Well, it looks like this cell phone has to go to the dump. This cell phone must be thrown away. It is garbage. It's another word for garbage. The dump. This cell phone must go to the dump. You know, I I understand that cell phones have valuable things inside. Is there a place to recycle a cell phone? Yeah.

Actually me, I have my old cell phone. I never threw it away. I'm still looking for a place. to recycle it. But anyway, it it does belong in the dump. The cell phone dump. Now this word dump actually has lots of possible meaning. Just take this word as the place for garbage. That's the basic meaning. Let's go ahead and check out a dialogue. Where you going? The dump? Huh? You got room for some magazines? No, you need to recycle those.

That's right. If you actually go to the dump Now there is a dump in the town where I live, and they have a place for regular garbage, but they do have a place for recycling, plastics and glass and paper. And and that's what the guy is talking about. Magazines don't go to the dump, they go to the recycling center. So the dump really is the forever trash dump. Uh-huh.

Alternative Meanings of "Dump"

So once again, dump does have many other meanings. This place is a dump, it's a very dirty place. The restaurant is a dump, it's a very dirty restaurant. His apartment is a dump, it's a very dirty apartment. That's the idea. To dump somebody, that means to break up with somebody. She dumped him, she broke up with him, I dumped her, I broke up with her. Yeah. And there's even more meanings of the word dumped. And I'll talk about those in the next few days.

Recap and Podcast Resources

But once again today, look around you. Is there something that needs to go to the dump? And make sure you understand some things go to the dump, but some things need to be recycled. And do you ever go to the dump yourself? Most people don't. The city garbage truck goes to the dump. But if you live in the country, you might actually go to the dump yourself. Check out the dialogue two more times and Where you going? The dump? You got room for some magazines? No, you need to recycle those.
