I've missed you. I feel like we haven't spoken for so long.
been so long.
It has. She's back. Yeah. And I'm sorry the episode was a little bit different last week, but I did my best and I was quite impressed. Thank you. Thank you.
good. Thank you for holding the fort while I was with my sickly Victorian child.

It does. And we like to know what you want us to talk about. And also we are very aware that we've got a couple of questions in the bank, um, at the moment. So if we haven't responded to your question yet, we will be getting to it.
will. We will.
We had to do a couple of pre-work calls and stuff, didn't we? Because I was on holiday and then Lily bear's been sick, but how is she
better now. Thanks. Yeah, she's
good?
she's all good now. It was not great, but she's, uh, she's back to an all self eating and
Yeah.
and being
was in hospital. Oh yeah. She's a noisy kid, isn't she? When you voice note me, she's saying me
She's
in the background. I love that.
her.
you was in hospital a long time. Really?
I might live there,
It was like four nights though, wasn't it? Or something?
like that.
Five night, three
night, I think it was three nights actually, but it was like four days.
And how does that work? Do you, are you like, do they give you a bed or something to sleep in?
when we went in, they basically, they put you on the ward. So we, we actually had, um, own room because she had.
Nice.
Uh, bronchiolitis. So she had to be like, not quarantined, but kind of. So we are in our own on the
Nice.
And then,
Yeah.
yeah, it's like a, literally like a chair that folds
Mm.
a single bed. So
okay.
to sleep on that. And
Nice. I bet you didn't get much sleep, did you?
those
Oh.
obviously.
Are they?
like 24 hours. It's
Yeah.
and
Uh, the lights and the noises. Oh,
bleeps all the time. And then I'm like,
no, no. I couldn't cope. I couldn't cope.
not the best. But
Um,
It keeps us going.
and poor Richard's still had to go to work.
went to work. Unfortunately I couldn't go to work, so I am meant to be freelancing. I was meant to
Hmm.
that week, but I had to, I couldn't, obviously Lily was in
Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course.
self-employed, we were just
I know.
about, you
Yeah.
what, you
It's difficult.
Obviously
also at the same time, like I know it's rubbish having to cancel your freelance work, but it would've been worse if it was your own work.
like if this happened and I had
Yeah.
wedding, I mean you'd,
You'd have to be getting other people in to do it for you, wouldn't you?
but
Yeah. That would, and you'd be, you'd be thinking about it while you was in the hospital, even if someone else is doing it. You'd be like, what are you doing?
This is the thing though. Kids are so unpredictable and I think that's why, like for me, like I've changed kind of the way I work like this just while she's
Yeah. Yeah,
now than taking on too many
yeah,
big
yeah. It makes sense.
in case that
Mm-hmm.
like.
Exactly.
Because I do when I am busy and as you know, like because you're the same, you know what I mean? You just, your whole life and soul goes into your
Yeah.
There's not much left for
Nope. Anybody else? That's all you think about, isn't it? Literally.
of like juggling that. But it's all good. She's much better. Thank you for asking and thanks for that episode. Was good. Loved it.
Yay. Good.
she doesn't need me.
I do. Because it took me bloody ages to go back through old episodes and be like, right, okay. What's gonna be relevant to people right now? Because we try and make the episodes relevant, don't we? And like, you know, well, if it's coming up to the summer, people are gonna be having wedding soon and Yeah. Yeah. There you go. There you go.
about me and my Paul put, um,
Hmm. Puddy.
your holiday?
it's amazing. Thank you. It was really, really nice. Um, oh yeah, it was. It's such a beautiful place. And actually we, uh, I've actually had quite a few people ask me about it because a mouthy coast, so we went to the mouthy coast in Capri and they, it seems to be quite a popular honeymoon. Destination. Um, a lot of Americans go there. So I think it's quite, yeah. It's also quite popular with, um, American Honeymooners, especially if they get married in the UK or Europe.
And then it's easy for them to fly to, isn't it? So I think it's just such a beautiful and like romantic place, I suppose. But the weather was amazing. Food's amazing. Um, but it's quite,
Italy is it? Is it
so it's like. It's like on the same level as Rome, I would say, but it's. West, like it's more to the way, it's got literally got a little bit that juts out the country basically. And it's there all on its own. It's just below like, um, Naples. So you fly into Naples, um, and it's fly.
Uh, uh, you, it's right near Mount Vesuvius, like you could do Mount Vesuvius from there, but it's literally like the whole, so the, the, the big thing is about it is it's just got one road, so it's why it's called. Coast, you say like drive the Melfi coast. It's one road along the coast that follows the coastline. It's nuts. It's like the Squigglies road ever, with loads of turns. It's really narrow.
a car while you were there?
we did. Yeah,
you know when you're see in films and they're like on the cliff edge
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You literally, yeah, literally. And then you got a bus coming the other way, like, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I actually thought it's actually a good point that you've raised there. So a lot of, if you go on TikTok and type in like a multi coast driving, everyone's like, do not hire a car, don't drive, blah, blah, blah, blah. Obviously we went in May, so it was a bit quieter, but um, we were fine. But Martin is very used to driving in Italy in a van.
So we, we had a little car, so it was fine. It was just like a little Cleo, which we were a bit annoyed. That's what we hired,
Oh
but they didn't have any 'cause they're so popular. Yeah. Everyone wants a fit at 500. Yeah. And all the different colors and whatever, but
work on. Fiat and Alpha
Oh, they go nice. Say you go. There you go. I mean, I wouldn't have one in this country, but um, so they're cute when you're driving around a little road. Road. Yeah. Like yeah. Nearby. Um, but yeah, so we didn't find it too bad. But I think it depends on your experience with the roads and when you're going. 'cause I could imagine like June, July, August is.
Yeah.
to the point that in July and August they have a rule where it's like you are at you. So say you're like the numbers in your number plate are odd. Or even so you can only, there's like odd even days, so you can only drive every other day.
that's, I've
And parking is nuts. Like getting park and we parked for three hours in Sorento and it cost us like 40 euros.
Bloody hell.
Yeah, it was like the most expensive carpark ever. I think it might even been more than that. I think it was 16 euros an hour. Yeah, so I think it was, yeah. Yeah, it was 16, something like that. Yeah, it was a lot of money. So yeah, parking's nuts. But we were quite happy because, so there's all these different towns along the Amalfi Coast. A Mafi and Positano are the two most popular ones, and then you've got these little ones in between.
So we booked our Airbnb in Revelo, which is at the top of a mountain. 10 minutes from Amalfi.
Lovely.
We went to quite a few of the other little towns. Without a doubt, Revello was the best one for us, so we were so glad that we stayed there. 'cause then we just kind of got the other bits and bobs done and then we could just chill and be in that town. And it was just so nice. Our Airbnb was like two minutes from the central Piazza, like just beautiful. But Positano and Amalfi are busy, like.
That proper touristy.
Yeah, like, and it probably is only certain times of the day in certain areas. Like the port in Positano is really popular, like so everybody's there. But yeah, I personally, I just wouldn't wanna stay there. And the It's so expensive to stay there.
like when you go to like pad stone in Cornwall and it's like rammed. You like that? Yeah.
Like just the streets full of people and everyone's trying to move and it was just a lot. Whereas Revello is just so much more chilled and quiet, and you could just go to a restaurant and get a table easy and. So we were in a mouthy and um, you are in like this big piazza and there's all these little restaurants. They all charge an absolute fortune. They're all trying to get you in. They're all doing like the big lemons with the sorbet in it.
And you know, you literally, yeah, we sat down and had like, I had a hot chocolate. He had a coffee. We both had like a cannoli.
my
Oh, I know.
just gotta go to Italy 'cause I love Italian
Oh, it's incredible. Oh, it's incredible.
is just, you're speaking my love language there and I
Yeah. Yeah. Um, and it cost us like 40 euros.
Oh,
It's so expensive.
little funny.
But it's 'cause you are in a mouthy and the PIs are in a mouthy like everybody else. Everywhere else is fine. Like you go to revello, it probably cost you 25 euro. Like do you know, 20 euros? But, um, yeah, probably not even that. Probably like 15 euros, but yeah. 'cause you're in a mouthy. So anyway, so we're walking around this Piazza and there's this beautiful church, all these big stairs up to this big church. Beautiful, lovely. So we, oh yeah, let's go have a look.
There's all these people walking up the stairs. It was quite early in the morning, so it wasn't too busy. Anyway, we get to the top of these stairs and the doors open to the church. Everyone's kind of waiting outside. We're like, what's going on here? Maybe it's closed. The doors open. Uh, w at the bottom of the stairs, a hearse pulls up and they're coming out of the church with this coffin.
I
All the family walking behind, they're crying and I care to you. Not, this is what a mouth is like the talk. They're all just standing there watching. They got their cameras out.
Cameras
A crowd at the top.
with the
I'm not even joking like the, I had to walk away because I was like, I feel so awkward. Everyone's literally just stood there, watch, watching all the family, just file past them downstairs.
what
Honestly. That is what I mean by touristy.
That's, that's insane. That's the
If it was locals, they'd probably be like, oh my God. Like, well, you wouldn't, if it was a local church, you wouldn't even, that would be cordoned off. They'd have a rope at the bottom, like, or they'd have a sign saying like, there's a funeral happening. And you'd be like, oh.
that's
but then at the same time, it was like, I suppose if you don't, if you're from a, they're obviously from a mouthy, they obviously know what it's gonna be like. Yeah. Like.
like what you'd go, like, imagine just like sort of planning your day on your holiday, like, yep. So 10
Yeah.
we're just gonna head up to the church and, uh, we're just gonna watch this funeral.
Yeah.
and then, uh, go for a nice spot of lunch.
Well I suppose you dunno what's happening and then it just, the doors open. But my instant reaction was to walk like, just quickly,
Scuttle
like, 'cause the top of the stairs was massive, you know? So I just kind of walked to the side. But no, people were like
just
full on watching.
My
Yeah.
goodness. That is
awkward.
turtle.
Good turtle, but yeah. So yeah, but lovely place. Beautiful. But I, every time I go to Italy, you're so right about the food. Like I am, like I try, I try and like kind of eat well majority of the time. And um, you know, I love food, so like I'll always indulge on holiday, but I'm always, yeah. But I'm always like a bit, like I still like fast in the mornings and blah, blah, blah. When I go on holiday, unless I go to Italy. Like I find it impossible.
No. Like the food is just all so good that I will have breakfast, lunch, dinner every day, and snacks in between and drinks and everything.
heard that obviously what here we sort of, when we have like a pasta dish, we have it like very wet. They have it more dry there. Like it's not so like
Hmm.
saucy,
Yeah. May. Yeah. Yeah.
like
Perhaps Depends what you pick, I suppose.
I'm
Yeah. But they wouldn't drown it in a sauce, I wouldn't say. Yeah. Like you'd get ravioli with like a slight butter sauce.
Rather
Yeah.
smothering it
Like a whole tomato sauce. Yeah, no. Yeah. And like your ravioli would just be served like with the big chunks of ravioli and the pizza's just incredible. And just the cannolis and the pastries and the, even just like the lemonade and the gelato and, oh,
Jesus.
in September, so I'll be back. I'll be back. Italy, I'll be back. Come to.
I'll come with you. I
So girls holiday come along.
Oh my God, I
We'll sign you up.
ya. I'm actually going away in September myself,
yeah, of course. You're, you're going to Greece?
And I love
Yes.
as well, so
Yeah. Greek Fs good.
been
Greek Fs. Good.
honeymoon. So.
I feel like Greek food's not as bad. 'cause when I go to Greece there a lot of salads, a lot of olives, a lot of feta cheese. Yeah, a lot of like chicken and you know, like rices. Whereas when I'm in Italy I literally pasta and pizza and cannolis and cakes and,
carb
yeah. And the lemon and lemonade. Whereas like other places I'd probably stick to a lot of water during the day. Whereas there I'm like, nah, gimme can after can of that lemon soda. Yeah. Oh, that lemon soda that like local Italian make is insane. So good. So good.
Did you
So yeah,
and sightseeing?
really, no. Like not masses I suppose. Like, yeah, like we'd walk around a little town, we'd probably do a little town in the morning, then we'd just like chill in the afternoon and.
front? Is it, is it a
Yeah, but the sand is very dark. It's like And stony. Yeah. Not the best beaches, I wouldn't say like, but I'm not really a beach gal. There probably is if you hunted them out. Yeah. But, but we actually had a couple of hikes planned then when we got there, we were just like, can't be asked.
Just gonna chill.
Can't be. And also where we were positioned, so our Airbnb was like on a cliff edge, basically overlooking the view was insane.
Oh.
So, and a lot of the hikes we were looking at was like, if you're staying in revello, the views are basically the set. So the view you do on that hike, you see on that hike is the same as what we've literally got sitting on a sun louder. On it in our Airbnb and pizza. So
like, why would I go elsewhere?
why would I, why would I bother? You know, like I'm very good about, like, I like to see different areas and I like to see like local culture and I like, you know, we went to all the different little towns and whatever and like, especially like when, but my favorite part is when we just took the car up, went into the back end of the mountains. We found this insane view looking overlooking Mount Vesuvius. At night we found this little random pizzeria, they couldn't even speak English.
Like that's what I would prefer to do, you know? So yeah, we did a bit of that. So, but yeah. Yeah, so it was lovely. Weather was good, wasn't too busy, and our Airbnb was incredible. Um, so anyone that wants to go and stay, so we stayed in. Revello is called. I think it was called Ci Ciella Apartments or Ciella Villas, something like that. Um, last Ciella, I think it was called, um, message Me if you can't find it. Um, and they are airb, it's Airbnb, but it's basically like just five.
Like side by side, built into the cliff edge, these little like apartments. And you have like a, so you've got like your bed, a little kitchen and a sofa area. So it's almost like having like a junior suite in a hotel. Um, but there's only five of them and then you've got the pool,
it's
and like all the sun lounges. Yeah. So half the week it was just me and Martin. No one else was booked in.
so good.
It was so good. And they come and clean every day like they would in a hotel, which is like, I've never had that in an Airbnb before. Yeah, it's so good. And you've got like a full big fridge so you can like go and stock up on water and like we just stocked up on loads of cans of drink and beers and stuff. So just had 'em outside. Yeah, the, the lemon soda was, she'd bought us a little bottle of lemon cello, like sonar, I dunno.
Love that
And there was just lemons.
everywhere.
Everywhere. Like when I honestly and like all in their gardens, the Airbnb, like she'd just pick us a lemon and give it to us. Or you could just pick 'em up yourself.
the lemons? 'cause some lemons are sweet, aren't they? They're
Yeah. They're sweet lemons. I can literally sit and eat it. I could eat the rind. Yeah. Banging so good.
lemon like that.
So honestly, they're everywhere.
Ah,
you go, there's just, you could just literally peel one off a tree. Yeah, it's expensive. I'm gonna say that now. For anyone that is thinking about Fine Moon, it's really good for UK's only two hours. Great. I think we flew standard.
Oh, okay. Not too
Yeah, and I, I think you could probably fly from other, I, I'm not sure actually where else you could fly from, but we went from Stan, um, two hours. Airbnbs and stuff are pretty expensive. Hotels are pretty expensive. What I'd say is looking back now, Capri is incredible. We went there for two nights. Um, but it's very much like Capri is basically dripping in money. Like all the shops are like, well, this is a thing I didn't,
no.
yeah. Yeah, literally. Right? All the shops are like Versace di your like, or all the designers are there, like every designer brand you could think of has a shop there. All the people are dripping in money. Everything is so expensive. We went for lunch in our hotel. We got two cup sandwiches and of cost us 80 euros.
are joking.
zero euros for two sandwiches. Yeah. And we didn't even, like, I just had water 'cause we were just chilling by the pool.
that's
But every, I know and like everything at that hotel was like, like it was nice to be there. The hotel was nice, but it was nothing compared to our Airbnb and like to buy a beer around the pool was like. 10 euros for a beer or like a lemonade or whatever. So I did. I went to the shop and bought a load
blame you.
then brought 'em back, but they didn't say anything. But I think they're probably looking at us like, because everybody else there was just ordering drinks. Ordering drinks all day. And I'm thinking, if two of you ordering drinks all day, how much money is this costing you?
Surely.
of wish we did. We had the most incredible day there. We got, we hired a private boat, which massively, if you go into a mouthy coast, do it. So it's just us two on the boat cost us about 300, 350 euros. Lot of money, but
I don't know. That's,
it's not horrific, is it?
it was more than that, to be honest. When you
Yeah. It's a whole afternoon. You're on the boat. Three hours. Yeah.
to like. Um,
Yeah.
say drive, but it is driving a bow
Yeah, try. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You sell your round. Yeah.
Really?
the spots. Yeah. And you get all your like, um, drinks and stuff on board. We just bought, um, from the, there was a little shop at the port where it did all like sandwiches and pastries and stuff, so we bought a load of bits and bobs and had it on the boat.
Lush.
but, so I would say, and then we went to this in Isa, like a TikTok Sensation restaurant in the evening. It's called Laina or something
Ooh.
and de something like that. If you go on TikTok and type in restaurant Capri comes up, it's all entered the lemon trees. Some of the reviews are like, it's expensive. Again, I'll say it cost us like 250 euros to have dinner there, but we had wine, we had three courses. Um, but what I'll say is it's incredible the experience, the weight and staff are like, like they, they just could, couldn't do any more for you. Um, in incredible experience. But actually looking at it, I'm like.
We could have gone there for a day because it's easy to get a boat there from a mouthy. I'd have got the private boat. I'd have gone around, Capri, stopped there, had our lovely dinner, and then gone back to Revello.
Okay.
So for future, if anyone's booking it, that's what I'd say, unless you're minted.
there.
Go Capri because it's a beautiful little, it's a stunning town. Stunning, again, very busy, but very busy with women in expensive dresses and high heels. It's not my vibe and my Primark shorts and my flip flops.
ain't
Maybe Zara. All right. Maybe I, maybe Zara really pushing the boat out.
I'm wearing anything. Designer, it's come from Vintage mate.
Literally. Literally a machine sunglasses, you know? So, yeah, baby was beautiful and it was lovely and we had an amazing time. And that, that's enough about me making you jealous about my trip.
No, but it's good though. It's like, 'cause you do a lot of traveling. I think it's important to talk about it because if anyone listening is going on honeymoon
Yeah.
or they're actually thinking of getting married abroad
Oh, so many weddings happen in the mouth coast. You can hear the cheering
I,
daily, the bells ringing and the cheering.
people
Ah.
there.
Like, maybe I could do a wedding there now. No, no. Honestly, just the logistics of that one road and the traffic, I'm just like,
No way.
what the fuck? I
How, how
Yeah.
that
I mean, yeah, do it. Get married. I'd get married there. But hire an attack. Hire a person who lives in the Amalfi Coastal. Plan your wedding. Do not hire a British planner, sorry, British planners who offer that as a service, but it's just what I believe
I,
and
I do, I
yeah.
that person, it's like you, you are gonna be knowledgeable and you're gonna be experienced in your area. Like if
Yeah.
married in Oxford. Well, no problem. You do
Yeah. No, it, yeah, exactly.
Whereas,
like, yeah, you a hundred percent.
someone
It's our country.
like getting a planner who's never been to the
Yeah.
and just plan a wedding there. It's
Yeah. I just don't get it. I don't get it.
logistics. Like there'll be certain caveats and
Mm-hmm.
that, that venue might have that they wouldn't perhaps know, so.
And the culture and the language. You know, I understand British culture. I can easily do a wedding anywhere in England because we understand the culture, we know how venues work. They all work very similar. Whereas it's probably the same in Italy, but it's very different to England. And I've been there a lot of, I've been to Italy multiple times, but I still wouldn't feel comfortable planning a wedding there because I don't live there.
I don't speak the language and I don't fully understand the real culture
exactly.
Maybe you feel like your husband's Italian or something and you're there all the time and you
a bit
around Italian family. Yeah, but
I just think it's a little bit, I. I don't wanna
it just doesn't make sense to me.
say ignorant because it's not ignorant, but I just feel like, I feel like people wanna do destination weddings, like as a, like I know a lot of
Yeah.
that want to
Mm-hmm.
destination.
we're traveling with work. No.
Like, look, I'm here doing this, that, and the
Yeah.
Which is fantastic. Like, good for
If that's what you wanna do. Yeah.
unless you've
Gives me too much anxiety if your flight gets canceled, which happens a lot like in the uk, if you've trained, if you say you're traveling to a wedding by car and your car breaks down, you know you can easily get another car from someone, get a Lyft from someone that lives near you, or you can get trained or you can get bus. Like getting a flight is a bit of a different cattle of fish.
there on my rowboat.
Like what the, yeah. But yeah. But no, it was amazing and it was very nice too. I'd say it's probably one of the first trips I've done, I know from my honeymoon, but I'd say that's a little bit different. And actually I don't feel like I've fully a hundred percent switched off. I a hundred percent switched off. I took my email off my phone. I didn't look at any of WhatsApp. I actually, for a couple of days, my phone ran outta battery and I just left it like I
you.
used it. My screen time for the whole week was four hours.
actually impressive.
And a couple of that, and a lot of that was like where I'd been looking at like where I had tickets for like the ferry over to Capri and I had like, I wanted to check Google Maps for a couple of restaurants and like, you know, it was things like that. Barely used it.
Map.
I've been back 10 days and I've still not re-added my email on my phone.
Oh my
I know.
How's that going for you?
Fine. Yeah. I mean, but I have been office based since I've been back, but like the weekends I've just not even automatically clicked on it. Where then your, your brain is in mode, but like, I've got a wedding on Tuesday and I'm a bit like, Hmm. I'm not, but I, the way that I'm thinking of it is I've got my email on my iPad if I desperately need it.
And also I'm just gonna put my out of office on and say I'm doing a, we, I'm very good with my out of office for saying when I'm not in the office, so I'm gonna put my out of office on, say, if it's related to the wedding, call me,
Yeah,
me.
give me a car. Yeah,
So yeah, anything else can wait till Wednesday. I'll be better. I'll be in the office Monday. I'll be in the office Wednesday. Like do I need my email on my phone? Do I need to be distracted from that one wedding? No. So yeah, if it's
I'm
urgent, do pe,
is a
do people email when it's that
No, I
I don't think they do. Yeah.
phone
Yeah.
maybe send a WhatsApp, you know, like
Exactly.
isn't
Yeah. And my, and even if they do email me, it tell, like literally it tells you my phone number with my WhatsApp. So it's fun.
excuse.
yeah, revolutionary, a step forward and I feel like I really switched off. And I feel like that is a lot down to like having an amazing team. I've got incredible people that work with me now and they understand what's going on and they just pick the four up and they know what's what's happening. So.
That's what you need.
Yeah, but it was straight back into it. I'm not gonna lie. Final meeting season.
Oh
And it's a lot, a lot of them in it. 'cause we are really, really busy in June. So it's a lot of final little finer, finer details to the point. Like I'm just gonna like mention a couple of bits just because there might be a lot of listeners that are like in the same boat.
literally the time when you, it is coming like, I dunno, four, six weeks before your wedding
Yes.
thinking all these
Yeah.
And then also like I remember when I was getting married, like I just, I dunno what happened to me, but I just started like picking up on like tiny little
Yeah. Literally
things
like
are,
in the night. Yeah. Yeah. One of my, I, we've got a wedding on Tuesday and bless her. She's the, my next two weddings are like polar opposites. My Tuesday bride is all about like massively into the detail, like hugely and by bride, the next bride.
Just
She, she doesn't even, she hasn't even, she hasn't even ordered her stationary. She hasn't even got place cards. I did her final meeting and I was like, okay, so what, who, where you get your stationary from? She was like, well, well, oh.
What?
What? What do I need? These are on the day managements, by the way, this isn't me planning their wedding. I'm like, well, you know that place cards and stuff. She's like, oh yeah, I suppose I do need place cards. So I was like, yeah, you do. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You kind. You kind of need to do that today as well. By the way, also, when they book me for on the day management, they do get a full plan to follow to make sure they plan their wedding correctly. If they read it, don't read it.
It's not my fault.
I don't take any, uh, responsibility for that
No, and I also do a, a, I also do a, um, a site visit with them a few months before, and I did tell her then as well, but, you know, so very different, very different opposing people here, right? So,
Working with like two completely, like you say, polar
oh, yeah.
a hard, actually, I suppose, like
but then like the one for Tuesday's been email and like, oh, I've just had a nightmare that this happens. So can we make sure that doesn't happen? Like kind of thing. So she, there's different worries, different things that you stress about, but little things that I've been seeing with my, on the day managements cropping up that people haven't been thinking about. ICE is a big one.
Oh
So if you're riding your own drinks ice, lot of,
Well, you need ice for drinks generally
yeah.
you? But I mean, especially this time of
Yeah.
hot.
Storing it as well. Like, so what I say to a lot of my, a lot of caterers don't supply anymore. You can get like, um, you can hire an ice machine or you can hire, um, you can hire like a company to drop off like a ton of ice or whatever. But a lot of my couples, I'm like, just do a Tesco order for all your soft drinks and all your ice and chuck it in a trailer fridge
Oh,
and it, the ice will last all day in a trailer fridge. It'll be fine.
Weirdly,
In a cool box.
about an ice machine last night. 'cause he
There you go.
a pub and
Mm-hmm.
you know, when you get the ice that comes and it's got the hole in it.
Yeah.
I didn't realize that. It's like these prongs and
Mm-hmm.
and they come up and like, it's like, takes six minutes to make like loads of ice. And that's why
Yeah.
'em off is they have the little hole inside. 'cause
Oh.
made.
Oh yeah. I don't really know how it made, it just spits out from the water. I dunno. I
I'd
haven't really thought about it, if I'm honest.
like, this is, wow. This is incredible.
Yeah. Wow.
pleased, guys. Easily
Definitely. Definitely. Um, the other one I've had a lot of is order of service. You need an order of service for your church. If you get married in your church, you have to have order of service. And again, I've had, um, one of my couples who I said to them, you know, you normally you get the script written up from the church and then you print it. And they were like, oh no, I think the church has printed it. They contacted the church. The church hasn't printed it.
They just hadn't made that very clear to them. So they've now gotta quickly get some print, which is easily done. You can get printers down the road to print it within a couple of days. But yeah, just something to think about.
totally.
Yeah. And also thinking about how you wanna be known on the wedding day. So
point.
a lot of my couples this year aren't changing their name, so.
Oh
On the day you will be announced, you know, by your DJ for your first dance into the room for your wedding breakfast. And normally they'll go, Mr. And Mrs. For example, me and Martin Roberts, I changed my name, so I'm happy with that. But if you're not, you might rather be just, um, you know, please be stand in for your bride and groom, or please be stand in for Hannah and Martin, like, you know, so you need to stipulate that.
Like make sure that that's known
Yeah.
that you are happy with how they're
Yeah.
introducing you.
So just a couple of bits there. Maybe we'll go, we did talk about, maybe we'll go into more depths, uh, maybe in another episode about what, um,
emails and messages, don't we? About sort of
yeah.
in our final meetings. I think
Yes.
it before, but a while. It was over a year ago now, and we've had
Yeah,
of recent messages, so I think we'll do
yeah. We'll do it. Do that. Yeah.
put people's minds at ease.
Yes, but that's been my life for the last couple of weeks. Yeah, it feels like ages ago since we've recorded an app, isn't it?
because we were, um, obviously we were pre-recording, weren't we? And then you were
Yeah,
and then
yeah,
week was a bit,
yeah. We're back with a bang.
baby.
I just say, I know we did like, what is it called? Like a podcast, you know, like where you do old clip, you know, bits of, I can't think what the word I, I know.
uh.
I know what the term is, but it's like mind blank. It's, we're recorded on a Sunday, by the way, guys. It's Sunday, so, uh, I can't think what the word is, but you know when you piece
know.
Yeah. Maybe something like that. I actually don't like those. They actually really piss me off, you know? But it pisses me off when it's Christmas and it's Christmas and your favorite podcast is like, fuck Christmas. Like, we're still gonna be bringing you an episode with that. Amazing. Then you get the episode and it's a fucking recap of the year, and you're like,
Yeah. It's
I listen.
Yeah.
Yeah, I listen to every episode you ever bring me was, I think it was probably a little bit different for us because obviously it's refreshing the tips, whereas I don't wanna hear about a story about what Jane did in a week. Like I've already heard that, you know, and you're recapping it to me at Christmas while I'm bored, you know?
When
Yeah,
everyone's got more time to listen,
yeah,
of really, I suppose.
yeah.
Oh.
So what else has been happening in the world? Um, the BAFTAs happened.
yeah. And I saw this because, um, I love looking at what people wear and the, and the Met Gala as well, but specifically
Yeah.
it was interesting because I see that Stacey Solomon
Yeah.
upcycled her wedding dress
Yes. And Vicki Patterson,
She as
of them. Yeah.
Yeah.
Patterson dyed her as a lemon color,
Ah, interesting.
and I think she had some adjustments. Stacey Solomon's was like all cut up, wasn't it?
was like shorts underneath, like the,
Yeah.
uh, the shiff
Yeah. What a good idea.
thought so. Uh, because I, we always say like, what, like my wedding dress is in storage above my wardrobe. You know, it's just
Yeah. It's just that.
do you do with, I mean, not that I'm getting invited to the baths anytime soon. I mean, our podcast could go real viral and, uh, we could end up one
Well, yeah.
we'll have to get it
Yeah. We might. We might. We hope. Yeah.
yeah, like what do you do? You know, it's nice to do something with it.
You know what? I saw this when I got back from Italy, and it was our one year anniversary when we went. That's why we went to Malta's one year anniversary. Um, and I bought a nice dress. I wanted a nice gold floor length dress. Like, kind of, well, like I, I went for like a champagne kind of color for the night when we went to the DPO place or the beautiful dinner. That's why we went extravagant. By the way, guys, it was our one year anniversary
for
just to slot that in there. Um.
just wanna clarify.
Just, just clarifying, you know, being relatable, you know, and, and I'm not rich. Um, and then I thought afterwards, well I could have upcycled one of my wedding dresses. I've got two sat here,
Oh my
you know,
Yeah.
one which has still not been cleaned. And I think I said on the podcast about a year ago that I was gonna clean it. Yeah.
I was just like, what happened to it? We never spoke of it
Yeah.
Did
Because I do think I'm gonna sell that one. I was thinking about selling that one, but my whales one, I love the fit of the dress anyway as standard. So I'm thinking I could just have a bit of the train, 'cause it's got a tiny train anyway, but I could just have it so it's just floor length and then have it dyed a different color
idea.
for like, you know, like when you go to like a awards evening. So like, you know when you go to like these network and things in London, I
Like a
because I was, I was always thinking about, yeah, going like a black or navy blue or something. But then when I saw. Vicki Patterson, she'd gone for like a lemon. I was like, Ooh. Like maybe a sky blue or something. Yeah. But I'm a little bit like, where do you go to get this done? Obviously these gal are rich. They've got money they can afford to just get anybody.
with dial on. Are you
Exactly. You get my gist to, yeah. Like,
like Brown?
yeah. Where am I getting this bottom of my dress cut off? I'm guessing a seamstress.
I'd have thought
So I need to look into it.
There's probably
Yeah.
like little like, um. Little businesses, you know, small
Yeah. Hope maybe
like do that
if anyone knows of any, let me know. Um, yeah. So yeah, I need to look into that, but I thought, what a good idea. But isn't it weird that they both did it, the se for the same event
I know.
and like, I suppose Vicki Paton got married last year, but Stacey Solomon's been married a while, isn't she?
three years or something. Two,
Yeah, probably. I don't know.
it wasn't just start, didn't they get engaged over Covid or something then it was like they
I don't know.
it and then they got
Do you know what? I've never really followed them until they've done this series so good.
to earth though.
So down to earth.
I've really
Yeah,
it.
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And it made me feel a bit better about, you know, how you come, when you come outta wedding, when you've been in winter and you come out of winter and you're into wedding season and you start to be like, almost feel a little bit. Like, oh my God, I need to be out in the world and actually running weddings. And the same with you like doing the flowers and it makes you feel a bit better when you see people like that.
Then they were very much like, he, like he was very much like, oh God, like I'm going back to work. Like, and I love what I do, but I'm like not feeling great about it.
I'm
Like, and I'm exactly the same, like when I'm thinking about weddings coming up and I'm like, oh my God. But when I'm there, I'm great. Love it. But yeah, you do. You do. But yeah.
Yeah. It's good. I, I've really enjoyed it actually.
Yeah. I enjoyed seeing that in the press anyway. Um, got a raise, m and s. Wow.
It's
What is going on there?
so well for them. Is it
It's not going well for the Colin Caterpillar cakes. No. What? I don't,
of pounds on this
don't understand what happened and why. All I know is all I'm seeing is everybody panicking 'cause their m and s wedding cake has been canceled.
I've seen this a lot actually. Online.
Yeah.
Scary. I mean, what you do in that
Was it a hack? Hack? Somebody hacked or something,
I think they were
right?
I can't remember. tried to explain it to me, but
Yeah. God knows
to
the
they basically like phished everyone's information and then they've been sending out like emails to, to those customers pretending to be m and SI think. Like something
Oh Jesus.
and obviously then they
And then you gotta click the link and then put your bank details in. Right. Said to cancel everything. But yeah. So wedding, but you still can't order a wedding cake now, apparently. But, um, what I'd say is obviously we would always massively recommend using local cake makers anyway. 'cause then you're not gonna, the thing is with the local cake makers Yes.
Like, as we've seen this week of like lily, things can still happen, but they're a much more likely to be able to recommend somebody else to sort it out for you. Or B, the fact that you are actually allow able to speak direct to them. Trying to speak to m and s about your wedding cake being canceled is probably gonna be near on impossible.
one point of contact to say
No.
go through all of the departments just to find out. And I feel like
yeah,
thing that worries me about big companies. So like even like when
yeah,
bridesmaids dresses and things like
yeah.
with everything, if you can go local, I think you
Yeah.
I think there's like this misconception that when you go locally or use like a small business, you're gonna get charged more money.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
because
No.
reckon what you spend on an m and s wedding case. like 150 pounds,
Yeah. I think they're about a hundred. I think they're only about 80 quid, a hundred quid, but they're only two
Yeah,
shitty small sponge cakes.
a fabulous tasting
No, it's not. Trust me, I've tried it
an extra 30 to
and they're tiny.
Yeah. You probably get a nice homemade
Yeah, you spend, spend a couple hundred, spend a bit more money and Yeah, exactly. It's gonna be better. Yeah, definitely.
also with that comes a reliable, personable service, which you cannot
gonna, yeah, you pay for that. And, but it's worth it for the stress of this. But in terms of, um, Lola's cupcakes, they now do wedding cakes. Um, patisserie, Valerie, I think they do them. I think Waitrose do a similar service. So if anyone is panicking and you wanna go and just quickly rush out and get one.
or just go and get, um, what's it, what's the one that, um, ka Aldi
Yeah,
ca.
the big caterpillar, but these actual sponge, what they call wedding cakes, it is literally just like a 10 inch round sponge, like Victoria sponge cake. Like I don't like, I dunno what anyone is expecting here. No.
No. Oh.
it's just ice and sugar. I think you can get fondant ones. I think Waitrose do fondant ones. I don't think m and S do off the top of my head. I'll have to have a look.
being funny, but you
It's just 'cause I never use these kind of places. Well, exactly. This what I mean. You could just go get some like giant birthday cakes if you were that panicking. But
switch it up and do like a, if you were really panicking, go and do like a dessert station
so much better. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, so that, I also had to bring up that honestly. Right. And I, and I'm sorry if I'm gonna offend anyone here, but I saw this post the other day and it was somebody had, was like, oh, I'm now not sure about my invites. And I actually forgot that these ever existed,
my God.
and I don't, I am shocked there's still a thing. I didn't think there was still a thing, but paper wedding invites. So when I say paper wedding invites, I mean, you know when you go in like. Clinton's cards and you get a pack of like 20
they
and you hand write.
they sell 'em in Hobby Craft.
Oh dear, guys, like, and then you've gotta sit and hand write, but I thought this was a birthday party thing, not a wedding invite thing, maybe 15 years ago. But what, so you sit and write like two Haley, and then you fill in, you know, those little dots? The ceremony is at 2:00 PM the reception is at x pm at this location. I can't believe they're still a thing.
yeah.
I saw someone post them and I was shocked.
loads. Actually, I've caught a confession, and that is that
What
engaged and I sent out my save the dates, I, I actually did that.
Haley?
know. Oh no. Oh, they were awful as well. They were awful. They were so tacky. They
it not a ball lake though? Handwriting them all out.
widow. I was like, I love doing things like that.
Oh, okay.
got too much time on
I suppose it's not too bad for say no, it is bad. It is bad.
terrible.
on Etsy and buy from a local supplier. Some lovely already, like pre-written invitations with your names and dates on it. Maybe I don't, I don't think it has.
Oh, it was only with save the dates though. 'cause my actual invites were beautiful and, uh, handmade
Save the dates. You can have like a lovely little postcard of your picture of you guys on it. Probably for not much more money than, well they probably are a lot more money. 'cause what can you get a pack of 20 invites for like a quid or something.
even remember.
Sorry guys. If I've offended anyone and it's just an invitation, but it's just not for me. I don't like 'em. I don't like they, they just scream 10 year olds. What? And then you fold them in half and put 'em in a little well, white envelope. Like what? It just screams birthday party at like, you know, when you were a kid.
birthday.
Yeah. You know when you're a kid and you get one in your book bag and you've got this little envelope and you unfold it and then your mum magnets it to the fridge and you've got about 10 of them on the fridge. Sorry guys. But it just, just what it screams to me, it's not for weddings.
one of those for your friend's wedding, would you be thinking this doesn't bode well for the, uh, for the day?
Yes, I'd be ringing them saying, let me fucking help you because
I can
there's cost effective ways to make your wedding nice. You can go on Canva and make a beautiful full invitation.
made some really nice, um, bits and pieces for Lily's first birthday on Canva.
I made, I did all my invitations on Canva and or you can do electronic invitations like we spoke about many times, which look cool. You can have music, but it's the fact that the handwriting Biro, that's what I'm against, is when it's like, we would like to invite you to. Well, yeah. Dot, dot, dot, dot, dot. And in the dots, you then fill it out. That's what I'm opposed to was you can go on canvas and type that in and get it printed. That's a thing. Yeah.
actually
it's very cheap.
I actually used the gold gel pen as well.
Did it come with the gold children?
that. It probably
Wow.
more than the invite,
Probably Jesus. Jesus.
it's confession time here at, uh,
Confession. Oh, yes. Send a new confession. Please send me in a picture. If you have done this, by the way, I won't, I I, I'm not being mean. I just wanna see them. I wanna see how, I mean, you might be able to get some nice designs. I highly doubt it, but maybe you can.
maybe.
we go.
Um, so first of all, before we go into listeners questions, we've got a follow up from, uh, the, the person who wrote into us who wasn't feeling excited for her wedding because the bridesmaids didn't seem to be
Yeah, I remember.
Yeah. So.
And wasn't her husband like worked away or her husband to be, works away quite a lot and stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
a bit low about it all.
Yeah.
um, so she says, hi, Haley and Hannah. I've wanted to say thank you for your help with my last message. I took your advice and opened a wedding WhatsApp group. Most messages get ignored.
Oh,
Oh, but it helped a bit. I honestly don't know what I would do without your amazing podcast. Who needs bridesmaids? You two are so much better. Oh,
oh, that gives me shivers. They're so nice.
You obviously must have seen it. 'cause sometimes we,
Yeah.
but sometimes either one of
Yeah, yeah,
up
yeah, yeah, yeah. What a lovely message, isn't it? Thank you so much. Like honestly, we really appreciate it and we've been getting some lovely emails in lately. Um, I offered up a copy of my wedding plan, which again, if anybody else wants it, and I'm loving how many people want it, because it shows how organized you guys are. You're learning and you listen. Um, and so many nice messages from everyone saying how much they enjoy it.
So like, we genuinely really appreciate it because we don't earn any money doing this. Like we don't wanna earn any money. We just enjoy it. Like, and yeah.
to like, when people actually sort of like get in touch and get
Yeah,
you know, you're helping people especially
exactly.
this, this lady, but
I
um,
glad And like, screw the bridesmaids. I can't believe they're still ignoring you. Like, just message us for anything you need.
your bridesmaid.
Well, yeah, a hundred percent. Uh, but also I feel like maybe closer to the time it might change and yeah, let's just hope and you, I feel like you just need to not worry about those kind of things and just got, you just need to have the best day and just keep remembering. It's all about you too.
Yeah, that's
Yeah.
you hun, as they say.
do. Yeah.
Okay, perfect. So next up, we've got a question come in. So, hello. I would love some help on a hard subject, which did
Oh.
laugh.
So mature.
We've had the venue bit since the start of the year and got deposits on a few of the big things. Uh, we've been really lucky to have been given a chunk of money for our weddings, so we'll foot maybe a third of the full price, probably
Nice.
go over.
Well, yeah, true.
Anyway, the question is, is it normal to wonder if you should spend all this money? Are we doing the right thing? Should we quit? While we've only spent some deposits and do it smaller? I feel like we both go backwards and forwards. I know it would be the most amazing day. So is it normal to feel this way?
Um, I feel like this is a very normal thing to think about and I think that, right. Look, we are in the wedding industry, so I, I'll, I'll say my view, Haley can say her view might be different, but I just think that yes, it's one day and everybody says it's a lot of money from one day, but it's not just one day. Because actually when I think back to my wedding, it actually panned out over like eight weeks when you had the, the Hindu and we had.
Our elopement and we had our wedding day, and then we had our honeymoon. And it was just the most incredible period of my life. And I loved it. I loved every second. I've got all the memories in my photos and my video, and I just love it. And people still say to me now, like, we still talk about it now, and I've, it's a year later and I don't think that you can put a price on memories like that. And I also think it's so normal for us to just like. Chuck. I don't know.
I'm just talking from, we, we are not, we're just me, me, me and husband. We're not a family, but just chuck in a hundred quid a week on food shopping and just chucking 20 grand towards a house deposit. Like we don't think about these kind of, we just think that's the norm. Then when it comes to wedding, it's like. Yeah. And then when it comes to weddings, it's like, oh my God, all of this money. Like, but at the end of the day we do that on other things and we don't second guess it.
Like when you've gotta have your car fixed, you've gotta spend 500 quid, or you just spend the 500 quid like yeah, it's really shitty that we have to spend it.
admin.
Yeah. But then when it comes to something that's gonna be so enjoyable and incredible and like really just is an amazing part of your life, we suddenly feel guilty to spend the money.
I, I totally agree. And I think, actually, I think you said before, and it's, and it's, um, something that I've. Also feel is that you never, I don't, I haven't met anybody that regrets spending money on that money on
Yes, so true.
because it's memories that last a lifetime
Yeah.
And also, like you say, it's not just the one day, it's the whole buildup afterwards getting family and friends together and you're, you're making those memories. It's all caught on. Like you've got all the photos and stuff you can get
Mm-hmm.
And
Yeah.
yeah, I don't, I honestly haven't met anybody that's regretted spending that
No. I know. And, and, and I ask all my couples, I ask all my couples like, what is your, yeah. You spend a, a fair whack on your, no,
we
be honest. You as a good.
we spent a
High budget, wedding. Um, and yeah, like I don't, I don't, none of my couples and I always ask, well, you know, what would you change? What's your biggest regret? None ever say about the money. And they, and again, we sp we spoke about this before. The only time that I would say yes, strip it back is if you're gonna get yourself into debt. Never get yourself into debt. But you can always say, me and my, my husband said this, you know, we saved for like 18 months for our wedding.
We didn't get ourselves in debt, but. We like it was 18 months of saving. We've got, like, we've saved that money again. We are a year later down the line and we've saved that money again. Like we, you, you are always gonna save more money,
But
but don't get yourselves in debt
no.
do it,
Totally.
to postpone it. If you're gonna be in debt,
just think there's, there's not a lot in life. Sounds just gonna sound really deep, but whatever. I'm just gonna go for it.
go for it.
lot in life to be enjoyed sometimes, you know, life
Yeah.
and stuff, and
Mundane, routine.
And, and a wedding is a chance for people to kind of like escape from the. Like normal rubbish
Mm-hmm.
throws at you.
Yeah. The world.
money, but it's money that you've been, perhaps someone's gifted you that money for your
Yeah.
I think just like it only hopefully for, for your whatever. It only happens once. You never know.
Mm.
you go into it thinking this is, this is
Yeah. For life. Yeah.
you know, I think. I think go for it. Don't feel
Yeah.
it anyway. you say, as long as you're not getting into debt, you're not getting into any financial trouble and you are like sort of spending within your meetings, then
Yeah.
what do what you
Yeah.
what you feel
Yeah. And, and do what you feel comfortable with. 'cause again, that might, you know, I've got friends that have done, you know, I've got a friend coming up their weddings this year, and they're, they're getting married in the registry office two weeks before and they're having a party in the evening. There is ways of doing it cheaper, but there's a reason that you've booked this kind of wedding.
You know that you're saying you've booked a venue and you are obviously spending, you know, a fair amount of money. There are ways to cut back if you want to, but. Go with what is in your, like your dream of what you wanna do in your head, like stick to that orig. There's obviously a reason that you originally booked that and you were excited to do that. You would've booked it otherwise.
totally.
I've got friends that have been divorced and they still have incredible memories from that day. And they're still like, look at me in my wedding dress. You know?
oh, I remember like we were dancing to this song and
Yeah,
Yeah, same
exactly.
that's what I mean. It's not, yeah, it's the memories. Memories that last a
Memories for, yeah, and it sounds really cheesy, but it's true. I've also got friends who have had money donated from family for their wedding, and then they've like, oh, it's so much, me know, they've given me a lump sum of like, I don't know, 10, 20 grand. And they're like, actually, we're going to like, I don't know, add an extension on the house. And I'm like, why They gifted it for your wedding
it
And the, the extension could be done at any point.
That's what
Yes. Six bricks and mortar, and it's gonna make you more money, la la, la. But you cannot buy memories. And they haven't got those memories now that
like
we have.
too much thinking. I feel like there's like this big kind of pressure for
Mm,
get another house, get a bigger house,
yeah.
car, do this, have the
Yeah.
da, da. And actually I think like I. Just live for them. Like, if you wanna get married, you wanna have your dream
Yeah.
you've got, you've been, you've got the money to do it. I think you should just spend it and do it, because when
A hundred percent.
when else in your life are you gonna be in that position again?
Yeah.
mean, literally imagine like getting 20 grand, just being like, well now do you know what? I'm just gonna spend it on an extension. Well, what's that Other than, other than like, I don't know, getting a better house, maybe like for the, in the
Yeah.
of who, who
Yeah, exactly. Yeah,
yeah.
And you know, and I'm a big believer in, you know, you should be in a, in the right position before you spend that kind of money. You know, if you are living in a one bedroom flat and you need a bigger house, 'cause you've got kids and you're spending 40 grand on a wedding, like yes, prioritize a hundred percent.
you know? Yeah. Like do prioritize. But I
But it sounds like from your message, you're in a position to spend the money, but you're so right about cars. That's a good point. People just drop 20 grand or like they get on lease 400 quid a month for a car or something.
many people that are in debt
Yeah,
eyeballs with their really fancy cars. Like,
yeah, yeah, yeah,
