Hi, guys. First off, I just want to say thank you so much for listening to my podcast. The response has been tremendous and I just want to say a very big thank you because it really means a lot. So this week's episode features the group Why Don't Meet. This band is pretty amazing. They've toured the world twice in the past two years and they're just really good guys. We actually recorded this conversation backstage at a concert. We were just hanging out when they were getting ready to
go on stage, so it's a very casual conversation. We talked about a lot to talk about life, touring, making new friends, and what they might be doing if they weren't making music. I hope you guys enjoyed this episode and I cannot wait for your feedback. Hi guys, Wow, I'm pretty good. How about you guys? Good? So, you guys have been touring all like around the world. See where all the entire world in a year. That's crazy. It doesn't feel like it, you know. Yeah, like it
definitely happened, but like it just felt like the world. Yeah, I mean I could only imagine. It feels like a blur. Let's see in twenty nineteen, you put out a song a month. Whose idea was that? Um? What was it? Kind of a conjoined idea. I feel like at the beginning of the year, it was just like we had all this music that we were creating, and it seemed like we we could do that. It was like, I feel like that was the best way to stay in touch with our fans and stuff. Is they just want
content all the time. And we were like, well, we could do it because we have a lot of songs. So you did it. How how many songs do you think you wrote in twenty nineteen alone? More than twelve? That's the thing. That's the thing that I will say. Towards the end though, I wanted to put on an album really bad. Yeah, I think was like, why wait a year and put out the album. If we have a song a month into the year, let's just put
one out for him then, you know. But then as the year went on, we were like, we want to put an album out more than so that's definitely gonna happen. Yeah, I think it would definitely like give us the freedom to explore with different sounds and stuff. Though, Like, I thought that was really interesting because some country, and you know, we didn't try country, but maybe that's the next did write one that was kind of country cookies and beer, cookies and beer. Oh yeah, that was happy here. Yeah,
I just need some cookie even beer. Yeah, that's the that's the can't give you the rest? Yeah, because that's gonna be the next album. Yeah, definitely, but most likely that won't be on the album. Most likely not. I think it would be. I think it'd be a smatch. I agree with that, Like, if Lonez doesn't cut it, then we're coming out with Okay, okay. I've noticed that you guys also produce a lot of your own songs. What is that process like a producing music? Because that's
a whole steal itself. It's just as fun as writing, I feel like, but it's like very unique, like it's a weird thing where like I don't know when someone hears song lyrics, you know, it can like touch him. And I think I feel like a lot of people don't realize productionally, a sound can really like grab you the same way a lyric as inside. It's just like fun to find those like moments and sounds. Do you think you'd also want to produce as like another career
for other artists. Yeah. I think there's even songs that we have like now that we're kind of like, I don't know if we would use this for us, but like it could go to someone that could kill it, like our trap music, it wouldn't be good for us. But well, like you guys are as you called the man band, so you couldn't give it to the music only a man band, but could give hem's up to a boy bands to make the man bands. We could, Oh that's true. We could help them become a man band.
That's a good show, like becoming a man all right. I think that's such a good Oh my god, you guys should do a reality TV show. I feel like that would be the most energy. And John's eyes in the back, he's like he's been saying that forever. He's like, y'all need a team. It would be the most I think, entertaining thing. Because you guys lived together, right yeah, well, well not in l A. But for the rest of the year, yes, which is like most of the time.
So when we're on tour, yes always. But Corby and I lived together and he's five minutes down the street and then they live close to you. I tried skateboarding in their house once. It's five minutes by car, just to like put that in Yeah, stoarding up like twenty minutes after his brother's and he was like, he's like, my brother skateboards and I just I wouldn't be able to do that. Yeah, well, to be fair, it was an electric scape poay. So those scooters in l A.
Like those electric scooters. I did it once and I am just like they get you around, they really do. They're efficient. It's funny, like that's how you really know you're in the future, because like five years ago, if someone was like, yeah, I'm about to go ride a bird back home like you, you look at them like technology has like freaked me out. No, think about it. It's gonna get way crazier. How much signing like corn could go off? There's a lot. I actually recently learned
that our computer power is doubling every two years. Yeah you still heard them before something it would double every twenty years, um, and then just recently so it's like this and now every two years, every two years, their computer power doubles. Wait that's a no, no, that's mental growth. No no, but that's how that's what's on the graph. Yeah, yeah, expential. Yeah it's a it's a ven diagram. That's the squares bro.
I literally still have the eight plus and I don't plan on changing it because face I d I am refusing. It's really you want to hear something, sad. I bought a new phone in Australia like two three weeks ago, okay, and I already lost it and I'm using my own phone. Lost it. I don't know where it is. I think it's all our bus every day. Won't show up and
find my iPhone because it's dead, hoping it. I mean, there is something to be said about like being on tour and changing where you're living every like every day. It's hard to keep hard starting about Yeah there's no closet, like you can't how much how much do you miss the closet? Oh my, oh my god, I go home this time, your closet, Oh my gosh, that's gonna be like so nice clothes. My closet from all my old stuff is like full now, So I gotta figure out.
It's going to be a day of like swarting. But I'm excited everything. See. I think that's just so exciting. It's just like a fresh start. Isn't it ever hard just being together? Because you know, you guys are best friends, but it should be at this point that just seems stressful to me. It's like no, because because we're just stupid. It's good to actual friends. I think with us is that we usually are always just like working all day together. So when we finally have the chance to just hang
out together, it's just so much fun. That's where it is, honestly, because like most friends have you spent all day together, you're just like bored all day or we're like working, and then the end of the day it's like you can actually like yeah, Plus, we have this like relatability factor with each other where like we can talk about like what we do all the time, but like no one really really gets it the same way that we do special in a profession like this because with other
people they might think it's bragging or something. It's your life, Yeah, that is one thing, Like like talking to other people outside of the band is like I've been trying to just be aware of that because like I automatically like go into like talking about the band like every and I don't exactly interview mode. And I don't want to come off like I'm bragging, but that's all my brain is like trained to do, you know, I like I
will always I don't. I'm like, okay, I'm not going to talk about the band is time and then I'll talk about it like somehow they're just like, so you're in a band, actually that always? How did you know that? Well, it's probably because of the any you have a good point.
Now it's gonna be crazy to go home and have time to just like I do not like relearn how to just like have you normal because like for the last I mean honestly, like two and a half years, we've been on the road, like it we were on the road for the year, but before that we were on the road for a whole different world too. Like it's been it's and so like everything that, Yeah, you're being asked all day about yourself and you're talking the fans and like it's just like not very normal conversation
the whole day every day. Honestly, being in a band help slot. I think that helps you just like talk after but even that we're together all the time. So I would say something to Jack, I wouldn't say to someone I just met, yeah, say some weird stuff. And so like just so meeting someone that doesn't know you it on stuff is like it's so not normal right
now for us, So that will be nice. Honestly, is the concept of just like making a new friend that possibly like doesn't know what you do sounds weird right now, But I don't think it's like that that's exciting to me. It sounds different going into it. How that's going to change like anyone's perspective of you? Right, So you go in, you're meeting someone, you talk to someone, and then all
of a sudden you mentioned you're in a band. Oh, like you just wonder like, oh, is that going to change the way they look at me just because I'm in a band or because I do what I do? And like, so that's always like an interesting like dynamic to meet new people. And also a social media and followers, it's hard to see who like your true friends are
and who are there for the right reasons. I think that's why we get along is because we know that like we're doing what we do, and like also have a good sense of like we can kind of recognize when people are doing it for the but like because we're so used to it, that sucks. And for us it's not even bad. I wouldn't say. I wouldn't say it's like crazy for us right now like those people. Yeah, and there's not even like too many people that are trying to at least it seems to me. But you
just can't recognize it. Honestly. It depends on so much when someone recognizes you, like because like right now we're at the end of like a year long tour and so like when you're in like say you're a hotel, that's like your safe haven. It feels like, you know, that's where you want to just like rest your brain.
And so like the scary thing is if one person comes up that goes out to the world on Facebook or whatever they're using, and then you know, so sometimes you want to hide from that person in your hotel. But then there's other circumstances where it's just like a sweet fan that's coming up and you're just like, of course I want to, you know what I mean. So it's like this weird, but it's like no privacy in
a way. Yeah, but you signed up for so you gotta remember that you gotta remember that that like you, you knew it was coming, you know, and and and percent of time it's good intention when they're coming out there excited. Yeah, they just want to you know, obviously, they just want to meet you. There's nothing wrong with that point zero one that I'll get you. But but it's from the rain. Yeah, there's the world is mostly nice,
which is good there. Well, if you guys can hear the sound check on the podcast, there's, um, well, there's a sound check going on. There's a sound check. But you guys, yeah, you guys have a lot of fans and there are I remember watching an interview with the Jonas brothers and when they said that one of their friends hid in their suitcase and then popped out in their hotel roomed never happened, fan experience, What would you
do in that situation? We m just suddenly gained like you and I really like grabbed Daniel slippers once I stole them and then just stole them just like dove in front of me and stole my sty There was there was a mom that ran up on stage and started dancing with us were performing. But I don't even know if she had a daughter. At the I don't
know just the woman. We did like this merch tour and we were all walking out to the sprinter van and a girl literally ran up behind me and just grabbed my cross from like so hard, so hard, and I like looked back and she was like hiding her face and then like just got away, Like wow, who does that does in Finland? When I bought that in Finland? One time I walked on my it was like eight am.
Opened the door and like every door in the hallways, like the floor of the hotel, and we're like good morning. It was like it was crazy. One time I was going to the bus, right and I get on the bus, I have to go to the bathroom. Yeah, I open the bathroom do when there's a girl in there on your No, I'm kidding. I was like, I feel like I would have heard of merch trusting. It was that mom. It wasn't our merchant she was a mom was signing in our merchanty. I heard she got arrested, but I
don't know if that actually. Why did she hiding? Was it? I heard that she was just dancing in the merch trip. She was like something she was entertaining herself. Honestly, I don't know if there's ever, like been anyone in the world who's gotten drunk enough to just go run on stage her daughter Like, oh no, I'm telling you she didn't have a kid there. I don't know about that. Since you guys have traveled the world, is there any place that Singapore nice? Is there? Is there a place
you would not want to go back? I know, but I can't say. I hate to say. I can't say, but I don't want them to hate us. You know, I'm not have the same answer. Okay, I'll tell you. I'll say it at the same time, but we're gonna double check all the make hiring in a box ig. It's like the title of the the country. Why don't we no, no, no, To be fair, I don't think there's any place that we hate, okay, strong, But there's
just places that are inconvenient and stressing. Yeah, okay, But traveling the world, it's really funny and it is cool, Like it is cool even if we even if you only go a place once, Like it's really cool to see like all the stuff that's there and compared to just other stuff you've seen in other different different cultures and different foods, textures, different people were different, even just language, manner, mannerisms.
It was crazy. We went to Malaysia and they literally had wild monkeys like running around and we went to this cave and it was like they well they were mad. They were like you were angry, like, um, yeah, we were like getting close to one, like saying hi, and it was like came at us. And then the same one attacked our friend. That's it. Yeah. And then our
friend Jason, who were like runs our sound for us. Um, he was walking with his latte and the monkey ran up his leg, grabbed the latte and then dipped and started drinking it in front of him, like making one of them. That's incredible. I mean you didn't think it was incredible. He's pretty yeah there doing this. I was asleep. So is there a place you wish you could go? And haven't gone yet? Ye? Goodbye? Have you guys gone
to Africa? We haven't. Hey. I find it so interesting that you wrote a song about Brazil never been that was kind of like a place come to Brasil, and the titles come to Brazil. The lyrics says, yeah, I just might come to Brazil. So we have to still go, but we have to say that we had been were in Brazil, you know, wasn't that We're coming to see that coming works rethmically just did it makes sense? It is a play on work coming to Bridge. We have to go though, we do have to go to Brisbane.
There have been there have you every state or every country? Do you change that lyric to whatever that country is, Brisbee some places? And then I can do your strategy and then you're like, come to kick that works, that's about it. Like Guatemala, come to Parkinsaw, come to Guatemala, like it would work. Come to New York. Yeah, that's fine. But today if you say come to New York, then you'd have to change the next line to Meade Lane night.
Last night at a party necessarily the four that was good, and then the next my vibe I said, you're a doorge. That's means just like yeah, I like you anyways? Crazy how what the power of social media does, especially just in general and with the popularity of your guys band. But the power of social media is insane. It's it's got its pros and cons. I think, as everything does.
But like it's easy to like see The one thing is like with Twitter, Twitter, I feel like it's just a hub for a bunch of like people with very expressive opinions on both sides of the spectrum, just like ravaging each other. And it's like, yeah, that's how do you guys maintain a healthy relationship with social media? I think I think you got to just use in good measure. No, no one would turn your phone off and just you know,
tune out for a second is really important. That was in we were in the Philippines and a T and T. I don't think it's supported by the Philippines. I lost my service. We got like suspended and I never got it back. But honestly, it's been kind of nice. I suggest just cutting service so then you can go on it's like a WiFi or something. But then but when I'm yeah, most of the time not on WiFi. I'm not on my phone net service. What do you want? Yeah,
you should have waited. I got a sponsorship, we could have done something. They're sorry, sorry, you think I do think that like social media gives you know, up and coming artists and even you know artists who are puny, you know, done well, um, like such a platform to get their stuff out and like you don't need like back in the day it was just like radio and TV and um record sales and stuff. But now it's just like so easy to just get your stuff out there.
And I mean we took advantage of that growing up, and like, I think that's a big reason why we met each other and why we're a banned And I think, like I was actually really proud of myself for this, uh last year, when my anxiety was pretty bad, I shut off my phone for all of winter break and I had so much extra time. I learned how to play the ugual late because I screen time. It's like twelve hours a day, that's what people used to do. Yeah,
it wasn't really bad. It's so sick though. Yeah, that's good. Check your screen time. I have done time on. I check my screen time right now. I check my screen time and it's an hour and forty minutes. That's not bad. Yeah, Like you gotta get on this thing, the time limit, Like do you have a time The only thing is you can like totally just biopasses, but if you respect that, you put it there. Yeah, my screen time is three
Oh no, got worse. That's pretty bad, stiff, don't have my phone on with let me see what my was like six At one point. My screen time is pretty bad because I was watching YouTube early. That's what gets you. Yeah, you give me like, okay, mine is that? And keep in mind it's only early in the afternoon. There's no twenty do you say down from last I got seven hours, my god hours, but it's down six from last, so it must just be a good week for you. Man, Yeah,
I don't know from last week? Oh my god, what does that mean? You're crazy? Dude. What if like for a month, everyone in the whole world like turned off their phone. I wonder how much more people would learn that month, Like like you learned the ukuleately, I'm sure the good one. I spent three hours on Instagram. No one would know how see it goes? You go down that looking three hours on Instagram and I spend three
hours settings. No. I hate when you're on Instagram and out of nowhere, you like click the back button like twenty seven times because you've just been like clicking people's profiles notes. But that was probably to write a song or something. If you guys want to be doing music, and if it hadn't never entered your life. What do you think you'd be doing now? I probably wouldn't be doing now if I probably I want to know what
i'd be doing. To be honest, you do or don't want to Probably No, I don't know what I would be doing. All right? What was your question? That was a question. I thought I heard it wrong. I wanted to be an astronaut, so maybe i'd be doing that. My cousin's a space engineer. Yeah, and he literally like build umps. Yeah, that's really I think I'd be in college, probably studying business or something. Yeah, probably the same. I don't know where I'd be an architect. Do you like buildings? Yeah?
I was like about to go to college for architecture before I build a cool building and some going. Okay, math in a weird way. I know a lot of people hate math. I'm like, solve it and like what kind of math do you can even check it? I like like addition, like algebra, how do you learn how one set? I like calculus. I don't like geometry. Shapes
are just I don't even like that fundamentals. I could have gotten into math, but like the only thing was like when am I going to use these algorithms and stuff in my actual life, like your space an architect, very true, liked it now an architect if I don't go do calculus for fun, but I haven't grasped for path doing that. Yeah, but I understand that like that can like like learning how to do all that can advance your brain and you can learn how to do
other things, like yeah, yeah, that makes sense. If you're going to be a juror list you do not need to probably not. I think people need to like just remember that that high school and like college, it's only a certain amount of time because I like, figure out what you like and everyone gets so caught up in like, oh my god, these grades. But you know, hard work
does pay off good definitely. I mean, it definitely sets up your life the rest of your whole life if if that's what you want, like they're like, you can. I think that the US has its set up in a great way and probably a lot of other countries to where if you want to be a doctor, you can do that with your life, like you know what I mean. But but I feel like it can suck for some people. Just mom, but live in the moment.
I would say, like, don't like get too caught up in it, because like, yeah, the hard part is when you're doing the parts that you don't that you know you don't want to do. Yeah, you know, like if you're if you want to do math and you have all the science to that kind of sucks. But the thing is, honestly, like, if I look back in my senior year even of high school, I wanted to do a whole different things. So you never know. So that's
why you gotta give everything a chance. I feel like, because you might end up being like, oh, I actually don't want to do this. And if you invest everything into that one thing and then you're like, oh, I actually don't want to do this, kind of screw. What is your guy's goal as a band Grammys? Is it
to just remembers Like the Beatles? I would say, I'm not going to disregard the fact that we would love a hit because there's something magical about knowing you made a song that connects with like the world that's so sick.
So I think I think for us, like if we were to write and produce a song on our own in it to hit that maybe that's because we're such big Beatles fans that just that respect to them of like knowing they dated on their own just wait for the Especially today, it seems almost like harder to do
on your own because there's so much more out there now. Yeah, so that would be pretty crazy, I would say, like just like an overall goal, like you're talking about big picture, like big picture, like like just like just like to effect the most amount of people we can in a positive way with our music, I think is the best. And whether that's you know, getting hits like he's talking about, or getting Grammys or going around the world and playing
stadiums one day, like that would be insane. But like where whatever that looks like just the most amount of people that were capable of You guys already sold out Radio City Music Hall, which a Microsoft feater, Like that's just yeah, yeah, it's crazy. Next step Yeah yeah, you put it on the universe. Well, thank you guys so much for coming to my podcast. So happy. I'm so excited for the new album to come out. Whenever it does, it's coming, it's gonna it's gonna be it's gonna be out.
