Episode description

Have you ever found yourself in a major life transition with only a short time to catch your breath? Danielle shares some BIG news with with Lana and her listeners. She and her family have found themselves in just that; a major unexpected life transtion that she is srambling to keep up with. It's at once exciting, unfamiliar and certainly not going to be perfect. Even the best transtitions are an adjustment until the change becomes the new normal. With Lana's experience as a military wife, she helps Danielle break it down as they talk about the four steps to adjustment inspired by the U-curve hypothesis proposed by Norwegian sociologist Sverre Lysgaard.

“Adjustment as a process over time seems to follow a U-shaped curve: adjustment is felt to be easy and successful to begin with; then follows a ‘crisis’ in which one feels less well adjusted, somewhat lonely and unhappy; finally one begins to feel better adjusted again, becoming more integrated into the foreign community.”
