Episode description

Have you ever stopped to consider how extraordinarily privileged we are to be alive right now? In this thought-provoking episode, we explore the astonishing contrast between modern life and what came before.

Just imagine - penicillin wasn't discovered until 1928. Before that medical breakthrough, a simple tooth infection or infected wound could be fatal. Our parents and grandparents grew up without running water, electricity, or reliable communication systems. Messages traveled slowly between villages, water collection was a daily chore, and hardship was simply the norm. Meanwhile, we enjoy comforts that historical kings and queens couldn't dream of - air conditioning, instant global communication, food delivery, and modern medicine.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

Simple as that!

Welcome and Life's Modern Blessings

Speaker 1

Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore . You know something that's fun to ponder how good our lives are today , how good they are today . Think about it . We take so much for granted . Look , we can't , we kind of have to , we can't just be grateful for every single thing in every single moment .

But if you zoom out , if you zoom out and even just see what life was like a hundred years ago compared to now and you get to be alive today , how many blessings , advantages , conveniences you have , we live better today than royalty used to live no air conditioning , no showers , no internet , no Uber Eats Think about everything , all these privileges we have access

to today that make our lives so easy and good that even the richest among us or the most significant among us historically didn't have access to

Penicillin and Historical Perspective

. You know , this is a fun thing to ponder when you're thinking about the next best opportunity for you . I was listening to something recently and I heard gosh . I think I wrote down the date because I want to get it correct , but the year that ah yeah , penicillin was invented .

Penicillin was invented or discovered right in a Petri dish from some fruity peach in 1928 . So not even a hundred years ago , pre-penicillin . A tooth infection could take you out . It could be your death . Even if you had a wound on your body that was infected without penicillin , you could die from that . And this is not even 100 years ago .

Whenever I think about this , what we have access to , how lucky we are to be alive now , how we're living better than kings and queens used to live what I think what comes to me is am I taking advantage of everything ?

Am I really using this opportunity , this divine timing to be alive today , 2025 , with so much ease , with so much access , with so much possibility , or am I squandering it ? Am I complaining ? Am I wanting things to be better , hoping that they'll be different , focusing on all the things going on in the world that I don't like my friends to be alive now ?

My mom constantly tells me stories of how she was growing up in 1940 , in the 1940s in Poland , without running water , without electricity , walking a really long distance to school in the snow , with holes in her shoes . Think about how people used to have to collect water , how they used to communicate . Someone used to have to go to deliver

Information Overload: The Modern Paradox

a message across villages , across towns . Look at what we have access to , and I will also say that sometimes , too , this comes with a price . Sometimes it's not great to have all the information that we have available . We know everything that's going wrong in the world if we pop onto any new site , any new source , and we're not built for that .

Think about it Historically you know what's going on in your village or your town , what 200 people and now we know everything that's going on everywhere and we think that in order to be responsible , we have to always stay up to date with everything . I wonder how we can all make the best of , make the most of this time .

We're so lucky and blessed to be alive . I , even when I saw my mom recently , I was like mom , you know , podcasting what we , what we can create . Anybody can do this . I've said it a million times on this podcast before , but it's a Seth Godin quote that I love .

He says how dare you be ordinary when the world has made it so easy for you to be extraordinary

Tools for Extraordinary Living Today

? You can have your own TV show on YouTube . You can have your own podcast . You can self-publish a book on Amazon oh my gosh . You can reach millions of people on social media . If you pitch the media well , you can tap into oh my gosh , huge , loyal , engaged audience . We couldn't do that pre-printing . And when was a printing press invented ? The 1400s .

Look at how far we've come . Look at the rate of progress . Look at AI now , oh my gosh , if we're not using this tool , this incredible tool that's at our disposal and free , and not praising God for all of this now , I think we're really missing the magic of the moment . Yes , there's a downside . There always will be .

It's not healthy to have access to everything that's going on in the world and being bombarded with these messages . But how about the ways that we use it , what we're tapping into , what we are consciously choosing , what we're making the most of ? What a time to be alive , my friends . Are you making the most of
