Episode description

Feeling overwhelmed by the constant pressure to buy more, upgrade more, and have more? This episode challenges the consumption mindset that dominates our culture and offers a refreshing alternative: finding joy in what you already possess.

We dive deep into the art of rediscovery – those forgotten books on your shelf, clothes pushed to the back of your closet, online courses you paid for but never completed, and even ingredients languishing in your pantry. Each represents not just a possession, but an opportunity for joy that requires no additional spending.

The concept might sound simple, but it represents a profound shift in thinking. When we purchase things only to let them gather dust, we violate what I call "the law of use" – nothing is created merely to provide a temporary dopamine hit at the point of purchase. By redirecting our attention from acquisition to appreciation, we can find immediate satisfaction while honoring our past choices.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

Simple as that!

Introduction to feeling better now

Speaker 1

Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore . Let's talk about a way that you can start to feel a little better , no matter how you feel already , but how you can feel a little bit better right now . It's very simple . I love to do this .

I actually have to remind myself to do this , because we're not really encouraged to do what it is I'm about to tell you to do . Okay , we definitely

The age of consumption problem

, for sure . I think I can't imagine anyone would refute this . We live in an age of consumption . It's buying more , having more , more . More more is better . Everything bigger , everything newer , everything flashier . But what if , even though we're bombarded with advertising , we're bombarded with what everybody else is doing ?

We're constantly seeing our need for upgrades in every area of our lives ? What if we decided , at least for today , at least for this week , maybe even at least for this month , we don't need more , nothing , we don't need more .

And one way that you can implement this to start to feel better now and even to have fun right now , exactly where you are with what you have is to use what you

Using what you already have

have .

I can't tell you how many times I've had to actually physically move , move locations , move apartments , move cities , move countries to remember how much I have , the accessories that are tucked away , the stuff that I don't see , the stuff at the back of the kitchen cupboards like , oh I forgot I had this nice little crystal that was a gift , doesn't this ?

I mean , when you think about it , what you've already accumulated and acquired in your life , even if it doesn't feel like a lot compared to other people . I would say , from my own experience , most of us have more than we think .

So , instead of jumping to purchase something which I know is an easy way to get a quick dopamine hit , an easy way to feel a bit better , what if you use what you have ? Here are some examples Books you already have on your shelf . Read them , reread them .

I can't tell you how many memes I see about people who buy books and they're like they're piling up and I'll get to them one day . And then we keep purchasing more and more . Read what you have , read what's on the shelf . I bet you're a book lover if you like this podcast , and there are some books on your shelf on your Kindle , on your iPad .

However , you consume in your audio book library that you haven't consumed yet . You simply haven't . But of course , that ego , that part of us that wants more , more , more , is like oh , I need a new book . Oh , I need to go check out Amazon . I need , I need what ?

If you have your next perfect read already , you just need to remind yourself that it's there . It's the same thing when it goes to , when it comes to clothes wearing what you already have .

Look , I know this one's tricky , because it's very exciting to get a new outfit , but really imagine someone brand new comes to your home and is going through your rack , is going through your sweaters , is going through your shorts , your summer dresses .

The law of use principle

I'm sure you've got some cool items that if you saw them in a store right now , you'd go oh , I need that , I want that . That's cute . But it's so easy for us to forget what it is we already possess . What if you just went through your closet and you found a few things that you could wear in completely fresh ways ? It feels almost new .

People might even comment on it . You're like oh , I forgot I had this green top . Oh , I forgot I had this pair of shoes . Oh , I forgot about this belt , I forgot about this bag . I forgot about jewelry too . Wear what you have read what you have , wear what you have .

And when it comes to even something like wanting to sharpen your skills in a certain area , I am so thrilled and grateful . We live in this age of online education , where so much is available to us and we get to really have a university in our living room . We have access to so much , so many incredible teachers and courses and programs and memberships .

But before you even dive into another one , is there one that you've not logged into yet ? Do you have a course , maybe some form of membership , access to something that you've purchased that you've never logged into ? Or maybe you haven't logged into in a year or more ? And , ooh , that information's pretty great .

It is just waiting for you , begging you , saying come this way , look this way , don't look over there , don't look over there , come on home . You've got me , let's begin . I've done this . I did this recently with a , with a YouTube program that I joined . It was a group coaching program and I forgot I've got access to so much incredible content .

Yes , I can continue to learn and I always want new and fresh material , but I already have some of the best teaching out there that I've already paid for . What about you ? This is how you can feel good now without spending a dollar .

This is how you can feel good now by using what you have , and if we possess things and we don't use them , it violates the law of use . Nothing is created to just sit there and gather dust . Nothing exists just for a temporary moment of pleasure at the point of purchase , only just to be tossed to the back of your closet .

Where can you use what you have ? Also , go through your pantry . I was given some really fancy olive oil a flavored olive oil at an event once and I was looking for something else and I was like oh , why have I never used this ? This could inspire a whole new , simple dinner that I could cook .

My friends , use what you have , dm me what comes up for you . I'm at suzymore on Instagram Until tomorrow . My friends , so much
