Stop Auditioning. Start Living.

It's the show that gets everybody almost in the sense of community talking about the characters , talking about the plot , guessing the ending , looking for all the Easter eggs in the White Lotus episodes , you know , based on what the director is thinking and doing . And look , it is a artfully beautifully done show .

So for me it's no surprise that it's so popular and we can relate so much to it and we love talking about it .

I have to tell you that during the season three release , which happened in , I think , march , April , of course , you see all over the media , all over social media , different snippets of the characters being interviewed on various shows , various podcasts , morning shows , late night shows , and there is

a snippet of Walton Goggins . Is that his name ? Walton Goggins ? I'm pretty sure that's his name . I'm going to say it out loud Walton Goggins , he's the character who plays Rick in the White Lotus . No spoilers here . We're not here to talk about the show . We're talking about him specifically and his interview . That inspired me the clip that I heard .

He is definitely a standout character in this show . He's had a long career and when he was being interviewed , he was talking about auditioning . And this is applicable to all of us . Okay , because even though many of us may not be in the entertainment industry , we can go through our lives as if we are always , always auditioning .

We're not showing up for the main event as us , we're thinking that can come later . I have to keep auditioning , I have to keep performing , I have to keep giving other people the version of me that they want .

So what he said in this clip and I loved it so much was he said you know , when I started just really being myself in auditions , so much took off .

He's like I used to go to and look , I'm paraphrasing here , you can probably find the clip but he said something like you know , I was going to auditions again and again and again , constantly thinking what do they want from me ? Who do I need to be so that I'm chosen ? What do you know ? What does this casting director ? What do they want from me ?

And the reality is and he said this there are a million different ways that you can interpret a character .

I remember watching this YouTube clip which was Rachel McAdams audition for the Notebook , and apparently Britney Spears was interviewed for that role , a lot of different actresses but she really brought this emotion and this fight and this passion and the way that , if you it's actually a fun , fun for you to to YouTube Rachel McAdams notebook audition , you just see

she's showing up . She's bringing who she believes , what's her name Ali Ali in the notebook . She's bringing who she thinks Allie is and who she thinks Allie should be on screen and she just embodies it her way . Even as an actor or actress with prescribed lines , with prescribed costume , with hey , go in as this person , that isn't really you .

You can still interpret it your way . Bring the real , you , your own touch , your own ideas , your own creativity , bring it , then see what happens . But Walton Goggins is basically saying look , I decided that I would just bring myself to interpret it the way I wanted

. Show up in the way that I think is right and appropriate and fun and real for me as this character and his career took off . Are you diluted , are you ? Oh , I wish I could say that quirky thing , but I won't because it might be weird , so I'll just hold back ? Or do you have a dream to say something or create something or launch something ?

But hey , you know the space is pretty conservative if you notice the other peers in that group right now . So you should like you should appear a little bit more , a bit more polished and quiet in terms of how you appear , a bit more polished and quiet in terms of how you appear , my friends .

Are you bringing the real you to life , to your work , to your relationships , to your friendships , to your projects ? Are you bringing the real full , you interpreting it , showing up in a way that feels like , yes , this is me , I'm doing it my way . Or are you thinking how can I give other people what they want ?

How can I show up in a way that other people feel comfortable and feel like , yes , okay , that is appropriate behavior ? You know what he said , too , in this clip that just stuck with me . He said you know what ? Not only when I showed up as myself was it more fun . And of course , I got chosen . So much unfolded for him , he said .

But even if I wasn't chosen , I could live with myself . I could live with myself . He said it was my salvation being myself , because , imagine this , plenty of people go through life constantly auditioning and still don't get picked right . We're contorting ourselves to be what other people want and we don't have the life that we value . We don't have the outcome .

We can't be fulfilled because

we're not really us . Our dreams can only come true when we're true to ourselves , because our dreams come from our heart . And if we're not being the real us , how can anything happen ? Let your dreams find you by being you . What if that's your salvation ?

And no matter what , when we are ourselves , even though it feels uncomfortable sometimes , even though we might go , oh , is this okay ? Even though we might not get what we want all the time , who does ? We can live with ourselves because we know we are the real us . How awful to go through life and then one day go gosh , if I was just myself .

Wow , if I just didn't hold back , if I was showing up as the real me . And I also would encourage you to spend time , even just a few moments , thinking about people you love and admire . Someone like I don't know , maybe it's Lady Gaga , maybe it's someone like Walton Goggins , maybe it's an author who you think is really unique and different .

I'm guessing the reason you love , revere , admire , enjoy them is because maybe they're not perfect , maybe they're not like everybody else , and that's why you love them , because the number one thing that they are is just true to themselves . Oh , there's nothing more magical than really being real . Is there until tomorrow , my friends ? So much love and ease .
