Chuck Zack, Kevin Carpenter. We're Mondayin. Looking good. Looking sharp. Chuck's like he's going to not going to a wedding. Just already been with a wedding. Oh, no, no. This is this is my downgrade from wedding attire. Yeah. Oh, I was black tie in wedding.

This is banquet attire. Do you feel like d does it make you feel what? More um You know, back in the day in my industry in pharmaceuticals. Yes. You know, in the nineties, mid two thousands, you wore suit. Yeah. Which was the dumbest thing ever because doctors don't wear suits. Well, they wear their their they have their own uniform, if you will. So you gotta look professional. That was your uniform. Yeah. It's awful. Especially in the summer.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the the jacket. It's uh I mean I could've, but uh you know. It's too much. But you know with young people now it's Dress coat. I mean somebody just got out of bed. No, it's it's awful. Go to school. They're wearing their pajamas and their and their fuzzy slippers. Yeah. Yes. I don't know. It's it's we've lost

We we've y and as you said, y it's too hot in the summer, so the coat's annoying and we shouldn't have stupidest thing we did. Yeah. And w we are now on the pendulum of back and forth of comfort. Style. Yeah. We're way over here on comfort. I mean we're we're lost on the style end. I mean, I'm the ultimate get off my lawn, old man. You are. But yeah, kids today. Here it is. Yeah, I mean He's darn kids today. Kids don't own pants or They don't own pants. Blue jeans. Well they own that. Pants.

They were shorts and a hoodie. Yeah. Comfort. And I don't get that either. It's you'll see. In July they'll have a hoodie in. I bet that smells really nice. So For all of you under thirty, we apologize. For all of you over forty, you're like, Yeah, they're done right. I told my kids Dress every day like you might meet somebody that's gonna be interviewing you and offer you a job. You never know. So I walked in today, right? Our our sales team up front.

All young ladies, all dress nice. Good. They're out on the road doing what they do. They're out there trying to sell some radio advertising. Which by the way, if you're interested, you could certainly sponsor this show. Yeah. Yeah. Thousands of people listen to the show. Or watch it. Or watch it. Or rewind it. Hundreds of thousands. No, not that. Hundreds is more like it. But either even so, all of them did this thing.

What you so dressed up for today? It kinda hurt my feelings. Like I'm like Where's the compliment? Where's the moo you look good today? But it's more like what are you doing dressed up? So it makes me feel like I gotta do this more often. Then it will be com commonplace, then they won't have that visceral reaction. I can I can dress up in the winter.

Yeah. Coat and a tab. Yeah. Get ready. You know did you see Wednesday? I saw that. Ninety eight on Wednesday. Get you some of that. That rain that blew through today, that was the end of that little cold front. Tailing behind it is Summer. It's officially summer. Record high Wednesday, they're talking about. My goodness. I I don't I'm not ready for that. No. Seventies were feeling warm to me. It may be because it was so muggy.

Ninety eight's just gonna be outrageous. Um happy late Mother's Day. But you know, we went to church yesterday and it was a little nippy outside. Yeah, what see what I mean? I wore a vest a little Did you? Yeah, I looked cute, yeah. Stylish vest? Yeah, it's a like a golf, you know. Okay. It said Texas on it, of course.

So it wasn't that stylish, is what you're trying to say. Hey Fallon, I see you. I saw you saw you at church singing in the choir, Fallon. Hey, Fallon. We saw ya. All right. Was she wearing a vest? My eyes are bad. I couldn't see it. Oh, but you saw her, but you couldn't see the vest. Hopefully not. Hopefully it wasn't a longhorn vest. They were you know I didn't want to do this today. It's okay. I wanted to wait. I don't want to do this. I wanna I want to do happy things first.

Then we'll come back around to then we'll come back around to the lost weekend for the hogs, the horns and the eggs. And the eggs may as well just mail in the rest of the year'cause they're done. But we'll come back around to them. We've got some we got some positive

Localer localer. More local. More localized things to do. Yeah. So number one, nine o'clock, I believe it is tonight. A and M Techana Women's Softball, Williamsburg, Kentucky, Round One N A I A. Championship tournament. They're in their brackets. So they're bracketing. Yeah, there's a live stream on it. You can go to the Tamouti or you can 9 PM? I think it's nine. I think that's what I saw. Anyway, they're playing tonight.

So we're wishing them well. Go on. Well, you know, I'm gonna have to stay up and have it. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Uh so that's one. two and tomorrow's guest. Oh yeah coach uh uh Andrew Mashburn from Arkansas High. And he may bring some guys with him. Bring'em. His baseball team finished the year out strong. Strongly. Yeah. And has made their way into the state five A baseball tournament. Yeah. They open play on Thursday. Where is that? Benton. Okay.

As do the Arkansas High Lady Razorback softball team. And do they if they win that, do they go to Fayetteville? Do they don't play the championship series in Pl Fayetteville? Uh I don't I didn't go that far. I don't we'll ask him. That's why he's here tomorrow. Yeah, it's it's why he's here tomorrow. Good, good. Yeah. I know Janoa's going too, I believe.

See they're w they always are going though. That's kinda like I hate to say it like that, but they're like P G and LA lately. They always go. But Arkansas got uh baseball and softball. Both first round games are Thursday. So we're we're doing our best to try to get uh uh at least uh Mashburn in to talk about his guys. He can throw some stuff out at for the girls as well. Yeah. Um Rough weekend for Arkansas High baseball. Former player passed away this weekend. Um

Jalen Betts. I didn't know that. Passed away this this weekend. Okay. So uh anyway, we're gonna get uh Mashburn on here. We'll talk about that uh tomorrow. Wednesday, Ross Cowling's coming in. Tonight, five thirty, they're dedicating the Mickey Moore field over at Spring Lake Park. That's all.

And so uh I think the entire L E baseball team is gonna be over there for the dedication of of the uh field for Mickey and um he's gonna be in here Wednesday and we'll talk about the upgrades going on at Spring Lake Park, including that field and others as uh they get ready to host some more Summer tournaments. Or um is AM gonna play over there next year? I don't know.

I don't I don't know. Like I said, they need they need to shorten the field a little bit. Yeah, I don't know what the we'll see. Rock Ross's gonna be in here Wednesday. We'll get to do all that. Rain delay. I mean on rainy days. I don't see why ANM Until their new one's built. Until their new one's built. Yeah. Yeah.'Cause their new one will be built on campus. Yeah. And then that conversation will be no more.

Three. Three? Yeah, yeah. Pleasant Grove golfers. Oh yeah. Load of them heading down to Austin this week. Yep. I think five. Is that right? Five golfers going down for the uh state uh as a team you take five. Yeah, yeah. But I think they've got uh if I remember right, I think it was five. I think it's the most they've ever taken down. Wow, okay. Um but anyway, they're going down for uh a chance to represent it state. Dang. Uh number four.

Pleasant Grove's baseball team who went whooshing through Henderson. Yeah. Henderson get a run? I think they lost ten oh eleven oh or vice versa, eleven oh ten oh. I think it was eleven oh thirteen. Oh thirteen oh. I ripped him off a run or two. Yeah, it was. Uh Henderson got embarrassed. Next up is Frisco Panther Creek. Panther Creek. And if you know Frisco, you know they build a school every year. And they usually always go in as five.

So I'm wondering Guess what probably when the alignment came out two years ago they were at four A level. So I'm telling you, last year they may have had a thousand other students. move in. So I would love to see the n their actual numbers. Yeah, I don't know. Because you don't realign UI L doesn't realign every year. Two years. Every every two years. Yeah. So does AAA. Yeah. American side. So they'll

They'll be they'll have five A numbers, but that that doesn't mean anything. I mean it's un if it's who they get next. And they're in Mount Vernon. Yeah. Three games Friday night and Saturday. I have not called a game in Mount Vernon in baseball. I've called one in basketball recently. So if anybody knows, they've improved their fit time I've been there. Yeah, yeah. 'Cause I wouldn't want to play a T ball game at their old place. Okay. No. Shirley Fincher knows fine five.

L E plays in round three this weekend as well. Um they got talking about Mickey. His son Maddox. He's on fire, isn't he? Oh my goodness. God. So Thursday I was able to still be in town and do the game against Tatum down at Panola. We'll circle back to that in just a minute. That was a good trip. No, it wasn't bad. Um He came in in relief in the fourth. They got guys who are a little bit bulky armed right now and they're trying to get him healthy and so

Zach Fowler really leaned heavily on Tristan Howe and Maddox Moore. So Maddox came in in relief of Tristan. And threw shutout ball for three and two thirds, but managed to get through this is stupid. Got through three and two thirds with less than forty pitches having been thrown. Yeah. Like thirty-four. So he came back for game two the next day. He still had seventy-six pitches left.

He threw a complete game shutout using sixty seven pitches on Saturday. They didn't have to go to the bullpen. They got to rest all the arms that were a little bulky that needed another week off. Yeah. He had been struggling with the bat, got a big hit on f on Thursday night right before the home run, the first one the Leopards had all year, and then had two more hits on Saturday or Friday night rather, excuse me.

And who do they have next? They uh have uh Whitesboro. Whitesboro. And they're playing all three games in Paris. Beginning Friday night and then potentially doubleheader Saturday. Now the bad news, if you are folks who like to watch the streaming on game day, ain't happening. Why? No internet. In Paris. Paris's new baseball field has no reliable internet to upstream the kind of things you need for uh for uh streaming video. And so um

It's radio only this week. So I'm going down there I'm I'm going down Friday and the game day folks are gonna go down there shooting shots and doing what they do, but they're just not gonna be able to upstream do live stream of the game just because it'll never hold. So And Pleasant Grove will only be on game day.

We don't have a radio thing. So you it's it's it's a good news, bad news thing. It's they're still playing, but uh you're not getting any live stream of that. So it is what it is. Yeah. And and to be honest with you Round four, if Ellie and Gunter both win, by the way, they're numbers one and three in the state. Yeah. Gunter's about in the same neighborhood as Whitesboro. They may be in back in Paris. Gunter's playing this week in commerce, so they could be somewhere between there.

Sulfur Springs possibly. Sulfur Springs has a good place. Well they got internet. Um there's press boxes way back off the field. Harris is it. I mean sulfur springs. It's way back off the field and there is no electricity at all around the fence to use at the field. So it's not actually a great setup either. No, none of none of these parks

None of these parks are set up thinking we're gonna have any of our games broadcast. They're just not. Remember we used to play so much at uh Northeast Texas and Mount Pleasant? Yeah. What a great place to watch baseball. That's a great that's a great venue. Yeah. I don't know if it's turf, but you don't need turf really. And and you may get You may get home and home kind of things or home neutral kind of things. Yeah. Where, you know, the folks at at uh Gunter may say

Roy City. And the folks at LE might say Mount Pleasant. Something like that. I don't know. Just to cut the travel down a little bit. Yeah. I don't know what they're gonna do if they make round four. I gotta do that first. But there's a ton of games this week, beginning tonight, a bunch on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You got baseball and softball and some golf. going on all over our area. So yeah. Big week. Go Teetown. Yeah.

And we can talk uh you know, Riley Fincher's kind of had the same thing. He hadn't had to use his pitchers. No. So I mean, he's using them, but um Hunter Rose threw I think three innings. Then halter threw one and Ben Carpenter threw one. I mean it was uh Yeah, and we gotta come back and talk more about them in just a minute. We got music plans, so we'll we'll come back and do that. Well, I gotta circle you back around a panola as well.

They get the uh Colorado Rockies, I believe, and their m new managers maybe they can get Rangers can get back on track. Even though they won the last two. Yeah, they won two. But uh they they beat up Detroit, but uh Colorado Got rid of Bud Black after they lost twenty one to nothing on Saturday. Yeah, it's not good. They had had a bad week. Yeah, and and your manager gets fired. Here's the thing not to defend Bud Black. I don't have any dog in the fight for Bud Black.

But they are a m major league worst. I think seven and thirty, four, something like that. The last week their pitching was like eleven, twelve, thirteen, fifteen, and twenty-one. And the manager gets fired. Yeah. Cause the pitchers can't get any out. So whatever. Uh again, I got no love for Bud Black and I get it when you're when you have the second worst forty game start in major league modern major league history, your manager's gonna get it. I think major league managers might be the

God dunno if I can say it. Least important of the major three. But f I think football is most important. Basketball Okay. In the NBA I don't think an NBA coach does a whole lot. Okay. College I think they do. But a major league baseball manager, you put the you pencil in the best players and then it's up to them to

You make the pitching changes. They keep up with outs. They know the situation. Well, you say that. Some of them are knuckleheads. They have hitting coaches and so but a lot of times it's just the logic. Which are managing the game. That take Texas AM, for example.

Oh boy. Coaching matter and the young man that's coaching AM right now. Well and and that the words right now are and did you see where uh Jeff former big leaguer Jeff Kent You know, Jeff Kent played with Barry. Has a kid that plays for Anim. And apparently he told somebody that the locker room is a disaster. That it's gone. It's the inmates run the asylum. Yeah, they got it's gone. And he's he has no can't get him to do anything. Okay. So they they go

They go Missouri. They get Missouri winless Missouri. Yeah. 0-24 in conference play. Yeah. They had some wins, but it was in, you know, pre pre conference play. They score six. In the ninth. To beat the Aggies in the first game of this three game series. And that was the good game for the Aggies. Because it all went downhill from there. They got embarrassed this weekend.

And to the point I think they're ten and sixteen now in conference play or something like that, ten and seventeen. They're you know officially out. There will not be this and this may be the first time the preseason number one ranked team doesn't even make the world serious. I mean they may have some amazing finish, but I don't see'em getting in there. Two weeks ago they were

baseball or America or somebody had'em as a three seed. Yeah, before they ran in the horns. Yeah. And then Horns swept'em and it's all been downhill. Yeah. So Yeah, you can't recover from Missouri. You know, if you're If you're a me and Lynn Hamm, it's only t well the halters. My bruh. The only Texas fans in Tex Ricana. Ah, there's more. There's four or five. Uh if you're an Aggie fan, you're not even saying that out loud now. And Texas is

Could have won the SEC outright with one more they just need one more win and Arkansas loss. Yeah. Right now they're tied with Arkansas. So let's say Texas loses three And Arkansas loses three, which that won't happen. Then they tie for the SEC championships. No. No, no, no, no. Tango. Arkansas'd have to win. Arkansas would have to win. One of the three. Yeah, yeah. Which Arkansas goes to

Somebody pretty good, I forget. I don't know. Yeah, Texas is it Florida is it their time for Florida? Maybe. Te and Florida's pretty good. No, it's not Florida because Florida played Arkansas two weeks ago. That's right. Uh, Texas goes to Oklahoma. Okay. And which is which they're pretty good. I gotta say, uh it's it's a rivalry thing. Yeah. I'm not counting a a series win over the Sooners just yet, just because the Sooners are you know

Why not? But the Aggies are just a train wreck and you said the manager they have right now, he ca he can't survive this. Oh no no. He can't survive and I'm almost surprised they didn't do it today. I I I'm almost surprised they didn't come out today and say Yeah. When e when the when the you know when you open up the locker room today, you need to come see the athletic director. Yeah.

I'm I'm shocked they didn't do it today. And I know it's still the the season's still going on, but I don't know how you have any hope of recovering from that. Well But you can't lose to Missouri. And you can't lose three games. No. You can lose one. You can say, Oh my God, you know, the bullpen blew up. That game was an aberration. It was who knew? We're we're better than that. We we recovered and won the next two games and okay, that's that looks bad. But it happens. But you get swept.

Did uh did you see the Texas freshman at bat? Jonah Williams. Did you say that? No. Yeah, well, you've got to be bragging on this kid for a while. He's the basketball guy, right? Okay. Right? No, he's a football guy. Football. Football guy, sorry. Like he probably will start in football. Okay. He's eight he should be in high school right now playing in the High school playoffs. Okay. But he's starting for Texas in left field. So Texas is down eight to one late in the game. All right.

He comes to the plate and he's jawing with the pitch. Really? Pitcher throws a ball, he's jawing at the pitcher. Really? Jawing at the catcher. Love it. And it goes on for about six pitches. Pitcher walks him, he's talking and Shaw Snagel had to come out. And get him and say, Home homie, chill out Homie. Anyway It went viral. It was on I saw it on a different baseball guy's uh Instagram pages, but he uh Made a fool of himself. So Schlossnagel The next day he said I love.

He go, there is a There's a time and a place to to be But you're baseball has so many unwritten rules. Right. Football and basketball, they can do that. You can do it. Somebody'll knock you on your face at the end of it. Baseball, you can't do it. When you're down eight one or if you're up eight one. You don't jaw at the pitcher and when you walk, you don't throw the bat and anyway, he uh so if you're down four one, can you talk smack?

No, I don't know. Oh, yep, four one. So that's this is my problem with baseball's unwritten rules. Because eight one, it's bad form. Yeah. At at four one. It's still a kind of a game. Yeah. You'd think, you know, I I'm gonna go out there throw me a strike. You can't throw a strike. You come on, throw it to me. Come on, you can't even throw. That's what he was doing. Right. That's what he was doing. Right. I mean and I get it down eight one. I'm trying to fire up my team. See if

I'll I give the Florida pitcher a lot of credit. I would have drilled him in the back. No question. Anybody but the kids But see what would've happened then? He would have got ejected. And he would have missed the next game. And

Probably uh horns would have had to hit somebody for the gators. And then exactly. That would I mean that's the unwritten rules of this, right? It starts as one thing and then we gotta it's like the uh World War One alliances. Yeah. We got all these things and we got a war. Me and you get that. Most people don't. I get it. No nobody gets it, but me and you get it. Ah, the smart people up there get it. But anyway, it's the oh I'm the old guy get off my lawn.

Uh I don't think you act like that, but going back to the way kids dress now. I know I sound I sound like my dad, but They act they're different. In college, I watch it every week. You hit a home run, you spin, you throw the bat, you point at the dugout, you do the it's not the hook what is what is that? It's not hook'em horns if you see it on Watch, they do that when they round second base. That's the rock and roll. Yeah, I guess so, maybe.

You th I think they're intending to do Hookem Horton, isn't that what they're intending? They yell at the pitcher and the second baseman and they just hit a two run home run in the third inning. You know, what kind of game? Twelve to one? Any c inny score. That's what they do. And they do it in the big leagues too. I don't mind Look okay, I'll do this part. I don't mind toss the bat. Yeah. I don't mind twirl. I don't mind yell at my dugout. Yeah, yeah. I don't mind if I'm ho hooking horns.

I don't want you yelling at the other team though. Yeah. That to me there's the line. Celebrate and don't embarrass. Celebrate your guy, your thing, don't embarrass that guy. That's my line of Where I think it's it's all good. But But I'm not as old school. Jimmy Phillips may say something different. Oh I know what he would say. He pay he may say, no, you don't do you get lower your head and run around the bases. Yeah, Fincher, the coaches around here wouldn't allow that.

No, but they're high school. High school kids, they're they do it a little bit, but it's not uh it's not stand at the play. I used to love when Reggie Jackson would hit a home run. And he'd hit it, stand it sling the bat down, he would look at it. Now and then take off. If Jimmy Phillips is listening, oh he is listening. Look at him. I was there the night he hit a home run at George Dobson Field.

That hit the top of the light pole. Longest home run I've ever seen in person. Did he twirl? He never left the box until the ball. Oh, so he watched it for a while. He he Cadillac. I mean they're ten games behind the Cubs and I know we've only played thirty, thirty five games and ten out's a fairly large number after thirty five games, but They're a young team and they're he they're starting slow but I I don't know if the players had any voice in this or if management looked at it and said, These guys should be better. We've put young talent on the field. They oughta be winning games.

We think it's managers I hope they didn't ask the players. Uh I wouldn't think they would'cause I don't know there's too many You know, it's not like this is a World Series type team yet and they've got a couple of old guys who have the ear of the clubhouse and we're not what we were and he's kinda l This is a young, young team. That's what we've been doing all ye that's what we that's been the conversation all year. It's only the state championship. Well I've done I guess I was asleep during that. Yeah, no, you gotta find neutral sites. So one and two and three and four are now gonna be the automatic matchups. In the regional, excuse me, in the state semifinals. You just play a championship game in Round Rock. It used to be, and for those who don't know this, it used to be when the four regional winners were announced.

They looked at the winning percentages of one and two. So let's say you were thirty-five and two, and the next guys were thirty-two and five, and and three and four were twenty-eight and nine and twenty-seven and ten. So one and two would flip a coin to decide which one won, and they got their choice of which of the lesser two teams they were going to play in the semifinal.

Now there's none of that. That's out of the th the mix now. You can look at region one and say, uh I can see already this is who we're probably gonna see. You don't have to worry about oh my god, if we don't have this winning per like PG and Ellie are both what, thirty and four, something like that. They I think they each have four losses. Probably would be if not number one, number two, and be in the coin flip. Yeah. And maybe able to pick a weaker opponent out of someplace else.

Yeah. Not anymore. You get this and it is what it is. I had no idea. So it would be somewhere in the Metroplex. That's what I think. You know, unless it's somebody in Fort Worth, then you could maybe play in Oh gosh. But see you got now you gotta have a big enough venue to deal with a state semi final thing. Yeah. I did not know that. Yeah. Wow. Whole new world we live in. So I was gonna make my reservations for the tournament in Round Rock, which is Austin. You're gonna get a game. One game.

Okay. Which in the past, I mean having gone down there and and had the semifinal and lost. Yeah. And had turned around and come back anyway, there's no w that's to me is the worst feeling ever. Here's the one part about this I actually like. To get to the state final, you still got a best of three series.

Yeah. You don't have a one like you didn't drive five hours down to Austin. Good point. You're on the field where the championship game would be played and you lose the game before and all your fans who took off for two, three days Yeah. And you got a six thirty start time and you're done at nine o'clock. Okay.

You're stuck in town, you drive out the next day and go home. And I've left after the game and driven back home that night. That's brutal. It is brutal. You drive down in the morning, you drive back that night. The semifinal would be best two out of three. Yeah. Okay.

Well who's good in region one and four eight? I hadn't looked that far. I hadn't looked that for. But it's not usually Region One you got to worry about. No, it's region three. It's region three or four sometimes. Mikal Allen. And China Springs are both on that end of the bracket. They're in three and four. Yeah. So for if you hadn't paid attention this weekend Salina's done. Yeah. They lost a coin flip. Yeah.

So Panola College baseball facility is not on the campus. It's about three, four miles away at some park. Bunch of freaking T ball games going on all around us. So anyway, coach of Panola College, and he may be somebody's good friend. No offense. Yeah, I don't have any friends.

No offense. If you if you like the guy, I'm I'm whatever. So we get in this press box, right? I open the here's my mistake. I open the door to the press box. He's like, No, you can't be in here. I'm like, radio. And I was doing the game for game day. But I'm saying, well, I'm a radio doing the game. Nope. Can't be in the press box. I said, wait a minute. It's the press box.

He said, Nope, gotta be outside on the landing. So they got this three window press box. And what I mean by that is seats about six or eight people. It's that big. Nobody in it. He's in it. And some other kids in it. And nobody else can be in it. The game day folks went to try to plug their stuff in. They couldn't go in to plug their cord in. They had to hand him the cord so he could plug it in because you can't go in his press box.
