Welcome to leaders moment by ethics missions, podcasting. We encourage you to take a moment to sharpen the saw of your leadership perspective and performance. We're bringing you interviews and stories of leaders, much like yourself who are taking action, learning, realizing potential and getting results. Hi, Scott McClelland here for FX missions podcasting and yes, I have a special guest today and none other than the famed podcast producer. Yes, ladies and gentlemen. It's Brian Ensminger. Brian.
Welcome.
Thank you.
Thanks Scott, man. I appreciate you getting on here with me. We've got kind of a special episode here and it's going to be brief. I know you were wanting more just when we're giving you less. I apologize for that folks, but we did have kind of a little housekeeping episode. We wanted to share with you about some changes coming to the leadership moment. We just want to get on here together and give you a kind of a heads up. Are you still there? I'm still
here.
I'm being silly, but Hey, we're having fun, which is kind of the main thing we've been talking about this Brian for a while and yeah. What are the changes? What kind of scope of changes are we talking about? For one, we're talking about some rebranding, we're going to cover that. And for number two, we're talking about, instead of chopping up all the episodes, Consolidating all of these chop ups into a single podcast. I think that's what we're talking about.
This, those, the rebranding piece, and then the length of the forum. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds right. That
sounds right to me. And do you want to talk maybe a little bit about why we originally tried the chopping it up method, the reasoning behind the way it was, and then maybe we'll share some of the thought process around what we're going to. You and I both spent some good, critical thinking time going, what do we want to do from this show? You as the show runner and me is sort of the right hand, man, kind of guy that going, Hey, let's think about this. Or how can we make this happen?
So why originally were you targeting a 15 to 20 minutes?
Well, we're trying to make it brief the moment aspect of it. Now, if you can remember way back, Brian, how far back can we remember at the Genesis story of the leadership moment you were there? Observed I was hovering over the podcast. I'm being silly. I'm pretty sure
that analogy is going to go sideways pretty quick.
I'm having fun today, Brian. I never get you on the podcast, but way back in the day originally, the leadership moment was called the leadership. Dear
member. I do. And I remember specifically why that was because when this first started out, you didn't really have an intention to start your own show. You were just producing a segment for my show and because it was going in at what I would call kind of a station break spot, even though it wasn't a station break, we wanted to keep it to that one to two minute timeframe. So that we could keep the interview flowing. Right?
And then as you got further into it, you said, well, Hey, wait a minute, I've got more than a minute to share, buddy. Let's spin this off into its own thing. And so that's what we did. And it was really trying to target that bite-size thing, I think, right?
Yeah. Something just punchy that's useful, but not necessarily lengthy. And that was the original original format. And then we said, ah, we can do this. And you know, we might need 10 minutes. We're going to spin it out into its own podcast when you're going from one. To 10 minutes. It seems like you've got eternity, but as things have gone on, we. It has not had an attorney answer all that we've had originally. It was more of a monologue to no interview component. That
was one of the things I wanted to bring up is also, it's generally easier to keep a monologue short, but a co-hosted show or a show. That's an interview. You really have to either be very intentional about exactly how you conduct the interview or the show. Or you have to spend a lot of time deciding what to keep and what to cut. And I know your heart is always to keep as much as you possibly can because you want to preserve the guests.
Yes, very true. So this is how the evolution has happened from the leadership minute to the leadership moment. Now we have something that's more moments and the feedback that I've gathered from people who routinely listened to us and routinely listened to podcasts. It's pretty simple for them.
To pause the show where they are, if they're arriving at their destination and listening in the car, or if they run out of opportunity to listen, they can just come back to the show and rejoined the thought sometimes when you're cutting up the podcast, you're sacrificing continuity and maybe only a certain number of people get back to the second show and even fewer to the third. Is that what you've
noticed? I've noticed that. And I think one of the other things that's a little bit different is when I commute to work, which hasn't happened in a couple of years, it's easy for me to pause and come back and I can genuinely remember where I was, but when we forced that pause to be two weeks, it makes it that much harder because. 14 days that have passed.
And so from not only from what I've heard anecdotally from the times when I tried cutting my show up, but then also as we looked at the stats and as you reached out for feedback, it became pretty clear. People would like to be in control of how they consume the episode, whether they want to do it in one sitting or in a couple, they don't want us to decide for them. I think that's what I took away.
That's a direct hit on the impression that I got as well. So with that in mind, we've got a couple of changes that we are planning to implement right away. The next show after this one is going to feature the enhancements. And we'd love to hear some feedback from folks how they feel about this and how it strikes them. Obviously we're making some changes, but we want to continue to change and evolve as things become necessary or as the condition changes.
So. Monthly instead of biweekly show is the format we're looking to follow, you know, even long-winded people can get stuff done in about 45 minutes or at least that's what it seems like. Brian, what have you noticed? I
mean, I've noticed it can go pretty widely depending on who it is and what they're talking
about. That's a very kind answer.
Yes. But as I look at what you generally provide you and the guests that you're working with, we typically get something in terms of raw audio. That's between 45 and 55 minutes. And by the time we're done, it's usually somewhere between 40 and 50 minutes. And so I would expect that to be the case. And I would say that's even been consistent with your other show that from the forefront pod, Right where you are doing long form interviews.
You typically come in, in that range sometimes a little shorter, sometimes a little bit longer, but from like an expectation standpoint, I would say that's what I would be looking for in the next few. Well, probably till September, right? Because we've got stuff recorded to take us for a while. Scott's been busy putting together some really great leadership stuff for you. And as we switched to monthly, it's not going to necessarily slow anything down. It'll just change the cadence.
That I think is the overriding redeeming factor. Instead of it taking you six weeks to get the full story, you'll get it in one episode. But instead of getting it every two weeks, you'll get it in one monthly podcasts. So
almost like the Netflix.
The time of efficiencies should be better. And of course, again, any changes we'd certainly love to hear back if something is even possible to do that, improves it more. We, we certainly want to have our ear to the pipe on that and we will. So that is. The second thing we announced. And the first thing we talked about is the show cadence and length, and secondarily there's a rebranding effort underway as well as kind of a B part to that.
A show page that features all of FX missions, podcasts in one place. So that's something not to forget, but the leadership moment. How do you say it, Ryan? Yeah, I think somebody else actually has that MRI. Yeah,
there was another, I don't remember if it was a podcast, but there was another show that's been, I would call it dead for quite some time. But as we thought about that, you know, there's always the possibility somebody would want to pick that back up or would feel like, Hey, we're infringing on a name that they had established. And so we talked back and forth quite a bit about this actually, because.
We really liked the leadership moment, but ultimately when we thought about it, we was like, we need to make this different enough that if someone was to come to us and say, Hey, you've been using my name. We could say yes, we realized that we've found another path going forward. And we're calling ourselves the leaders moment. Yes. And I think that's a really good thing, right.
Because. There are, I would think about 27 billion leadership podcasts out there, not a true number, but something called the leaders moment. I think that's focusing more on the leader rather than the leadership, right? I think that's really kind of where Scott's heart is.
Yeah, well put, well put Brian, I think this is a podcast for leaders and it's a crowded environment. As you're saying, you know, you write a book, you have a podcast, you do some kind of content distribution. Leadership is such a crowded venue. I mean, it's packed tight and not without good reason. I think. This change we think will also match, finally match our URL because currently the website is leader's moment.work, and that's going to be easy to create continuity between the new branding.
We'll have some new logos and some other things as well. But leadership moment is becoming leaders moment and the URL will stay the same. So that should make it not unnecessarily. On the podcast platforms I would have, should've asked you this before Brian, but what types of tweaks will we see on someone's favorite podcast app?
So some of the tweaks we've already made, we've started enhancing the show notes experience so that you can get more information there. That's already happening. And then once we have the new graphics and stuff, we will change the title of the show. So that it'll show up as the leader's moment in your podcast app. Right now it says foundational missions, leadership moments. So we're just going to change that to leaders.
And beyond that in your favorite podcast app, probably nothing's going to change. And the same thing, if you go to the website, we'll have a new name for the website, but it'll be the same place. We'll have some new graphics, pretty much everything else is going to stay the same. That was our desire to create some continuity, but also continue to move things forward.
Yes. And so if somebody is currently subscribed and they're getting the download, they're getting the shows in their library of shows, at least is like it is. And mine, they may see some difference in terms of naming, but they won't have to resubscribe. Is
that right? No, no, no changes there. In fact, we've already done all of the backend. That would have gone into something like that. We did that a couple of months ago. We never even told you because it didn't require anything out of you. And once that's done, there's nothing else for you to do. All of the other stuff is really just little tweaks that we make here and there. So if you're getting this, you don't have to wonder next week. Am I going to get. Next time one's published.
Am I going to get the next one? Because it'll be right there for you unless you've hit the unsubscribe button right now,
please don't do that. We're trying not to make it too weird. And what Brian is really saying is that he and his team have done the heavy lifting to make it easy. For those of us who appreciate that and can utilize it. I'm utterly surprised as always, you guys do a great job. Really appreciate your partnership over these years. I think we talked also or mentioned briefly that there's a place where folks can get one landing page for both podcast. And that is FX missions podcast
set up now. Yeah, that's up now.
Okay. Okay. There's a couple of addresses. One of them resolves to our, what do you call that page? You have the network page, right? Yeah. If someone goes to ethics missions, podcasts.com. Then they can get to both shows and see the latest episodes of each there and have some browse ability and other stuff. And it might be an easy way for someone, if you want to refer them to our podcasts in general, it'd be a good way to get folks over there is that. Yeah,
absolutely. You can go there. You can listen, you can subscribe. You can go visit the other websites. It's just that single place where you go, Hey, I want to find out what Scott's got going on in the podcasting space. Go there. It'll have it.
Awesome. And that's a great enhancement. Was your recommendation. Brian, thank you for that. Of course, we're working hard this year to make this podcast everything it can be. And we're asking the Lord to help us in ways that only he can to make it meaningful, useful, and encouraging. If there's an umbrella over what FX missions is doing. Hopefully it says encouraging. That's our hope. That's okay. I think we've got some great content coming up on both sides for that matter.
And let us know how we're doing on that. Brian
actually kind of wanted to key in on that last little bit.
You said as far as letting us know, because one of the things that you and I Scott have been talking about is how do we start to convert this from what feels like a broadcast, a one-way conversation to more of a community building thing where we're developing relationships, because we realize that you as the listener, you've got us in your ear buds, or you're listening to us in the car, Sometimes it might feel a little bit one-sided and we really want for you to be able to reach out to Scott.
So we're also looking for some ways to build some of that community. So that there's a real connection between not only Scott and you, but also the other people that are listening so that you can develop some relationships with like-minded people. And I would encourage you if you have some thoughts around this, or maybe how about this? Just one question. If you were to connect with. Where would you want to do that? [email protected].
Send that email to him and say, if I was to connect with you around the leaders moment, this is how I would like to do that so that we can start to build something that will serve you well. And also will allow Scott to focus on the myriad of other things that he's doing. That's the other part about why we're tweaking things? So we didn't really talk about was to free up some time for you so that you could really focus on that rather than what I would call the content hamster wheel. Right.
Even if you're batching three half episodes at a time, it's still a piece of your mind. Right? And so the idea is really to free Scott up so that we can know that we're making an impact, not just putting out content
well said, Brian well said, look for us to make some announcements. Also, we're obviously seeking information about how we can best serve you and the community. That's listening to the leaders. As well as from the forefront, we're going to be putting some tools out. It would be really helpful if you don't mind, just to send a note to. At FX missions.com by email, and we'd be happy to receive that information. Incorporate your preferred method of relating.
Maybe you've got a question we're considering doing some live ish type content. That includes video still on the drawing board. Haven't finished those deliberations yet, but we want to have an environment where you can engage with us and we can engage with you. And kind of a real-time environment. Maybe you wanted to get a question answered or maybe you wanted to give some feedback or ask for more information that wasn't included.
We try to be present with all the pertinent information to contacts where you can find more, but sometimes you have a question that goes on answer. That's the kind of thing we're trying to it out. So we appreciate your, your participation and your listenership and involvement. And we're going to try to make that easier. Brian, what else are we leaving out? That I haven't mentioned?
I think we've left anything out. I think we've hit everything that I wanted to make sure we talked about. I guess maybe the one thing that I'd want to highlight is we're making these changes to serve you as the listener as best we can. And so, Like Scott said, if we changed something and you used to like the way it was, let us know.
And if we change something or if you see something that could be better, let us know because, and this is something I told every person I interviewed for my original show. When we got done, I would always say, I always want to improve, what can I do better? And if somebody had some feedback, I would take that, consider it and see what I could do to implement it.
And if they didn't, I would just ask them to think about it because I can tell you that as a podcast, If anybody ever had a good experience on my show it's because somebody before them said this could have been better. And so that we continued refining that. And that's what we're trying to do here for you.
Yes. Yes. Very well said, Brian, as always, you guys are the heavy lifting force behind the mic in the production, and I certainly appreciate you and your team and everything that you've contributed and how you've been a part as I look at this screen here, Brian, I see you there. And I'm just saying. Cohost. You've got too much to do, to be a co-host with me all the time. So thank you for jumping in here and helping me be complete and thorough in our communication about the changes.
Really, really appreciate it, man. Thank you so much.
You're welcome. Thank you for
the opportunity. Yes, sir. I am Scott McClellan and this is the leaders ship moment. Last version. Leaders mom had come in straight ahead. Thank you for being a part of this effort and do let us know how you feel about these changes. We've announced today, as well as anything else we can do to serve you better. I am Scott McClellan for FX missions podcasting. See you next time. Thanks so much for being here. Let us know if you had a light bulb moment today.
Send a message to [email protected]. Thanks again.
