Episode description

‘This is not about one person it's about a team as success always is'

This podcast comes to us from Dhaka in Bangladesh where Rob has arrived to begin work as part of a specialist team with the nation's football federation.

Rob Shares his initial thoughts on a country with warm and welcoming people and a growing passion for the game of football, listen in and share the journey with him.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • On 11 June the national team qualified for the next stage of the world cup, this has lit up the football followers in this inspiring country.
  • I'm here because I have a job to do as part of a team and at the press conference a plethora of journalists, reporters and media were keen to know how we were going to impact on the players moving forward.
  • The coaching staff have already put in place some key fundamentals for the 60 boys who range in age from 14 to 19.
  • It's refreshing to meet young people with respect, a hunger for knowledge, an obvious passion to succeed and a desire to move on I'm sure their journey is going to be a great one.
  • I had no idea I was going to end up working in Asia, but it is the culmination of many hours, late nights, doing things when others are relaxing and the support of my family.
  • It's about doing the hard yards and making sacrifices in order to keep breaking down those barriers and making those incremental steps that lead us forward.
  • What  the outcomes will be nobody knows but we are going to endeavour to make this a massive success.
  • For this opportunity, I am truly grateful, and it will get the best of me and the best of what I can give it.

BEST MOMENTS

‘Our first training session was a  demonstration of  some of the best most well executed controlled movements I've ever seen with young athletes'

‘It's about interdependence and everybody pulling together in the same direction'

‘We have started to pick up some on the language and our attempts at Bengali have made everyone laugh and this has broken down barriers ‘
