W.O.R.K. and Servant Leaders
Episode description
One of the things Rob is very passionate about is practice and how the elements of this contribute to mastery of something. Recently he heard about the concept of practice and ritual so wanted to discuss this and offer his own thoughts on the idea. As well as this he talks about the concept of work being your power and how being a servant leader can transform coaching, businesses and organisations.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- As human beings we like getting into routines. Transferring this concept to practice by creating a ritual is something that can be incredibly successful in helping you succeed longer term goals.
- If you have a set routine each day, in any area of life, it means you don't have to think about these small details as much. It opens your mind and thoughts to other tasks. You can free up your mental capacity to focus on the things you want to instead.
- However, some true masters of practice are not concerned with rituals but simply just with the concept of practice. Meaning they aren't rigid when it comes to how they get to the end goal but focus more on whatever it takes to get there. This mindset has helped many tremendously with the pandemic as individuals have not been able to carry out their usual routines. They are focused about the actual practice, not the ritual.
- No matter what happens, we can always do our ‘work'. What this means is work is your power, no matter what is happening around you and the circumstances you are in you can take control to make something better and apply yourself.
- If you are pushing past your comfort zone and pushing yourself as far as you can you will sometimes hit a plateau or hit ‘bedrock'. You may in the moment feel like the task you have come across is impossible, but it is not. You just need to find additional resources to get past this, whether they are within yourself or you need to get help from others.
- The greatest leaders are the greatest servants. Those companies and organisations that follow the concept of servant leadership are often head and shoulders above their competition.
