Aiming For The Eagle
Episode description
‘Competition attracts us, inspires us, drives us and facilitates many things - its related to being the best you can be'
Rob is exploring aspects of fundamental learning that as Leaders, Managers and Coaches help not only us but those we support to take the steps needed to move towards our goals.
It's those tiny things that can make the difference along with the understanding that the only person you can truly compare yourself to is yourself using your internal values. There is some great wisdom and learning in this episode listen in and enjoy.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Life changes and pushes us in different directions and we respond. In this preparation phase, there is an ever-growing list of things to do.
‘Aim for the eagle, bag the pheasant, don't eat crow
- Set your sights high, have an optimist approach and aim to be the very best you can
- When you reflect on events you may not have achieved exactly what you wanted to but it will be better than if you had taken no action at all.
Competition is for losers
- If we set out to compete with others to be better than others, to be a better team or individual it is easy to become frustrated.
- It is vital to be happy in the process through our internal values. It is about being the best in our field at any given time.
- The person who is the benchmark for you is yourself when you use your internal values system
- When you use this system, no one will be able to diminish your inner calm and understanding.
- It's about learning to be internally driven; you can aim to be better than you were last time
- If we are driven by internal values our results will be better.
Difficult People
- How many times do you talk or have an internal dialogue about someone who we judge as difficult?
- If we were empathetic enough to be in their shoes they would probably put us in that bracket too.
- We have a perception that there are people, who we aspire to be, who don't have the challenges that the rest of us do but the reality is this is a comparative situation, that will make you feel negative and the reality is probably not as it seems.
Leverage and force multipliers
- There are certain things in your psychological armoury that will be force multipliers, giving you more leverage
- This includes having an optimist baseline attitude because over time this will multiply your outcomes.
BEST MOMENTS
‘In the leadership of your organisation in the organisation of your family, in the relationships, you have in your work environment it's all about the moment in time and being the best, we can be'
‘Life is messy and its complex, it requires thought, patience and to be analytical'
‘We would be a lot better off keeping our noses out of others business, it will only create anxiety based on a falsehood'
