Aired again after 33 Years, “Ramayan" has set a world record by becoming the highest viewed entertainment program globally. For the record, the final episode of “Game of Thrones" had shattered single-night viewing records. With 19.3 million tuning in to watch the finale in May 2019.
The re-telecast of the Ramayan started on Doordarshan National in March soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Announced a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
Doordarshan National said on April 16, 77 million (7.7 crore) people across the globe watched the show.
