I am sixty mister Mokelly here, We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. We have more information on California what direction we're moving On tonight's show, KFI is own. Blake Trolley will join us at the bottom of the hour and he'll give us the latest on the cal State LA protests and what it's been termed as extensive vandalism of the campus. He'll be calling in, and Disneyland is cutting back on entertainment during peak summer season. Say what in Paris twenty
twenty four Olympics, they're going to debut high level break dancing. I think they missed their shot to have me in the Olympics. I still got some moves. Mark Ronner, good evening, But yes, I still have some moves. Nothing would please me more than to see this nothing. I can still do my swipes. I don't know if I can do my Thomas flair anymore. That might be asking a bit much. But there's not enough room in the studio. Maybe we can do it in the hallway. Oh yeah,
in the bullpen area would be a perfect place. And none of those words mean anything to me, just so you know, but I'm excited to see this one way or the other and as quickly as possible. I don't know if I can still. I'm pretty sure I can still do my back spin. I have to do that, probably in the kitchen, because it's I need something that can actually spin on. That's the only place where there's the linoleum here. What's the one where you spin around on your head.
That's called a headspin. Yeah, I'm gonna need to see that. No no, no, no, no, no, no nude. No no, I didn't do that when I was a kid break dancing. Why not because my mother said, don't do that because it's dangerous. No no, no, no no. Those are the compulsory moves. The Russians will mark your way down if you don't do those, well, the highest and lowest scores are thrown out, don't you know. No, no, no,
I need to see that heads, you know. But I guess I'll do some breakdancing in the kitchen, just because I need to prove to myself that I shouldn't be doing it anymore. Just go to a commercial right now so that we can go look at this. No, ten years ago, I did it in the studio as a dare from Wayne Resnick, and there's video of it floating around somewhere. So yeah, how about yeah, we got to do that. We'll do that during the break. I'll go in the
kitchen. I'll do some breakdancing moves to show you that I still don't got it. Please anymore? Please? Yes, And we'll put it on Instagram and every day we'll go live, well live, what if I get myself into And there's so much more. First, let me just say good evening to Walla. Sharp didn't have a chance to say hello to you. Did you notice was the traffic even better for you today? It was really good for me yesterday and today people are out of school. I don't know,
maybe they're just trying to avoid me. Maybe it's just my lucky day. But it was a lot easier getting here. It was easy in the morning getting here. No, there was some type of accident or something on the one eighteen connecting the Vibe to the once evident, and it was horrible getting here. Yeah. Yeah, I had to give somebody both barrels on the way in. You gave them a double finger salute both barrels that is usually
reserved for the highest epistivity. I was trying to register my disapproval of somebody driving dangerously and obnoxiously, and I don't think they got the message completely. Okay, look I used to get mad at that stuff. But Mark, you just have to let them go on ahead, because if they're driving dangerously, they're already demonstrating to you that they're not thinking clearly. They're not thinking
about anyone's safety much less yours. Let you go on by, and you want me to put the makers in Metropolol out of business while I'm at it. All I want you to do is make it here safely, Mark Ronner, Okay, I just want you to get here safely. And if you're double birding people, I mean look, oh wait, it wasn't just the double bird. It was the three D SCTV double bird in out. Yeah yeah, okay, but the problem with that is that means neither hand is on the wheel. And I want you to be safe. I was about
as safe as that. I was safer doing that than I was being cut off by this terrible human being. All right, Okay, so let's see this to this logical conclusion. If this crazy person cuts you off in this dangerous maneuver, and you double birded that person. This is not even hypothetical because that's what you did. What's the likelihood that that person's just going to keep on driving? What if they slow down? Listen. Once you stop
raging against things that are unjust, you're dead inside. I just don't want to be dead inside. I don't want you to be dead outside. That's what that guy was trying to do to me. Make me dead outside. I feel like I'm talking to one of my sons. It's just just not hearing me. My job is to make sure you get home or to work safely. That's it, Okay, Dad? Can I have my allowance now?
No, go to your damn room. Man. I need you to go and think about your life and talk about what you Look at my browser history, Dad, back to me, what does that leave us to do? Look, I just want you to be safe out there. Mark. I used to be you, okay, and I used to look for an excuse to cut someone out and dare them to pull me overs. I'm just I want more peace in my life, and part of that is making sure that the people around me are safe. I love you too, Dad,
No, you don't. But Father's Day is coming up. What do you get to get me? Not a blank thing? Can you feel the love tonight? And on the ones and two's Robin? How you doing this evening? Robin? When was the last time you did some uber driving? You have to think out loud. I think it was we Hope Pride. Actually, oh so you were working? Did you make good money because it was Pride? Yeah, I mean it was like after all Pride and everything happened,
it was just like everyone was drinking. Because did you have like crazy half clothed people who would get in your car? No? Surprisingly, No, Oh but you did expect that. Yeah, like I have, I have sea covers. Ooh what hours were you driving? Was it late at night? Yeah? It was like right after this, after the show. Oh so you were working the show and then started driving. That's a lot of work. Yep. I usually drive like five hours after working a six
hour shift, seven hour shift. Yeah. Yeah, And she insists she hasn't seen Taxi Driver. You're living it. I don't think she cares about any movie before two thousand and seven. I think this is relevant to your life. What's the oldest movie that you've seen that you loved? Robin, And I assume that you're under the age of thirty. I am. I am twenty nine. Okay, see, I'm a good judge. What's what are there any old movies quote unquote old movies that you like or love?
When was Taxi? Taxi Driver? No Taxi? That's you're talking about the TV show. Oh, oh my gosh, I thought you was something like the TV jim Oh my gosh. That I just like and I can understand that. But do you know that horrible right? That movie was horrible? I actually liked it. Oh wow, that's a lot of Queen Latina love. That's that's that's a lot of love to overlook that movie. That was back when Jimmy Fallon was a failure as an entertainer as opposed to now there
we go, Rocky horror picture show. That was way before I was born. But I love that movie. Okay, all right, you saved yourself at the end there. But that movie. Can you sing any of any of the songs other than time Warp? No? You don't want to hear me sing? No, actually we do. That's the whole point. I'm getting ready to break dance and you can't sing. I need I need to like five drinks. Okay, we didn't say you're gonna get paid for We're just gonna have to. You know, it's Later with Mo Kelly can if
I AM six forty were live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. I'm gonna go, U going to go break dance in the kitchen. You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from KFI AM six forty. Then I'm tired. You need to explain to people what they missed that. Okay, if you're just tuning in for some reason. As I was running down what we're going to discuss on the show tonight, one story is to Paris twenty twenty four Olympics. They're going to debut high level breakdancing, and I said, I
missed my shot. I should have been given the opportunity to try out. I used to break dance back in the mid nineteen eighties, which just happens to be forty years ago. Nothing has changed since then. So I said, let me go into the kitchen, move out the tables and see what I got left in the tank. Well, I'm here to tell you nothing, absolutely nothing when it comes to breakdancing. Did an Instagram live to Wallace putting it up right now. Later with mo Kelly on Instagram and at mister
mo Kelly producer Kiki. You took a video, you saw it live. I need to rest talk. I was very impressed with the breakdancing. You say that you don't have anything left and you that might, in your case, be the last little bit. Then I had left. You spent a good while afterwards just playing on the floor. But I was very impressed. I could never do anything like that. Well, you know, you should
have seen in my youth. Actually there is a picture. There might be some video flow around, but there is a picture when I was break dancing in high school as part of a school assembly at South Towrent High School. And that was nineteen eighty five. But those days are gone, nah, but that was epic. Good you. I still have skills, though, I could. I could see the formation, look your uprock into you know,
your groundwork. You had the flare action of the back spin. I could see the beginnings of it. I could see even even you how you were getting into it. I can see. I was tempted to try my egg roll. I said, no, what is that is that? Where you sit there and consume an egg roll role. It's like you're spinning around and your legs are in a V and you're moving in a circle. Up. By the way, we just passed the fortieth anniversary of the movie Beat
Street. That was June eighth, nineteen eighty four, one of the greatest movies of all time. Of all time, you're making me want to watch Breaking two Electric Boom. No no, no, watch Breaking one? Not too? Do not watch two Electric Bugaloo? No no, no, no, no, yeah, Well that only has the opposite effect. I'm sorry to tell you this. So the next time I want to act out anything on the show Rundown, just remind me about this and I will think better of it. That was so good, though, so much fun. It
was so much better in my mind. It was so much better in my mind. In my mind, it's like, how do this? How did you do that? And I said, maybe I'll do with some swipes and it didn't turn out the way. What kind of first aid facilities does the building have here? There? You know it's on the walls, that little box of band aids and and band aids and kills and cardio paddle. No no, no, no, no no, we don't have a different defibrillator.
All right. The most impressive part about that whole thing was you did it without any music to a commercial that was playing overhead in the kitchen, and all you could hear was your little sneaker squeaks. It was like a silent disco going. I can hear it in my mind. That's good. No, I was very impressed. You're laughing at me, not with me. Yeah, that was good, so much fun. And you did it. Look you talk about it, you be about it. We did both.
You might have to do a second video because I might want to improve upon that. Oh yes please. Oh so now you're gonna root me on? Yeah, yeah, don't sweat the preposition, daddy, Oh just do it. Look at the video was up? Okay, so is it at later with Mo Kelly. At mister Kelly, I'm trying to relive my youth, trying to do some of my breakdancing moves. I can't quite do my swipes anymore, and did a backspan for about a half a spin. So you can go ahead and judge me. Do your worst, like Mark Ronner,
just do your worst. No, No, I support you one hundred percent. I mean literally, I might have to wind up supporting you. All right, So that was my childhood. I used to break dance every night in my teenage years. I can't speak for Tuala. I know Mark wasn't He hasn't even eaten, so he doesn't know anything about that. I know. Yeah, we used to be out there. My crew actually had a slab of cardboard that you could fold up and we put uh linoleum tiled
pieces on it. We used to go to the Pasadena Post Office, like right there in the lobby entrance and be out there take it wherever. I was not really good. I was more uh into pop and stuff, but we like we had wait wait, wait, wait you know I pop lot too. No, yes, no, I know. Look I suck because I seek from you in the That's what we're gonna do, right, Okay. Two, when we go back at the end of this break, before we talk to Blake Trolley, I'll do some poplock and see you can see
I'm legit. You didn't know he still got skills. Every break is going to be a new dam style. You're laughing now, but see at the end of this you're gonna say, wow, he really has some skills. Yep. Yeah. So when we come back, Blake Trolley will join us. He will tell us about his day at Kelson, LA. To be serious for a moment, there was another round of demonstrations and occupying a campus
building. There was extensive vandalism. But I wanted to get someone who was there who give us a and a an on the ground look at what happened, whether any minds were changed, or whether this is going to lead to something bigger or some sort of escalation. So when we come back, we'll talk to Blake Trolley and find out what happened at cal State LA today. It's Later with mo Kelly. We'll be going Instagram live in just a second
from the kitchen once again KFIM six forty. We're live everywhere the iHeartRadio app. You're listening to Later with Moe Kelly on demand from KFI AM six forty and you know my now. Pro Palestinian protesters took over the student Services building at cal State LA today. Excuse me, starting yesterday, blocking off entrances and exits in what university officials called an unauthorized action. It has escalated from
there. There has been extend vandalism. From what has been published, camfies owned Blake Trolley has information was on the scene, Blake, how are you doing this evening? What can you tell us at this point? Well, I'm glad to know Abo that it is unauthorized to tip over golf carts on cal State LA's campus just to create a barrier while you take over a building on campus. I seen pictures of the graffiti. I've seen pictures of the
barricades, the trash, the campus furniture which is being used. But what did you see that may have not been publicized at this point. Oooh, that's a really good question. Well, we publicized this earlier today, but a lot of the material that was used to create this barrier came from all
over campus, which you probably didn't see from the photos. Actually, i'll pivot here for a second, which you probably didn't see from the photos was that those umbrellas that were tipped over, those were not just umbrellas that they used to create a barrier. What those actually were were all one solid unit. They were picnic tables that are scattered across campus, super heavy units.
By the way, those umbrellas are made of metal, So there are these metal umbrellas go that have a pole that goes down into a picnic bench that has built in seats. That's what they were tipping over when they created those. The portion of the barricade that was made with umbrellas. Otherwise, I saw some takeout, some uneaten takeout that was that the front of the barrier.
And on top of that, we did see some hard helmets and some yellow and orange vests and we presume that those came from a construction site that we were told the protesters that stolen supply wood from on campus. But yeah, what happened yesterday mo was there was there's a camp that's been on campus for about six weeks now forty days, and so far it's just been a small group of students, although it is a large camp. I did post video of this if anybody wants to look at it, it's on my Twitter
at Blake Trolley. But there's been a camp for about six weeks on this campus, and yesterday school officials say that people started joining the camp. People who were not at the camp before started heading over to the camp joining it, and at that point things really started to ramp up. These students made their way across the quad. It was about a two hundred yard walk over
to the student services building. They started developing this barricade. They then entered the first two floors of that student services building, graefeeding the windows, damaging the building. Meanwhile, fifty eight school staff and administration were inside the building and they were ordered to shelter in place. Those students enter the building about four pm. Police were able to escort most of these staff that administrators out
by six pm, but twelve did remain. And it sounds like they were trying to negotiate with these pro Palestinian protesters. We were told they were not stuck in there, they stayed on their own accord, but that they were trying to come to a peaceful resolution. I know that classes had been moved online, but I'm not sure of the campus schedule. Are we postgraduation in
these are summer classes or are we still in the main school term. Yeah, so they've had their graduation for the spring of twenty twenty four, so these are summer classes. And there were students showing up today. We actually spoke with one student and he was first and foremost. He was very confused about the whole thing. He showed up only to have a bunch of the local reporters of LA tell him that class had been moved online. He had
not gotten the memo yet. There are a few other students like that this morning on campus, and you know, he was really frustrated with the whole situation. He felt like these protesters were being selfish and you know, disrupting campus for everybody else. So he was very unhappy to say the least.
Is this a coordinated effort? What I mean by that is is we know that the demands include divestment, We know that there are are reticent to budge on those demands, But do we know if this is organized in any way or is it just going day by day just being intransigent and seeing if that's going to move the meter that makes any sense. My assessment of this whole
thing is that it is organized. If we walked back about a month, these students were speaking, or these students had some sort of meeting with campus officials, and at that point in time, campus officials had green lit the idea of becoming more transparent with how the school invested its money. That said, the school did not make any commitments to divest and it sounds like from that period from at least what the protesters are complaining about. They feel like
the school went quiet on them. Again, this is about a month ago. Then you hear those reports, and we heard this from school officials this morning that a bunch of other protesters. So this camp has existed for forty days, but a large number of protesters joined the camp yesterday and that's when they headed to the building. They chained themselves to each other and they said
that they would not budge until the school president spoke with them. And keep in mind that school president, the school's president, her name is getting away from me right now, but she was on campus. The student services building that they went into is the building she works. And we're told she was on campus and she left at about one am this morning, so she was part of that contingent of school staff that stayed on campus past one am trying
to speak with these with these protesters. President Benner and the STA jay ains EANs. Is that yes, that yeah, that was her. So she was on campus, as was the pio actually the spokesperson for the school who came out. He was actually part of the group that was there past one am. So just speaking with him this morning, it was it was he had he had a long night because he was there till I don't know,
once fifteen one thirty in the morning. It sounds like he has some sort of commute and he came back to campus this morning and he was giving a press conference at nine am. We know that the protesters are on a path of escalation. They feel it's justified, but we know that they are on a path of escalation, and we know that this university, cal State LA and other universities are treading lightly. I would say that they don't want to
have another UCLA situation. But do we know how much time before Cal State LA will resort to some sort of law enforcement solution and remove the protesters and the encampments. Well, of course that was that question was lobbed at them multiple times this morning during that press conference, but they said that they were not going to share any information on that. On that front, that said, I have to imagine that with this escalation, the school's probably going to
move pretty quickly to remove this encampment. You know, we were there this morning. I do want to point this out. We did try to speak to people that were inside that encampment when I showed up to the front of this camp. It seems like there was some sort of recruiting. There was recruiting paperwork in the beginning, and it seems like they were open to speaking with us when they didn't know I was a reporter. I'm a radio reporter,
so I don't look like a TV reporter. I showed up to the front of it, and it looked like they were open to speaking with me. Once I said I was with the media, they essentially retreated in and you know that was that they were not open to speaking with the media. I wouldn't necessarily say it was hostile, but it wasn't very friendly. And I would imagine at this point, the you know, the campus is seeing just the overall nature of the way this camp is operating, that it's so
self contained. Now you've got this escalation, I'd imagine the campus is going to move pretty quickly to eradicate this camp. Well, late TROLLI thank you so much for being there, getting eyes on the scene, and giving us a perspective that we did not already have. Blake be safe out there, and I'm quite sure we will check in with you again as this story continues to evolve. Hi. Thanks Bob, It's Later with mo Kelly. We
have a Disneyland update when we come back KFI AM six forty. We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app, and be sure to go to at Later with mo Kelly or at mister mo Kelly on Instagram and you can see me acting all sorts of unusual and trying to relive my breakdancing and pop locking past of nineteen eighty four. You're listening to Later with mo Kelly on demand from KFI AM six forty. And Disneyland is cutting back on entertainment during the peak summer
season. Say what, why would Disneyland be cutting back or even canceling shows during peak summer season. Well, that's what's happening. Disney California Adventure, Let's Start There, has canceled two shows and cutback performance on two more.
As Atmosphere entertainment continues to shrink at that theme park heading into the busy Fourth of July weekend to speak of summer, Disney California Adventure is trimming schedules in July for the Warriors of Wakanda and Avengers Campus and the citizens of Buena Vista Street along the park's main entrance Promenade. Disney California Adventure continually evaluates entertainment offerings
and makes adjustments. That's according to Disneyland officials. Both Warriors of Wakanda and Citizens of Winnivista Street performed daily in June, but they'll cut back their performances in July and going forward. I don't know why they would do that. Of course, there's a monetary component. I'm sure they are making a calculation that this saves money. But give it. How often we hear about how Disneyland has raised the price of this, the cost of that, the passes
and so forth. I didn't know that Disneyland the theme park had anything to worry about in that regard. And I know there has been this union fight as of late with these performers, and maybe they are forecasting the financial impact and so they are pulling back. I'm not saying that it's being done to penalize performers, but I think they might be making a calculation mathematically where they don't want to put out more money over the summer months than they would have
before. That's just me on the outside looking in, but someone who may have a little more perspective than me is producer Keana who worked at Digitaland for the past thirty four years. If I'm not mistaken, If I'm not mistaken, thirty four years more than I've been alive. Well, you know, he started in the womb plus ten years. But when you saw this story,
was there anything which jumped out of you? Or is this just more business as usual Disney the company just making adjustments and calculations for the summer.
It just feels like business as usual. I'm not surprised saying yeah, I'm not surprised that they're doing more cuts, like they're coming back from what pre COVID to that post COVID, like so much has changed with from the cast member's perspective of just you know, quality and everything, it felt cheaped out and I would get yeah, and so it felt like we were cheaping off the guests and the guests were noticing it. And you know, we're just doing our job. We go to work, we go home it day to
day. But you know, we're there to make magic. We want to see the guests happy. We want to show the kids that, you know, this is a magical place to have a great time. And so it's it's not surprising that they're doing this, and it's really sad that they're doing this for both the cast members and for the guests that are paying so much money to go to the parks for the summer. When you see that they are pulling back some twenty percent, does that mean that they wouldn't do a
night show or they would do fewer shows. Are the cast members when you were there, were they're being paid by the show or is it just a six hour period in which they're supposed to be working. I think, from what I can remember, and don't like super quote me on this, but from what I can remember, the character performers I think worked. They were on a contract, so it would be for whatever time that they were working. Oh okay, But let's say they're supposed to work six hours in a
given day. That could mean two or three shows, yeah, throughout the day. Okay, all right, I wanted so there has to be some sort of cost benefit to doing fewer shows. I don't know if it's a saving of resources beyond the people performing not. I was wonder if they were paid by their performance or not. Was it just an hourly rate over the period of time that they're supposed to be at the park as far as I could remember it, it's when they are performing and in their costume that they
are getting paid. Again, don't totally quote me on that. I wasn't an entertainment cast member at all. I was just one of the regular attractions, hosts, costuming and quick service. I didn't really deal with that, but from the areas that I worked and talking with other people, that's how I saw it was working. Hey, Twala, you've were at Disneyland more recently than any of us here. Was there anything that you noticed or felt
that Disneyland was pulling back on? One thing that I thought was interesting is I felt the parade overall had fewer performers. I think that the floats went by, but all the performers that we usually see in between the floats, there were fewer dancers and performers in between, and there were fewer performers on the floats, Like there was just main characters on floats, and in between that you had just a few people dancing, called people holding banners. But
it wasn't the grand spectacle that it was before. So we saw it go by, We're like, where are the rest of the is this like any parade is this like you know, just hey, we're just warm you up for the parrey later on tonight. Because it just I didn't see as many people in the parade. I wonder maybe because it was reported that we're paying more attention to it. Maybe this is something that they do most years,
and we're just more sensitive to it now. But I think people are going to be watching this, and since we're now aware of that, when we do go to the park, going to say, hey, this feels thinner, this feels like we're not getting as much for our one hundred and twenty
dollars as we normally would. And I currently have an annual pass, so I go quite a few times myself throughout the year, and me and my friend we love going during like the festival seasons with food and wine and Christmas and Halloween and everything or sorry, the holidays, the Festival of Holidays what they call it. But we've noticed just last year with the Festival of Holidays that there wasn't a lot of oomph in all of the food and the entertainment.
It just felt like and every other day at Disneyland, it didn't feel super super special like it had been the year's prior, and so I'm not going as an annual pass holder. It really feels I can see it every time I go that it feels less and less magic than Are you just getting old? As you get older, you know, it's not the same. Also, the food is so expensive, and so every time we're like, let's share some nacho. Different now because you're paying for your own food.
It's not like your mother's taking you and paying for your food. Yeah, well that's adulthood. Thanks. I still get my ten percent off the food, and it's sad because I used to get what twenty percent off the food and merge. But now that I'm no longer a caskma, are you just a peon like us? Yeah? Well, since we were talking about the fourth of July and summer season, remember do not miss Born on the fourth of July. The Broadway music of George Mkohan tap along with patriotic pride to
mister Broadways flag waving classics. I'm talking about stars and stripes forever over there, Yankee, Doodle Dandy, You're a grand old flag. And there's also a pre and post show concert and a world premiere of unperformed Cohn songs. It all happens on Sunday, June thirtieth and Lamarada Theater for the Performing Arts. But you gotta hurry up and get your tickets now. We're almost halfway
through June. Do not wait. Go to Lamarada Theater dot com. That's Lamarada Theater, t h E A t r E dot com, caf I AM six forty. We're live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. It's hard to keep tracking everything that's going on. Luckily, that little hobby of ours k f I and the k ost h D two Los Angeles, Orange County live everywhere on the Eger Radio
