This is Later with Lee Matthews The Lee Matthews Podcast more what You Hear weekday afternoons on the Drive. Earlier in the week, I got a call from Margie. Margie said she lives in Tulsa. Okay, well, you know, when my kids were growing up, I wasn't a Christian, and so I thought it was okay to lie to them about Santa. And so that's a long lasting lie. I would have just punched anybody in the nose who would have told them the truth. And I know a lot of parents feel
like that because it's kind of a fun thing. But after all, this is setting a precedent to tell your child to lie. It's okay to lie in certain occasions. So the song here Comes Santa Claus. I decided that I'm wrapping up my evangelism since our world is in such terrible shape, and so I rewrote the lyrics. So if you don't mind, I'd like to sing them to you. Okay, don't wear me out, though, go
ahead, Okay, here come Santa Claus. Here comes Santa Claus. Right down Santa Claus Lane, taking attention away from Jesus, just like he never came. They'll sair ringing children singing darkness that they call light. They don't care if Jesus comes, because Santa Claus is coming to you tonight. Here comes Santa Claus. Here comes Santa Claus. Rite down, Santa Claus lane. If you change two letters in Santa, it's bells sat An. Let's all speak up. It's not funny and it's certainly not cute. No moral
lies and compromise. Let's give all sanative boot well. I applaud your ability to write a parody song, Margie, and thanks for calling in. But unfortunately I respectfully disagree because I think that you should include Santa Claus in your Christmas celebration. I think you should include Santa Claus when you are talking to your children. So let me give you my take on this whole thing.
See, more than just a man was born in that stable that we remember two thousand years ago this month, something that profoundly changed not just the world and not just religion, but the entire psychology of the human race. Until Jesus Christ was born, religions were oppressive. You had to serve, you had to sacrifice, you had to bend and bow to the will of whatever
God you were bowing for. And if that God required of you to sacrifice your own children on its altar, you did and hoped, hoped that you'd have a good crop that year, or something good would happen to you. Oh and if you made that God angry, if you sinned against that God too late, no hope. But you see, when Jesus Christ came along, all that changed. All of the sudden, something new came into the world, something that comes to us through love for the first time in the
history of the human race. Redemption was also blonde, because even if you were a monotheistic a member of a monootheistic faith at that time Judaism, there wasn't a lot of redemption. But Jesus Christ said, all you have to do is ask for it. No matter who you are, no matter what you've done, no matter what color your skin, no matter what your parents are or what they did, no matter where your station in life is, no matter how much money you make, no matter how poor you are,
Redemption is at hand. Just for saying I've done wrong, Please redeem me, make me a better person. I don't want to live this way anymore. And sure, sometimes the redemption may be unpleasant. It may mean having to do something you don't want to do. I don't know how many times I've said to the Lord God, please don't make me do this. It might mean a prison sentence, it might mean paying back in debts. But
redemption is at hand and it comes to us through love. I could go into all the different types of love, agape, love of God, arrows, the love of the opposite sex, felos, brotherly love. But do you know when you bring all those together in a relationship with Christ and God, they are one. That was the gift the magi brought to Jesus Christ
that night, and that's the gift that he continues to give us. So what if you were to draw a picture of that love and that redemption and that gift that came into our world two thousand years ago or so this month, what do you think it would look like. I think it would look like a happy, jolly old man who goes around the world giving out that gift. I think that love that comes through Christ on Christmas Eve is Santa
Claus. And that's why you should continue to include Santa Claus and your Christmas celebration. And I hope you have Merry Christmas from our family to yours.
